Sony, once the most trusted name in Electronics has certainly dropped to the bottom of the list. I can't get my TV to work properly and the call center in the Phillipines is useless. They don't speak English and don't dare try to get them off script. Everyone that I have contacted has tried to steer me th the call center again. No Thanks! It looks like my option is to call the Geek Squad and pay them $150 to make a house call and set this thing up. Now after paying $799.99 plus tax why should I have to pay a third party to do Sony's job?Don't buy Sony!!!!!!!!!!!!

The suggested workaround solved my problem for now.

  • Macbook Pro connection to Sony Bravia LCD Color TV

I have a macbook pro and I'm trying to connect it a Sony Bravia LCD Color Television. The macbook detects the sony tv and brings up a dialogue box about it. However, on the tv it says no signal. Anyone have any suggestions as to why this is happening?

I had the same problem with a 1080i Bravia Sony and a MacBook Pro connected with a DVI-HDMI lead - it turned out to be a very simple solution - you have to make sure you are looking at the right AV channel on the TV. The mapping of AV1-6 to the ports on the back is not obvious at all (in this case it was AV4 that was the correct AV port). The Bravia also has the option to skip AV channels if desired - so if in the preferences you have disabled ports then you need to make them available to skip through.
The picture is very sharp indeed with a DVI-HDMI lead - far far superior to a vanilla SVGA cable. Sound is automatically selected from an analogue input (2xphono) on one of the HDMI ports so make sure you select the right one on the back.
(p.s. just to emphasize - the DVI-HDMI does not map to the 'PC' port it is another AV channel)

    Hi,
Can I use Apple's VGA Adapter to connect my MacBook Pro (Mac OS X 10.5.8) to Sony BRAVIA KDL32EX308. Is it compatiable? If not, which adapter I should buy?
    Thank you in advance.

  • Apple TV not working with Sony Bravia KDL-32BX320

Not sure if this is because the Sony model is only labelled 'HD ready'- would I have to get a new TV? Anyway, connected Apple TV via HDMI cable and going into TV setup the Sony TV says there are no devices connected. The TV has two HDMI ports

you could likely connect it to another tv and lowers the default resolution

Hi! I got a new Bravia Sony Smart TV, I can connect to the app, but when I try to place calls, or recieve calls, skype tells me that calls are not possible at this time.
I updated skype, the TV software, tried everything and still no luck.
    Any possible solution?

Hello DanEvans442! I'm terribly sorry over any issues you've had with your Turbo. You and I have the same model. I love mine! One of the best devices have had in 10 years. I want that to be the same for you!  You've mentioned that you've had issues after deboarding the plane. One of the things you'll want to be sure of is that the device isn't inadvertently in Airplane Mode. Please go to Settings> Airplane Mode. If it is set to "On", please turn it off and try your device again.  If it was already set to off, then we can move to other possible contributors. Can you describe what happens when you try to use the service?   DionM_VZW Follow us on Twitter www.twitter.com/vzwsupport

What I don't understand is how to use this information. The /devices.... do not exist.
On this laptop I also have an S1 and AV MODE key and volume keys.
The volume keys work out of the box. The S1 key prints out:
    sony-laptop: sony_nc_notify, event: 0x20
    sony-laptop: sony_nc_notify, event: 0x38
and the AV MODE key prints:

    sony-laptop: sony_nc_notify, event:

The media keys print nothing ....
    Any ideas?

The media keys don't have acpi events, they are regular xf86-media keys that you can assign normally like on any multimedia keyboard. You only need the standard sony-laptop module enabled (which you already have), the Z-version won't help as it only contains extra information for z-specific hardware like dual-graphics and hsdpa module etc.

  • Please put my mind at ease - pixelation normal on my setup?

    Here's what I've got setup:
    - 52" Sony xbr9 lcd hdtv (about a month old)
    - TiVo HD dvr (about 3 weeks old)
    - verizon fios HD service
    - all connected via hdmi from monoprice
so I can't help but notice pixelation when there's a fast moving scene like a quick panning of the camera. I especially notice it when there's quick contrast in light like in an explosion. Slower moving movies look gorgeous - sweeny Todd for example looked awesome. I tried watching speed racer the other night. With all the quick movement it looked terrible. I've read that it could be more a product of the signal from verizon. The compression causes it? I just want to be sure that that's the reason and not anything else. Thanks in advance for any replies.
p.s. could it be the attenuator that was installed?

Time Warner and Viacom deliver their premium movie channels (HBO, Cinemax, Showtime, etc) with relatively high levels of compression, so you will see compression artifacts on those channels during scenes with lots of movement.  When recording from premium channels, you may want to use the main east and west feeds when possible, as those tend to offer better picture quality.
Channels like ESPN, TNT, and Hdnet use less compression on their channels, hence they exhibit fewer compression artifacts.
On the TiVo, there's a relatively simple way to confirm whether the pixelization is part of the original picture signal.  While tuned to the channel, open the Messages & Settings -> System Information -> DVR Diagnostics screen.  If you see millions or billions of RS Uncorrected errors, then the source of the problem is signal related.  If you don't see RS Uncorrected errors incrementing by the millions, then you are seeing the picture as it is sent.
Note some TVs and certain settings on some TVs can make compression artifacts more obvious.  If you have not done so already, you might try these settings for the 52XBR9 used by Cnet in their evaluation.  You might also bookmark the AVS XBR9 thread.

  • Universal cable remote with Mini

I am using a Mini as a media server for my home theatre setup. I would like to get rid of the Apple remote so I only have to use one remote device. I have been able to program my Cox cable universal remote to control all devices (SONY Bravia, Sony receiver, Moto cable box) using the 4-digit codes that came with the remote. Has anyone been able to control the Mini with such a remote? If so, what is the code?

    Comcast support is terrible.
Their Mac tech support is very good in my experiences with them.
You are asking questions about a 3rd party product. You need to direct your questions to Comcast. Comcast Mac forums are sort of like these forums. If you cannot find your answers on their Mac forums then you will have no alternative but to call Comcast mac tech support. Ask to bumped up to tier 2 or 3 which is Mac support.

  • Bdve300 htib to tv and cable box

could someone please help me setup my sony bdve300 home theater, to my sony bravia kdl46z4100 ,and my comcast hd box motorola dch3200. thanks in advance kr.

I don't know what kind of experience your looking for but I would hook the HDMI directly to the TV on all of the Components and use a Digital Optical cable for sound to the receiver.  But Certain HTIB do not allow you to do this as they do not have enough inputs.  So you may not have a choice but to use HDMi which means your receiver will have to be on for everything.     For example just to watch the News you would have to have the receiver on. I personally find that to be an inconvience but so others they don't mind.

  • Help me before I turn to Adobe Premiere Pro and PC!

I am desperately trying to import HVD footage from a Sony HVR-A1 in OfflineRT mode. I have a pretty slow Mac which does not allow me to work with native HDV or Apple intermediate codec and I WILL HAVE TO turn to PC if I do not find a quick solution… Argh…
I have tried the following :
    1. OfflineRT HD esay setup specifying HDV as Capture setup and Sony HDV 1081i50 Firewire.
    - It has worked once and not more after that
    - The sequence is in JPG compressed mode but clips are all captured in full HDV, which makes it impossible to edit in RT… I have no idea of what is going on…
    2. Offline RT (DV)
    - Using i-link downconvert mode to capture in OfflineRT mode
    - Everything seems OK until I finally try to batch capture in HDV. I then systematically get error messages and only a small part of the clips are captured.
    3. HDV capture and transfer to OfflineRT HD via Media Manager (recompress)
    - Everything works fine (capture, recompress and batch capture).
    - BUT: it seems that recompress with OfflineRT HD suppose that the original is letterbox so that when the original (as mine) is 16:9, the compressed output is strongly distorted.
    - I tried to use custom recompress procedures but they all seem to produce outputs which cannot be edited in RT…
It has been two weeks now and I did not start editing yet… What should I do? Turn to PC and Adobe Premiere Pro 2.0?

    Welcome to the forum Jean-Claude.
If you will provide your system specs, I'll bet that
someone here will get you running smoothly and
    happily.
    Sorry for that...
    My spec are:
    FCP5
    Mac OSX
2 HD (one external via firewire)
G4 on PowerBook with 512M RAM
I am capturing directly via Firewire from a Sony HVR-A1 PAL
My main concern however is that my problem does not seem to come from hardware spec since I have no real problem in capturing in native HDV (although my computer is too slow to edit in native HDV or in Apple intermediate Codec). It seemed to me that OfflineRT HD was just the way it should work for me (I can find a proper computer to fine-tune the final work) but I have found nowhere successful reports of using this option...
EDIT, just came across your other post... "Offline
editing with FCP5 OfflineRT HD"...should try to keep
only one thread active... keeps everyone from getting
    confused...
Sorry for that too... I am going to close the other one right now...

  • No image with component cable through receiver?

I have just purchased an Apple TV device, since my HDMI Input in my projector is not working everything is not plugged in my receiver with component cable. here is a list of what my audio/video setup is :
    - Sony PS3 (Plugged in Receiver in Component (Video) Optical (Audio)
    - HD-DVD Toshiba (Plugged in Receiver in Component (Video) Optical (Audio)
    - Bell ExpressVu HD/PVR Receiver (Plugged in Receiver in Component (Video) Optical (Audio)
    - Denon AVR-5805 (Out to Projector in Component)
    - Hitachi HD-PJ52
the problem is that i'm not getting any signal from my apple tv when I selected it with my receiver, not much of a mac guy, so not sure where to start....is there an on/off switch on this thing...
    thank you

sorry everything is NOW plugged in my receiver with component cable

  • Sequence settings to 1920x1080

I am using a Sony XDCAM-EX1 camera Full HD camera and am shooting in full 1920x1080p30 format instead of the normal HDV 1440x1080 format.
But in FCP6, in Sequence setting, when choosing the Frame Size or Pixel Aspect ratio, I am not given the choice of 1920x1080 but the highest shown is 1440x1080.
In this case I feel that I am loosing the quality of the HQ 1920x1080 picture that is generated from the EX1.
However, I see that I can make a custom setting. If I determine on a custom basis 1920x1080 in picture size menu, will it be OK? And what precautions should I take when I want to export the sequence for working into DVD Pro and burn a blue ray disk with the highest picture quality?

Sorry Shane but it does not work that way.
I did expactly what you said:
1- In Easy Setup, Format = Sony XDCAM HD
    2- Use = XDCAM HD 1080p30VBR
    3- Rate 29.97 fps
Then I create a new sequence and go tos equence settings and I have:
    Frame size = 1440x1080 (HD(1440x1080) (16:9)
Pixel Aspect Ratio = HD (1440x1080)
    Editing Timebase = 29.97
    Compressor = XDCAM HD 1080p (35 Mbs)
So I dont have what you said: 1920x1080 picture size.
What else have I missed ???
But when I import a clip which is 1920x1080 (full HD 1080p30HQ from the EX1), it asks to change or not sequence settings to match the clip setting. I click on yes.
Then I have in Sequence settings:
Frame size = 1920x1080 (HDTV 1080i(16:9), like I said in my previous Post.
Therefore I reiterate my comment saying that FCP apparently works with interlaced but not progressive with 1920x1080. Can you confirm ? If not "educate" me (sorry about this term) on how to make it work with 1080p, or explain to me that it does not make any difference if it is 1080i or 1808p which I doubt would be the case.

  • Question about Cisco Tec support Rep Live chat issue .

Hello guys, I recently just tried to do a session of live tech support on cisco web site about a issue trying to get my router to change the speed of the wireless connection from 54mbps to the potiental maxium of 300mbps. Well This is my second time using the live chat feature and the 2nd time, the guy was asking for my router name and passowrd. I didnt feel to comformtable doing that since my first time using the live chat , the tech guy didnt ask for my operating system, or my passowrds or anything of that nature? Is that normal for a live chat guy to do that? I figured hes was trying to do a remoate access to my computer and I was thinking, they probably dont do that for free especially over a live chat. Anyeone thoughts or am i being over crictical. thanks

if you are not comfortable then dont give them the info.
i have not had a reason to ask then to do this, however back in the day i had a sony live rep (we were on the phone too) remote into my router to allow me to setup my sony base station (think slingbox but its made by sony) so i could get it to work when away form the home. this was a few years ago so it happens today. some businesses/stores even offer it as a solution. so dont freak out that they asked you that. dell does this for example...
give them a call and have them on the phone with you instead.just have them give you the directions on what to do.... if not, come here and ask the questions...

  • Bad Raid Driver Floppy?

    Hey everyone
So i followed Rsheppicks guide for multiple drive arrays and it seemed to work. I got to the point where i had to hit F6 and put in the nvidia raid driver floppy disk in. THen i hit S and it told me to put in the manufacturer supplied ardware support disk in. I put the floppy in and hit enter. However for some reason it wont read the floppy no matter how much i try. ive had this filoppy drive for about a year and it has always worked before. So i dont know whether the floppy drive/mobo combo is one of those unfortunate ones or perhaps the floppy is bad?....i dont know. BTW the floppy drive is that Sony MPF 920 or whatever

Is the avtivity light on the floppy on all the time?  If so, you hooked up your floppy drive backward... reverse the cable now.  I did the same thing on my setup, the Sony drive I have will allow you to hookup the cable either way.  If not, I also had a corrupt NVRaid floppy (took me awhile to figure out both were the problem), just download the correct installs from MSI's website here and make sure your floppy is connected properly... you should have no problems after that.  Hope this helps, peace.
