Settings for CD Drive

I have an Imac desktop (intel) and a macbook. When I loaded a program CD into the macbook it showed up on Drive D and installed without issue. Same CD in the desktop opens as a network drive and will not install. I am running Parallels on both macs with Windows XP. The program being entered is a windows program. I am thinking the problem is with a setting on how my desktop treats CD's but have no idea what that setting is. Help Please! PS other CD's such as my Snow Leopard CD also open as network drive but runs fine on the mac.

Ok everyone, I did a little digging on a second Vista machine and got both the media drive, and iTunes working together, without the registry pop up. Do the Microsoft fix so that your computer can see your burner, but iTunes gives the registry error when you start it. Make sure you have downloaded and installed the Gears Drivers before starting this. Here is the link to the Gears Drivers.

Go to Regedit, control, class, 4D36E965-E325 and click on it. The other side of the Editor is missing UpperFilters, right? Do the following:
Right click on the blank space on the right side of the editor (thebox with Name, Type, Data on the top).
Click New, then Multi-String Value.
You will see New Value at the bottom of the list. Right click New Value and hit Modify.
For Value Name enter: UpperFilters
For Value Data enter: GEARAspiWDM
You should be done now. I am no expert at registry edits, but it worked for me. I didn't need to add an Upper Filter, so I didn't. Hopefully this will help.

Time Machine settings for multiple drives?

I have two hard drives installed in my mac, one is for system related stuff and one is a working drive for FCPX. Is there a way to set my time capsule to create a backup of my boot drive and an external drive to use time machine to back up the 2nd internal drive? Thanks!

Won't that change the preferences for both drives? I want the system drive to back up wirelessly to the time capsule, and then the 2nd drive to back up through Time Machine to a FW800 external drive... but only copy the 2nd drive, not the everything else that is backing up wirelessly.

Error just uninstalled iTunes from PC and reinstalled error message saying registry settings for itunes driver for importing and burning CD's are missing. May be caused by dowloading other CD burning software. Solution?

Was having trouble burning CD. Uninstalled iTunes from PC the reinstalled iTunes. The first installation I got a messaghe saying that download was interrupted. I restarted te download and completed it. Then got another error message that a registry file was missing that is used in downloading and burning CD-s. I figured with a fresh download, it should have been fixed???? Solution anyone and thanks?

I'd start with the following document, with one modification. At step 12 after typing GEARAspiWDM press the Enter/Return key once prior to clicking OK. (Pressing Return adds a carriage return in the field and is important.)

hello....i have a windows partition on my macbook air.
i have downloaded all the necessary drivers needed for the bootcamp.
howsoever need assistance to make required changes in the settings of the tracpad as the right click option is not working as of now.
could anyone please assist what is to be done?

To use the right click option you set a particular corner to be the right click, or two finger click.
Boot Camp: Right-click with a mouse or trackpad
Using a trackpad: There are two ways you can right-click; you can choose which ones are available in the Trackpad pane of the Boot Camp control panel.
If Secondary Click is selected in the One Finger section, click the selected corner of the trackpad.
If Secondary Click is selected in the Two Finger section, place two fingers on the trackpad, then click.

And I take it by saying you downloaded all the necessary drivers, that means you downloaded and installed them.

Modify Ethernet driver settings for a local zone of exclusive ip-type

Hi there
A quick one. Have configured a local zone with ip-type set to exclusive for a physical interface fjgi1. How can I modify the fjgi driver settings for this local zone?
Should I edit /platform/SUNW,SPARC-Enterprise/kernel/drv/fjgi.conf under the global zone and reboot the global zone, or create and edit a new config file in the local zone and reboot it?

Driver settings like this are shared by all zones. So you'd need to make the change in the global zone.

Jumper Settings for Second SATA-II drive Installed Into Dual 2.0Ghz G5

I have installed a second SATA-II 500GB Maxtor drive into a brand new (purchased as re-furbished computer from Apple) dual 2.0Ghz PowerMac G5. The drive has four connector pins with a jumper slide over the last pin on the right. Before I power up the computer I want to verify the correct jumper settings. According to the Maxtor website, no jumpers are required since the "serial ATA host automatically determines the master and slave hard drive." And according to a MacSales tech (this is the vendor where I purchased the Maxtor drive) I should pull off the existing jumper. Can anyone verify if this is, in fact, the correct jumper setting (no jumpers on the connector pins) for this drive on this system?

"PLEASE NOTE: Unlike standard ATA drives, Serial ATA drives DO NOT require the use of jumpers to configure the drive. Please disregard any references to jumper settings and Master, Slave and Cable Select configurations in the Maxtor Installation Guide."
I'd leave the jumper as is came when you got it. tom

The quality of photo images (mostly JPG files) in printouts is awful even though the files display beautifully on the PC screen. I am using
IrfanView software for displaying/printing. As far as I can tell, IrfanView is not the problem.
When I print the same images on a Deskjet 5150 attached to a different PC also running XP Pro and IrfanView, the quality of the printouts is at
least acceptable, Some would probably say good or very good.
It's dificult to explain in words the problem with the printouts. A picture of really pretty vegetables (squashes, tomatoes, watermelon, etc) comes
out much too red. Moreover, the red, which appears shaded on the screen, seems to be all one shade in the D110a printouts.
Something similar happens to a view of a huge tree in full leaf. On screen, there are subtle variations in the "greenness" of the leaves. In the
printout, all green is the same shade. In the same printout, the trunk of the tree is all a single shade of grey. It isn;t even obvious that the
trunk is a round, solid object.
I liken the effect to audio that disappears entirely when you lower the volume and gets clipped into square waves in even moderately loud passages.
I don't know whether the D110a driver software permits adjusting the parameters that appear to be set incorrectly, and if adjustments are possible,
how I would identify which parameters to adjust, how I would access them, or how I would adjust them. I'm hoping that someone can help. Thanks.

you can't define 2 interfaces the old way (even though I saw some tricky workaround somewhere in the forums).
Use, f.e., netcfg:
Comment your old lines.
In /etc/rc.conf insert:
NETWORKS=(Eth0-dhcp Eth1-static)
DAEMONS=(..... !network @net-profiles ....)
In /etc/network.d create 2 files:
First one is named Eth0-dhcp.
Contents:
CONNECTION="ethernet"
DESCRIPTION="Whatever text"
INTERFACE=eth0
HOSTNAME="your hostname"
IP="dhcp"
DHCP_TIMEOUT=15
Second one is named Eth1-static.
Contents:
CONNECTION='ethernet'
DESCRIPTION='whatver'
INTERFACE='eth1'
HOSTNAME='hname'
IP='static'
ADDR='192.168.0.10'
GATEWAY='192.168.0.1' # your gateway IP
DNS=('192.168.0.1') # your DNS server
The names Eth0-dhcp and Eth1-static are not magic. They just must be the same in rc.conf and in /etc/network.d.

ITunes Settings for Media on External Drive via Airport Extreme...

iTunes Settings for Media on External Drive via Airport Extreme base station versus plugging directly into laptop.
My current configuration is that my iTunes Media (700gb) are all stored in an External Drive that's plugged into my Airport Extreme Base Station. This works great for me having wireless access to my iTunes external drive.
Whenever I need to back up that hard drive with Time Machine, I just plug it directly to my laptop...
But how do I let iTunes (or iTunes library) know that this is the same hard drive where all my media is stored when it's plugged directly into the laptop as opposed to trying to access it from my Airport Extreme network?

No there isnt any files call library in the folder i created I am now in the process of copying them back but I guess I will loose all my playlists and playcounts. I do have a Copy of my drive that i made with carbon copy cloner. So maybe it will be best to boot from there, restore and start again.
Chris it was just the media folder. I was following the instructions on the apple support page. Got to point 14 didn't get the warning but did seen to have a brand new itunes, so emptied the trash as they said expecting everything to be fine but it wasnt.

How do I restore the settings for apps using Time Machine?

I believe there are problems with items within the Library Folder inside the System Folder. For example, there are two "Frameworks" Folders, but one has "(from old Mac)" after its name. I dare not try to remove or even move either.
Back in the day of OS 9, you could modify something, then search for it by "Last Modified" Date, and find where Apple has hidden itscontents. It's not so easy in OS X. I've had some success using Pondini's Time Machine FAQ's, though. Here is how I got to this problem:
Our family MacBook died. After getting a repair estimate of $500 to $700 "if it's the Logic Board," we decided to replace it. We purchased a MacBook Pro running Lion. (Later, we brought it to an Apple Store and were quoted $435 in house or $280, but they would have to send it out. Incredible repair: Logic Board, Top & Bottom Case, Super Drive, Battery, all for $280. No wonder they're #1). I pulled the Hard Dive out, erased it, and installed an older operating system, but during the repair they installed 10.6.
Restored the MBP from the TM backup of the MacBook. OK
The Macbook is repaired and the store showed me how to restore the data from the TM backup.
Restart and the passwords do not work due to restoring a 10.6 machine from a 10.7 backup.
Tech support guides me through resetting an admin password using the password utility on the install DVD.
changed the other passwords inside of Accounts in System Preferences. Then changed the password or the other Admin.
Restart, get a circle with a line through it.

Restart, half my Apps do not work.
Tech support says to re-install 10.6.
I did but I thought it would erase and install but it just re-installed 10.6.
Most Apps work, except iPhoto. Mail is OK sending but only receives on one of 3 accounts.
Is there a fix for iPhoto & Mail? If not, I would plan to erase and use the finder to drag the user folders from TM to the MacBook. Can I just drag the Apps too? How about all of the settings for those Apps?

If you don't keep a backup, you can't restore your machine to any state except the state in which you received it, brand new, with none of your own stuff on it. That makes a pretty convincing argument for backing up, doesn't it?

Have tried everything including something called GEAR driver installer which was suggested on several technical sites. Everything was working fine in iTunes until I updated it.. It's strange I can still import music but not burn?? Friend s have told me they have ha dthe same problem when updating iTunes but resolved the problem by uninstalling/reinstalling or altering registry keys.
Today I went to use my Epson Printer and now have problems with it not working. I decided to uninstall/ install printer software and still can't get it to work either. I may be wrong but his all seems connected to me?
I have been trying for days to get telephone support and been told today you have to pay

This is a copy of ONEof the keys in the registry I changed as told by Apple support today. I also have changed others as instructed by GEAR software support to manually delete GEAR drivers (that I had installed but couldn't delete some of the others they mentioned from Windows system 32. Then some bright spark at work told me I need the Gear drivers so I downloaded the software and installed again.
Sorry, just this minute went to insert image and it is giving me a message saying this sort of content is not allowed?.

What are the best optimization settings for Logic 9....

I am running Logic 9 on a Macbook Pro 2.53GHz, Intel Core 2 Duo, 4GB RAM, OSX 10.6.4, with a AK1 soundcard. And I was wondering what the best optimization settings for this setup are?
I have been having a few issues with drop outs in sound during playback, which is also carried over when i bounce the audio. I did some research and found my latency settings needed to be higher, so I set the I/O buffer size to 512. I am also running all samples from the local hdd, I was thinking maybe put the samples on an external drive. I also changed Logic 9 to 64bit mode.
Does anyone know if this is right and anything else I need to do with Logic and/or the AK1??

First, return to 32-bit mode. 64 bit still has some ß-issues and some features that are not working/disabled, and the only perk of 64-bit is that Logic can adress more than 4 GB RAM, which you don't have anyway.
Samples on the startup drive is not a problem, unless you start using really big third party sample libraries, or zillions of EXS instruments. Some of the Logic content insists on residing on the startup disk anyway, better leave that where it is.
If you have an external, use that to store your Logic projects, or, in other words, make it your recording disk (as recordings are stored in the project folder). You do record audio too, I assume? Anyway, if you get an external, make it a FireWire one, not USB. FireWire is much easier on the CPU, and +for audio (and sample-) streaming+ more reliable and faster than USB.
If dropouts you hear during playback also show up in the (offline?) bounce, it is probably not a buffer issue, as the buffer is irrelevant for bouncing offline.

Windows 8.1 forgets dpi / display size settings for one monitor on almost every reboot

I use TV 32" with 1920x1080 and cintiq 13" with 1920x1080
when I boot my PC the resolution is fine but DPI is wrong.
In smaller monitor It's look like DPI is higher than the bigger one.
I already set dpi to be the same (smallest 100%) but it's not work until I do something to change display setting.
It's really annoy me. This problem is not happen when I use windows 8
Only solution I found is turn off
"Turn on fast start-up".
When I do that It's boot like what I want. every monitor is the same DPI.
But it'll make my boot time longer.
It should be just start up windows and use the same dpi from the start.
So I think this problem is a bug in windows 8.1

I've already used the latest graphic card driver. But It's won't help this issue.
In registry editor. I check those variables then value of them is already set like that blog suggest.
So , it look like when windows start-up(with fast start-up) It use something like
suggest value for different monitor size instead of what I set in control panel. But when I turn off fast start-up windows use my setting value.
And I think there are a lot of people who got the same problem as me.

Sorry for the delay in response. It sounds like you have somehow deleted your quicktime ProKit with the codecs by what ever process you were trying to restore you trashed files.
Go to the Apple Menu > System Updates and see if the updater sees a need to install them.
If this doesn't work - it might be
the best thing to do would be to get FCS Remover from Digital Rebellion (free)

and try to remove all traces of your corrupt installation and then do a clean install from your original disks, followed by updates to restore the new ProKit codecs.
If your system has been corrupted by whatever you did, it might be best to wipe the drive and start from scratch - but understood this is not a pleasant choice.
Other posters may have different or better suggestions. The FCS Pro Apps require a lot of files and file structure that may or may not be apparent, and were never drag and drop installable. They always needed to be installed with the proper installer.

Best codecs/settings for CD ROM?

i'm creating a CD ROM-type presentation via shockwave director that has a slew of embedded quicktime videos in it (generally playing at 720x400). right now the videos are rather large and bulky and i'd like to compress them so they play better (don't tax the processors) and don't take up too much hard drive space (the presentation will be loaded onto 7 different laptops - 6 PCs one MAC).
what's the best video codec and settings for computer-based embedded quicktime files? i'm using FCP5 and have compressor 2.0.1
any suggestions?

Why not start with one of CD compressor formats, and see if it works?
Compression is a compromise between size and quality.
What is best depends on what is important to you.
