Setup Role SAP-XMII-DEVELOPER

Hi all,
In one instance of SAP-MII we have several projects and we need to configure access for developers enabling each person sees only their specific project. Anyone ever done this setup?

I have personally suggested for the idea of Project level security access, and for the concept of sub-projects (be able to have a 'project' identified at a sub folder level in a larger scope project instead of pushing so much to the root node). But I'm an employee, not a customer
I would suggest logging a ticket and getting the request formally entered. If there is a capability restriction because of NetWeaver or NDWI and the way transports work, then it may not be much of a option, or a bit out of direct MII control.

As ABAP guy in SAP-PLM project you be working mostly on Enhancements, Field exist, user Exists and Reports.
There is nothing worry about SAP-PLM, the work you may get is based on customer requirement & scenarios but you will receive the Detail Funcitonal Specification from the PLM Functional Consultant.
As i mentioned the ABAP work is mostly on Field Exists to make some fields mandatories, User Exists, Functional Modules, Enhancements & Reports.

Error during installation SAP SAP NetWeaver Developer Studio

Can somebody help installing SAP SAP NetWeaver Developer Studio?
I get the message:
SAP NetWeaver Developer Studio 2.0.0. Setup Wizard not Completed

It looks like a Windows XP problem, because manually I can't copy or create a file in de directory:
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documenten
So the following directory doesn't exits:
c:\documents and settings\all users\documenten\sap\workspace\.metadata\.plugins\org.eclipse.jdt.launching\
It's weird that I don't have access to the "Documenten" directory (this is the dutch Shared-documents-directory) , because I never changed it.
When I right-click the directory "Documenten", and I go to Properties, then I don't see a tab setting access groups.
How can I get access again to the "Documenten"-directory?

     There is a NW-DS version on the NW4 test drive DVD given out at TechED which I believe was also posted on the ftp.sap.com before TechEd '04 for CeBit 2004. I personally would like to put my vote out there for getting preview versions to the hands of admins to install and kick the tires before we try to convince management to buyin to purchase a product. Another way SAP reduces TCO?

Large difference in the two levels. You need to look at the proper forum here on SDN, and got to SAP site and read the differences in the knowledge levels expected for Associate and Professional. If you're a WebDynpro and WebServices wizard, know some SOA and fluent in OO should have no problems, but you really need to look at the exam content and weighting in SAP certification documentation.

Role of a developer

Hi,
What is the role of a devloper involved in ESA of SAP. To what extent is he expected to understand business processes?
What are the tools he would be using. How much coding he would have to do, and besides web services , what else he would be working on. Is it only java and j2ee?

The role of the developer will be crucial in ESA. What he needs to understand is that given a business process, what are the functionalities that will be required by other applications internally / externally and then develop them as services.
He needs to develop the granular service and keep using else where in his own application. ESA does not necessarily mean web services and it has nothing to do whether its Java / J2EE / ABAP / .Net. If you are coming from SAP R/3 stand point, you need to make sure that you have all the coding that is a part of the business process is available as services.

SAP xMII on a Mac?

I have been able to access SAP xMII pages and development tools on a Mac using Firefox and Safari browsers. And I was able to do some Business Logic Development on a Mac using the Mac OS.
Has anyone ever tried installing SAP xMII on the Mac OS? What web server did you use? Were there any special settings or tweaks that needed to be done?
The curiosity started a couple weeks ago for me while I was at an emerging tech conference in Philly. There, to my surprise, the majority of presenters and attendees were using Macs. I've been on a PC for a number of years, mostly becase of the software that I was using required it (Baan ERP and SAP xMII).

You could try Apache Web Server and Tomcat. I've had them working on multiple platforms, but not the Mac - though it should work fine. The key to making it all work is getting your webapps configured properly and then tweaking the cmsconfig file, located at Lighthammer\WEB-INF\classes.

How to access SAP netweaver development Studio and PDK?

I have access to EP server on my machine with super admin role .Is there any way I can acess SAP netweaver Developer Studio and PDK through EP server or I have to install in my local machine?

You'd want to install the NWDS application locally no matter what (unless everyone has a thin client/citrix connection via dumb terminal). You can however, opt to install a local instance of EP or use a central instance. Here's how I see the two approaches:
1-install the NWDS on developers' machines and deploy to a development instance of EP
PROS:
i-developers can develop locally and only connect to the EP server for deploying/testing
ii-share development (although not very efficiently) and test each others' iViews etc.
iii-demo your work online to business users directly
iv-connect to the corporate SAP R/3 and other ERP systems
CONS:
i-you can only use this while connected to the network
ii-could be slow over a slow/remote network connection
iii-developers may not be able to do everything on the portal server (may not have super admin access)
2-install the NWDS on the developers' PC along with a test EP environment
PROS:
i-develop and deploy locally, without a network connection, anywhere and anytime, fast and efficient
ii-enjoy full access (super admin) to the Portal - to be able to test pretty much everything
CONS:
i-may not be able to connect to the company SAP R/3 and other ERP systems, unless you're connected to the network and have configured the connections
ii-not able to get others to test or demo your development without having to port them to a central EP instance
I think a developer needs every resource they can get, therefore I suggest a combination of the above two scenarios, an instance of EP locally and a central instance of EP for the best of both worlds

Error during Initial setup of functional unit Development Infrastructure

Dear All,
During the template installation of DI all-in-one (Initial setup of functional unit Development Infrastructure (DI all-in-one)) I get an error at Step 64/96 Upload Default ACL Settings.
Error: not a valid URL: unexpected character found [':' at position 7]

I think I know how to solve this. I have just solved a similar problem with my PI 7.1 EHP1. Deployment in JSPM of various software components all failed like this example:
JSPM log:

After that most of the browser based admin apps, such as NetWeaver Administrator ( /nwa ), would refuse to start.
But finally after several tests, searching on SDN+SMP and restore to backup version I found the solution in [SAP Note 1328776|http://service.sap.com/sap/support/notes/1328776] which describes a similar problem: Update to the newest version of ENGINEAPI 7.11. Today this is ENGINEAPI04P_4-20002603.SCA.
You may also want to make sure that you are running the newest version of the Configuration Wizard, so you should check/update LMTOOLS, LMCTC and LMCFG*, currently LMTOOLS04P_3-20002705.SCA, LMCTC04P_1-20002694.SCA and LMCFG04P_4-20002729.SCA.

Installation Guide for SAP NetWeaver Developer Studio 2.0.5

The Sneak Preview Download of SAP NetWeaver on this site also contains the SAP NetWeaver Developer Studio 2.0.5
I am trying to install this version. However, the installation guide provided alongwith this setup refers to the version 2.0.4
I checked on SAP Service Marketplace too. It seems that even SAP has not issued anything for this version.
Any ideas where I can get the relevant installation guide for v2.0.5?

Hello Sagar,
the Installation Guide for the Developer Studio is included in the "How To Install EP 6.0 SP 4 Sneak Preview Edition". But you have only to extract the ZIP File and start the JDTsetup.exe.

Mobile infrastructure Installation with SAP Netweaver Developer Studio

Hello,
I am new to MI field.
I have installed SAP Netweaver Developer Studio 2.04 and assumed, that the MI Client & Server Components are installed with Netweaver too.
Is that correct?
The fact is, that the ports 3601 and 4444 are not accessabled as described in the documentation, and that it is not possible to create a project for mobiles in Netweaver Studio.
I tryed to download MDK 2.5 and install mobile infrastructure manually, but after extraction of MDk 2.5-files there is no setup-program or so.
Any hints and tips are very welcome.

Where did you get the MI client and Server components?
Are they from the NetWeaver04 installation CD? or do u
just download from the trial version of J2EE Engine 6.40 from SDN?
MDK 2.5 is just a set of documentation of guiding developers how to write mobile apps with MI. The SAP
Netweaver Developer Studio already has the MDK Plug-in
comes with it.
If you need to create project for mobile app, you can
do the following in the NW Dev. Studio:
1. Go to File > New > Project...
2. Select "Mobile Development Kit" on the left pane and then select which types of project you want.
3. Then, click "Next" to follow the instructions.

SAP xMII Training in Bangalore

I am working as a Project Engineer (in Bangalore) for iFix (SCADA), iHistorian.
I am very much interested in SAP xMII once i came to know that it is the next level of what i'm presently working on..
Can anybody give some details of the SAP xMII Training in India, like, Date of Training, Schedule of new batch & fees structure, etc.
Other than the above, Any advices?

It would appear that your friendly information source should be able to provide you with details or a contact as to what's happening in Bangalore, but from the looks of it not being on the SAP Education website it does not appear to be a formal course offering. The formal training course should also be 5 days (4.5) so I would guess that this is more of a workshop than a formal training course conducted by SAP Education.
There is no demo license of MII for trial and error learning, but I would encourage you again to make contact with SAP Education through the website to indicate your interest in local training. If the education group does not sense or have expressed interest from customers, partners, etc. I doubt that they will have a full schedule of courses on the calendar.
If you work for an SAP partner then I would recommend that your company get in contact with their SAP partner contact to get more information concerning a valid development license for MII.

Candy,
You will need the 11.5.1 (SP01) install first, which is the full install including ServletExec, etc.
Then once that is up and running the 11.5.4 (SP04) update is all you need to do to have the cumulative rollup.
Your 'lhcms.lic' license file should be there on marketplace as well and simply needs to be placed into the C:\Lighthammer\License\ directory.

Problems with initial setup of Java WebDynpro development environment

I am very new to Java WebDynpro environment. I am trying to setup the J2EE engine and SAP Netweaver Developer Studio on my local machine. I have installed MaxDB, SAP NetWeaver Developer Studio and NW2004s on my local machine. After this I have started my server node from SAPMMC. I have following doubts to be clarified:
1. How do I know the Message Server Port number of the SAPJ2EE engine which needs to be specified in the SAP J2EE engine settings in Developer Studio.
2. How do I make sure that my server process are properly started and running properly?

In my SAPMMC, I am seeing two instances under my server node running in green status. I assume that one is J2EE instance and other in SCS Instance. J2EE instance number is 30 and SCS instance number is 31. I tried to access the links:
http://localhost:53000/index.html and
http://localhost:53100/index.html
I was unable to access both these links. However when I tried to access only
http://localhost/index.html , I got the SAP Web Application Server Homepage. Here on clicking the System Info link, it asks for user/password. The default user/password can be used as Administrator/abc123.
Here I got all the info about my server ports.
For me http port was set as 80 and thatswhy 53000 and 53100 were not working for me.
