Setup ports in Time Capsule

hello folks,
I replaced my old router (non TC) by a pretty new TC 3Tb.
I have installed also in my home some cameras that transmites images real time throught out internet using DYNDNS.
on my previous router I was obliged to setup some specific ports to allow outgoing internet traffic, but after install TimeCapsule, my cameras is not visible.
So the question is, Can I setup TimeCapsule to allow outbound internet traffic as my previous router ?
thanks
CarlosM

Yes, the same port forwarding rules apply..
See
https://discussions.apple.com/community/wireless/airport?view=documents
Port Mapping documentation.
But many many people are finding the port opening on the new TC / AE models is flaky.. it will not work reliably.. Welcome to the future.

I am trying to setup my new time capsule but it is not working. after entering the airport utility and locating the TC, after I tell the program to continue, the unit just disappear from the menu and the setup menu says there is an error. I tried using the wireless connection, and also the cable, but none worked. Any idea of what could be happening?

What are you setting it up as.. join wireless network .. the very worst setup, it will disappear.. reboot the whole network in order modem. router TC.. clients and it will likely reappear.
Tell us what network setup you are using..
If you setup with cable to a computer completely isolated from the network with TC also isolated.. finish the setup of everything you want. .before update.. then plug it into the network. .then restart everything in correct order.. it will work most of the time.

  • Optimal Setup for New Time Capsule with Wireless AC

I'm curious to see what the hypotehtical optimal setup for my Time Capsule.  I understand that wireless speeds depend on a ton of factors and that part of getting the best connection is just trying different options.  I have a new Time Capsule that's connected to the following devices: iPhone 5S; new MacBook Air with wireless AC; old iMac from 2007; old AirPort Express that only supports b/g and a newish Apple TV that supports wireless N, I believe.  I was connecting to the network (which was not designated with the 5ghz) and I recently chose the option to label the 5ghz.  I'm using that now to stream music with the new iPhone and the Apple TV with no problems, but I have no longer have the option of using the old Airport express because it's an old one.  I'm thinking of just getting a new Airport Express and leaving it at that, but wanted to know if anyone has some thoughts on this.  I'm sure there's a more concise and direct way to ask this question, but my knowledge is pretty limited here.  Thanks in advance.

The Time Capsule is already set up for optimal performance when you open up the box.
You can assign a separate name to the 5 GHz network and point devices that are capable to that network. This works well if the device is located close to the Time Capsule.
But, 5 GHz signals are much weaker than 2.4 GHz signals, so once you move a room or two away, or the signal has to pass through several walls, the 2.4 GHz will be stronger.....and probably faster as well.
But...your device will try to stay locked on the 5 GHz network since you set it up that way.
This type of setup may or may not work best for you.  For most users, it is simpler and more effective to use the default settings on the Time Capsule to have both bands use the same network name.
Then, your wireless devices will automatically connect to the signal with the best quality. Best quality may not be the fastest signal since there are lot of factors involved with signal quality. But, if you think about it a bit more, don't you want to have your wireless device connect to the signal with the best quality?
Some users swear by assigning a separate name to the 5 GHz band. I'm not one of them, but If it works well for them and they are happy, then there is no reason to change.
An older AirPort on your network is going to drag down the speeds. You need the new AirPort Express, or better yet an AirPort Extreme if you want to be able to extend the new 802.11ac signal.

  • Cannot print from Canon MF4412 through USB port of Time Capsule

    Hi everyone,
I've recently purchased a new Canon imageCLASS MF4412 and cannot print while connected to the USB port of the time capsule. I can print and scan perfectly when connected directly to the mac.
This is the exact steps I took:
1.After connecting the usb cable to the back of Time capsule, I go to the sys pref pane to add a printer.
2.It shows up as a 'Bonjour' and I had to manually select the driver.
3.It added fine and I thought everything was setup.
4.However, when i go to print something, there's an error. "Canon URF II Printer Driver"
"Cannon communicate with the printer, or the printer is not supported. If the printer is supported, check the printer connection and add it again. Then, if the Print Dialog box has a [Printer Info] button, acquire the printer information: 10322"
    Anybody know of a solution?
    Thanks.

I got a similar problem on MF4412, the canon 4412 is connected the newest airport extreme , it get configured. But I got same problem described about on my leopard, lion, even worst on iOS, it does not find the printer. But I got a Windows 7 starter NetBook ...haha it works, I can print it from Windows. what is the problem then,it works on Windows but not Apple's OS??????

  • Port forwarding Time Capsule Airport 7.6.3

Network problems.  I want to run a free software called Maptool 1.3b89.  I created some sweet maps in OS version 10.7.5, and assembled players, but I can't connect with other computers.  I have the Time Capsule (router) with Airport version 7.6.3, updated, Cisco cable modem.  I updated Java when I installed Maptool, less than a month ago.
The Maptool Networking FAQ says UPnP is by far the easiest approach, furthermore,"(An alternative is called NAT-PMP, but they are functionally the same so the second won't be mentioned again.)  "This sounds as if one can plow ahead and get the same result.  Believing they were functionally the same, I enabled NAT-PMP, attempted to connect with the UPnP box checked, and Maptool returned: "no internet gateway devices found UPnP port mapping will not be available."
So I asked, "If I get the server enabled, will it work for windows, or just for mac clients?  Is this where it is functionally the same?"
Here is the response, though I'm not certain it addresses my concern:  "The NFAQ is incorrect if it says that NAT-PMP is the same as UPNP. NAT-PMP is a new protocol from Apple that only applies to the AirPort routers, although a lot of other routers now support it as well.  I'll fix the FAQ.  There will be a b90 build either tonight or tomorrow that will fix the UPNP bug, but it won't help with NAT-PMP since it's a different protocol.  I'll see if I can find a way to support NAT-PMP but it's not likely to be soon."
Does that translate to, give up or get a different computer, Mac user?
I searched these forums.  The suggestions aren't talking about version 7.6.3 of Airport.  They tell you to go to port mapping, which is not an option/selection offered.  The most useful post says my version of Airport is a toy hammer with no functionality, go get old Airport, version 5.6.  Did that using Unpkg.  Did not run both airports at the same time.  Followed another post that referenced Bit Torrent, thus, I enabled Nat-PMP, and mapped all four ports to 51234, the default port for Maptool.  Airport 5.6 returned: The airport utilty was unable to find your Airport wirless device after restarting, the settings for this wirless device have successfully updated, but there was a problem rejoining the wirless network or finding the Airport wireless device.  you may need to select your network from the Wi-fi menu and try again.
Lost wireless.  Did a backup from Time machine and still couldn't connect wirelessly.  Restarted and the wirless returned.
The NFAQ says UPnP won't work with port forwarding (at the same time) but that is what seems to need to happen on a Mac.  I tried portforward.com.  Does not have my router.  Followed instructions for the only featured Apple/Macintosh product, Airport Extreme.  Not even close.
I have clicked all the advanced buttons and menu choices through Airport and through (settings)network, and figured out you can click on the + sign.  The outdated portforward.com info says, "enter both the public and private boxes with the same port number," and shows two boxes, but I have four boxes: IPV4 port mapping, public (and private) UDP ports, Public (and private) TCP ports.  Should I fill all four with port 51234 and use the provided IP address?
I can't make my IP address static.  I followed the portforward guide and lost my internet connection. Portforward Open Port check tool says, "this program cannot be run in dos mode," with a giant code strip following. Excuse my ignorance, but why is a dos program set up to run a test that is embedded in a Macintosh installation guide? Is that an emulator or a different dos?    Shouldn't it be Unix or something?  It says if I have no internet connection (which I don't at this point) to restore my original settings. Futile.  The user guide offered here isn't my software version but it says to enable NAT-PNP and give the ip adress to the host, but Maptool isn't going to use this special IP because it will only see the public one, right?
I was tempted to buy one of their products like PCconfig but here is what they say, "Instead of manually configuring your network router, just pick your app from a list and update your router with a single click." but they don't bother to indicate whether it works for mac, don't feature my router, and it says you must pick an app, but Maptool is not featured in the giant list of users that, "you are forwarding ports for."  I tried to download PF Setup Static IP Address but the download was a Windows app, so I couldn't run it.
I have tried just enabling Nat-PMP by itself, Canyouseeme.org returns "firewall or ISP is blocking certain parts, error, I could not see your service on (my IP address) port 51234."  I have tried port mapping by itself to port 51234, which causes the time capsule to crash, requiring a backup and reboot to restore the wireless network, and both together, which is contrary to the way it is supposedly done with UPnP.
If I installed Windows that wouldn't change how it networks.  What is my next step, buy another router?
Downloaded Hamachi.  The tutorial no longer launches.  The tech data has removed the mac screen shots and not replaced them, but I can see the headings and blank spots where they should be.   I assume they aren't supporting new mac users.  Logmein was just as obscure.  I don't feel very confident about either product.  The freeware Virtual Network Provider gets reviews like, "hard to use," and "complex interface."
Thanks in advance for your consideration.

If you want to use maptool and it is only going to work with UPNP type router. Then simply replace the TC with a standard router.. it is less than $100 for a very reasonable one like Netgear WNDR3800 which has 3rd party firmware like dd-wrt, openwrt and gargoyle as well as netgear which is pretty but lacks features.
Bridge the TC and keep it as backup target for TM which is what it does best.. and wireless AP for apple devices.

  • What DNS settings to use in server setup with a time capsule

I have a mac mini and am to install leopard server on it for our office.
i think the standard install is for me...small business needing filesharing and vpn access only. We have outsourced exchange which i'm probably going to keep, and also an outsourced web server.
I had a trial run at install and came across some problems (clients couldn't use vpn or ichat) so thought I better check my assumptions with you experts!
i presume DHCP will be run by the time capsule, and 5 or 6 macbooks will share the broadband connection. Got to the 'Network address pane' and it had an IP and subnet assigned by the time capsule (10.0.2.2, 255.255.255.0).
I clicked next and got the 'network names' pane...maybe this is where i went wrong...I set primary DNS name as macserver.[mycompany].com and the computer name as Mac Server.
I went through the rest of the set up...added some users and file sharing is all work fine. Client machines auto set up via directory utility
    PROBLEMS:
iChat says it cannot connect due to mac server ...something to do with ssl
    VPN says internet connection problem
i can access internet from clients and server machine; can file share no problem.
There is something obvious that I am missing...

iChat says it cannot connect due to mac server ...something to do with ssl
It would help if you quoted the actual error message, rather than some vague reference.
The chances are it's complaining about the SSL certificate that the server is using - it probably doesn't match the server name. There are many reasons for this, but the upshot is that you need an SSL certificate that is valid for the hostname that users use to connect to the server with.
So if you're using 'ichat.mycompany.com' as your iChat server name, you will need a SSL certificate for 'ichat.mycompany.com'. Or you'll need to turn off SSL.
You can manage SSL certificates via Server Admin.
    VPN says internet connection problem
I assume this is remote clients trying to connect to the server, right?
Have you setup all the port forwarding rules in the router to allow incoming VPN connections to get routed to the server?

  • Port Forwarding Time Capsule With Bridge Mode

Whoever says that the Time Capsule opens all ports if it is in Bridge Mode, it does not.
I have put my Time Capsule in DMZ, firewall disabled, and it is still blocking ports, except for a couple (Apple Filesharing, Telnet,…)
My TC was set up in Bridge Mode as it SHOULD indeed open all ports, but this is not the case, it seems you have to add the ports yourself.
How it works is completely not intuitive and i would even consider it a bug.
Adding the following port configuration opened up the port, even though it was blocked before adding it with the TC in Bridge Mode.
This doesn't seem to work for all ports however, so i am at a loss as to what is going on
I'm using the following site to test the Network ports
    http://www.whatsmyip.org/port-scanner/
If anyone could explain or help out, that would be great
    Kind Regards,
    Cipher

Hi, Thank you both for your continued support!
The main router is from our ISP, it is remotely controlled by our ISP and they will not allow us to access it and adjust/view the configuration ourselves (dumb, i know, but can't be helped), which is why is i went with the DMZ option, as i don't want to keep having to call them, wait and trouble shoot every time a specific port needs to be opened.
That router goes to 2 floors in the building, with a switch on the first floor and another one on the second floor, this second one extends the network to the third floor. My Time Capsule is connected to this switch.
The main router from our ISP has the IP 192.168.254.150 set up to be in DMZ (per request) as well as the, what they call, "soft firewall" disabled.
My Time capsule has it's network setup manually, so it has the static IP mentioned just above, the router is the main router from our ISP
Currently the TC is set up to to share that IP address using DHCP & NAT, where the private IP range identifier is different from the one used by the main router (TC is using 10.0.X.X) resulting in a double NAT, but causing no problem since the IP identifier is different
Ports that need to be forwarded have been mapped in the TC
IPv6 is configured to be setup automatically and it's mode is set to Native
The TC also broadcasts a secure wireless network
My Main Desktop (running OS X Mountain Lion) is connected through ethernet, directly to the TC
I have tried connecting to an external server @ IP XX.XXX.XX.XX on port 7777, but the connection fails
That's pretty much it i think.

  • Moved drive to USB Port on Time Capsule and TM no longer sees backups

I moved my FireWire attached HD from a direct attachment to my Mac Pro to attached via the USB port on my Time Capsule. Time Machine now wants to start over, and does not see the previous backups.
The destination drive name did not change, other than the added NAS address.
Is there a way to force TM to use the previous backup set incrementally instead of starting over?
    Thx

unfortunately, it's not that simple. TM treats backups to directly attached drives differently vs. networked ones.

  • Add air port to time capsule

add air port to time capsule

Which AirPort model will you be adding to the Time Capsule network?
Do you plan to add the AirPort by connecting it using a wired Ethernet connection to the Time Capsule?
    or
Do you plan to add the AirPort by connecting it wirelessly to the Time Capsule?
What operating system are you running on your Mac?

  • Can you expand the number of LAN ports the Time Capsule has?

I have a recently purchased a Time Capsule and am wondering if you could use something like a splicer to add more LAN ports to the device.

You can install a Gigabit Ethernet switch to add as many ports as you need. Switches come in 5-port, 8-port, 16-port etc. varieties.
Why a switch and not a hub?  A switch will deliver full bandwidth to each connected device. A hub will divide or split up the bandwidth to connected devices.
Any electronics / computer superstore will have models to choose from. Recommended brands are Netgear and Cisco, among others.

  • What is the optimum setup arrangement for Time Capsule with an ATT Uverse Router?

I recently installed a Time Capsule in conjunction with my ATT Uverse router.  I read alot of information regarding the setup. Most articles sugessted to disable the ATT router and let the TC handle the router function.  I was hesitant to do so as I feared I might mess my network up.  What I wound up doing was set-up another network using the TC (bridge mode).  I set my iPhone/iPad/Macbook Pro & Apple TV to use the newly created network. My question is this, is this still an optimal setup and am I still able to take advantage of the N network range?

My question is this, is this still an optimal setup
You would need to perform major surgery to try to convert the Uverse gateway to act as if it were a simple modem, and even if it were possible, AT&T would probably not support it. Things should work fine the way you have them setup now.
The Guest Network feature is not available when the TC is configured in Bridge Mode, but otherwise you can use the TC to provide a high quality wireless access point for the network, which is controlled by the Uverse gateway.
am I still able to take advantage of the N network range?
Yes, the TC is providing a dual band wireless network, with optimal "n" speeds. The range on "n" wirelss is not necessarily better ("n" signals are weaker than "g" signals), but "n" does provide faster data transfer speeds.

  • Cannot Finalise HP Setup Assistant after Time Capsule Restore

    Hi all,
I recently had to install a new hard drive on my iMac.
I restored my system using Time Capsule.
I had to re-install my HP software for my LaserJet all-in-one as it would no longer scan.
Un-installed the software then downloaded and re-installed the 10.6 Full Solution from HP website.
HP Setup Assistant launches, detects my printer etc.
But when it gets to the last screen where it is asking me to confirm all my settings, I click Continue and it just hangs. I have to Quit HP Setup App.
I can print fine and scan, however, I can no longer scan using the ADF. It is greyed out in the software.
My feeling is it is because I have not run the HP Setup App correctly.
    My question is:
Is there any kind of hidden HP files I can delete in Finder that may be corrupting and preventing the HP Setup App from working?
    Thanks.

I will try a Clean Install, this should resolve issue.

  • PowerBook G4 not connecting to new Apple network setup up with Time Capsule

I have a MacMini and Macbook Pro which I have successfully setup to work on a home network with my new 500GB Timecapsule. Only the MacBook Pro wirelessly uses Time Machine with the Time Capsule and the MacMini has its own external back-up.
The Problem is I also have an older PowerBook G4 running 10.2.8 so that my daughter can also run older pre-OS X kids programs and my wife uses the wireless internet on it...until now.
Can you explain why my powerbook will not recognize or login to my new Time capsule network when it was working fine on my old linksys wireless-g? I only want internet access...no back-up.

You could have the time capsule set up for 802.11N. If your powerbook is 802.11b/g then it will not connect. You would have to make sure that the times capsule is set up for b/g as well.

  • How do I connect a Canon Selphy CP900 using the USB port on Time Capsule

I am running a MacBook Pro with Mountain Lion (10.8.5) and have installed the CP 900 driver (6.2) supplied by Canon from their website.  I have a Time Capsule set up as a stand alone internal network at my home and use it as a network attched hard drive directly - not via Time Machine.  I can "see" the printer when I connect but cannot print to it.    I open a photo in preview and select the printer and print.
    I get a
    Cannin Selphy CP Generic
connection method not supported message - 9786
The printer does show up in my Print and Scan control panel in System Preferences
I also cannot reach it to check suplies
At the print it dsiplays the printer to computer connection via USB
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks, Asa

    Hi Asa,
I experienced the same error -9786 although I'm not using the time capsule, but only through the wifi.
I did following and resolved the problem.
    1. I re-installed the driver software.
    2. I re-configured the printer settings. (System Preferences - Printers and Scanners - "+" button)
    3. I didn't add the selphy manually, but just I just input "CP" in the searchbox in "Add" dialog, and clicked "OK" button then the printer is set automatically.
    4. I tried pringing a photo from iPhoto and could print correctly.
it looks like the key action is #2 and #3 above, so why don't you give a try?

  • I'm trying to decide what to buy either air port or time capsule. I want a hard drive to save my pictures documents etc. but I want to be able to delete it off my computer but it still stay on my hard drive any advice?

need to decide what to get for a hard drive

Any hard disk drive in a USB enclosure will work with either the Time Capsule or the Extreme.
Don't use Time Machine for archival purposes - that's not what it is designed to do. It's strictly a backup utility.
