Setup a 15 Minute Screen Saver Start Time?

How do I set my screen saver to activate after 15 minutes?
My options in the CP are Never, 1 minute, 2, 5, 10, 20, 30, or 1 hour. I don't want any of those choices, I want it to start after 15 minutes. That number works best with the sleep settings in my energy saver plan.
Not sure when this CP option changed, maybe it was with Mavericks, but it's odd that I can't select the exact time I want my screen saver to kick in.

The screensaver running time is capped by the time you set the display to sleep. On my machine, the screensave kicks in after 5 minutes of idle use and the display sleeps after 10 minutes.

  • Screen saver start time greyed out

In Mavericks, The Screen saver start time menu is Greyed out at "20 minutes".  How do I activate this drop-down menu?.  Thanks

There is no lock icon on the window. I went into another preferences setting (Users) and unlocked the lock there, then went back to screensaver/display, and the "20 minutes" button is still greyed out.  thanks.

Has Apple recently up-dated my OS (Lion) such that every time the screen saver starts it disables Time Machine.  I have to switch-off the computer and re-start in order to undertake  a back-up.  I have now switched of all screen savers.

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of this exercise is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login. Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Be sure your Mac is shut down.
    Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem(s)?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode.)

  • Custom screen saver idle time

Is there a way to set a custom screen saver idle time? Through terminal? I tried "defaults -currentHost write com.apple.screensaver idleTime 160" for 3 minutes but that makes it go to 20 when I view it in preferences... lol, wow. This is hilarious. It's too much to have a slider or let the user enter any number? Too much for Apple, I know. It's tough. 100 billion dollar company. Can't even adjust the mouse acceleration either. Apple is Christ reincarnate.

    i got it to work
I was runing it as root and you have to run it as Current console user on target computer in order for it to work.
just in case someone else ever needs it.

  • Screen Saver starts while playing DVD in Front Row (Tiger)

Just recently, Screen Saver starts while playing a DVD in Front Row. This never used to happen and I suspect it's due to some software update. I know that Leopard users now have Settings within Front Row to disable the Screen Saver...but why is this just now happening in Tiger? Playing a DVD in Front Row used to override whatever Screen Saver settings there were.
Part of the convenience of using Front Row is now lost for me. I don't want to have to adjust my Energy Saver settings each and every time I want to use Front Row to play a DVD. And I'm not ready to upgrade to Leopard yet.
Any solutions? Any way Tiger users can adjust settings in Front Row?

Not sure if this works on Tiger, but this may be the solution you are looking for

  • Screen saver starting even when disabled

Just today, my screen saver started to kick in after about 10 minutes of inactivity. The problem is, I've disabled the screen saver by setting it to "never." I've also set all of the energy saver prefs to "never."
Before today, the screen saver never started. What could be causing this? A corrupt prefs file?

The only thing I can think of is to make sure you don't have hot corners set in the screensaver preferences pane. If the screen saver just turns on randomly no matter where the mouse is, then that is really strange.

  • Screen saver starts up while Safari is streaming

That's it really . . I'll be watching NetFlix or any other streaming video, and the screen saver starts up right on time as if I'd been completely inactive.
What am I missing here ?

    Hi,
Open System Preferences / Desktop & Screen Saver then select the Screen Saver tab.
Where you see: Start screen saver
Adjust the slider so the screen saver doesn't activate so soon.
If that doesn't help, open a Finder window. Select your Home folder in the Sidebar on the left now open the Library folder then the Preferences folder.
Move the com.apple.screensaver.plist file from the Preferences folder to the Trash.
Restart your Mac. See if that makes a difference.

    Hi boadiceaa,
Is the machine in a domain environment ?How did you configure the screensaver ?
Usually we can configure it here .
Right click the blank desktop ,choose personalize ,screensaver.
There is a registry key we can configure the timeout of the screensaver .
     HKCU\Control Panel\Desktop\ScreenSaveTimeout
If it is a domain environment ,please check whether the screensaver group policy has been configured.
We can run "rsop " to have a check .
We also can try to configure it from the group policy
    Screen Saver timeout
    https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc961876.aspx?f=255&MSPPError=-2147217396
If the issue persists, we can try to login with another account and configure it to have a check .This will help us to narrow down whether this issue is caused by the specific account .
    Best regards
im not exactly sure what you mean by domain but its for my home network, just simple SOHO. ive tried using another user account to change it but it doesnt matter what it only goes to 15 mins max time.
youd suggest i look into the registry for starters or?
    thanks again for the reply

  • Computer crashes when screen saver starts

Hello. This issue just started when I installed Snow leopard.
I have my screen saver set to start at 15 mins and to use my photos in iphoto as the images. (same as it was on all previous versions of OS X)
Now, after 15 mins, when the screen saver is to begin, i see a black screen, and sometime I can't recover without restarting. I've not changed any settings, simply installed Snow leopard.
    any help would be great
    thanks!

    Niko:
Try locating and deleting these two preference/plist files:
    ~(yourUserName)/Library/Preferences/com.apple.desktop.plist
    ~(yourUserName)/Library/Preferences/com.apple.preference.desktopscreeneffect.pli st
As well, did you update via Software Update or did you download the combo? If you used Software Update, get the Combo updater instead and re-apply:

Also please, update your profile to reflect whatever computer you're using SL with, thanks.

  • Staticky music when screen saver starts-speakers also stop working

I recently downloaded itunes 7 and have noticed that when my screen saver comes on, my music gets staticky. My speakers randomly cut out too, usually one at a time. Anyone else notice this problem? I never had problems with old versions, help!
      Windows XP

    1) Update your sound card/driver from the PC makers site
    2) In Windows goto Control panel>Quicktime>Audio tab and check "Safemode" Hit OK then reboot the PC
    3) If that doesn't work, try the steps here http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93610

  • Why does my Mac Pro now crash when screen saver starts?

I've upgraded my Mac Pro Mid 2010 (5,1) from 10.8.5 to 10.9.3 and I have a problem.  When I use one of the screen savers without a photo, the screen saver works fine.  But when I try to point it to one of my existing photos on the machine, it hangs when the screen saver kicks in and I have to force quit to get it running again.
I believe this must have to do with some permissions issues with where my image files are, but am not sure how to fix it.
    Anybody else have this problem?
    Thanks....

But does it then come fully awake? My MB Pro comes on with out of focus screen as if in a fog but once it comes awake it clears up, there is a progress bar at the bottom showing the progress from sleep

  • DVR - 2 shows recording at same time have a 1 minute difference between start times

When recording 2 shows at the same time, with exactly the same start and end times, one will start ~30 seconds early, and the other will start ~30 seconds late. Why would this happen?
I keep missing the beginning of some shows, and the end of others.
    Background
    Cisco 435HDC
None of my recordings have a modified start or end time, everything is set to "on time"
This happens whether a show is being recorded prior to the 2 or not
I have already done all of the basic troubleshooting, which is to say, I've confirmed this problem on numerous occasions, in different situations, at different times, series or non-series, etc.
Also, is there a way to refresh the time on the DVR? To get it to pull from the time server, whatever that may be? My clock drifts, causing me to miss either more of the beginning of a show, or more of the end.
    Thanks for your help!

Your physical setup seems fine, the articles you read are correct about turning off DHCP on the Dlink. I would do the following:
    A. You didn't mention it but you need to have the dlink wired from Westell Port 1,2,3, or 4, to DLINK Port 1,2,3,or 4 (not the wan ports on either router) if you haven't already.
    B. Turn off DHCP on the DLINK and set the gateway IP on it to something different than 192.168.1.1 of the Westell ( I think you may have been getting out of range error from trying to set a static wan ip on the dlink ( just a guess based on info available).
I have a similar setup at home with an Actiontec and a Linksys WRT-54G. I have mine setup this way. Since everything is on the LAN side of the routers you shouldn't run into any more trouble with your work group/ windows network.
I found the emulator for the 825, it should look something like this when you are done:
    Hope this is helpful.

  • Firefox screen saver starts to load, but fails and will not close. To get my computer back I have to do a "control/alt/delete. Why?

I do not know which version I am using - I am truly computer illiterate. You will need to tell me what information you need, and how to find it. Sorry.
At about the same time as this developed, I lost the ability to continually see the tool bars at the top and bottom of the screen- as if the page was too big for my screen. Don't know if they are connected problems.

Try ( alt + cmd + esc ).  Gives you a menu of running applications, and a chance to "Force Quit".
