Settings for process color on newsprint

I have prepared an ad which will be printed in a the yellow pages of a telephone directory. Web press on uncoated stock, just a bit better than newsprint. The printer will print the pages 8 up so any color adjustments will be universal on the page. However, I figured if I start right, I might have a better chance of decent reproduction. The image is color and I presume will need 30% dot gain for that grade of paper. I need some guidance as to how to do that and what ppi I should go for. I have muddled around in the past and gotten satisfacory results, but would like to hit this one closer,
Any help is welcome.
TIA,
Joe

To get the footage into FCP I used the XDCam Log and Transfer plugin. The format for the footage is Apple XDCAM EX 1080i60 (35 Mb/s VBR), 1920 x 1080 (1888 x 1062).
The sequence settings are the following:
1920x1080 HDTV 1080i (16:9)
Pixel Aspect Ratio: Square
Field Dominance: Upper (Odd)
Editing Timebase: 29.97
Compressor: XDCam EX 1080i60 (35Mb/s VBR)
The syncing problem happened when I just did the standard Export -> Quicktime Movie using current settings.

  • Color Settings for neon colors?

I'm trying to make a document, used to print on a t shirt, and i need neon colors. For some reason everytime i pick a neon color, the color that actually shows up on the document is more of a pastel color. I tried changing some of the color settings profiles but nothing would work. Could someone explain how I could get neon colors?

As the others said, there is no way to preview this on a monitor. Just define the spot colors properly in the document and hand it over to the textile printer. If he knows what a Pantone swatch is, he will pick the right colors. If he uses some other concoctions based on a textile specific color system, he will call you up, anyway, and you will have to sort this out on the location. Also make sure you get things right with any additional layers of white underprint or special additional reflective pigment., depending on how brigh tyou want your dayglo orange or whatever...

I am trying to match a particular color of blue in Word.
I set the CYMK percentages using the either the sliders or %age boxes in Word, hit OK and then when I open the color setting box, the numbers have changed.
    Anyone got an idea of what I'm doing that could be wrong - am using PMS CYMK numbers - C 100 - Y 75 - M 0 - K 0 - in theory it should work but it's not.

The only thing I think is wrong is Word.

  • Color management settings for the best print output

Color Management while Printing has been one of the challenging areas which has been discussed a lot over user forums and has been a painful area in terms of clear understanding while taking print outputs.
Here is an easy-to-understand KB (Knowledge Base) article ‘Color management settings for the best print output’ to help you get the best from your printers using PSE and bridge that knowledge gap.
This article explains color management in Photoshop Elements, how to get better prints, and addresses some of the following issues like horizontal/vertical streaks in print output, too dark or too light print output, ICC profile problems and Color differences between prints from PSE and other applications.
    Thanks,
    Garry

    Thanks Noel.
Yes have shared in PSE forum as well. But I usually drop such posts on PS General forum so community moderators as well as our power users who mostly use both PS or PSE or are aware about can communicate to their students, audiences etc.
The idea is to reach out the message to as many as folks via relevant forums. Most of my otehr posts have found mentioned only on PSE forum.
Thanks for the feedback Nice to hear such a great feedback within 5 mts of publishing

  • Error : Pre Settings for IDoc inbound processing are missing error

    Hi Experts,
There is a CRM job which executes LSMW and I am facing a strange problem during the IDOC posting the error "Pre Settings for IDoc inbound processing are missing error". Can anyone please tell me how to correct this error?
    Thanks in advance.
    Madhurima.

I'd start with the following document, with one modification. At step 12 after typing GEARAspiWDM press the Enter/Return key once prior to clicking OK. (Pressing Return adds a carriage return in the field and is important.)

  • Need color management settings for photoshop version 8.0

I need to reset the color management settings for photoshop 8.0. Can someone let me know what are the correct defaults?

Probably the most commonly used is "North American Prepress 2" but which you choose depends entirely on the kind of work you are currently doing.

  • Best color settings for document view?

Which is best color settings for different document formats with the same color profile?
There are Tiff and Pdf documents with same color profile but look different.
    Thanks!

Bridge is file browser with custom preview options, but it's not a pre-press examination application. Just don't use it for that purpose.
P.S. First one is the best as far as I see. I don't like ruined «A» in second example. If you want to get more ballance, you can shift the left side also a bit.

  • What are the best Color "Display Settings" for both my Macbook Pro Retina and Thunderbolt Display??

I have recently purchased a Thunderbolt Display for my MBPr (early 2013) and was wondering what were the best settings for both to obtain an equal color and graphic appearance. I want to have them identical for working on graphics and illustrations.
    Thanks

I have the same laptop. There's nothing you really need to do to optimise the system. Perhaps just install the cuda drivers.
It runs premiere like a dream.

  • Best color matching settings for canon pro9500

I tried different settings for printing 13x19 photos. Printer color management, photoshop color management with different color options. Always a difference with preview... Help please. I have no problem when printing with my old ip6700d!

    1. Calibrate (I use ColorVision's Spyder http://aps8.com/spyder.html , but any hardware calibration device will be better than calibration by eye).
    2. Set the Working Space to sRGB.
    3. Set the Color Management Policy for RGB to Convert to Working to be sure you are converting content to sRGB. (2 & 3 addressses pfigen's concern about making sure all images are sRGB.)
    4. Make sure your monitor is set to use the ICC profile generated by the calibration device.
    5. Turn off Proof Colors.
    6. Embed profiles or not, but if you do use the sRGB profile. Whether it gets used or not is another story.
As far as B&W, pfigen suggests Gamma 2.2, which would seem to be right for PC. Mac users might consider Gamma 1.8.
This should work well for most situations, but guaranteed consistency is an impossible task at this point.

  • ISE default settings for "ISE - Process Status"

Please put default settings for alerts "ISE - Process Status" for CiscoISE (PAN / Operations / Alarms / Rules / Criteria / Monitor Processes).
For example, for version 1.1.4.218 for virtual machines.
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi
You can view process status for the network from the Cisco ISE dashboard using the System Summary dashlet. For example, when processes like the application server or database fail, an alarm is generated and you can view the results using the System Summary dashlet.
One of the requirements for creating an alarm rule is that you assign it to a schedule. The following task shows you how to create an alarm rule, and then assign it to a schedule.
The following default alarm rules are shown in the user interface:
    • ISE - AAA Health
    • ISE - Process Status
    • ISE - System Errors
    • ISE - System Health
You can create these alarm rules using the following procedure:
    • Passed Authentication
    • Failed Authentication
    • Authentication Inactivity
    • Authenticated But No Accounting Start
    • Unknown NAD
    • External DB Unavailable
    • RBACL Drops

  • How to set tagged pdf settings for batch process

Framemaker doesn't allow me to set tagged pdf settings without opening a file (i.e. *.mif/*.fm/*.book).We are using .MIF files to generate PDF in an automated process.( .MIF files will be sent to FrameMaker as a batch file using DZBATCHER then it it uses distiller to produce the PDF).
How can I set tagged PDF settings for this kind of operation?

Tagged PDF info is a document level property, i.e. you need to define it in the MIF. Check your MIF manual for: <DPDFStructure and <DPDFStructureDefined statements.
Note: If you're using any FM version earlier that FM9 and not the FrameServer version, please read your EULA very carefully (Section 2.2 - 2.4) concerning automated creation of PDF files. With FM9, the restriction apparently has been loosened to only how the process is intiated (Section 2.3).
Copies of the EULAs can be seen here: http://www.adobe.com/products/eulas/

  • Help with computer setup and PP settings for faster/better previews

I have been using Cyberlink PowerDirector software for video editing.  It is very easy to use and can do quite a bit.  It was also accelerated by Intel HD graphics built into my system, so I could see a lot of my work at a pretty high resolution in real time.
However, I wanted to see what PP was capable of, specifically the Warp Stabilizer.
So I downloaded PP and have been trying to use it, but it was just slow as heck to preview anything (chop stop chop stop...), with render times being insanely long (12 hours for five minutes of footage vs. about 30 minutes with PowerDirector).
Thinking it was a problem with my system and I needed to get a real graphics card, I got an EVGA GTX 670 (FTW) for $400, and popped it in.  I modified the text file so PP would see it as a compatible card, opened up PP and changed the engine to the new card.
Things are faster, but I was expecting a lot more.  Here's what I'm doing:
    1. Shooting Canon 5D mark II (now III) clips 20-60 seconds long, 1080p.
    2. Import to PP and sequence them.
    3. Adding effects:
         A. Top adjustment layer for fast color correction (white balance)
         B. Next adjustment layer: 3-way color, shadow/highlight, unsharp mask, fast blur
         C. Video 1 layer has the clips with warp stabilizer applied to each, and dissolves.
My final output will be 720p.  ( I shoot 1080p so the Warp Stabilizer will have more to work with, and I can crop without feeling like I'm degrading quality).
    My system: i7 2600k, 16GB RAM, GTX 670 graphics, 120GB SSD "Max IOPS", 2TB 7200rpm internal, 2TB 7200rpm external (USB 2.0, backup drive).
I can currently preview at 1/4 res in realtime.  I would really like to be able to get to 1/2 res (of course full would be great).  One thing that worries me is that GPU-Z indicates that my GPU is only running at about 2% while previewing, while CPU usage is at around 50%.  I was under the impression that the Mercury thing would use GPU/CUDA to process previews and effects that are supported (that includes Warp Stabilizer).
I've looked at Sequence Settings and fiddled with Preview File Format and size, but that doesn't seem to do anything.  I'm currently looking around at codecs (Cineform, DNxHD), but don't know if those can help.
What settings should I alter to get better previews?

Well I'm still pretty clueless about this, but for anyone who is looking at this and wondering, here's what I've gleaned:
    1.  After Effects, especially CS6, makes much more and better use of graphics cards than does Premiere Pro.  I'm guessing that PP will, in future versions, make better use of them.  For now, no need to spend more than a couple hundred bucks on one.
    2.  Update the software.  PP and AE both performed substantially better after installing the .01 update from adobe.  After you install the update, be sure to re-do the CUDA hack, if necessary.
    3.  As it stands, money for a PP system is best spent on a processor, as in the newest Intel (currently Ivy Bridge), and overclocked.  This is where performance happens.  I'd say on a 2012 system, 16 GB RAM should be considered a minimum for video editing, and 24 or 32 if you can afford it.  More than that probably won't be utilized.  Hard disks can affect performance, but I don't think it's a bottleneck unless you're doing something that requires VERY fast/large reads and writes (4k source?).  Most people who have high-end editing stations also have a bunch of drives in RAID, but if you look at the performance chart, the SECOND highest scoring tester did not use RAID (though did use a presumably fast and large SSD).
Keep in mind that all of this has to do with RENDER speeds.  I still don't know what the bottleneck is for PREVIEWS, but I'm just going to assume it's the same.
