"settings" icon gone :(

Hi there
I updated my iPhone 3GS with IOS4 a couple of days ago and yesteday I noticed that my "settings" icon was gone. Completely disappeared.
I think it was something about the folders...
Please help me, it's annoying to go to the spotlight and then type "settings"
Thanks

Welcome to the discussions,
if you can find it using spotlight, it must be on your device somewhere, check all the pages and if you're using iOS4, look inside the folders as well. If all of your pages are used, try to delete a few apps to make the settings app visible again.

  • System settings icon gone

My system settings icon is gone from my first home page.  Any way to get it back without doing a system restore?  Thanks.

    - Try a reset, nothing will be lost.
Reset iPod touch:  Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Have you tried using the Spotlight search feature to try tofind it.  It is likely somewhere andyy just can't find it since theSynstem app can't be deleted or hidden.
    - Reset the screen layout: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Screen Layout.

  • Macbook date & time settings icon gone

I have a ~4 year old Macbook, 2.2 Intel Core 2 running OS/X 10.5.8. Several months ago, I went to "Open Date & Time..." by clicking on my clock. I click on it and nothing occurs. I went to my System Preferences to access via the "Date & Time" icon. The icon is gone.
I have been unable to find an analogous sitiation on the internet, in speaking with Mac representatives, or from my university's tech support department. Has anyone experienced this issue? What of the disappearing icon (I have never seen a system preference/control panel icon simply disappear...)? Any ideas?

Open System Preferences, click on the 'View' menu and select 'Customize'.  You will see all the icons available within System Preferences but with checkmarks next to them.  If Date & Time is there then it will not have the checkmark.  Check it, then click on the 'Done' button at the top.

  • HT201401 settings icon gone

Icon for Settings disappeared on Iphone4s.  I can access 'settings' other ways, but no icon.

It's in there somewhere, it is impossible to delete. Access it with Spotlight seqarch, or reset your homescreens in Settings if you can't find it yourself.

    Make that four.
If you have any commercially advertised/available antivirus software installed on your Mac, completely uninstall this per the instructions on the AV developer's website.
Antivirus software can slow down the normal operation of OS X and can negatively affect OS X performance and operation.
Do you have apps like MacKeeper or any other maintenance apps like CleanMyMac 1 or 2, TuneUpMyMac or anything like these apps, installed on your Mac? These types of apps, while they appear to be helpful, can do too good a job of data "cleanup" causing the potential to do serious data corruption or data deletion and render a perfectly running OS completely dead and useless leaving you with a frozen, non-functional Mac.
Plus, these type of apps aren't really necessary. They really aren't.
There are manual methods to clear off unnecessary data off of your Mac that are safer and you have complete control over your Mac and not just leave a piece of auto cleaning software in charge of clearing off data off of your Mac.
Their potential of causing OS X issues outweighs the implied good and benefits these types of hard drive or memory "cleaning" apps are written to do.
Plus, the software companies that write these apps make it hard to easily uninstall these apps if something DOES go wrong and these apps work in a way where you have no recovery or revert function to return your Mac back to its former, working state in the event something does go wrong.
It is best to never, EVER download and install these types of apps.
The risk to your system and data is too great a risk!
Search the web to learn how to correctly and properly uninstall these kinds of apps.
    They all uninstall differently.

  • 3G to 3GS transfer oddity  settings icon is gone

It went smoothly BUT now my "settings" icon has disappeared. Spotlight can find it and open it but spotlight doesn't show WHERE it actually is. Does anyone know where it went??

Got my 3GS this morning. Took my laptop to the store with me. I asked the 'Genius' if I could restore settings from a backup. He said, "I think so." With fresh phone I had all icons (it was my settings icon that disappeared, twice). I plugged into iTunes and started my restore from backup. Upon completion I had no music or apps installed on the phone. It created two additional pages and bumped a couple factory apps to them but the settings icon was completly gone. I did a factory restore and it erased all my contact info like it should have and all the icons were returned. Again I did a restore from backup. Again the settings icon disappeared. Just for the **** of it I synced all my apps and music. After the sync the settings icon was there. Magic.

  • Settings icon has permanent (1) badge after iOS7 Update

So I updated my new Retina iPad to iOS7 and now I have a (1) in the upper right hand corner of the Settings icon that will not go away. I've gone through every section of settings, performed a hard reset, checked for additional updates (checked app updates as well) and the thing will not go away. Suggestions?

You can't turn off the notification badge for settings, and the reset settings did not work, it is still there.

  • Settings icon disappeared?

Hey i just got the new update and got the new apps and everything was working perfectly at first. after i was done testing everything out i turned my ipod off and put it away. an hour or so later i take it back out and the settings icon is gone! i especially need it because i had my screen lock temporarily set to never and was gunna change it back but forgot and also i have 2 wifis in my house, so whenever i switch between them i have to turn wifi on and off... which i can't now. could someone explain to me how to get it back? and yes i checked to make sure i didnt move it to the next page

ok that was not the best way to go... for many reasons... i didnt know that ipod touch didnt have disk mode so i dont have any songs on my computer.... and now i have to erase all songs, videos, and everything. plus then i have to redownload the apps for another $20 because my "factory settings" don't come with the new apps... any way to not lose stuff? i cant do anything on ipod because it just shows the plug into itunes screen...

  • Settings icon vanished

3GS iPhone, put it in my pocket. When I next pulled it out, the "Settings" icon is gone. Plugged into computer, saw 3.1.3 update available and installed, thinking during the upgrade, the Settings icon would have to be re-whatever so it would be visible. But no. So I restored the software and went through the whole re-sync thing. Still no settings icon. *&^%$ Tried to do the reset (hold Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time) and all it will do is ask if I really want to turn it off. This used to work.
How can it not restore the Settings icon? How is not have a Settings icon even an option? Why can't I reset?

There is no option for deleting the settings icon.
Have you moved it to another home page?

How do I get it back?
In Oracle SQL Developer 3.0 I clicked
    Help->Table of Contents
to bring ut the Help Center window.
It the Help Center window I used to have a Favorites tab next
to the Contents TAB on the left side of the window.
I did an unpin some how and now I can't get the Favorites
    TAB back.
On the right side there is a Star + icon that does
    Add to Favorites.
I can add links to favorites but I have no way to go to these
    saved favorites anymore.
How do I get the Favorites TAB/Icon back?
    Thanks

    Hi John,
SQL Developer depends on JDeveloper code for the Help. After closing the Favorites tab I see no way to re-open it in the UI, so I imagine there may be a bug on the JDev side. Fortunately, there is a manual fix:
    In file product-preferences.xml
    In directory C:\Documents and Settings\<userid>\Application Data\SQL Developer\system3.0.04.34\o.sqldeveloper.11.1.2.4.34
use Notepad to look for the lines like:
          <value n="helpDynamicLinksNavigatorLocation" v="3"/>
          <value n="helpFavoritesNavigatorLocation" v="0"/>
Just change the value "0" to "2"Regards,
    Gary

  • Lost and then found the Settings icon on iPad 2.  Can I prevent this?

I just got an iPad2 several weeks ago and love it.  Today I discovered that the settings icon was gone from the Home Page.  Not on the second page either.
I found some suggestions on this forum (by searching "google" which is much easier and takes you right to the thread you need),that I needed to reset the home page, but not how to do that.  I had taken "iPad2 The Missing Manual" out from the Library and was able to easily find how to use spotlight to find the settings  and then how to reset the home page from there, and the icon came right back.  I couldn't find anything in the User Guide about how to do that.  Only the statement that Setting>General has a place where you can choose what you want to reset.  I'm glad I had the Missing Manual. Is there somewhere else I should have looked for this?  And did I do something to cause it? The only things I am aware of that changed was that I synched the iPad to my mac yesterday and also downloaded the Xfinity Mobile App so that I can get my Comcast emails.  If I know why I lost the Settings icon, maybe I can prevent it.  If there isn't any reason, I'll just chalk it up as one of those "technical things" and be glad that I know now how to fix it.
    Thank you

I don't think that you did anything wrong. Unless you were moving apps around and lost track of what you were putting where - that would be the only thing that you could consciously do to cause the app to move to another screen.
I have the Xfinity mobile app and never lost any app icons. I would simply chalk it up to one of those wierd things that happens from time to time when you sync.
You can download the User Guide as a free book in the iBookstore and the user guide is available as a bookmark in Safari as well. Frankly, I've not seen anything that answers every question that can come up when you are using the iPad. Google has been a great friend to me as well as has this discussion site.

  • After upgrading to iTunes Match Genius Icon Gone on iPhone

After upgrading to iTunes Match Genius Icon Gone on iPhone
So I upgrade and uploaded/matched all my songs to iTunes Match. Everything seems to be fine, except I noticed I don't have the genius functionality on my iPhone. Basically the little atom icon is missing. Does anyone have a solution for this problem.
    Thanks
    Chike

This is what works for me.
I do this once: I keep quite a bit of music loaded on my iPhone using the normal sync process with my Mac (via USB cable) prior to turning on iTunes Match (...let's me listen to at least some music even when disconnected from the net, like when on a plane).  And then I turn iTunes Match back on (and leave it turned on) and it gives me access to the rest of my music library from iCloud when I have network access (3G or Wifi) for normal listening using my whole library over Match.
I start playing a song on my iPhone (one that doesn't have the iCloud icon)
I click the home button (physical button on iPhone that closes the Music app)
I then double click the home button (opens the task manager at the bottom)
Quit Music (press/hold on the Music icon in the tray until the little red circle with an x appears to quit the app)
Then restart Music (tap the Music icon on my iPhone home screeen)
When the Music app restarts, it opens to the last song playing.  if it was one of the songs downloded to my iPhone, it has the litlle atomic symbol again and I can create a genius playlist from it.
FYI: you can enable/disable iTunes Match on the iPhone without affecting songs loaded on your iPhone (even though it says it'll replace your iPhone library, the songs are still there if you enable/disable again).  Settings>>>Music>>>iTunes Match on/off.
