Setup.dmg files left open after installation of CC apps
After any upgrade of the CC apps, I find my Disk Utility filled with setup.dmg images that weren't closed after the installation process. I have to go through and close each one manually. Is there a fix to this problem? I'm currently running Mavericks, OSX 10.9.5, but have noticed this problem for a while.
I am seeing the same thing. I think Adobe has a bad habit of leaving DMG files open that they spawn during installation processes. I noticed I had two "decrypted file.dmg" files open due to Flash updates.
Any response from anyone at Adobe on this? I'm also assuming I can just eject these, but we'll see if my Adobe apps still work.

Some files in "DOCUMENTS" icon in dock won't open. Get msg saying "You need a newer version of Pages to open this document." Already have Pages 4.1 installed. You have 2 versions of Pages on your Mac.
Pages 5.2 is in your Applications folder.
Pages '09/'08 is in your Applications/iWork folder.
You are alternately opening the wrong versions.
Pages '09/'08 can not open Pages 5 files and you will get the warning that you need a newer version.
Pages 5.2 can open Pages '09 files but may damage/alter them. It can not open Pages '08 files at all.
Older versions of Pages 5 can not open files from later versions of Pages 5.
Once opened and saved in Pages 5 the Pages '09 files can not be opened in Pages '09.
Anything that is saved to iCloud and opened in a newer version of Pages is also converted to Pages 5 files.
All Pages files no matter what version and incompatibility have the same extension .pages.
Pages 5 files are now only compatible with themselves on a very restricted set of hardware, software and Operating Systems and will not transfer correctly on any other server software than iCloud.

Adobe Premiere Elements does not open after installation
Hello,
I have written before last week. I have bought Adobe Photoshop Elements 11 and Adobe Premiere Elements 11.
I had a trial version of Photoshop Elements 11 and with the code I could access the full version.
However Premiere Elements did not open after installation. I did not had a trial version so I first downloaded the full program. I went through the whole installation process and everything seemed ok, no error messages. But when I tried to open Adobe Premiere Elements after restarting the computer it did not open at all. Nothing happened.
I have de-installed and re-installed the program for a couple of times over and over again but with not result. Also tried to download the trial version first and also this didn't work. I checked my Quicktime and updated to the latest version.
I use a Windows laptop: Asus Intel Core i5-2430M, 2,4 GHz
I hope you can help me out!

You are on the 3.6 release and Firefox 7.0.1 is out. You can download and install the latest release from http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/new/ if you would like to update now. The 3.6 version will be maintained for a while longer, but you should update when you can. -
Digital Editions 4.0 will not open after installation on Windows XP laptop.
Digital Editions 4.0 will not open after installation on Windows XP laptop. DigitalEditions 3.0 installs and opens fine. Have tried 4.0 several times. Removed 3.0 and 4.0, reboot, reinstall 4.0 still will not open. Error message says Windows has experienced and problem and requires that Digital Editions must be shut down.
Solved my own problem. It was necessary to delete all instances of Adobe Digital Editions in programs and the registry. After doing so and reinstalling 4.02...., it became available in the "open with" dialogue box and became the default epub reader.

Cleaning files left from previous installation
do anyone know the best tool for cleaning files left from previous installation....which are uninstalled...
the more I help....the more I feel good...I can't tell if you are updating from Palm Desktop 4.x to 6.2 on the same machine, or trying to move the data from an old machine to the new one.
I'm sure you've noticed this already, but Palm Desktop 6.2.2 uses a different location for its user files than does PD 4.x.
Your User folder is located on this path (using Palm Desktop 4.x):
c > program files > palm (or palmone) > [your device folder]
In Palm Desktop 6.2.2 the Backup folder is here:
my documents > palm OS desktop > [your device folder]
If your data exists on another machine with the older version of Palm Desktop, I suggest trying to Export the data from your old Palm Desktop installation, and Importing the data on the new desktop.

DMG files not opening correctly in 10.8.2
I was downloading second life on my ir running 10.8.2, and after the dmg downloaded, and i clicked it, instead of the usual drag to app folder Finder window, I got a strange one with four folders in it and a shaded arrow, and nothing really to drag. Repeated this after reboots and two different dmg files (I have not tried anything other than second life. But read on.
I found a thread here where someone had a similar problem with other downloads. in their case, the finder window opened briefly and then closed, i believe. anyway they finally created a new admin user and downloaded and installed using that and it worked.
I tried that, and it also worked. Created new user, downloaded same files, clicked, and they came up with the usual drag to applications window.
Somehow ML has gotten confused on my main account. Ideas for what to do to clean it up? or should I just wait for 10.8.whatever?

Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions - Lion/Mountain Lion
Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported then click on the Repair Permissions button. When the process is completed, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu. -
DMG Files not opening on my G3/366 clamshell (running 0S X 10.4.11)
I have one final issue with my G3/366 clamshell (running 0S X 10.4.11), cant seem to add software. Download a dmg file, extracts to desktop but cant open extracted file. I've done a Disk repair on start up but that didnt help, anyone got any suggestions? Everything else appears fine.
True but I think that the disk image mounter is not working so I'm not getting the option to drag anything anywhere. How do I repair the disk image mounter?
Just tried after reading on a www forum;
Run /Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility.
Click on "Macintosh HD� in the left column and then press the "Repair Disk Permissions� button. I don't think this step was part of the solution to my problem.
Delete the file called /System/Library/Extension.kextcache
Delete the folder called /System/Library/Caches/com.apple.kernalcaches/
Restart
But the deleted files just re apear after start up and the issue continues.
There is no issue with the hard drive, also just booted to Disk Utility again and done a volume repair, no problems there. Grrrrrrrrrrr -
Force a dmg-file to open in iconview
hi. I have made a dmg-file with layout and backgroundimage that I want to open in iconview as a default. Unfortunately it prefers to open in columnview instead.
it works on my computer (sometimes) but not when anyone else use it on a different computer.

when this setting is activated the dmg doesn't open in the pre-defined iconview that you want it to.
but for example firefox installer-dmg manages to open directly in ikonview even if columnviewsettings is activated in finder, so there has to be a way around it.

Hey guys i have literaly just brought a new 15 inch mac book pro late 2013 and just in the process of downloading the things i need however every time i go to download skype when i open the dmg it keeps saying in a small grey box "The Following disk images couldn't be opened.. "Skype_6.18.0.493.dmg/Image data corrupted" I have tried everything tried using a different browser, change the gate keeper setting to allow downloads from anywhere, right clicking dmg file and click open but it just seems that for some reason my laptop will not let me open up this DMG can anyone please help me as i want to be able to skype my friends and family.
Drag it to the Trash and download the Skype installer again.

Windows handles left open after opening and closing registry key
When I open a registry key with 'Create Registry Key.vi' or 'Open Registry Key.vi' and thereafter close it with 'Close Registry Key.vi', there are 2 Windows handles left open. As my program polls the registry for changes repeatedly, my system crashes because after a certain time of use, no handles are available anymore.
I'm using Windows XP and Labview 8.6.
The VI in the attachment illustrates the problem (reading and writing of values are left out as these have no influence on the problem).
How can I read and write the registry, without leaving open handles?

thank you so much for your post on our webforum. I noticed that this is a known issue for Labview 8.6, a while ago it was reported with a Corrective Action Request (CAR# 132471). The issue should be resolved with Labview 2009. I wasn't able to reproduce the issue wit Labview 2010, the number of handles stayed arround 28000,

Logic Pro 9 documents not opening after installation of Lion (10.7)
Since I installed Lion (OSX 10.7), I'm having a problem opening my Logic Pro (9.1.4) files. Any file I open, I receive the following error message: "The Document (name XXXX) could not be opened".
I have to find another logic document or the original app. in the Application folder, higilight it and/or open it, then go back to the original file and open it.
Can someone tell me why this is happening???
