Settings on FCP 7 for XF300

I have tried to copy and paste my question from another orum where I posted it, but no dice. So here is the link to the other thread
http://forums.dvdoctor.net/showthread.php?p=396029#post396029
Can anyone help?
Thanks.

And why couldn't you copy and paste from the other post.  Works for me.  Here it is.
For quite a while I was only working with 1080i AVCHD material (from a Sony NX5) inside FCP 7. When first setting up FCP7 for AVCHD I followed an online tutorial from Lynda.com where it gave me the settings to enter in the ‘Easy Setup’ section. I can’t recall exactly what they were but it worked fine and life was good.
A few months ago we purchased a Canon XF300 which uses a MPEG-2 codec with an MXF file format. Now according to Michael Reichmann and Chris Sanderson of
http://www.luminous-landscape.com/re...on-xf300.shtml
they suggest the following when using XF footage inside FCP 7:
"Canon's flavour of MPEG-2 is editable natively by many professional NLEs, with the exception of Apple's Final Cut Studio, where it is handed by a provided Canon plug-in. This plug-in connects to Log and Transfer for transcoding (optional) and importing. Many people like to transcode to a robust editing format such as ProRes 422. The plug-in does this quite rapidly – about 3X real-time. But if you set Log and Transfer to import in Native format, rather than a flavour of ProRes, all that will happen is that the file will be rewrapped rather than transcoded. The time that this takes is the same as simply copying the files off the card in the Finder, and the file size turns out to be less than half that of ProRes 422. This is my preferred approach."
So I tried what they suggested, i.e. selecting the ‘native format’ in the Log and Transfer preferences, and sure enough FCP provides files that smaller and transcode faster through Log and Transfer.
But when I look at the ‘Item Properties’ for any of these natively transcoded XF clips (which were shot in 1080i) the ‘Compressor’ field is shown as ‘XDCAM HD422 1080i (50Mb/s)’.
So I am a little confused since I can’t see/equate the link between XF300 Mpeg-2 footage and XDCAM HD422.
Now maybe this is just a setting that was left over from the days when I was editing AVCHD, I’m not really sure…. and sadly I’m not skilled enough in this area of video to know what to change it to.
So my first question is can anyone shed some light on all this?
Secondly I would like to go into the ‘Easy Setup’ (currently set on ‘All Formats’ and ‘Custom Setup’ under the ‘Use’ section) and change it to the most appropriate settings for future XF300 based projects.
With this in mind it might be useful if I provide some of current settings found in my FCP ‘Audio/Video Settings’ (which echo the current ‘Custom Setup’ in Easy Setup.
But again keep in mind the may be leftovers from the former AVCHD/NX5 days.
Sequence Preset: Apple ProRes 422 (LT) 1920x1080 50i 48kHz
Capture Preset: Blackmagic HDTV 1080i 50 – Apple ProRes (HQ)
Video Playback: Blackmagic HDTV 1080i 50 (1920 x 1080)
Given the above settings it’s probably no surprise to know that inside our Mac we have a Blackmagic Intensity Pro breakout card providing an HDMI output to a HDTV.

  • What are the best sequence settings in FCP 5 for exporting screen capture video footage?

I capture video footage of websites in order to showcase in a demo reel. Using Snapz Pro, the compression type I have found to have the best quality is H264. When I take this footage into FCP (v5.1.4), I choose DV NTSC 48khz for the sequence setting. If I then select H264 for the sequence compression type, when I go to render I get a 'Codec error.'
The only way I am able to render properly is by choosing DV NTSC 48khz for the sequence setting and DV/DVCPRO-NTSC as my sequence compression type. The problem with this though is I get a perfect picture in the Viewer, but the picture quality in the Canvas (and the subsequent exported video) is slightly blurred.
I've been trying to find a solution to this problem off and on for years. I've finally decided now to get to the bottom of the issue. If you can solve this one you are my hero!
    Ted

Thanks for the suggestions. I've tried using DVCPRO HD in the past, but the picture quality of the captured screen footage turns out blurry. The only codecs I've found that provide a perfectly clear image are H264, Animation and Uncompressed 8-bit. The problem with the latter two is that video files lasting only a few seconds measure in the 100s of MBs. Working with files that large would slow my editing and rendering down to a non-workable length.
I just don't understand why I can't edit H264 video if my sequence codec is set to H264. The 'Codec error' I get is baffling.

  • Permanent Crash related to changing display settings while FCP is open.

Recently, the display settings (arrangement) on my two monitors started changing by itself while I was working in FCP 6.5. I'm using ancient monitors (Viewsonic MB90 and Mitsubishi Diamond Pro 920. I just don't have the money to upgrade right now). Tis was annoying but I dealt with the problem by creating two different windows layouts. Then things got worse (the only thing I had done was install 8 gigs of additional memory on top of the original 2). FCP started crashing and now I can't even open the application. It doesn't react.
Apple recently posted a not very informative acknowledgement of the problem with changing display settings while FCP is open, but it doesn't suggest solutions to my problem. It would be helpful to know a) what resolution and refresh rates are best for these old monitors and b)how to open FCP again. Your help is greatly appreciated.

    THIS IS IT!
Disabling the nVidia deep colors for 3d applications solved the uber-annoying "flicker-screen-settings-and-disrupt/crash-other-programs" issue. I specifically only disabled deep colors for Premiere, not for all 3d applications I use, because none of them have caused the same problem as Premiere.
This display-screen setting issue probably occurred because I use a Dell u3011 monitor which displays Adobe RGB color gamut, not just sRGB.
However, now this brings up another question with disabling deep colors (effectively disabling the Adobe RGB use of the Dell monitor):
QUESTION: If I have CG-rendered frames that seem to be created in sRGB and Adobe RGB (in two different programs), what color space should I be mixing/editing them in?
I'm somewhat of a novice with the color spectrum/gamut issue. From what I understand, if I edit both CG images in sRGB, I'll be losing color data from the Adobe RGB-created CG image. If I edit both CG images in Adobe RGB, will I create minor banding effects on the sRGB image because it doesn't have the color range that I'm editing in? Perhaps my question is more relevant to AfterEffects compositing of the images rather than simply/only editing them in Premiere.
The end result is something like an architectural film/ flythrough.
    Thanks,
    -Matt

  • Export FCP movie for burning in iDVD

I created a 30 minute movie in Final cut pro. When I exported the file, it was 25 gig. I want to burn the movie to DVD in Imovie and obviously it was a smidge large.. What are the best and most effective settings in FCP to do this. I am new to FCP so any help is greatly appreciated.

It doesn't matter how large the file is.
Drop it into iDVD and iDVD should compress it to a suitable size for a DVD.
The only measurement that matters is the length as iDVD cannot deal with projects longer than around 2 hours.

  • FCP export for ATV with chapters

Hi, I have about an hour of PAL DV edited content in FCP 6, with about 10 chapter points. I've created my DVD and now I want to keep a copy for Apple TV with chapter points included. Can anyone advise which way to do this, as I've tried some options using QT export/convert and Compressor etc. but all unsatisfactory. When I get a good quality ATV export it doesn't have the chapters included. Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks.
    Chris

Yes, I can see them ok and have managed to export in various formats with them intact. My problem is more to do with knowing the right settings/codec to export for Apple TV but with the chapters in there still. I've got good looking ATV compliant exports, and I've got various formats with the chapters in, but not both. It would seem like a really basic thing to want to do, but seems really elusive (unless I'm being dumb!). I actually started out in iMovie as it's a family video and pretty basic edits etc. but iMovie can't do this either
    Thanks, chris

Hi sir im using fcp 7 for video editing in i mac, how can i edit mts files in fcp 7 without log n transfer, is their solution for fcp 7?

    >No, you are not right.
Going to question the biggest contributor to this forum?  (Yes, my ego is talking).  OK then...
    >Install the QT-Plugin, restart your Mac and you will be able to import and use .mts files in FCP 7.
Sure...yes, that makes it POSSIBLE to read the files natively in FCP...if they come from a Panasonic camera. BUT...just try working with those files.  Right away the system won't be nearly as responsive as it would if they were ProRes. First...there are no sequence settings for that format...so you'll have to use ProRes and have a green render bar.  BUT, that's no big deal.  The big deal is trying to work with the AVCHD format, which is VERY processor intensive...inside an application that doesn't like to work with much outside of the FCP editing codecs.
Is it possible? Sure? Will it work well...will you be as zippy and error free as if you converted to ProRes? Not by a long shot.  OH, but don't just take my word for it.  Go ahead...try it and see.  No skin off my nose...no waste of my time.  See how well this works.
I'm just here to relate real world working solutions to issues.  And yes, I did try that plugin, and boy, was editing a pain.

  • I need help with export settings of FCP project edited HDV 16:9

    Hello All,
I have searched the forum only to become more confused. I shot and edited my first HD project and am ready to burn it. What are the settings needed by DVDSP for my FCP export?
    FCP 6.0.5
    OSX 10.5.6
    1080i

    Export to 16:9 SD m2v.
Usually I use self contained with an uncompressed Codec then bring that into Compressor to use Virtual Clusters. Start with a Compressor preset that is 16:9 SD that fits the footage (in other words if the video is 67 minutes, start with the 90 Minutes) and adjust frame filters to resize "better"
Some more general info on encoding to make things fit and issues to keep in mind

  • What MP4 Compressor settings should I choose for a 10 min 9GB QT video to be uploaded onto a website?

What MP4 settings should I choose for a 10 min 9GB QT video (exported from FCP) to be uploaded onto a website?
They said 'I've been trying to upload the video to our website but our IT contact has told me that it is too big.  Could you send the file in MP4 format compressed for web?'
Any thoughts would be really appreciated.
    Warm regards
    Peter

    Hi,
Go to Compressor inspector window>Encoder tab>Click Video: Settings button>In the window that comes up go to Data Rate and change the default 220 Kbits/sec to 150.
The resulting file (if DV, under a minute) will definiteltly be under 2MB and quality good enough. Remember that quality always depends on the source, the greater your original footage looks the better the compression result.

I wish to reset my ipad (as advised by the Apple Store) to attempt to resolve an issue with a non-responsive part of the screen..  However, when I select General>Reset>Erase all content and Settings, I am prompted for a a Restrictions Passcode (which I have never set).  I have now entered random codes 11 times and the ipad has not reset. How do I get past this?  I am now at the point where I have to wait 60 mins before I can enter another random passcode.  I just want the ipad to clear down, erase everything so I can start again.

The other option is to force iPad into Recovery Mode.

  • What are the best settings to export video for Blip.tv?

I have CS5.5 and Adobe Premiere Pro.
Their suggestions are anything but helpful for Adobe:
    http://support.blip.tv/entries/344530-how-should-i-export-my-videos-fo r-blip-tv
Thing is, I had Premiere Elements 8 and 10, which both had no issues with making and uploading MPGs, but Pro's settings are... well, I'd call them "messed up". Part of the issue might be that Elements and Pro ands unforgiveably disimilar in too many aspects (I'd argue 8 was functionally better than 10). Why are settings seemingly unavailable, or completely different? I wasted an entire day, rendering the same video in different formats, because Pro didn;t have the same available settings as I could with Elements 10.
Regardless of my complaints. The question is still this: What settings should I use for esporting videos to Blip.tv? The answer never really gets answered over there, but I am asking there too.
Ultimately, I'm sending MP4 videos, and they are absolutely fine on my computer, but are squished over there. So if anyone else has any more experience with Blip.tv, maybe they can answer it. They don;t seem to like Adobe/PC software much to care to give settings.

    ICE 2009 I´ll be there -> http://www.ice-lingen.de/

    Hi Denis,
At this time, I suggest you apply following hotfix on a problem Outlook 2007 client to check whether the error still exists:
Error message when you try to add a delegate in Outlook 2007: "The Delegates settings were not saved correctly"
    http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;950794
I would like to explain that the hotfix is included in Office 2007 Service Pack 2. Therefore, you can simple install SP2 on Outlook 2007 and create the registry key indicated in the KB article.
Please understand that before this hotfix was created, the "Send on Behalf" (PublicDelegates) permission was considered a mandatory part of adding a delegate. This hotfix lets you add the delegate without setting the "Send on Behalf" (PublicDelegates) property.
The "Send on Behalf" permission is not needed for meeting-related messages. Therefore, even without the "Send on Behalf" permission, delegates can successfully send meeting requests and responses on behalf of the calendar owner. However, when you use a delegate that does not have the "Send on Behalf" permission to send a non-meeting-related message on behalf of the owner, the operation fails.
After installing the hotfix and apply the registry key change, if the error can be resolved, we can conclude that the issue occurs due to Outlook is not able to update the PublicDelegates attribute successfully due to permission issue. After your previous post, I notice the issue occurs even if you create a new user.
At this time, would you please let me know whether the new user belongs to any group (except domain users)? I also suggest you use DSACLS tool to export the ACLs of the user object to check whether acl may reject the user to update AD attribute.
DSACLS “distinguished name of the user object” >acls.txt
    Thanks,
    Mike

It is not about payment of $19.95 (Igalsses) or $7.99(webcam settings). This is a very basic setting that should be available in the system settings. The automatic setting of the internal cam does not work great on low lighting as everyone is aware.
i am just amazed how users take in lying down and suggest solutions such as paying for a 3rd party paid app or improving the lighting in your room.
