Settings icon vanished

3GS iPhone, put it in my pocket. When I next pulled it out, the "Settings" icon is gone. Plugged into computer, saw 3.1.3 update available and installed, thinking during the upgrade, the Settings icon would have to be re-whatever so it would be visible. But no. So I restored the software and went through the whole re-sync thing. Still no settings icon. *&^%$ Tried to do the reset (hold Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time) and all it will do is ask if I really want to turn it off. This used to work.
How can it not restore the Settings icon? How is not have a Settings icon even an option? Why can't I reset?

There is no option for deleting the settings icon.
Have you moved it to another home page?

Leliforever, cheek you list of installed add-ons, the Ask toolbar can be installed without the users knowledge.

  • How do I get the music icon to show up on the home page? in the settings icon it shows I have all my songs downloaded.

How do I get the music icon to show up on the home page of the touch?  Under the settings icon it shows the songs are downloaded.

    - Move the Music app icon to the home page.  It is usually easer to do it on the computer than on the iPod itself. The manual says how to move the apps.
iPod touch User Guide (For iOS 5.0 Software)
    - I do not undersand what: "Under the settings icon it shows the songs are downloaded." means.

  • My settings icon is no longer showing.  How do get back on my screen?

My settings icon is no longer showing on my iPad screen.  I can found it when I search for it.  But I how do I get the icon on my screen? Thanks in advance foray help you provide.

Have you checked all your homescreens and app folders for it, also how many screens of apps have you got on the iPad (there is a maximum of 11) ?
You could try a reset and see if you can find it after the iPad has restarted : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.
Of you could try resetting your homescreens via Settings > General > Reset > Reset Home Screen Layout and see if you can then find it.

  • Hide settings icon from home screen in an enterprise environment

    Hi,
This question may have already been answered but I was wondering if there was anyway apart from jailbreaking the iPad, the settings icon can be hidden. I have seen it done before on other iPads that have not been jailbroken. Is there an xml file that perhaps can be written and deployed as a profile to the iPad. A quick response would be appreciated
    Thanks

I don't know if you can completely get rid of the Settings app, but there a great deal that you can do with the iPhone Conficuration Utility and the Profile Manager is OS X Lion Server.

Try a soft reset - press the home and power bottons and keep them pressed until the Apple logo comes on.  Then see if you can access Settings.

  • Hi, I bought an iPod 2 and I jailbreaked it before. I tried to download the iOS 5.0.1 from the Settings icon on my iPad 2 and then my iPad wouldn't turn on anymore and it kept on showing a screen with an arrow pointing to an iTunes symbol.

Hi, I bought an iPod 2 and I jailbreaked it before. I tried to download the iOS 5.0.1 from the Settings icon on my iPad 2 but then my iPad wouldn't turn on anymore and it kept on showing a screen with an arrow pointing to an iTunes symbol. I later learned that this was the recovery screen so I tried to put it out of the recovery mode by pressing the home button and power button simultaneously, but the screen kept on returning back to the recovery screen. I could not restore the iPad 2 on iTunes either, so I downloaded Tiny Umbrella 5.10.01 and tried to save the shsh. However, under the recovering devices section on the left side, my iPad did not appear and I only got a device titled ?18092..... I tried to save the shsh of this ?18902... anyways but this did not work. So, I clicked on the device and pressed the exit recovery but then my iPad2 screen went black with a white apple logo in the middle. This logo keeps on dimming and disappearing and even when I plug my iPad 2 to the computer, neither my iTunes nor the Tiny Umbrella notice it. I need urgent help!

At this point only a restore will fix your issue.

  • Tried to move the settings icon on my display and now its disappeared. How can i get it back??

Tried to move my settings icon on my display screen and now I've lost it. How can i get it back??

You can't delete the settings icon form an iPhone. so it either ended up in a folder with another app, or in another screen.
You'll have to look for it.
You can use Spotlight by swiping down from the middle of the screen, to search for it. If its in a folder, it will tell you which one.

My settings icon says I need an update but it won't allow me to install it.

Have you tried restarting the iPad or resetting it and then try to update?
Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
This should not matter - but at this point you might as well try this as well. Close all apps, restart the iPad and then try to update again.
Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Double tap the home button and the task bar will appear with all of your recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner of the app that you want to close. Tap the home button. Restart the iPad.

  • System settings icon gone

My system settings icon is gone from my first home page.  Any way to get it back without doing a system restore?  Thanks.

    - Try a reset, nothing will be lost.
Reset iPod touch:  Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Have you tried using the Spotlight search feature to try tofind it.  It is likely somewhere andyy just can't find it since theSynstem app can't be deleted or hidden.
    - Reset the screen layout: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Screen Layout.

  • Can't use both adjust and settings icons when creating a slideshow

I have a slideshow that begins with a poem that needs to show longer than the rest of the pictures. If I use the settings icon, then the pictures are all set the same length of time and the adjust icon does not let me make any changes to individual pictures. If I use the adjust button for each picture and do not go to settings, then I can't make the other changes I need such as "fit to music." In essence, I need to be able to use both icons but one "overrides" the other, any suggestions?

Peculiar. And you selected the specific slide you wanted to change, and then opened the Adjust pane?
Here are a couple workarounds. If you are stuck with a default slide length (eg 5seconds), copy the slide you want to show during the poem and paste it multiple times into your slideshow (20 times for each minute you want it on the screen).
Since iDVD will return you to the menu when you're changing between "slideshows" you could use the Pro version of Quicktime ($29) to assemble the pieces and avoid this interruption. The basic process could be:
    - Create a video file of your main slideshow without music by Share/Export to Full Quality Quicktime.
    - Create a video file of your "poem" slide by creating a new slideshow with a long-duration slide and no music (and Share/Export like above).
    - Now you have the two video pieces you need. Using QT Pro, open both files and Select All of the big slideshow and copy. Go to the end of the intro slide and paste (Add) to that video file.
    - Lay the audio track. Use QTime to open the song file, Select All and Copy. Go to the beginning of the slideshow video file that you've been working on, and Add. Save as a Self-contained file.
Check the slideshow and if ok, drag it onto the menu area of iDVD to import.

  • IOS 6.1.3 installed on iPad but no red circle with 1 on the Settings icon

    Hi,
Looking at an iPad to buy on ebay and specifically want to get one with version 6.1.3 still installed. I emailed seller, they sent pic of the About screen in Settings which shows it's on this version (also, it's an iPad 4th Gen, 128GB, if that helps), but in pics of the item, displaying the icons, on the Settings icon there is NO red circle with the 1 in it. Why would this be? I've never seen this before (everyone I know still on this version, on either iPhone or iPad, has this little red circle with the 1 in it, obviously indicating the update, which none of us diehards wanna do, til we absolutely have to of course). Does this mean that this iPad is NOT upgradeable, ever? Would love some help on this, don't want to purchase this iPad until I know why that red circle ISN'T there.
    Thanks!

    Hello mom_5_01,
The following article should be quite beneficial in your endeavor to update your iPad.
iPad: Unable to update or restore
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4097
You may encounter the following symptoms while updating or restoring your iPad:
iPad continually restarts but never displays the Home screen.
An update or restore did not complete and the iPad is no longer recognized in iTunes.
iPad stops responding, showing the Apple logo with no progress bar or a stopped progress bar, for over ten minutes.
If this occurs, you can place iPad into recovery mode and attempt to restore again. If iTunes displayed an alert with an error code, see this article before attempting the steps outlined here.
    Cheers,
    Allen

  • After updating to iOS 8 the number 1 appears on the settings icon. My software is updated but the 1 will not go off. How do you clear this?

How do you clear the notification 1 on the settings icon?

Double click your Home key and swipe up on the Settings screen to close it. Also, you can try going to the Update screen and clicking "Check for Updates" again to see if that will turn it off. I know this happened to me once, and it is annoying, to say the least! I don't remember exactly what I did to fix it but it was one of the options I provided....I may have had to do it several times. Sorry - it was awhile ago, and I don't remember which one worked!
