Setup Failure on 9ias r2 on NT4 sp6 workstation

Hi,
I'm trying to setup the "lite" version of 9ias R2 on my NT 4 sp6 workstation to use as a local test enviornment. When I double click on setup.exe nothing happens. Literally. The mouse cursor changes for a fraction of a second then nothing.
Is it possible to install 9ias r2 on a workstation? I need to do a "proof of concept" before upgrading my solaris server with the solaris version.
Art

Hi Arthur,
did you find the solution ?
I get the same problem under W2K SP2.
I already have Oracle 9i client installed on my pc, I hope it's not the problem.

  • Setup cocoon with 9ias 9.0.2 under windows NT

Setup Cocoon with 9ias OC4J (9.0.2) under Windows NT
This was a painful process for me. I finally made it work. Thought my story might help someone else. If anyone sees anything that could cause problems down the line, please let me know.
NOTE: This took me a week to get right, so the restarts I suggest may not be appropriate, just guesses on my part.
    A. FIRST SECTION (Based off of steps 9 - 11 of Metalink note 148497.1) - This deploys the cocoon.war file
    1. Copy cocoon.war file to oracle 9ias home in the j2ee/home/applications directory. (NOT cocoon_jvm14. I tried to use the cocoon with jvm1.4. The version of 9ias I use wanted 1.3, so that is what I ended up using.)
NOTE: I followed the 9-11 steps from the above note the first time and manually changed the files below, but when I had to reboot my machine a couple of days later it lost the changes. So I went in thru OEM and did it there and have had no problems. These steps are detailed below.
    2. Log into Oracle Enterprise Manager. Click on 9ias instance. Click OC4J_home.
    3. Go to Advanced Properties. Edit the default-web-site.xml file. Look for the statement <default-web-app application="default" name="defaultWebApp" root="/j2ee"/>. After that statement, add the following: <web-app application="default" name="cocoon" root="/cocoon"/>
    4. Go back to OC4J_home. Click on default link near the top of the page. (It has a Path underneath is that says application.xml) Then click on Advanced Properties. Edit the application.xml file. Look for the statement <web-module id="defaultWebApp" path="../../home/default-web-app"/>. After that statement, add the following: <web-module id="cocoon" path="../../home/applications/cocoon.war"/>.
    5. Go back to 9ias instance and do a "Restart All".
    B. SECOND SECTION ( Based off of Metalink note 184826.1)
    1. Go to the Apache/Apache/conf/mod_oc4j.conf file underneath your 9ias home. Add the following line at the bottom of the file: Oc4jMount /cocoon/* home
Either "Restart All" from OEM again, or follow step 3 from the note. WARNING: I read somewhere that if you try to do the dos dcm/opmn stuff with the OEM at the same time, that you have corruption problems? So close the OEM if you do the dos commands just in case.
    C. THIRD SECTION (This is what I did with the Cocoon jars to make 9ias/oc4J find them and use them. I am by no means saying this is the correct way. Just a way. If anyone has a different way, I would appreciate hearing it.)
    1. Go to 9ias home and in the j2ee/home directory make a new folder. (I called mine xerces.) Copy the following jar files, found in the j2ee/home/applications/cocoon/web-inf/lib directory (this dir will show up after cocoon.war is deployed with the A. FIRST SECTION restart), into your new folder:
    a. batik-all-1.5b2.jar
    b. xalan-2.3.1.jar
    c. xercesImpl-2.0.0.jar
    d. xml-apis.jar
    2. Log into the Oracle Enterprise Manager. Click on OC4J_home. Click on Server Properties. Scroll down to the bottom and type the following into Java Options: -Djava.ext.dirs=xerces. (If you named your new folder xerces.)
    D. LAST SECTION
    1. I rebooted my machine and said a prayer. From the url "http://myhost:7777/cocoon/" I got the cocoon welcome page!

I've heard rumors its about a month away. We were waiting for it, but then
decided to go to Linux, as it probably performs better, and the release for
Linux is already out. 9.0.2 is certified on Linux:
    - SuSe SLES7
    - Red Hat Advanced Server 2.1
Waiting for Oracle to release a software product seems almost like waiting
for a sunny day in Seattle -- you eventaly get it, but its unpredicatable
as to when it will actually be at best...

  • SQL Server Setup Failure 0x84B10001 (SQL 2012 SP2 and SQL 2014 Standard)

I'm having a problem with SQL Server Setup. I had SQL Server 2012 R2 SP1 installed, and the SP2 installer would fail.
I decided to just get SQL Server 2014. The setup (and system configuration checker) for that fails with the same error.
    SQL Server Setup failure
SQL Server Setup has encountered the following error:
'.', hexadecimal value 0x00, is an invalid character. Line 1, position 231747.
    Error code 0x84B10001
I found this and other posts about similar problems that point at MSDE being the cause.
    http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/sqlserver/en-US/bc9f4949-1b45-427c-aa2b-d2222488a13e/problems-installing-sql-server-2012error-code-0x84b10001?forum=sqlexpress
I definitely had MSDE installed, but I went through the steps to manually remove it and rebooted with no luck.

  • Can't install Oracle 8.1.7 client on  NT4.0 workstation

I can't get Universal Installer started on Windows NT4.0 workstation.
After I click the Deinstall/Install button, the install program terminated without any error messages. I tried many different ways, including applying Service Pack 6 on NT4.0, but nothing worked.
There is nothing wrong with the media (CD), since I was able to install it on Win2000.
Could some one give me a hint where to look at ?
    Thanks
    Joey

Interesting - my problem is the other way around! I can install on NT4 but not on Win2k. I'm beginning to think it may be hardware related - I'm trying to install on a new Dell Precision 340. Initially I thought it might be related to the graphics card (ATI, and I know there was at least one issue with ATI cards under certain circumstances) but I swapped that out, reinstalled everything and I still get exactly the same symptoms you do.
Will let you know if I find out the cause.
    Rory.

  • NT 4.0 SP6 Workstation; DCA failure on installation; Please help.

Hi folks, I'm on NT 4.0 SP6 and I'm trying to install the Personal Edition of Oracle 9i with General Purpose database and the Database Configuration Assistant displays error "ORA-12571: TNS PACKET WRITER FAILURE".
I've read a lot here in the installation forum; I've tried installing from the /install/win32/setup.exe, I've
tried different database types, running the DCA standalone after the install, and I still get this error.
Later I tried the unistall procedures and still can't get a successful installation with database. I've had a post out here for a week and I haven't gotten any response.
    I beleive my system specs are adequate, ie. disc space, memory, cpu, etc...;
Also, in the beginning of the install it tells me that I should have MTS (Microsoft Transaction Server) installed. Is this true? Do I really need MTS for a 'personal edition', non-networked version of 9i?
Can anyone help me solve this problem?
    Additionally:
I saw someone respond that Personal Edition was only for
Windows 98. I don't beleive that this is true. I know folks that have it installed on XP and 2000, as well as 98.
There seem to be a lot of problems with DCA posted in the installation forum. Why doesn't Oracle fix it so it works right?
    Many thanks for this forum.

  • Setup failure not recorded in Execution.ResultStatus

If a step fails during the Setup section of my sequence, the result visible in a VB.NET event handler is "Passed", rather than the expected "Failed" or "Error".
Private Sub ExecutionTwoFinished(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As NationalInstruments.TestStand.Interop.UI.Ax._ExecutionViewMgrEvents_EndExecutionEvent) Handles axExecutionViewMgrTwo.EndExecution
    If e.exec.ResultStatus = StepProperties.ResultStatus_Passed Then
    End If
    End Sub
I have "Step Failure Causes Sequence Failure" selected.
Is there a setting which I am missing to cause the failure to be reported correctly?
    Thanks!

    Hello PMichaelson,
I tried to replicate the issue that you are experiencing, but unfortunately I was not able to see the same behavior that you are seeing. When I ran a TestStand 3.1 sequence, which had a step that failed in the setup code group, the variable e.exec.ResultStatus from the function you listed in your post did return Failed. As long as your sequence is set to run the Setup and Cleanup code groups, I am not aware of any other settings in TestStand to force this behavior. If you are still having problems with this issue, you can create a small example which demonstrates this behavior, and feel free to attach it to this page. I will then see if I can replicate it on my end.

  • Adobe Reader Setup Failure - Error 150202

Repeated attempts to install Adobe Reader on my Windows XP SP3 PC fail with the following error in the Setup dialog box.  "Setup was interrupted before Adobe Reader XI could be completely installed.  Error Code: 150202"
I've tried searching for this specific error code to provide a clue about the failure, but I am coming up empty.
Can anyone help me to resolve this issue?
    Thanks.

  • 9iAS Installation on NT4 Service Pack 5

The installation hangs part way through the first phase when copying files - install window shows cleanup.bat and progress bar at 100%.
Task Manager shows the installer not responding. Click End Task kills the installer, then system reboots and eventually installer comes back up. Install continues but has problems.
    Why did install hang?
    No information in install log.
    null

I'm not sure if this is any help - you guys probably know more about this than me. I have managed to complete an installation of 9iAS Enterprise on Windows NT4/SP5 at home, although it took most of a day, and I haven't managed to get Apache to start (which is weird because usually Apache is pretty much indestructible).
I didn't have any problems during the re-boot at the start of the installation, but things got pretty slow later on. One thing I did was to increase the amount of virtual memory available to about 500MB in total (on top of 256MB RAM).
I also had errors complaining that my temp directory was full, so I shifted the temp directories to a bigger disk and tried again. There were also a couple of problems with the USER tablespace in the database, which meant increasing the tablespace as well.
As I say, the installation completed eventually - it's the Portal stuff that seems to take longest - but I'm not convinced the software actually works yet.
Oracle: If you're listening, how about improving the installation process for this stuff, and maybe giving us a vanilla configuration to get started with?
Hope this is helpful, and good luck!

  • Satellite L650-170 (PSK1JE) Setup Failure

Today i purchased a toshiba Satellite L650-170 (PSK1JE), i turned it on, and yay, I had to sit through a 2 hour long setup.
After 2 hours, it restarted for the 10+th time, and this time, instead of succesfully installing one of the 42 things it had to install,
it didnt start up, the only thing that was on the screen was a loading bar, with the text above saying it was starting the services
It did not do anything, i could just leave it there for an hour, "starting services"
So i tried to repair it, started it up, F8, and guess what, there was no Repair Computer option(wich should be there!),
all the other options were available, such as safe mode, so i tried safe mode
Even in safe mode the loading bar popped up, starting the services, and it crashed there.
I tried to recover it with a windows 7 recovery disk (wich i had to download and burn myself on another laptop..!)
Even with a recovery disk, it only gave me errors, it was unable to start the recovery
So yeah, now were about 6 hours later, ive successfully installed a trial of a different version of windows 7 on it,
Now all i have to do is download about 30 drivers from your website, and install them one by one, and restart the computer 30 times
I installed the webcam driver, restarted like it told me to, and i got a message that it was missing a dll file.
Do you have a disk available for download that contains the regular windows 7 home premium setup? with all the proper drivers?
Because mine was bugged obviously. Im not going to download 30 drivers that will not work on the current win 7 i have installed on it.
    Regards,
    Philipp.

    > Do you have a disk available for download that contains the regular windows 7 home premium setup? With all the proper drivers?
Because mine was bugged obviously. Im not going to download 30 drivers that will not work on the current win 7 i have installed on it.
    Recovery disk is not downloadable
First of all the notebook should contain HDD recovery option which could be started pressing F8 -> Repair my Computer -> HDD recovery.
Its strange that you didnt find this option
Here is documentation how to start the HDD recovery. But of course this would work only if the HDD was not formatted and OS has not been changed
    http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/ann.jspa?annID=58
However, it seems you have formatted the HDD using other Windows OS.
If you want to get recovery disk then you can purchase this from here:

  • Email account setup failure

AT&T 8310 Curve - I have one e-mail address set up and working fine: IMAP
Trying to set up a slightly more complex one fails.
The differences with the second account are:
    It uses SSL.
The mail server is NOT the same as the domainaname in the e-mail address.
The username is NOT the same as the part before @ in the email address.
The email address is: [email protected]
    Server is  mail-amer.isp.com
    Username is: ABC123
    Service is IMAP/SSL
So, when I try to "Set up an existing account" -- web/pc (but same result from BB).
I enter email address [email protected] and password.
This fails, as I would expect. I then choose the option to provide the details myself.
    I enter:
    Username: ABC123
    Password: ******
    Email Server: mail-amer.isp.com
    Email address: [email protected]
It tries to set up, but fails.
I am assuming that it will try SSL - Port 993 since I can't specify this.
    It should work, but doesn't.
The text on the setup form worries me. although I selected ISP POP/IMAP the form is entitled "Set up existing Outlook / Outlook Express account" -- Which is NOT what I am trying to do.
Similarly, the comments under the entry fields seem to be wrong.
For username it says "(e.g. jdoe or [email protected])"  -- well, my username isn't the first part of the email addr.
Anyway - whatever - it fails to work.
Of course, there seems to be no way to contact anyone with a clue to get this set up ... any suggestions are welcome!

when it fails ( you can make it fail by providing wrog password): Choose this is my work email account -> I will provide the settings to add this email account   -> in the server name try using IP address: 216.126.204.65 ( this is what came when i used 'mail-amer.isp.com', is its diferentmail server, get the correct IP address) and then also make sure the user name is correct (it could be 'jdoe' or your full email address, try both).

  • Evernote Account Setup Failure

I cannot get the account setup for Evernote to work on a Z10.
    What's occurring:
    Setup->Accounts->Add Account->Evernote
        evernote login page shown.
I enter user name and password, click on "Sign in"
Evernote website goes to next page
    I click on "Authorize"
immediately I get an "Error: Couldn't connect to the server" and it shows a "Try again" button
    I click "Try Again"
Evernote website displays 'Missing required oauth parameter "oauth_token"' and dead ends.
There is a 'cancel' button ribbon at the top of the screen for the whole duration, so I think I am still in the normal account setup.  Anyone else have same problem?  Is there a workaround?
From Evernote's perspective, the Blackberry is being authorized correctly, it is visible as a new device in the Evernote account logs.  But the blackberry does not appear to be capturing the oauth token, nor completing the account setup process. I can't tell which side of the equation (Blackberry account setup vs. Evernote website) is screwed up.
Evernote customer support will not provide support.
    I'm running latest OS on a Z10.
I can't think of any interfering service or web configuration.  I've tried over cellular and wifi data services.

Have exact same problem and response from Evernote.  The first Z10 I had sent through the Evernote setup with no problem and was working great.  That device was faulty and had to get another.  2nd one has the problem.  Will monitor this thread for updates.

  • Unable to create partition after RAID setup failure

SL - Tried to create RAID 1 with two external 250G drives. The RAID setup failed indicating improper format pair. So....I attempted to re-create the partition on one of the drives with proper settings.
It will not partition at all. It returns a POSIX error: unable to allocate memory.
    I've tried the following:
    Using startup disk
Partitioning using WindowsXP (which worked....only for Windows)
    Tried erasing
Tried to partition with each partition type.
Nothing works! However, when I restart SL, it pops open a window indicating the drive needs to be 'initialized'. I click 'initialize' button, but that doesn't help.

    Do the following:
    Extended Hard Drive Preparation
    1. Open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder. If you need to reformat your startup volume, then you must boot from your OS X Installer Disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger or Leopard.)
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area. If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing. SMART info will not be reported on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID (for Intel Macs) or APM (for PPC Macs) then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
    4. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
    5. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
    6. Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to several hours depending upon the drive size.
Are you trying to create a RAID using partitions on hard drives or using the entire drive?
