Settings that may prohibit word wrap.

Are there any settings in InDesign preferences or anywhere else that might prohibit word wrap from working in a document.  The word wrap functions in a design file I'm working on are not working, but when I do the same steps in a new blank document it works fine.
Any ideas?
Thanks

Off the top of my head:
1. No Break set as a default text attribute.
2. Unbreakable long words and hyphenation switched off.
3. A font so large, and a text frame so narrow, that poor ID cannot find a valid breaking point in the very first word.

  • Looking for a word processor without word wrap, text edit doesn't cut it

    I'm looking for a word processor without word wrap, text edit doesn't work. In text edit, it automatically scoots my text over to the next line but I just want it to keep going with a horizontal scrollbar. Is there a text editor I can download from the app store or can I get textedit to work somehow where it uses a horizontal scroll bar instead of entering text to the next line?

    Hi,
    thought TextWrangler can do it.
    But it seems that the 'no word-wrap' "feature" isn't that much wanted anymore.
    Maybe one of these http://www.macupdate.com/find/mac/text%20editor can do it.

  • Word wrap - add return within cell

    I have the need of putting word(s) on definitive lines within a cell. The particular case I am working with at the moment is a cemetery listing that has additional information particularly multiple spouses. I want each spouse's name to appear on a different line within that cell which Xcel does by using either ctl/enter or option/enter rather than putting a number of spaces in a wrapped cell so the next name would shift to the next line. Does Numbers have something similar?
    Tks

    Found another neat feature that also works with word wrap. Use Inspector to Merge two or more cells, I happen to have a long text in the first cell of three cell I wanted to use. Follow that by adding Word Wrap while still in Inspector. Low and Behold, the text that far exceeded the one cell now uses three cell for display and if the data then exceeds that amount of space it wraps as if the three cell are a single cell. It just so happened that the data I mentioned above needed three lines. Also, if you want specific parts of the data to be on specific lines within the unified cell, both line break functions previously mentioned will force the next part of the data to go to the next line ad infintum(??) or until the combined cell space/character limit is reached.

  • Word Wrap very annoying?

    I just switched over to Dreamweaver because of the built in ftp server functionality.  So far, I have found it to be a very nice editor.
    One problem I have it with wordwarp in the coding.
    If a line is wrapped, why does it not indent to the same column that the line started on.
    For example if I was inside several elements and this particular <p> started in column 20, if the line runs over, it wraps and the next line starts on column 1.  This makes the code very hard to read as you have out of place text.
    <body>
         <div>
              <p>This is just a long sentence with a bunch of rambling so the line will wrap back
    around to the first column so you can see what I am talking about.
         <div>
    </body>
    It would be so much better if it looked like this:
    <body>
         <div>
              <p>This is just a long sentence with a bunch of rambling so the line will wrap back
              around to the first column so you can see what I am talking about.
         <div>
    </body>
    Is there way to do this?
    I have searched the adobe forums and google, but I feel like I am just searching for the wrong thing because all I ever come up with at the most is how to turn word wrapping on or off.

    You can turn on that style of word wrapping, but it's not enabled by default because it relies on inserting a hard newline character each time a line is wrapped. Newline characters are treated by JavaScript as indicating the end of a statement, so this style of wrapping can break JavaScript on your page if you're not careful.
    To enable hard wrapping with text indentation, open Preferences (Edit menu on Windows, Dreamweaver menu on a Mac), and select the Code Format category. Select the Automatic wrapping checkbox and set the column (character) at which you want the line to be wrapped.
    The Dreamweaver default is to use soft wrapping, which is controlled by View > Code View Options > Word Wrap. This option toggles soft wrapping on and off. A soft wrap automatically wraps code when it reaches the right edge of Code view, but without inserting a newline character.

  • Why does anchoring break word wrap?

    I have a 200+ page typical book--one big column per page (two facing pages), and about 30 images/illustrations scattered throughout the book (at most one image per page). Most of the images are, say, half the column wide, and I want the text to flow around them. So I place the image in a reasonable spot and select Word Wrap | Wrap Around Bounding Box. Looks great so far. Then I anchor it--and the first line of text flows UNDER the image frame. Release the anchor and it word wraps correctly. When it's anchored I've tried both Wrap Around Bounding Box and Wrap Around Object, and various other word wrap options--the first line of text still wraps under the image frame. But all is well once I release the anchor. I'm a newbie--what am I missing?

    It seems to not-work-as-expected if I place the anchor in text that is being word wrapped--that is, anywhere horizontal to the image. If I place the anchor in text above the image, that isn't being wrapped, it appears to work as expected. Sadly, this would suggest that if I want to place an image next to the paragraph that references it, and place the anchor inside the paragraph that references the image, that word wrapping won't work.

  • Webforms - Wrap Text/Word Wrap for Column Headings

    I have some member aliases that are set as my webform's column headings, but they are fairly long. Setting the column width to a custom value that fits most of the text in the heading makes the form very wide and ugly to work with. I don't see any option to Wrap Text or use Word Wrap in the column headings. Is there any way to do this?
    Thanks!

    Hi,
    I am not aware of any option which allows you to wrap the text, it may be possible customizing the [CSS |http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E10530_01/doc/epm.931/html_hp_admin/ch12s03.html] though to be honest I am not even sure about that and even if it was possible it would apply to all apps.

  • [Solved]Conky and word wrapping - Is there a way?

    So I have a very limited area to work with, something like 176x360 (+/- a few pixels), and I want the ability to show an RSS feed. Well, the feed works of course, but due to the limited width, I'm in great need of word wrapping, and for that problem I have found no solution and going on for 2-3 hours straight, my head hurts

    Okay, so I've found sort of a solution to part of the problem, so what I have so far look like this:
    wget -quiet -O - archlinux.org/feeds/news/ | fmt -w 25 -g 25
    It works as long as there are no words longer than 25 character, which I should think is rare, even including package names and such.
    However there's still the issue parsing the xml so I get only what I want:
    <item><title>$content</title><link>
    This may be solved using some sort of terminal rss parser, but I would rather prefer not to.
    Then there's the issue with reloading.
    My current conky is set to reload every second, but of course one can't just pull the feed every second and I'm not convinced that conky has any built in solution for that problem. Of course I can always start a cronjob and save it all to a file, but portability would be nice.
    anyway, I'll return later.

  • Prob with fixed column widths and word wrapping in viewer

    i have a report where each record has a very long paragraph of text in it.
    In desktop and plus, the text column is at a fixed width and the text just wraps nicely according to the column width.
    But in Viewer, the column widths do not stay fixed, the text does not wrap, and the long text is displayed in a single line that completely stretches the column width off the page and requires a horizontal scroll bar.
    is there anyway to fix the column width in viewer, have the text naturally wrap, and prevent the column stretching. All word wrapping settings are on, but seem to have no effect. I can't seem to find any solution to this.
    Thanks...

    Hi Pritam,
    Per my understanding that you can't see the vertical scrollbar of the ReportViewer controls 2012 to scroll for the grid rows, but can see the vertical scrollbar of the web application, you also can't fix the headers while scrolling, right?
    I have tested on my local environment and can't reproduce your issue, but you have an alternative way to add some css  to the web form's source code to display the vertical scrollbar.
    Details information below for your reference:
    Please check below properties setting of the reportviewer which control the visibility of the scrollbar:
    AsyncRendering="true"
    SizeToReportContent="false"
    Please check if this problem also occur on other version of IE and other type of browser.
    Please check if you have done correct setting of the Fix data to freeze the table header as the step of below:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb934257(v=sql.100).aspx
    If step1 doesn't work, please click the source of webform.aspx and add below CSS to add the vertical scrollbar manually:
    #ReportViewer1 {
              overflow-y: scroll;
    Run the application you will see it display as below:

  • Word Wrap in JTextPane

    I'm working with just a JTextPane, no JScrollPane around it or anything.
    I would like the JTextPane to use word wrap, but it looks like by default it does not. I looked through some API stuff and tutorials and found nothing on the subject.
    The code is trivial and pointless to post right now. All I dd was make a JTextPane via new JTextPane() (no arguments or anything) and type in it enough to see if it word wrapped and it didn't.
    Is there a way to enable word wrap on JTextPanes?

    no JScrollPane around it or anything.The scroll pane forces the wrapping because it enforces the width limit. Otherwise there is no limit.
    You can use setPreferredSize(...) to force the width, but then that also restricts the height.
    Reply 6 of this posting may give you some ideas.

  • Word wrapping incorrect inside JTextPane on MAC 0.5/10.4 and Linux OS

    Hello java-dev team,
    In my application, I am using JTextPane as a text editor to create RTF text. The problem I observed with the JTextPane on MAC OS and Linux OS flavors (I tested on Ubuntu 8.04) is: whenever I am changing any of the text property (font color, font name, font style like bold, italic or underline) and then enter the characters without providing space, the whole word gets wrapped to the next line from the point where exactly the property change starts i.e. the new formatted text is jumped to the next line from the starting point of formatting.
    My requirement is, as I am not adding any space character while changing the property, the characters should be entered in the sequence and should come to new line as per normal word-wrap rule.
    Can anybody help me out in this regards with some solution as it’s a very urgent requirement?
    Below I am also providing the sample code to check the behavior. There is no dynamic facility to change the property in the below code but I am providing the text with multiple formatting settings through code itself. To reproduce the above issue, just type the characters using keyboard in between characters with changed text properties and you can see the whole word jumping to new line.

  • JTextArea word wrapping

    I know I can use a method to word wrap a JTextArea, but is there any simple way so that word wrapping does not cut words in half in order to fit?
    In other words, the current word wrapping will break a word at any position once the max line length has been met, so a word like "extension" may be broken up into "exte" and "nsion" on the next line.

    Straight from the API:
    setWrapStyleWord(...);

  • Terminal word wrap gone?

    One of my favorite features in tiger's terminal was the ability to turn OFF the word wrap. It was under Terminal->Window Settings...->Buffer->Wrap lines that are too long. I could uncheck that box and it would be helpful in viewing logfiles scrolling by (using tail -f). I think I'm insane because I cannot find this most basic feature in Leopard's terminal. I've experimented with some of the default settings like, Autowrap, Backwrap, and RewrapOnResize and changing these seems to have no effect. Can anyone tell me if this feature is gone forever? I really would like to know how to turn off word wrap in leopard terminal.

    AFAICT, it's automatic. BTW, you'll most likely get a more cogent answer posting to the Unix forum under OS X Technologies where the Unix and Terminal mavens congregate.

  • Textflow and flowComposer word wrap

    Hi
    I have a word wrap question re...
    I have a textflow that I'm splitting into multiple sprites (pages). I also have a columnCount of 2, so the text fits into two columns, and then continues onto the next page.
    Here's an example of the text...
    testString+='<p ALIGN="LEFT">Description</p><textformat blockindent=10>Product details with decent length that that overruns the column line '+i+'</textformat>';
    ... and I've concatenated it 500 times so I have a decent length test string to put into the textFlow.
    Which comes out like (imagine 3 lines per page)...
    Description                                                                                                Description
      Product details with decent length that that overruns the column line 1            Product details with decent length that that overruns the column line 4
    Description                                                                                                Description
      Product details with decent length that that overruns the column line 2            Product details with decent length that that overruns the column line 5
    Description                                                                                                Description
      Product details with decent length that that overruns the column line 3            Product details with decent length that that overruns the column line 6
    (page break)
    Description                                                                                                Description
      Product details with decent length that that overruns the column line 7            Product details with decent length that that overruns the column line 10
    Description                                                                                                Description
      Product details with decent length that that overruns the column line 8            Product details with decent length that that overruns the column line 11
    Description                                                                                                Description
      Product details with decent length that that overruns the column line 9            Product details with decent length that that overruns the column line 12
    (etc for about 10 pages until we get to the 500th pair)
    It works nicely, however, I'm wondering how you set it up to NOT word wrap on 'Product details with decent length that that overruns the column line 1' - so in other words, cut that line of if it hits the column edge?
    I tried LineBreak.EXPLICIT, but that only allows one page to be created, and no word wrapping occurred.
    Or is there a way to set it up within an html tag?
    Thank you.

    The "Name" text bounding box that I've created is set to a specific height/width (and needs to stay that way) with a font size of 94.22 pt; however, some of the names are REALLY long and are too big for the bounding box.  They word-wrap.  When I run the "data merge," I need Photoshop to automatically resize the text in the bounding box so that it doesn't word wrap.
    That is not possible its a contradiction resized text would not be font size 94.22.  Data driven graphics as far as I know does not have any text re-sizing feature.  Your template needs to be sized to support the longest text possible.   Text length need to be limited to fit within the space provided in the template psd file.
    It may be possible to write a Photoshop script to resize text layers to fit within some bounds. However is not possible to explain to you thoroughly in simple terms that would enable you to write the script. You most likely know the logic needed to do the resize and really don't need it explained to you.   What you lack is Photoshop scripting knowledge.  You have no script programming skills.  Learning a supported scripting language takes time and of top that you need to learn Adobe Document Object Model and it limitations and about Adobe's Scriptlistener Plug-in that records Action Manager scripting code. Developing Photoshop scripts is not an easy user feature like Adobe Actions Palette recorder/editor. Scripts need to be designed and programmed and debugged.
    Scripts are easy to use like actions and are more powerful then actions. You most likely have use some that are shipped with Photoshop,  Image Processor, Fit Image, Photomerge, lens correction  etc. Find your Photoshop version version Presets\Scripts folder and open any of the  .jsx file in the folder in a text editor see if you can understand somewhat what is written.  If you can you may want to learn scripting Photoshop.  Most Photoshop users never write a Photoshop script.
