"Settings" menu item disabled - why????

i have a flash app which does audio recording via our fms server at influxis.com. so i do the usual stuff like try and open a microphone etc. when the app first loads it tries to find a mic, but the microphone library says the mic is muted. also, when i right-click on the app, the "Settings..." menu item is disabled. why? normally the user could select a mic to use via this dialog box. the only way to get it working is to open up another app that does video recording, right-click, select "Settings" (not disabled for this app!) then set the microphone settings.
my big question is why the "settings" menu item is disabled for my app???

it's amazing, this issue has been hounding me for weeks, i have trawled the net to no avail, and yesterday afternoon, a few hours after posting, i came across a blog somewhere that posited this solution - i fired up flash, bumped up the height of my app, and hey presto! it worked! and this is exactly what you have found out too!
a bit obscure, but at least i know now what is going on!
thanks for asking around and finding out, and best of all i now know the exact minimum dimensions!
do you think this fact should be put somewhere in the as3 online doco? i reckon mention of it on a few pages like Microphone and Video classes could be very useful....

I have no idea what it has ever been used for (Save As usually being the route to export to a different format), but it exists and is greyed out in PSE12 as well. I suspect a hangover from an old version.

Portal internal workflow - don't have Workflow Settings menu item

Hi All,
I am a new to webcenter portal and got a problem when trying to configure internal workflow.
According to the oracle document, "http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E29542_01/doc.1111/e27603/cont_workflow.htm#WCPAA11225"
it should have an "Workflow Settings" menu item in the folder details page.
But my webcenter portal don't have it.

Why are iTunes, View, Window, and Help menu items disabled?

I am frequently encountering an issue in iTunes 10.5 (141) where all the menu items in the iTunes, View, Window, and Help menus are disabled (greyed out). Why is this happening and can it be stopped?
I've seen this issue on different Mac OS X 10.7.2 machines. It seems to occur during playlist manipulation, where I'm making new playlists, adding items to them and editing them and the items. In the worst cases, I'm forced to quit and restart iTunes, although I have to quit by using the context menu option in the Dock as the Quit option is disabled in the application.
I'd appreciate any advice on workarounds for this that don't involve quitting and restarting iTunes.

I'm also having the same issue. It was happening with 10.5.1 and now still with 10.5.2. I'm using a 2008 iMac running 10.6.8. I do not use iTunes Match. This seems to happen for no apparent reason i/o/w, I can't determine a pattern as to when it happens, but it occurs about once in every 10 times that iTunes is open and it seems to happen after it's been open for a while, but again, no particular pattern.
Sometimes, all the menu items are grayed out, and other times, 70% of the menu items are grayed out. I can still use the other functionality in iTunes, but must must Quit from the dock (it quits gracefully and no Force Quit is necessary). Relaunching restores eveything to normal for about a week.
I work with technical diagnostic issues and can usually pinpoint a problem, isolate an issue, or determine a pattern, but this one has me stumped. I thought 10.5.2 might fix it, but no. Maybe 10.5.3?

Query panel menu item disabled in trial version

I am using the trial verison of CR 2008 ..... the "query panel" menu item under the database expert is disabled so I cannot explore this feature to change my report query. how can this be enabled so I can use it ??

If you look in the Crystal help file and search on Query panel you'll get this:
"Use the Query Panel command to open the Business Objects Query Panel in Crystal Reports. In the Query Panel, you can build and modify queries and filter universe data that the program returns to Crystal Reports."
It only works when you are connected to Business Object Enterprise.
And to answer your question/issue. You can't modify the Query CR builds if that is what you are trying to accomplish. Your only option is to use a Command Object where you write the SQL statement, then you can edit it in the Command Edit option.

ARD Menu Items disable....

Hi All
2 Macbooks exact in model and OS X Leopard. All up to date.. Using latest ver. of ARD.. I can connect to from my system to the other on the local network and over the internet. I can access all settings, system pref's and even lock the screen.. but for some reason the text menu to manage the system on ARD is all disabled. I have full access set on the system prefs under "remote management" I also have checked the "remote login"
Any sugestions??

Thanks for the reply... but I think I figured it out by accident.. can you please tell me if this sounds correct... If the window where I see the other systems desktop is open, the menu is disabled. but if I just select the system on the ARD list of systems, the menu is enabled ... and I can do the commands from there.. All of them.

IChat critical menu items disabled

I recently lost the ability to sign into my AIM and Jabber accounts (or any accounts) and many critical menu items are disabled (about, preferences, log in, etc).
I have uninstalled and reinstalled iChat from the OS X disks, and no change.
Any ideas how to start from scratch to regain iChat?
Background: I installed chax and growl. I have uninstalled both and after the first reinstall of iChat, removed all the iChat plist items and reinstalled to build them from scratch. Nothing.

When you reinstalled iChat did your install the 10.5.6combo to bring iChat back up to date.

Adobe Reader Security Settings menu item missing

On a user PC, under Adobe Reader XI (11.0.2), I am not finding the Security Setting Menu option. I searched for this, and I found out that it must be under "Edit/Protection".

Also, I found another issue.
After I managed to create the Signature using Windows Certificate Option, I tried to take a backup from the certificate store from Internet Options -> Content -> Certificate -> Export, then I am unable to export the Private Key. Only the public key option is available, and the other option "Yes, export the Private key" is dimmed or disabled.
Is this also new feature of Adobe Reader XI?
I am 100% sure that in other installations on another PC, after I create the Windows Certificate of the Digital Signature from Adobe Reader Security Settings, then I can take a backup of this certificate from Internet Options and I can select this option "Yes, export the Private key" during export of the certificate.
Appreciate your feedback on this matter.

Features of "Mail, Contacts, Calendars" under Settings menue are disabled

I'm having major issues with the "Mail, Contacts, Calendars" section of settings (in iPhone 5S). I have synchronized my phone with MS office Outlook 2013 for mail, calendar and contacts, it was running well. but problem arise when wanted to erase a account from iphone, I see all features in "Mail, Contacts, Calendars" is disabled and no features of mail accounts can be changed. I need to changed one of my email account but it can not be inputted in iphone, and hence the phone is not exchanging any email. . I am in great trouble. I not even able to delete any account from it. please help me.

I just got off the phone with Apple Support. Fantastic service! I love Apple.
Okay, this is what they had me do, and it fixed all of my issues:
Go to Settings -> General -> Reset -> Reset Network SettingsThis deletes all of your Wi-Fi settings and passwords, among other things, apparently.
The phone thinks for a while, and then restarts.
Go to Settings -> Wi-Fi -> and sign into your Wi-Fi network, as usual
That's IT!!
After that, I was able to delete accounts freely, set up a new account, change the options I wanted, and now everything works beautifully.
It's such a simple fix, and I wish I had thought of it on my own, but I never would've thought that all of these problems were caused by a need to flush out the network settings. Anyway, I hope this might help anyone else who runs into the same problem. Thanks for your help, pdroth.

Source Reformat menu item disabled for some XML files, but not all

For some reason, the 'Reformat' option isn't available for some of my XML files (in Source menu it's disabled, in the right-click pop up menu it's not even there). For example in my META-INF folder it's enabled for .wsdl files but not .xml files. In the same project, it's enabled for all .xml files in the WEB-INF folder.
Any idea what's going on?

This is a simple .wmv file, that I have copied, burned, created a disk image, made a copy of and sent to the UK, Germany, Ireland and even New Jersey. It has been played on a MacBook Pro, a MacBook, a Dell whatever, a Sony stand alone DVD player, an LG DVD player. At least three nieces or nephews, and at least 2 canines have put it through ISO 9XXX rigors.
The problem is that Apple Quick Time 7 Pro with Flip4Mac Pro "can't handle it"
It opens fine, it plays fine --- but when I try to "output" it via the FILE menu - all of the options

Export ...
Export to Web ...
are greyed out.
I know nothing abour codecs and wrappers but I tihnk that this is the problem.
What should I know about the file?
Ffor example, years ago, all you needed to know about a Mac file was the "Creator" and the "Type" - both were 4 character codes. something like ADOB for Adobe and PMK2 for Pagemaker 2.0.
Any help identifying the file and what I can use to get it onto my iPhone will be appreciated.

Blinking HDMI menu items when HDMI cable is connected - Diagnosis?

I've been streaming live video through my Vixia HF G10 for the last year. Recently it has started to fail to send a signal through the miniHDMI out (or the capture card has failed to recognize it). I have noticed that when I connect my Vixia HF G10 to my Blackmagic Intensity Pro capture card, the HDMI options in the settings menu *blink*. Why is this? I can't find anything in the manual. I have already: 1. changed HDMI cords 2. reseated the capture card in the PC. 3. reset the camera. 4. added a signal repeater equalizer in line for the HDMI. Thanks for your help!

When the connection status is blinking, this usually means there is a bad connection or the connection is not supported. Typically, removing the extras in the connection or changing cables clears this right up.
What happens when you connect the camcorder via HDMI directly to a TV?

Broken menu item

My site publishes nicely ... except that one menu item disables all the others when it is clicked.
So, I have Welcome, .... ,Rates, Contact.
All the menu items work properly at first.
But when I click Rates, then the other menu items, eg Welcome, are now inactively. There's no way to leave the Rates page!!! ???

I wiped the site off the server again, and republished. The problem is not occurring now. I've not done anything new: restarted the Mac, wiped the server, etc. Vexing!

Why does DW disable insert menu items?

This must be a configuration option someplace, but in general, why would DW disable Insert menu items?
I am in .cfm file, in clearly an unlocked area of a page where I should be allowed to insert hyper links, email links, horizontal rules, images, tables. But on the Insert menu, each of those items is disabled (and others, but you get the point). Since the insert menu items are disabled, the keystroke shortcuts for those actions don't function.
I can manually type in these tags, and I can insert them from the Insert window.
I start a brand new .cfm page, and the insert menu is fine.
It appears DW is examining the code and deciding [INCORRECTLY] what is appropriate to insert via the menu.

Why does LV(8.0.1) still track the keyboard shortcuts of disabled menu items?

Hello all,
when I disable a (super-) menu item, the submenu-items are grayed out as expected. But they still accept their keyboard- shortcuts. Is this a bug in LV? If I explicitly disable the submenu- items, all works fine, but the simple method would be nicer and comprehensibly.
I made a VI to illustrate.

it seems a bit strange but at the end it is a absolutely correct behaviour. If you deactivate a menu item than all sub-menu items are deactivated in the menu bar. But that is only a feature of the menu bar. To disable the short cut you have to deactivate the sub-menu item itself. In you zip-file the <STRG - C> is deactivated but the <STRG - V> still works. That depends on the settings in your test3.vi where you defined the items to be disabled. If you add "Paste" to the array of items or if you disable all items then the shortcuts will be disabled as well.

I have an ipad 2 the game center it know is telling me that game center is currently disabled,you can change this in the settings menu. I do not know were in the settings to look, to fix the settings

i am getting a message on my ipad2, i was playing frogger pinball and and the front says story, challenge, add and store next to store it has a leaf with 3 people icons i clicked on that, and i am getting a message that says i hit game center on the bottom the message reads game center is currently disabled. you can change this in the settings menu I have gone to the settings menu but I am not clear as to were to fix the program.

i got your response and i went to the restrictions, and I have gone to game center on the bottom it says multiplayer game on adding friends on, i have tried to turn it off and it wont let me, first shoul i try to shut it off and 2nd do you know why it might not be letting me do so it i should be
