Settings icon says ar..r

Asking on behalf of a friend, they have an iPhone 4S I believe, the settings icon that you see on you main screen had a red bubble saying Ar..r.
Normally it would have a number in to make you aware of updates or notification. I've searched the net and cannot find an answer. Anyone have any ideas.
I have a screen shot but not sure how to upload to the forum post.

Have you tried restarting the iPad or resetting it and then try to update?
Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
This should not matter - but at this point you might as well try this as well. Close all apps, restart the iPad and then try to update again.
Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Double tap the home button and the task bar will appear with all of your recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner of the app that you want to close. Tap the home button. Restart the iPad.

I5 still using ios6 as of last night the phone will not connect to my Internet, in settings it says connected with the check mark however there is no wifi icon at the top of phone, have done everything possible to resolve... My i4 and pads are fine, I've had this phone for 8 months with no problems until last night , AT&T not any help, apple wants $ I thing it's a software problem.. Any one had this issue?

    - Restart the device. http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430
    - Reset the device. (Same article as above.)
    - Reset All Settings (Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings)
    - Restore from backup. http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1766 (If you don't have a backup, make one now, then skip to the next step.)
    - Restore as new device. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4137  For this step, do not re-download ANYTHING, and do not sign into your Apple ID.
    - Test the issue after each step.  If the last one does not resolve the issue, it is likely a hardware problem.

  • How do I get the music icon to show up on the home page? in the settings icon it shows I have all my songs downloaded.

How do I get the music icon to show up on the home page of the touch?  Under the settings icon it shows the songs are downloaded.

    - Move the Music app icon to the home page.  It is usually easer to do it on the computer than on the iPod itself. The manual says how to move the apps.
iPod touch User Guide (For iOS 5.0 Software)
    - I do not undersand what: "Under the settings icon it shows the songs are downloaded." means.

  • Why does my temp on my weather icon say 23?

Why does my weather icon say 23 when my other iphones say 72degrees as the main icon?
Is there a setting I need to fix to have it say 72? All my temps are set to farenheit...this bugs the **** out of me.
    please help.

well my weather icon shows 73 on it. for a few months when running 1.1.4 it showed 23 and then one day it just switched without changing any settings. it has showed 73 ever since, through 2.0 and 2.0.1, who knows might just be a bug in the software!!

  • After updating to iOS 8 the number 1 appears on the settings icon. My software is updated but the 1 will not go off. How do you clear this?

How do you clear the notification 1 on the settings icon?

Double click your Home key and swipe up on the Settings screen to close it. Also, you can try going to the Update screen and clicking "Check for Updates" again to see if that will turn it off. I know this happened to me once, and it is annoying, to say the least! I don't remember exactly what I did to fix it but it was one of the options I provided....I may have had to do it several times. Sorry - it was awhile ago, and I don't remember which one worked!

  • Settings icon just jiggles. Can't open it.

When I attempt to open the settings icon so that I can turn off bluetooth, the icon just jiggles and I am unable to open settings.  What can I do to solve this problem?

This is for the 6th gen nano
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4320
It says that if you touch and hold on an icon, they all start to jiggle, meaning you can move them around on the screen, or to the other screen.  Once they are set as desired, "press the Sleep/Wake button to save."
I couldn't find the equivalent document for the 7th gen, but it is probably the same.

  • Apple tv was working fine until power outage.  Now stuck on Computers and Settings Icons.  Cannot get back to normal function.

Apple TV was installed and functional until power outage.  Now I am stuck on Computers and Settings Icons and cannot get back to normal operation.  Can get to settings which  I have tried many times.  Any thoughts?

Happened once to me also following a nasty storm
One of the 2 things worked for me (can't recall which):
    1. Power down everything. UNPLUG  your apple TV and whatever it's connected to, including the power cord and the HDMI cable (disconnect at both ends) Wait a minute or two.
    Reconnect everything: Restart.
    2. Totally Reset the Apple TV (this is more work since you'll need to add all your settings)
Whatever worked: My Apple TV resurrected itself (unfortunately can't say the same for my DVD player).
    3. Lastly, the timing of the storm could be a cooincidence - this happened to someone else here (no storm invoived) and it turned out to be a temporary outage at Apple. see this: https://discussions.apple.com/message/18027331#18027331
For the future, if you've grown paranoid...
I always unplug my computer for heavy storms (on the advice of a techie at power protection company), But  These days, if a storm is really severe (or very extended) I also unplug my AV equipment. the The ATV is chump change compared to the cost of my other components - but I've grown really dependant on it.
Remember: Surge suppressors will take the first hit, but often that's it, their circuitry can then get blown. Also if you do unplug power,  Unplug power for everything (very easy by connecting everything to a Surge suppressor) just don't forget RF Cables or ethernet cables (If you leave your router connected).
Personally, I leave my router on, and am willing to rebuy if neccessary, in order to at least access my laptops, and iPad. BUT this means I have to unplug the ethernet cables.
Good luck, doubt your ATV is toasted if anything comes up.

  • I know Apple has pulled the iOS 8.01 update but how can I clear the update icon that is on my settings icon?

How do I clear the update icon that is appearing on my settings icon now that the iOS 8.01 update has been pulled?

You're saying you don't back up your phone regularly? You should ALWAYS back up before updating your phone. That said, try resetting first: hold down the home button and the power button for at least 10-20 seconds until you see the Apple. Hopefully you can then try to perform the update again. Start doing backups if your data is important to you.

  • Settings icon has a number

A users iPhone 4s (5.01) has the #1 next to the "Settings" icon on the home screen.
All the updates ( iOS updates have been done ) it say's the phone is up to date.
I can't see any thing else that needs attention.
    Any clue ?
    Thanks in advance

Well i did a backup since the last time and did the restore and it still has the number 1 on the settings icon.
Any more suggestions to fix this?
Here is a screenshot of my phone....

  • Why is there a 1 by the settings icon on my iPhone 4S?

Why is there a 1 by my settings icon button?

I followed the instructions, it says software is up to date, but the # 1 remains.  Any ideas on why or how to remove?

  • HT2404 I'm trying to update apps and download new ones on mi ipad, but it doesn't work... the icons say "waiting" and nothing happens for days!

I'm trying to update apps and download new ones on mi ipad, but it doesn't work... the icons say "waiting" and nothing happens for days!Help!

Here are a bunch of things that you can try to get the downloads to resume.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
Make sure that you do not have a stalled download in iTunes - a song or podcast .... if you have a download in there that did not finish, complete that one first. Only one thing can download at a time on the iPad so that could be what is causing the problem.
If that doesn't work - sign out of your account, restart the iPad and then sign in again.
Settings>iTunes & App Store>Apple ID. Tap your ID and sign out. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
Go back to Settings>iTunes & App Store>Sign in and then try to update again. Tap one waiting icon only if necessary to start the download stream.
You can also try deleting the waiting icons - tap and hold down on an icon until it wiggles - the tap the X on the icon to delete it. Then try to download again.
You can try resetting all settings. Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings. You will have to enter all of your app preferences and device settings again.
If all else fails, download the updates or the apps in iTunes on your computer and then sync the content to your iPad.

  • Easy way to draw "Settings" icon?

    Hello,
Is there an easy and accurate way to draw the "Settings" icon in Flash? Preferably as easy as say the PolyStar tool lets you draw stars and triangles.
    Thanks!

If you have a version of Flash that has the Deco tool (<CC) then you can look into the symmetry brush with a custom symbol that represents one slice of the gear, or a simple circle symbol that you rotate and then break apart to form the notches.
I'm in Flash CC right now but I can't for the life of me find this Deco tool. Do I need to install some sort of extension?
If not, the way I'd do it is use oval primitives in different colors, then position them so the notches are the way you want them, then break them apart so that they become the more malleable classic shapes. If you delete the smaller circles around the edge, that will leave notches in the bigger circle.
Sorry, but what do you mean by positioning them in notches?
I found this -- Quick way to draw gears in Flash - YouTube -- but unfortunately it doesn't produce those smooth curves.
    Many thanks!

  • My ipad does not have the amount of GB on the back and in the settings it says 56gb! Also there is no setting called regulatory. It is an ipad 4 retina w wifi that i got as a Christmas present. Could it be a fake? How can i tell?

The amount of storage that is shown on the box and in Settings are calculated differently - the package uses 1 billion bytes as a gig (i.e. decimal), whereas in Settings it's shown as the binary definition : http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2419
Also some space has been used for iOS, the built-in app and some space is lost due to formatting.
