  • How to setup gmail push notification for my iphone 5?

I'm using gmail. Prompt respond for mails is very urgent for me.
How to setup gmail push notification for my iphone 5?

I switched from a BB to an iPhone a few days ago and I knew I was going to miss the QWERTY keyboard but then I also discovered that my GMail doesn't 'push' to my iPhone. I was used to 'push' for all mail accounts on the BB. I also missed being able to personalize text, email, and phone tones for individuals.
I tried the Gmail app for iOS and it does deliver Gmail to the iPhone app quickly but the text is tiny and when it is a web page it's almost impossible to read.
So, I have worked out a kludge to get around these problems.
I added my exisiting Gmail account to the iPhone.
Hotmail does push to iOS 7 so I created a Outlook account (could be hotmail or Live) using the web browser.
I added the hotmail account to the iPhone. I basically use this to give fast notification of important emails on my iPhone.
On my macbook email client I created a rule that 'redirects' incoming mail to the hotmail account. The 'Redirect' is important since the email will show up in the hotmail account on the iPhone as coming from the original sender and you can then respond to the original sender from the iPhone, though the sender will see it as coming from the hotmail account.
The other downside is that you will get a second copy of the email in the gmail inbox on the iPhone, probably 15 minutes later.
If you don't want all of the mail being redirected you can create a 'redirect' group in the Address book and then adjust the rule in Apple mail to only redirect the mail to the hotmail account if the sender is in the redirect group. You can add and delete contacts from this group depending upon which ones you consider to be important. You will still get two copies of the email on the iPhone, one in the hotmail inbox and one in the gmail inbox.
You can prevent this from happening temporarily by turning off, but not deleting, the gmail account on the iPhone. You could then edit the emails on the Apple email client before turning the gmail back on in the iPhone.
And finally if you use the VIP feature in email on the iPhone you can create a list of VIP contacts and then assign a different notification sound for the VIP's. So in effect important contacts mail will be redirect to the iPhone for quick notification and very, very important contacts will have a different notification sound.
I'm basically using the Hotmail account as a notification  tool and basically delete all the emails in it since the original copy will be in the gmail account.
And best of all it's all free, except for the bandwidth.

  • Setup GMail On Nokia C3.

    Hello,
I have recently purchased Nokia C3, but I am unable to find any option or details in User Guide to how to setup GMail on this device.
Please guide me the next steps.
    Thanks.

    Hi,
I hope this FAQ helps you all.
In the majority of these instances, the following procedure will fix the issue:
From the main menu (and with the SIM Card still inserted), select Settings.
    Select Configuration.
    Select Preferred Access Point.
Select a listed access point, either WAP or Internet.
Go back to the main menu.
    Select Messaging.
    Open Email and proceed.
If a Communication Error still occurs, please follow these steps:
Go to your Network Operator's support page and request the Access Point configuration settings for WAP and Internet (GPRS).  The Operator might be able to send these settings to your phone via a text message.  If the Operator can send via a text message, go to step elect the newly configured access point name (either WAP or Internet or both).
From the main menu on your device, select Settings.
    Select Configuration.
    Select Personal Config Sett..
    Select My Access Point.
Enter a name for your access point and input the settings obtained from your Network Operator for WAP settings.  The settings may already exist.  Please ensure the information is correct and create a new access point name if the Operator's most current settings are not in the list of specified access points.
Repeat step :Enter a name for your access point and input the settings obtained from your Network Operator for WAP settings.  The settings may already exist.  Please ensure the information is correct and create a new access point name if the Operator's most current settings are not in the list of specified access points. . for the Internet (GPRS) settings.
Select the newly configured access point name (either WAP or Internet or both).
Try connecting to Nokia Messaging Email again.

  • Can't setup Gmail account - "Mail couldn't discover the account settings for the Mail server "

Since upgrading to Yosemite I can't add one of my gmail accounts.
It's my business domain which is hosted with GMAIL. It worked before the upgrade. Now adding the email address in 'internet accounts setup'  I get the message "Can't setup Gmail account - "Mail couldn't discover the account settings for the Mail server "
Mail will not let me setup an email account directly in mail either.
There seems to be major problems with mail in this update.
    Also SMTP keeps failing.
    Yosemite is a disaster.

Try this. I saw this solution elsewhere on the boards here.
When setting up a business gmail account, something other than @gmail.com, when you try to add the account in Mail preferences, don't select Google as the account type. Choose, "Other." Fill out the name, email and password as usual. Worked great for me after having similar issues trying to get my business gmail account to work in Yosemite.

  • Mail Setup - Gmail - Show All - Local Folders - IMAP - Yosemite - Am I set up properly?

    Hi All
I recently moved to Yosemite on a recently acquired rMBP - and after a little fun setting up Mail I seem to be settled in. However whilst experiencing some Mail / Gmail issues (now sorted) I read how other people are setup - and I am now wondering if my setup is incorrect or rather 'not how it should be done'. I access my email via my rMBP and an iPhone using IMAP. I am currently set up thus:
    1) I have three mailboxes / email addresses provided by Virgin Media - these are actually Gmail accounts
    2) I have a series of folders / sub folders 'On My Mac' which is where I move / store my emails once dealt with that I want to keep
    3) I have the 'Show All Mail' label set to hide in Gmail - and 'Show in IMAP' for this label is unchecked
    4) I have the mailbox behaviour in Mail set thus for all accounts:
I have found using this setup I have no problems with duplicate messages in Mail or the Gmail portal that others seem to have experienced - and when I move messages to 'On My Mac' folders - or delete them in Mail they disappear from the Gmail inbox and are moved to Gmail's Bin / Trash in Mail as desired. Gmail is also keeping all of my sent mail on their servers. This way I am using a fraction of my Gmail storage space - hence plenty of space to carry on like this for some years. I backup my email locally - including the inboxes and sent mail which I assume are safe anyway on Gmail's servers.
Is this a suitable setup - am I missing something by doing it this way?
    Many thanks

    Hi Eric
Thanks for looking over my setup and allaying my concerns
I had wondered about setting up folders (labels on Gmail) to take the place of my folders 'On My Mac'. However having three different email addresses - and some mail from each of those going into the same local folder - I thought this could end up in a mess - unless it's possible to share a 'label' across email accounts...
I have around 3Gb in local folders - so plenty of room if I wanted to do that. I suppose it would give me access to those folders on my iPhone if it worked properly - and provide another backup online.
I guess I just wanted to keep it simple as I have seen plenty of people fighting to get Gmail / Mail talking properly.
    Thanks again.

  • IPhone 5, unable to setup gmail

Never had an Apple anything before and I'm ready to throw the phone on the ground and stomp on it repeatedly.  I am trying to set up my gmail account.  I've made sure that IMAP is enabled on my gmail account.
When I go into email setup, I now avoid the gmail option and go to other
I enter in my name, email, password, and description, tap next.
New Account, IMAP, incoming mail server, I enter the host name imap.gmail.com, my emaill, and password, I do the same for outgoing, smtp.gmail.com, email, password
Hit next and it says "Cannot Get Mail, The user name or password for "imap.gmail.com" is incorrect"
Is the username not my email address?  I watched a video on youtube and the guy instucting through this process explained you enter your email address.  Please help, before I literally throw the thing on the ground and jump on it repeatedly or take it back to the store and keep my Android, which I'm really starting to fall in love with again because of its simplicity.

I solved this problem.  It was so simple - click on "Google" to choose the type of new email account you want to add to your phone, not "Other".  It doesn't specifically say "Gmail", but it does say "Google".
I picked up my new iPhone 5S yesterday.  Choosing "Other" from the list of email accounts, I was not able to set up gmail.  I used imap.gmail.com for the incoming server, and smtp.gmail.com for the outgoing server.  My username and password were correct, entered over and over to be sure there were no typos.  I can't tell you how frustrating this was!  What was I doing wrong??  Apparently, you just can't set it up from this page, no matter how correct your answers are.
Choose "Google", not "Other".  Once you enter your username and password, voila!  It will fill in automatically and a second later, you are fulfilled and happy.
I hope this is helpful to others out there who are, like me, standing here in their pajamas, coffee cup long ago discarded, hair standing on end, wild-eyed with impatience on this weekend morning.  At last, I can check my email.

  • Best way to setup Gmail on iOS 4 on a 3GS

Prior to upgrading my 3GS to iOS 4, I have had my email set up as follows:
    * Gmail is my primary email account
    * I have Gmail importing a secondary POP account
    * My iMac syncs Calendar and Contacts to Google
    * My 3GS links to my Gmail account as a MS Exchange server (Mail, Contacts, and Calendar)
    * Most of the time I use the iPhone Mail App
    * Sometimes I use the Google Gmail app
    This has worked OK.
Q: With iOS 4, should I keep my current setup but disable Mail on the Exchange Server side, then set up another account using the iPhone Gmail option with just Mail enabled? Or should I delete this account (or disable Mail, Calendars, and Contacts) and create an iPhone Gmail account?

Thanks sinious! Very helpful. Your suggestion makes sense. I just looked up the latest adoption stats and it looks like 90% of users
    are on iOS 7.
I guess I'm wondering if restricting the OS version is the *best* way to exclude iPod/iPhone 1st-3rd gen.
It's seems like many people are adding
    <key>UIRequiredDeviceCapabilities</key><string>front-facing-camera</string>
to the info-additions section of their XML application descriptor file. But I understand this comes with a small risk Apple will reject your app (because it imposes a restriction you don't actually use). Also, I've read of one post where someone said this didn't exclude iPhone 3GS for him.
So, I'm wondering out of the two approaches - 1) front-facing-camera and 2) restricting OS version to 7.0 or higher - which one most people use and their experiences with them. Which one's the best? Are they both considered reliable?
I just don't want to screw up my app submission. I here that if you get app approved with a compatibility for a particular device (eg. iPhone 3GS), you can't remove it in updates.
    Thanks!
