Settings in Safari on Laptop

Just got a MacBook Pro. For some reason my settings in Safari didn't follow over. How do I get them on the laptop?

HI,
You can use the Migration Assistant (Applications/Utilities) You will need a Firewire cable.
You can import Safari Bookmarks from the old Mac to the new without using the Migration Assistant.
On the old Mac launch Safari. From the Safari Menu Bar click File/Export Bookmarks.
You can e-mail the Safari.Bookmarks.html file to your new MBPro or you can send that file via Bluetooth.
One you have that file on the MBPro, launch Safari. Go to the menu bar click File/Import Bookmarks.

I was playing with my ipad settings and noted in he advanced settings of Safari there was a place to view "website databases".  When I selected this I saw a multitude of websites.
Can anyone tell me how these get there?  Can a website be posted even if it was never went to?  What does the space amount mean?  For example, 1.5 kb...is this quite a bit?  Would it indicate someone has gone to a site multiple times?
I share my ipad with my teenage daughter and I'm trying to find out if she's lying to me.  Obviously she's swearing that she has "no idea" how these got there and I'm trying to keep her safe (she's only 14).
    Thanks everyone.

Think of your PC and the 'temporary internet folder' where it keeps cached copies of web pages or elements off a web page for 'quicker display the next time you visit'. That's pretty much what that folder is. 1.5K is tiny. Probably just a basic page with some text on it. (you might be confusing 1.5K with 1.5 megabyte....megabyte is large...it's roughly 1000 kilobytes, so the 1.5K is a tiny file)
As far as I know, the only way info gets into that folder is if the browser has been to that site.
if you have a concern there are browsers out there, McGruff is one i've seen recommended, that allow some degree of parental control and supervision. That or you could passcode lock the iPad or enable the restrictions to turn off some parts of the device to have some control.

  • How can I change the settings in Safari to list the open windows chronologically instead of alphabetically?

How can I change the settings in Safari to list the open windows chronologically instead of alphabetically?  I keep a lot of open windows e.g., 25 windows and many tabs on each) and like to work between a few at a time.  The problem is that Safari reorganizes windows alphabetically.  Once I open a new window, it take a while to find the windows I'm looking for.  Chrome and Firefox list the open windows chronologically which I find much easier.  The newest windows are at the bottom of the list.

When I try to start Settings, or Safari, the programmes close immediately and does not allow me to ghange anything or get connected in the internet. How can i set back factory settings? can somebody help me?

    Hello nikos260,
It sounds like Safari and Settings will immediately close when you try to open them.  I recommend following steps in the following tutorial to address an issue like this (you can skip step 2 "Recharge iPad" because it's not related to this issue):

  • Is there a problem with the cookie settings in Safari 6?

Hoping someone can help me... I run a Shopify ecommerce store and am getting inundated with Safari customers complaining about their shopping carts being emptied before they have completed their shopping.  Shopify have washed their hands of the problem, claiming that it is the cookie settings in Safari.  This has never happened before (I have Safari 5 on my Mac and it works perfectly fine). Shopify has told me I need to tell all my customers to change their cookie settings which is mission impossible - most of them wouldn't even know what cookies are let alone be willing to start playing around with their settings.  And what about all the customers I'm losing who aren't complaining to me?  Those who are just getting peeved off with my webstore not working and shopping elsewhere? Please tell me this is a bug that Safari are working on?  I'm pretty lost as to what I can do to fix the problem?

Hi Andy, I do have my own domain name - organicexpress.co.nz
I can't see any links for yoursitename.myshopify.com/somepage though, they seem to all be organicexpress.co.nz/somepage however when I first set up my shopify site it was organic-express.myshopify.com. I thought it might be the cart page still set at the shopify domain but it doesn't seem to be.
The thing that is puzzling me most is that this problem only began happening about 4-5 weeks ago.  Prior to that, my regular customers who use Safari weren't having any problems.  Another thing too, sometimes it does work - perhaps if the customer completes their order under a certain time frame or perhaps only purchases a few items?  Most of my customers buy 15+ items per order.

  • Is there a back-end way to maintain print settings in Safari?

    Hey folks!
The evironment is a business software that is web-based, and one of its functions is receipt printing on a TSP Star receipt printer.  In order to print correctly, the paper size must be set to 72mm x 200mm (or 72mm x Receipt).  After saving the preset and printing, one finds that the next time a receipt is printed the paper size reverts to US Letter.
The main issue with this is a feature in the software that allows automatic printing (avoiding a print options window each time you ring up a transaction), but those presets are always off.  Changing the settings in System Preferences doesn't hold in Safari!  The seem to in Firefox, but there is no peripheral device options to open a cash drawer as well (six of one, half dozen of the other!).
So back to this question:  Is there a file somewhere that can be altered so that the default paper size will ALWAYS be 72x200?  I'm not entirely Mac literate but I know of .plist files, and was curious if editing one of those would help fix the issue.
Any help would make you a hero!

Just wondered if there was another way?
If doing a restore is the only way, would someone be able to tell me how to do it and whether or not I will have a heck of a time getting all my info & apps back onto my phone afterwards?
    Thanks!
How does this relate to your first post?
Are you talking about restoring as new? or restoring to a backup?
    Why are you restoring?
If it is to recover History  and you think that you have a backup that contains the missing history you could restore to that. Doing this will restore your iPad to the state that it was in at the time of the backup, Apps, Games, etc.
Note that there are PC and Mac applicatons that can read iPad backup files and extract information. Check the internet for these. I do no know if they extract Safari History.

  • Safari, maps, utube and app store will not open on my ipad1?  If I go to Settings and Safari and Clear Cookies, then Settings will close abruptly.  How to fix?

    Hi,
Neither Safari, utube, maps, itunes or app store will open on my ipad1.  I tried to go to Settings, Safari and Clear Cookies - but when I do that Settings will abruptly close.  How to fix.  I tried restore - di not work.
    Thankyou,

Try downloading any free app and see if that helps to reset the iPad and return your apps to normal. If that doesn't work ...
Close all apps. Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Quit/close open apps by double tapping the home button and the task bar will appear with all of you recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner to close the apps. Restart the iPad. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button. If that doesn't help try this ...
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.

  • Print settings in Safari

How do you change the settings so when you click on the title bar printer ICON it does not default to landscape mode??
I would also like to get rid of the web address that prints on the very bottom of a print out when printing a web page.
    Any suggestions??

    Greetings,
You need to change your Page Setup options. Assuming your using Safari 3.2.x, I believe you need to go to File > Print… in Safari and, select "Page Attributes" from the pop-down menu for Settings, select your paper orientation, then print your document. Your orientation should remain the same until you change it. The Page Setup… options are part of the Print… window in Safari versions higher than 3.2.1, if memory serves me; I could be wrong.
For the headers and footers on a web page, you can omit those from the Print… window by choosing Safari from the pop-down list directly underneath the "Presets" text and uncheck the box where it says "Print headers and footers".

  • How to reset to default settings for safari 4.1.3

Need a bit of help here... for some reason I'm not getting use of Safari 4.1.3, not able to open sites, the Open location function in pull down menu is greyed out and no bar for typing in sites I want to browse. I think I just may have to reset Safari to default settings, but not sure how... Opening up Preferences is no help.

    Hi..
I hate to say this but v10.4.11 with Safari 4.1.3 is really outdated. You may have problems loading websites for that reason alone and lack of security. Apple has not updated Safari for Tiger for years.
    But try a reset.
From your Safari menu bar click Safari > Reset Safari
    Select the following:
    Clear history
    Reset Top Sites
    Remove all webpage preview images
    Empty the cache
    Clear the Downloads window
    Remove all cookies
    Remove all website icons
    Click Reset
Quit and relaunch Safari. See if that made a difference.
I have an iBook G4 running v10.4 with Safari 4.1.3 and more often than not, websites won't load. Or I'll see the, "your browser is not supported', dialog.
You might want to consider a new Mac at some point.

  • Adjust PDF view settings in Safari

I use the default PDF viewer in Safari to save scientific articles. When I open a PDF document, the view setting is always too small. The view setting (seen when control-clicking) is "Actual size/single page/continuous." I would like to change the default view setting from actual size to auto size. How do I go about this with Safari 2?
Also, is there a way to change the default view settings easily in Safari 3? If so, I will upgrade to the beta.

safari 3 increases the default pdf zoom level, remembers your last pdf zoom setting (even across sessions), and keeps this separate from your html zoom.
you could try manually adjusting WebKitPDFScaleFactor, say:
defaults write -app safari WebKitPDFScaleFactor 1.75
but i'm not sure if that will work in safari 2.
