Setup Admin Password and Cluster is No Longer Editable

Hello,
We've been in the process of configuring a Qmaster farm with ~40 machines and a controller. Up until last night it was working fine.
To close out the project we defined Administrative and User passwords for the farm. After doing so the farm is now un-editable and cannot be deleted. Anything we do to try and change settings (after unlocking in Qadministrator) gives us the error: "The farm is being edited by another user or is unavailable". We've tried various things like rebooting, rebooting without network, shutting down the farm machines. Nothing we do now can get rid of this error and it's a problem because we cannot unbind the farm machines in order to simply create a different farm with similar settings.
We've also tried looking at config files, but there is one that specifically deals with the farm configurations, but it is fully encrypted.
Any advice on what to do will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Keith

And the plot thickens . . .
I have discovered on certain machines we have
Not sure how this has happened.

My husband and I are divorcing and we have used his apple ID for our 2 apple tv's.  He changed his password and now I no longer have access to the 300 or more movies, tv shows and music.   He keeps telling me that , there is no way for us both to have it. So, since his Apple ID was the one programmed into our Apple TV's he has custody to everything.  I know there has to be a solution for this, because I can't be the be the only person this has ever happened too!

    Unfortunately the situation is thus...

  • I recently inherited a power mac from my dad how do i change admin passwords and such so I can use it

I recently inherited a power mac from my dad how do i change admin passwords and such so I can use it?

And if you can't log into the machine at all, you'll need:
Mac OS X: Changing or resetting an account password.
You'll need a system recovery or Mac OS X install disc. Don't drop your Dad's user account, though. If he's got any serialized software, it may not function for all users on the machine, and you may need to go back to his account.

  • I lost my admin password and disks what can i do

I lost my admin password and start up disk for Leopard what can I do

You can call Apple and give them your serial number and they will send you replacement disks for a nominal charge - that is if they still have them since Leopard is a rather old OS.

installing microsoft office for mac and getting prompt for installer password.  i have put in apple id password and admin password and not working, i have also reset my admin password 3 times and it is still not working? how do i get past this?

You don't use your Apple ID or its password to install anything on your Mac. You use the admin account's name and password.
Use the name and password you last entered when resetting them. The "name" you use is not the short name of the admin account folder.
For example. If you create an admin account of John Smith, the short name given to that account's folder will be johnsmith. So when an app requests an admin name and password to install something, the admin name you enter is John Smith, not johnsmith.

  • HT1752 I have forgotten my admin password and need to create another user

I have forgotten my admin password and need to create another user. Have no disks to boot from!!

You need an installer disc in order to reset an admin password. I don't know if the following will work on your system, but give it a try:
You can also reset the password by printing out (or writing down) and carefully following these steps.
First, find the short name of the admin user on the machine. The easiest way of doing this is by looking at what their directory is called in the Users folder.
Now, start up the computer while holding down Cmd-S. It should boot into a command line. (If it doesn't, you may need to reset the firmware password, which is detailed elsewhere.)
    Type these exact lines:
    mount -uw /
    ifconfig lo0 up
    cd /var/db/netinfo
    netinfod -s local
Now you'll need that short name. (You did write it down, didn't you?) Type "passwd", a space, and the short name of the admin. For example, if the admin was - rather prosaically - called "admin", you'd type "passwd admin".
The computer will now prompt you to change the password for "admin" (or whatever the short name was). Go ahead and type a new password.
    Now, type:
    sync
    reboot
and the machine will reboot. The admin password should now be changed.

  • Unable to install "Mavericks" as it asks for my 'Admin Password" and it does not work. Have not used it since I got my iMac in 2008. First upgrade to do so. Any solutions please?

I have a 2008 iMac which had Leopard initially and I have upgraded to each new OS without a hitch. I downloaded "Mavericks" and began the install, it asked me for my "Admin Password" which I have never ever used since I set the Mac up, I have it safely tucked away so entered it, it rejected it each time. Am sort of lost now, as if my "Admin P/W" does not work here can I go from here?
I have seen many others with this problem but so far most of the solutions seem to be for the "log in" or "User" password not the Admin one.
I am running Mountain Lion successfully.
I have my original disks as supplied and also a Snow Leopard install disk.
I have seen some info about fixing this via Lion Recovery partition which I must have due to using Mt Lion.
How can I repair this situation.
Thank you to all those who respond.

    Thanks for your reply.
I have visited both the sites you listed but it seems to me that the solutions mentioned are to fix the User or log in p/w's.They do not seem to refer to the admin one again.
I understand about it being just like other user accts but the fixes do not really refer to it only the above two.
I have no problem booting up my Mac, I do not use a log in p/w so my problem is with the Admin p/w that was set up back in 2008. This is what I need to reset etc.
I am quite confused over these pw's as to just what is what and I need to make sure I understand all before I get into deeper trouble following these links.
This Admin p/w that was set up has never been used and is the only p/w I have except for my Apple ID. All previous upgrades only required my user name log in which has no p/w set up.
I hope you can follow me here butI have read so much on this it is becoming very confusing about whcih p/w's are what.

  • I dont know the admin password and i dont have a disc how do i bypass this

i need to access admin privlages but i dont have the password and i didnt recive the disc it came with how do i bypass this so i can become a admin?

It is best to get a disk. Ring an Apple store and they may be able to provide a replacement for your original disk.
The other benefit of owning a disk is it can be used to repair your hard drive.
Without a disk it is like driving a car without a spare. Most of the time you don't need it except for the time when you do, and then you are stranded.

  • Forgot password and email is no longer valid

Hi I'm in a vicious cycle here.  Just got a new phone and I can't activate skype on it (I use it all the time on my PC) because I can't remember my password and the email address on my account is no longer valid (old work email and I don't work there anymore).  All the FAQs and help solutions seem to require a valid email for password reset.  Live help does not seem to be working.  I asked for an response to me new email a week ago but customer support has not responded.  I'm in my account all the time on my PC but of course it won't let me change the password with out puttiung in the old one or it insists on sending a link to the invalid email address that I can't change without knowing my password.  Any ideas?

Call Apple Corp, they have a dedicated department for Account Security etc..

  • I am trying to reinstall an admin password and got completely locked out. I can't get past the first log in

I am trying to reset my admin password.  I think my computer was tampered with. I signed out completely and now, I am locked out.  I can't get past a black screen. I'm unsure of my operating system but I've had laptop about 2 years.

If you boot from your install DVD and, after choosing language, go up to the Apple bar and select utilities, you can restore you admin and firmware psswds. You will these options there. Do not choose a firmware psswd if you do not need this, you may complicate your life, especially if you forget it.
I do not understand how you changed the psswd and why you cannot log in, though. Did you forget the new psswd or why? What do you mean by ‘was tampered with’?

  • Forgotten Admin Password AND Other password

Hi, I have just purchased a new iMac but now, having had a long time away from it, attempted to start my old iMac but have forgotten the admin password! I remember the figures but not the text even with a reminder! Is there anyway I can open my old iMac as i need data from it & will want to sync it with new one to take data from it?  Am I an idiot or what?

Not sure what the 'Other' password is you mention, but you can reset the Admin password as noted in this User tip (following the instructions under On Recovery):
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-4101
To start in Recovery Mode restart holding down Command + r

  • Forgot itunes password and email address no longer valid

I'm trying up download apps on my iPad and I have 3 problems:-
    1.  the default email address on iTunes no longer exists (was my husbands old email)
    2.  I don't know the password
    3.  When I select security questions and put in my birth details it says they aren't valid either
    Any suggestions please?
I have another apple ID but It always defaults to the one that isn't valid, is there a way of changing the default ID to my own?
    Thanks

Is it not the case that if you reset to factory settings then you won't be able to retrieve the apps you've already paid for which are assigned to the old password
I have this exact same problem
