Settings icon no longer installed on my phone.  Help!!

This morning all I wanted to do was remove some apps that dont get used.  Look for my setting icon in apps....not there.  Tried the = button and all I get is "linked program is no longer installed on your phone".  I called support at verizon.  I was on the phone for over 1 hour.  Restarted phone 3+ times, shut it down, removed battery, hold down volume and power button.  Nothing except when I removed battery it took my phone over an hour to turn on?!?!!??  Phone is now on but still no settings.  This is not cool.  No update recently either.  HELP

It seems that for some reason this is becoming a coming issue with the Incredible, apps are vanishing and users are being lost and I think this is why they pulled the update for the device because it really had issues......   And users complained about the VVM notification on the Thunderbolt
I hate to tell you thing but at this time it seems that hard resetting the device has been the only working solution because the location where app is located it can not be reinstalled under the stock roms configuration..
Hard Reset
Turn the power off. If your HTC DROID Incredible is frozen, pull the battery out and reinsert it
Hold the Volume Down button
Press and release the Power Button
You are now presented with a menu that allows for Fastbook, Recovery, Clear Storage, and Simlock
Select Clear Storage by pressing the Volume Down button
Press and release the Power button
Now simply confirm your decision: Volume Up for YES and Volume Down for NO

  • Airplay is not working with my phone and apple tv. airplay icon no longer comes up on phone

airplay is not working on my phone. icon no longer shows up. cant play music or videos on tv from phone anymore

As the original poster, I too had issues with my iPhone 4 (4.2.1) and Apple TV 2 playing nice. The Airplay icon was visible for music, and worked perfectly. However, when watching a video, purchased through iTunes, only the "audio" option would be selectable for Airplay. After updating the Apple TV software, everything works perfectly well. When watching a video on my iPhone and selecting the Airplay icon, one of the options is to play "video" through the Apple TV, not simply audio.
It would have been nice to know that my Apple TV needed an update when I updated my iPhone 4 to 4.2.1.

  • "THE LINKED PROGRAM IS NO LONGER INSTALLED ON YOUR PHONE"

I am getting this message when I try to use the voicemail and messaging features on my phone,  Please help!  Thanks

    Hi Dutchb,
I understand your frustration with this error message. I would like to ask a few questions, and provide you with some troubleshooting steps.
    Have you noticed that...
[1] It is always the same set of applications that were affected
[2] Those applications are the ones moved to the SD card in the phone handset
[3] The problem occurred after the phone has been mounted as drive on a computer (i.e., via a USB connection)
The problem may still occur on the phone- but you may be able to resurrect the lost applications by unmounting & remounting the SD card within Android.
To unmount & remount the SD card, simply.....
[1] Press the MENU button on your mobile handset
    [2] Select SETTINGS
[3] Select SD & PHONE STORAGE
    [4] Select UNMOUNT SD CARD
[5] Answer OK to the warning message about some application not working if the SD card is unmounted -  the UNMOUNT SD CARD option change will to MOUNT SD CARD once the operation is complete - it isn't instant, it takes about 10 seconds or so
[6] Select MOUNT SD CARD (confusingly this appears to run "instantly" as the option immediately changes back to UNMOUNT SD CARD).
[7] Press the HOME button on your phone to return to your phone's normal home screen
[8] The icons will still be "wrong" but if you wait a short time (another 10 seconds) they'll all suddenly return to their normal icon (and become operational) - I  assume this delay is due to the MOUNT operation actually completing.
Please try these steps and post back with your results.
    Thanks very much!

  • My settings icon is not showing on my iphone - how do I get it back?

My settings icon is not showing on my phone-how can u get it back?

    Hello there MegWilliams,
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities!
It sounds like you are unable to find the Settings app to configure your device.
First I would try searching the device using Spotlight.
You can also use Spotlight Search to find and open apps.
Choose which apps and content are searched. Go to Settings > General > Spotlight Search. You can also change the search order.
    From: iPhone User Guide

If you are unable to locate it there, I would attempt backing up your device to iTunes, then restore your device.

  • IOS 6.1.3 installed on iPad but no red circle with 1 on the Settings icon

    Hi,
Looking at an iPad to buy on ebay and specifically want to get one with version 6.1.3 still installed. I emailed seller, they sent pic of the About screen in Settings which shows it's on this version (also, it's an iPad 4th Gen, 128GB, if that helps), but in pics of the item, displaying the icons, on the Settings icon there is NO red circle with the 1 in it. Why would this be? I've never seen this before (everyone I know still on this version, on either iPhone or iPad, has this little red circle with the 1 in it, obviously indicating the update, which none of us diehards wanna do, til we absolutely have to of course). Does this mean that this iPad is NOT upgradeable, ever? Would love some help on this, don't want to purchase this iPad until I know why that red circle ISN'T there.
    Thanks!

    Hello mom_5_01,
The following article should be quite beneficial in your endeavor to update your iPad.
iPad: Unable to update or restore
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4097
You may encounter the following symptoms while updating or restoring your iPad:
iPad continually restarts but never displays the Home screen.
An update or restore did not complete and the iPad is no longer recognized in iTunes.
iPad stops responding, showing the Apple logo with no progress bar or a stopped progress bar, for over ten minutes.
If this occurs, you can place iPad into recovery mode and attempt to restore again. If iTunes displayed an alert with an error code, see this article before attempting the steps outlined here.
    Cheers,
    Allen

  • I have an iphone 4S, just downloaded the new iOS7 software.  Most of my apps are gone, but still installed on the phone.  How do I get the app icons back?

I have an iphone 4S, just downloaded the new iOS7 software.  Most of my  apps are gone, but still installed on the phone.  How do I get the app  icons back?

Try rebooting your iPad and see if they reappear.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.
If they still do not show up, make sure hat you don't have content restrictions set that could prevent certain apps from showing up on your iPad. Settings>General>RestrictionsAllowed Content.
if you still don't see them, connect your iPad to iTunes on your computer and you should see them in the iPad mini screens on the right side of iTunes after the iPad has been selected under "devices" and when you are in the apps pane of iTunes.

  • My settings icon is no longer showing.  How do get back on my screen?

My settings icon is no longer showing on my iPad screen.  I can found it when I search for it.  But I how do I get the icon on my screen? Thanks in advance foray help you provide.

Have you checked all your homescreens and app folders for it, also how many screens of apps have you got on the iPad (there is a maximum of 11) ?
You could try a reset and see if you can find it after the iPad has restarted : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.
Of you could try resetting your homescreens via Settings > General > Reset > Reset Home Screen Layout and see if you can then find it.

  • Iphone 3gs no longer will work  after iOs5 update, comes up with message ' there is no sim card installed in the phone. Can anyone help me please. I am working as a volunteer in a remote location in Asia and no where near an Apple shop etc?

I have tried to  update my 3GS phone and now it longer works as it comes up with message there is no sim card installed in the phone. Can anyone help please as I am no where near technical support as I am working as volunteer in remote Asian country

    Hi Allan,
Thanks for asking, I knew I had forgotten to mention something. The phone was indeed unofficially unlocked, since there were no apple stores or even premium resellers in the region I lived in during the given procedure had to be done.
I understand this could be a further complication, especially the fact the home button does not work. However, I was wondering if there would be a possibility to use a third-party application instead of iTunes to restore the iPhone? IF someone does know of such an application, I could easily solve further problems myself. Basically, the main issue here is my lack of ability to enter DFU mode.

  • My settings icon says I need an update but it won't allow me to install it.

My settings icon says I need an update but it won't allow me to install it.

Have you tried restarting the iPad or resetting it and then try to update?
Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
This should not matter - but at this point you might as well try this as well. Close all apps, restart the iPad and then try to update again.
Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Double tap the home button and the task bar will appear with all of your recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner of the app that you want to close. Tap the home button. Restart the iPad.

  • I accidentally deleted the settings icon on my I phone 4 how do I restore it

I accidentally deleted my I phone 4s settings icon how can I restore it?

The Settings app cannot be deleted.
Are you sure it wasn't accidentally moved to another page or into a folder?
Did you try a Spotlight search? (Swipe down from the middle of your home screen and type "Settings")
If you cannot find it you can reset your home screen layout:
Settings > General > Reset > Reset Home Screen Layout

  • Time Capsule Icon No Longer Appears on Desktop

Two weeks ago I had AT&T U-verse cable, internet, & phone installed. As part of that installation they installed an AT&T router/wireless combination. The ethernet cable that was previously connected to Time Capsule is now connected to the AT&T device. There is no longer any ethernet connection to Time Capsule. The Time Capsule icon still appeared on my desktop and I manually performed back-ups from my Windows applications to Time Capsule. Time Capsule went from displaying a constant green light to displaying a flashing yellow light. That worked for several days. After about a week of that there appeared on my screen a 'wizard' of some sort recognizing the status of Time Capsule. It said this 'wizard' would eliminate the flashing yellow light. I followed the steps through the 'wizard' and at one point the flashing yellow light turned to constant green. There were a few more steps in the 'wizard' and when it was finished the flashing yellow light reappeared. The next time I tried saving files from Windows I could not connect to my w: drive, and the Time Capsule icon no longer appeared on my Mac desktop. I went into Airport Utilities and there is a box checked that should display the icon properly. Any ideas what's happening? How do I restore Time Capsule so I can back-up my files. Thank you.

    Welcome to the discussions!
I don't have 10.6.1 yet, but have noticed this happens very occasionally on my MacBook Pro, but not on my iMac. Simply resetting Time Machine on my laptop has done the trick.
    Open System Preferences
    Click on Time Machine
Click your Time Capsule to highlight it
    Click Use for Backups
If that does not do it then delete the "com.apple.TimeMachine.plist" file. It's located as follows:
Macintosh HD > Library > Preferences
    Restart your computer
Then perform the same steps as above to setup Time Machine again.
The resets will not affect any of your backups.

  • Lost settings icon on upgrade

I lost my settings icon when I upgraded my new I phone 4. I was not at home, I did not back up on my computer. I do not have any search options. I have checked every folder multiple times, it no longer exists. Is there somewhere online I can reinstall?

    Try a Restore...
1: Connect the device to Your computer and open iTunes.
2: If the device appears in iTunes, select and click Restore on the Summary pane.

  • Settings icon with IOS 6

I recently updated my iPhone 4 to IOS 6.  I no longer can find the Settings icon on my desktop.  I can find Settings by swiping to the right to the blnak desktop and then key Settings into theSearch iPhone field.  How can I retore it to y desktop?

It's a pre-installed app and therefore cannot be deleted so you may have inadvertently moved it onto another screen or into a folder, check the Utilities folder if you have one.  Check all screens and folders and do a search in Spotlight, it will tell you if the app is still on your iPhone but unfortunately not where it is. If you find it on one or your screens or in a folder, press the icon until it wiggles and then drag it back to where you want it.  Alternatively you can reset your home screen in Settings>General>Reset>Reset Home Screen Layout.
