Setup over WAN AirPort Express

Hi all,
I just checked the box "Allow setup over WAN" in the AirPort Utility, now, how do I connect to the AirPort Express from my office?
Thanks,

Hi kevin_h,
By checking the box "Allow setup over WAN" you can now configure the base station over the Ethernet network connected to the WAN port (Wide Area Network port) of the Airport Express.
AirPort Utility 6.x: Give your base station or AirPort Time Capsule a name and password
Select Allow Setup over WAN if you want to configure your wireless device over the Ethernet WAN port. This lets you make changes to settings when you’re connected over a network.
This assumes your office is wired to the Airport Express with Ethernet.
Once configured, you can connect to the base station wirelessly.

  • AirPort: Setup over WAN/Bonjour?

    Hi all
Can anyone explain me the difference between these 2 features of the AirPort Extreme:
    - Allow setup over WAN
    - Allow setup over the Internet using Bonjour
What's the difference? And what should I do to setup the Base Station over WAN or Bonjour?

This is a guess, but I think that for the second option to be active, the first option would have to be active.

  • ALLOW SETUP OVER WAN

I would like to be able to setup my AE from outside my LAN.
I know there is the option "Allow Setup Over WAN" but once set, how to connect to the router?
Can be done with iOS Airport Utility?
    Michel

AFAIK you will have to use a Mac so you can connect to the AE using BTMM and the Airport Utility.
    iOS does not support BTMM.

  • I lost control over my Airport Express

I lost control over my Airport Express. It is still working, wireless network is alright, but the Airport Utility can not find it. I reinstalled the utility on my desktop but still the same.

That's irritating. What is the exact message provided by AirPort Utility? Is it something like "No configured AirPort base stations have been found"?
What version of AirPort Utility are you using, which AirPort Express model do you have (look on its case for a number like A1084, A1264 or A1392), and what version of OS X are you using?

  • How do I get my PC to play internet music over my Airport Express?

    Can you help please?
I want to play music from the internet over my Airport Express rather than the PC speakers. Playing itunes music works fine.

You will need an application like Airfoil for Windows to be able to stream any audio source on your PC to the AirPort Express.

  • Do I need an ethernet switch or new router for IP camera setup with old Airport Express

    Hello,
I am trying to setup a third party Foscam IP camera to my network so that I can ultimately use it as a baby monitor, and am having some difficulty.  I currently still have an old Airport Express (with one ethernet port only).  This is preventing me from setting up the initial camera because I don't have another ethernet port to plug it in to on the router.  I am wondering if I can just buy an ethernet switch and have it "split" the ethernet from my modem to both the camera and the Airport (I do need to check with my ISP provider if they give me two separate IP address... but if they do, would this work?).
I am fairly sure however, that my ISP provider (comcast) only provides one IP for my account.  Does this mean I would have to buy a new router altogether with more than one ethernet port on it or one with a WAN port?  Would I, in this case, have to plug the modem into the WAN port on the router, and then the camera to one of the ethernet ports on the router?
I consider myself fairly tech savy, but when it comes to routers, IPs, LAN, WAN, etc. I get a bit lost.  This has been creating quite a headache for me and any help would be appreciated!  Thanks in advance!

Sorry, but this won't work as the modem expects only a single device ... either a computer or a router to be connected to it. Unless your modem is actually a combination modem & router or gateway device, then you would need a different router to solve your networking problem.

  • Setup Problem New Airport Express 802.11ac

    Current setup is:
Cable Modem to Linksys Router to Ethernet Switch to Airport Express 802.11n (in bridge mode).
Airport Express is plugged into the ethernet switch and set to a fixed LAN address.
    Everything works fine and reliable.
Just bought a new Airport Express 802.11ac
Plugged it into another ethernet switch port and tried to set it up the same way (bridge mode), but used a different fixed LAN address and different wireless network name.
I get a warning message that it cannot get a DNS.
I go ahead anyway and it doesn't work.  Router hangs and has to be rebooted.
When I set the new AEX to "extend existing network", it works ok.  But I assume that in this mode I'm still limited by the speed of the old 802.11n device, which is between me and the router and modem.
What is the reason that I can't have two AExpress units both in bridge mode tied to the same router?

... But I assume that in this mode I'm still limited by the speed of the old 802.11n device, which is between me and the router and modem.
Correct. Also, you won't be able to use 802.11ac anyway unless you are using a new MacBook Air or other device capable of  802.11ac.
Make sure that the AirPort Utility setup screen did not say "Setting up this AirPort Express to wirelessly extend (your network name)".
The words you must see are "Setting up ... using Ethernet".
If necessary, set it up again beginning with a "hard reset" and verify that is the result. Leave it connected as you described when you do. Your proposed configuration should work.

  • Problems syncing Airtunes over multiple Airport Express speakers

I've recently purchased a second Airport Express to allow me to stream music over airtunes to two rooms in the house at the same time. However, the music doesn't synchronise - there is a noticeable latency between the two sets of speakers so it sounds awful when you move from one room to another.
Is there any way to address this? I'm wondering if the issue is that one AX is brand new and the other is about two years old (so is only 602.11g, not 602.11n and is also on older firmware).

Unfortunately, you're at the mercy of both the ieee802.11 and ethernet standards here, and without complex timing signals, there isn't much you can do. The latency can be affected by any number of issues. I have found, however, that having both AX's on the same type of networks (such as both on ethernet or wifi) does help. However, I did have my appleTV on wifi and AX on ethernet with no timing issues.

  • HT3669 Failed printer setup, bonjour via airport express on 10.8.3, unable to download drivers?

Trying to install a Samsung SCX-4500 printer over bonjour via airport express. My Mountain Lion machine sees the printer and I've manually installed the latest Samsung drivers, it says it can't find the software on Apple's servers. I just downloaded the latest drivers from Samsung directly, it did not resolve the problem.
I am unable to select printer drivers manually for the 4500; even if I manually select the 4500W drivers it still attempts to download software (unsuccessfully). It works perfectly on 2 Lion machines and a PC, unsure what the deal is.
I'm having trouble even getting the post message' button to work now, it isn't my day...

  • Setup works UNTIL Airport Express "restart"

My Airport Express stopped working & scans couldn't find it. I have powered down my modem and done a hard restart of the AX. After several attempts I was able to see the AX and configure it.
I got a message that everything was successful and that I just had to wait for the AX to restart. But the restart somehow fails (message something like: "unable to recognize/find your Airport Express after restart"). What to do?

It sounds like you want the AirPort Express to "join" your existing wireless network, is that correct? The Express does not provide any additional wireless coverage when it "joins", but can be used to connect a stereo to the audio output jack to stream AirTunes, or to a compatible printer for remote printing functions.
In order for the Express to "join" a wireless network, you need to be able to tell it the exact type of wireless security that your main wireless router is using. You may already know this, or if you are not sure, you may need to access the configuration/setup pages of the router to learn what type of security that it is using. +Without the exact, correct security settings, the AirPort Express cannot join a wireless network+.
Post back when you locate the exact type of security that your wireless router is using and we'll provide some setup tips to get you going again.

  • Had a Airport Express connected to my stereo and it was working.  I brought an Airport Extreme and suddenly it took over and Airport Express stopped working and disappeared from Airport Utility. What I am supposed to do?  ar2ro

I have an Airport Express connected to my stereo and it was working without any problem.
Recently I bought an Airport Extreme to use it as my Base Unit connecting it to my DSL.
I followed the instructions of the Airport Utility, and it started working.
Suddenly, problems started happen the Airport express that was connected to the stereo , stopped working and it disappeared from the Airport Utility area , as it did not exist in the network. I tried to reset it but it did not appear in the Airport Utility page.
Apparently I have other problems with the private network that it created because I cannot use it because of problems with the password that was created.  I can only use the network that  I created for my guest...
I dont know if my problem is a configuration problem or  there is problem with the equipment.
I read that other users where having the same problem with the Airport express , using non apple equipment as their base unit , but I thought that using the Airport Extreme was going to be compatible and no problems would happen.
    What should I do?

    Common Problem. Common solution.
Connect your Express via ethernet cable to the Mac while other network connections on the Mac are switched OFF.
After the Express shows up, change the settings of the Express to join the existing network. Take the appr. settings.
Unplug and reconnect your Mac to the network.
Check if the Express shows up in Airport Utility
    Alternative solution:
Hardreset the Express to factory settings
(while on power push the Pin next to the audio plug with a paperclip. Plug out the Express still holding down the little button then replug the Express to power and release button)
After that, the Express will show up in the Airport Utility.
    Make all needed settings.
I would prefer the first solution, its easier just to plug a cat5 cable.

  • NAS setup question using Airport Express

I currently have a non-apple wifi router in the living room in which my modem is plugged in to. I have an airport express in my bedroom as an "extender".
I am interested in buying a NAS (specficially the WD My Book World Edition).
If I plug in the hard drive in to the Airport Express using an ethernet cable, will the drive appear as a NAS on my macbook? Please let me know if I need any special settings on my Airport Express.
I realize I can't use Airport Disk utility via the USB drive which is only supported on the Extreme, but will this work? Thanks in advance

    Thanks for the reply.
I have a linksys cable modem/router, which is one unit the that the cable company provided.
I do beleive that it is configured to "join a wireless network". Although I dont know what WDS is and I doubt my linksys supports it.
Is there any way to attach my NAS drive to my airport express, The ethernet port cant "re-broadcast" the internet connection though it without this WDS configuration?

  • USB printer setup on an Airport Express extended from an Airport Extreme

Not sure how to set this up.
I have a USB Printer connected to my Express, which is set up as an extension of my Airport Extreme base station.
The Express shows the printer connected on the setup - printer screen, but how do I get access to it from my wirelessly connected laptops.
When I checked the box to connect to the printer through a WAN network, it gave me a problem to resolve, which somehow required me to set up a host name for publishing to the internet. not sure this was going down the right path.
The Airport extreme manual mention using bonjour, but i don't see that installed on my laptop, which it said it would be.
    any ideas?

The express can only support one band at a time. The phones only can connect to 2.4, while ipads and computers can connect to both bands.
Looks like your express is set to use the 5 Ghz band.

  • ITunes playing over 3 Airport Express basestations

I've read that people have success now playing iTunes over multiple basestations, but wondered if this was just over 2, or if anyone had tried it with 3 basestations? Obviously its quite expensive to buy 3 and try it myself!
    Thanks
