Setup.exe don't start (8.1.7)

Hello,
I have to install Oracle Server 8.1.7 (Release 3) under Win2000 Server. But I couldn't start the install.exe (setup.exe). Nothing happens.
But in readme documents it should be possible to install this version under Win2000 Server.
Could somebody help me. What do I need??
By the way, the CD is ok, they started normally under Win2000.
Thank you
Dana

Subject: ALERT: Oracle Installer 8.1.X Hangs on Machines with Pentium 4 Processors
Type: ALERT
Status: PUBLISHED
Content Type: TEXT/PLAIN
Creation Date: 02-JAN-2001
Last Revision Date: 01-MAY-2003
Oracle Universal Installer (OUI) for RDBMS 8.1.x Hangs on Machines with Pentium 4 Processors ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Versions Affected ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Oracle Universal Installer version 1.7.1.9.0 and earlier versions (bundled with products in 8.1.X CD packs). Platforms Affected ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Any platform that uses the Intel Pentium 4 processor with Sun JRE and Symantec JIT will encounter this problem. Windows NT, Windows 2000, Windows 98 and NetWare operating systems are confirmed to be affected. Description ~~~~~~~~~~~ The Oracle Universal Installer hangs when installing Oracle 8.1.x Server and Client products on machines that use Sun JRE and Symantec JIT. Likelihood of Occurrence ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Any Oracle Universal Installer 1.7.1.9.0 and earlier installation on a platform that uses the Intel Pentium 4 processor, with the Sun JRE and Symantec Just in Time Library (JIT) will encounter this problem. Possible Symptoms ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The failure is manifested in these ways: - The affected application simply terminates. - The installer hangs, quits, dies or disappears. - The hourglass appears, disappears and nothing else happens. Fix ~~~ 1. Obtain the OUI application (~15.3MBs) under patch number 1507768 in Metalink: a. Click Patches button b. Enter 1507768 in the Patch Number field c. Click Submit d. Download the patch 2. Unzip the patch to a temporary directory. 3. Uncompress the resulting Jar file (~20MBs). 4. Navigate to the following subdirectory under the temporary directory where the patch was unzipped and rename symcjit.dll cd <temporary_directory>\Disk1\stage\Components\oracle.swd.jre\1.1.7.30\1\DataFiles\Expanded\jre\win32\bin Rename symcjit.dll to symcjit.dll.old 5. Navigate to: cd\Disk1\install\win32 6. Run the setup.exe program from the current directory and install the OUI to your hard disk. 7. Use/Invoke this installed OUI from Start menu > Programs, to install Oracle 8.1.x and related products. Workarounds ~~~~~~~~~~~ Workaround 1: 1. Create a temporary directory on your server. 2. Copy the entire contents of the Oracle RDBMS Server CD to the temporary directory created in step 1. 3. Search the directory structure created in Step 1 for the existence of the filename symcjit.dll. 4. Rename each copy of the symcjit.dll to symcjit.old. 5. Run the setup.exe from the install\win32 directory (under the directory on your hard disk used in Step 1) and install Oracle 8.1.x and related products. Workaround 2: If you continue to experience any of the symptoms after performing Workaround 1, follow these steps: 1. Copy the contents of the \install directory on your CD-ROM to a temporary directory on your hard disk. 2. Search for all copies of the 'symcjit.dll' file both in and under the directory from Step 1, and rename them to 'symcjit.old'. 3. Navigate to the directory you created in Step 1, and open the 'oraparam.ini' file for editing. Please note this file is write-protected, and the properties of the file must be changed to allow writing before editing. 4. Change the JRE_MEMORY_OPTIONS parameter to JRE_MEMORY_OPTIONS=-nojit -ms64m -mx128m 5. Save the oraparam.ini file. 6. Navigate to the win32 subdirectory, under the directory you usedin Step 1, and run the setup.exe program. If you have tried Workarounds 1 and 2 and still experience problems, please do the following: Workaround 3: 1. Navigate to: Start> Settings > Control Panel > System 2. Select the "Advanced" tab 3. Click the "Environment Variables" button 4. Highlight the PATH entry and click "Edit..." 5. Copy down the current PATH setting. 6. Remove any entries that refer to previous JRE directories Note: Care should be taken when editing the system path. Incorrect edits can prevent Windows or other applications from starting properly. 7. If any entries were removed, repeat Workaround 1 or 2. Patches ~~~~~~~ Patch 1507768 is available on Metalink, and should be installed using the Fix section of this article. Thank you for reading my question and taking some time to help me. Much appreciated
I have some troubles with my photoshop 7. When I click on the exec setup file, it starts and then stops. Nothing happens, no window, no error message, just the exec doesn't launch.
The setup exe seems to be running in the task manager but appart from this, zero.
I've tried the administrator mode, the XP compatibility mode, the installation files copied on the C drive, ... nothing works.
I'm running a Windows 7 64 bits system, 8GB ram, and an SSD drive on C:.
Could someone help me with this issue ?

  • Ora10g_win64_cient Setup.exe does not start

    Hello Everybody,
I downloaded ora10g_win64_client (10.1.0.2) and I try to install it on Windows 2003 Enterprise SP1 for Itanium 2 but when I try to launch setup.exe then a black windows named Oracle Universal Installer appear on the screen.
On this window the following message are displayed...
    Starting Oracle Universal Installer...

Preparing to launch Oracle Universal Installer from C:\DOCUME~1\ADMINI\~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\1\OraInstall2007-01-23_06-04-52PM. Please wait...
After 5 seconds the window disappear and the Oracle Universal Installer does not start.
Do you have any idea to solve that problem?
    Thanks and best regards
    David Lindemann

    Hi,
Thanks for your reply to my thread but I already did what you suggested without success and after further investigations we found that the problem is in the jre. The java.exe does not work, it return an unknown error. We tried to download the jre from SUN in order to use it instead of the one delivered by Oracle and it worked the installation succeeded.
But now we have a new problem, the Network Configuration Assistant does not work an exception is throw by the oranjini10.dll

  • Setup.exe does not wait until the installation is done

    Hi,
I downloaded ODAC 10.2.0.2.21 from here:
    http://download.oracle.com/otn/other/ole-oo4o/ODAC1020221.exe
And after extracting all files, I use this command on cmd:
setup.exe -silent -noconsole -waitforcompletion -force -responsefile <Path>
Furthermore, I have BOOTSTRAP=FALSE on oraparam.ini but setup.exe does not wait until the installation is done.
I only want a way to wait for the installation to complete...
    Cheers,
    Joan

    Any ideas?

hello mlind1, can you see if it works by right-clicking the setup file and installing it as administrator?

  • Nothing happens after starting setup.exe

I downloaded the web premium CS4. When i try to install (setup.exe) i first get the administrator box to continue, after that i can wait for hours but nothing happens. I didn't have any problem installing the other CS4  software like Premiere pro CS4.
    Vista 32 ultimate.
please help me out so i can start working.

    extra information,
when i run setup for premiere CS4 and open the setup in windows task the size is the same as the setup folder.
when i run setup for web premium CS4 and lopen the setup in windows task the size is 0,0 mb.
think this is the reason why the setup wont start.
hope this extra information is of any use

  • I don't find the setup.exe file to begin the install

Hi! I'm trying to install my CS4 on my new laptop, but the install program doesn't show up automatically. So, I try to find the setup file to run it myself, but it doesn't appear either.
What can I do? Thanks a lot!
    Daniel.

I am also having this issue with CS6 Design Premium, no "setup.exe" file on the DVD. How can such a basic file be missing?
I also tried downloading the install files from online (DesignWebPremium CS6 LS16, DesignWebPremium CS6 LS16.7z) and am having great difficulties installing from them too.
Grrrrr, why is this soooooo difficult? I also just installed CorelDraw!X6 and that was as easy as falling off a log!

  • I am trying to reinstall Windows on my macbook pro.  I downloaded the support files and Windows 7 iso file to a USB drive.  However, when I try to run the setup.exe program I get the message "this program cannot be run in DOS mode."

I am trying to reinstall Windows (would not launch).  I removed the partition and started over.  I downloaded the support files and Windows 7 iso file to a USB drive.  However, when I try to run the setup.exe program I get the message "this program cannot be run in DOS mode."  I was successful before, what am I doing wrong this time?

    Try a restart.
If that doesn't fix the problem, shut down the computer and then power it back up. Immediately after hearing the startup chime, hold down the shift key and continue to hold it until the gray Apple icon and a progress bar appear. The boot up is significantly slower than normal. This will reset some caches, forces a directory check, and disables all startup and login items, among other things. If the system operates normally, there may be 3rd party applications which are causing a problem. Try deleting/disabling the third party applications after a restart by using the application unistaller. For each disable/delete, you will need to restart if you don't do them all at once.

  • New setup.exe for Adobe Acrobat 8.0 Pro

Per http://www.adobe.com/go/kb403246, there's a new setup.exe to let you install "all" updates to AAPro8.0 at initial install time.
Does this also include installing the Security Update 1 for 8.1.2, or, does that still have to be done separately?
    Thanks.

Yes on both accounts. We're running Sophos and I've shut down the process that auto-starts and runs it in the background. The user herself is an administrator and I've tried both on her account and the root workstation administrator with no success.

I don't know what goes wrong as took my serial number on my profile from the adobe web site, same thing for the download of the software.
Does it means that the serial number provided was invalid for deploying ?
NB.: My goal is to deploy our Acrobat XI through SCCM in silent mode and I don't know if there is extra consideration for that.  For now it's only not working at the command line.
Another important point is that the install works great without customization !  If I just run the setup.exe from freshly extracted files and I use my serial number, everything is working fine.
    So what goes wrong ?

Thanks for the reply brogers_1 and Vinod Dbhal, you gave good hint.
I retried installing the initial package in French on a Windows 7 English and the software installed properly in French.
As I used to work with virtuals for those tests, I rolled back my virtual and redo my test installation with chosing to install it in English on my Windows 7 English and again the installation finished properly but I was surprised when I realized that even if I chose English as language, the software was running in French !
Of course I can change the language settings (in the edit-preferences-language) to follow the operating system witch is nice.
That gave me the cue I needed to know.  I started from scratch my customization with choosing only the French language in the "Application Languages" and I left the MUI Languages blank and saved the .mst
    I ran again the same command : msiexec /i  AcroPro.msi TRANSFORMS=AcroPro.mst /qb!
    And everything works fine.
NB.: As I used the .msi directly, of course I had to install the prerequirement Visual C++ 2010 first.  Otherwise the installation failed without any error message.
Thanks again to you for your good hint,
    Bob

  • Setup.exe won't compete to allow driver installation

I've been using my K7N2 Delta2 Platinum motherboard without issues for years now.  Made no system changes whatsoever but a windows update caused me tons of issues.  I took the opportunity to clear out all my files and start from scratch.  Reformatted the drive, reinstalled Windows XP Home.  Then I downloaded the driver files from MSI, put it on the desktop and ran setup.exe.  The MSi screen comes up, then the install shield wizard initializes, then closes.
I am missing all my important drivers and I'm sort of stuck on what to try next.  I've downloaded a fresh copy, same old.
    Any thoughts, PLEASE!!!

No av software on as this was a clean, reformatted install, and since the ethernet driver isn't working I haven't put anything on yet.
I tried in safe mode, same thing.
I just reformatted and reinstalled windows, again.  I had left everything (printer, router...) plugged in when I installed windows last time.  Just in case, or some glitch installing windows started fresh again.
Running a memory test now, so far so good.
As soon as that is done I'll try again.
    Any other ideas???

  • Still converting Win app to Mac projector - how do I pack all of the files? like a setup.exe

I have been working on converting one my educational apps over to Mac because so many students are requiring it now. Still having trouble getting some check boxes to line up properly and have lost the sound, but I am more concerned right now figuring out how to create the equivalent of a setup.exe.  If I could just compress the projector.osx file along with the other .dcrs I think that could work.  Students could just download my compressed file into a folder in their Applications folder, uncompress my file , and then just click on the .osx to start the app.  I am not very familiar with Mac software so if there is an equivalent to winzip or an open source program like the one I use to create setup.exes that would be great. I think there is an hqx way of doing it, but I don't know how to create an hqx  Please advise - thanks!
    Professor S.

I have been able to borrow a Mac from my school, but am not familiar with the developer tools or disk utility. The developer tools for PackageMaker are not installed, so I'd like to try the dmg route before traveling all the way back there. Let's just say that I have all of the files I need in one folder I created within the Applications folder and I just want to put all of those files in one dmg file.  How would I do that?  I see disk utility ruuning in Finder Services, but it just says create a checksum.  Is that it or is disk utility somewhere else? [I have been researching this and just found it in Applications: Utilities.  I am creating a new image now and hope the dmg works. I have not figured out my second question howver about the shortcut]
Also, let's say that the dmg will include several dcr files and my launchapp.osx file.  How do I create that shortcut to the launchapp.osx file so students will know how to easy launch the app?
Please help with question 2, thanks.
