Hi There,
Some of users have excel addin or smartview connect to Essbase cube but forget to disconnect. I am wondering if there is property I can setup to logout/disconnect user from Excel addin or smartview after 20 minutes?

In the Essbase server properties, you can set an Idle disconnect time. In EAS select the server name right click and select Edit -> Properties on the security tab is the inactive time out settings. If either value is set to 0 it means never time out. Smartview also has its own timeout value that you can set independently.

ICloud Drive causing timeouts and disconnects when uploading

It seems that iCloud Drive is set to use the maximum upload bandwidth possible when adding files to it. I have a home internet connection with fairly limited upload bandwidth (1Mbps - Time Warner Cable apparently doesn't think there is any need for more than that). When I add files to iCloud Drive and they begin to upload, everything else I am doing online quickly times out and eventually disconnects. As far as I can tell, there isn't any manual control for how much upload bandwidth iCloud Drive can use. Dropbox and other cloud services have such a setting but it seems that Apple has left this out of their offering. Has anyone else experienced this?
It is probably also worth noting that this is the same thing that happens to me when I upload to iTunes Match. It seems that Apple needs to better handle users with limited bandwidth.

Automatically log out idle and disconnected users

Windows Server 2008 R2 Domain.
Im trying to have users that are connected with RDP to other servers and clients to automatically log out if there are idle og disconnected for more than 30 minutes. Im able to get it working if i use computer configuration, but I want this to work under
user configuration, so im not sure what I am doing wrong.
I have configured the following. Created a single GPO on the root of the domain, and put a desktop 7 client in this container. Then i have configured a GPO with the following settings: User Configuration>Policies>Administrative Templates>Windows
Components>Remote Desktop Services>Session Time Limits: Here I have enabled "Set time limit for disconncted sessions", "Set time limit for active but idle...." and "End session when time...."
If i check the GPO, under security filtering i have Authenticated Users, and they have read and apply, and it is linked to the correct OU.
If I now log in to my client and do a gpupdate /force log out and in again, I can see the GPO is not applied correct. The strange thing is that is named under Computer Settings> The following GPOs were not applied because they are filtered out.. here
is my GPO and reason is "Not applied (Empty). Under User settings there is no such GPO applied...
I thought that it should have been under user settings .... if i configure the GPO as a computer settings it works.... but should not this also work for users ?

It will come means, you will find the settings at the mentioned path. That's for terminal session can be applied on servers not necessarily only for Terminal servers.
Best practice is to add security group in the security filter. But yes if you have less number of users, you can add them directly.

Um, there is no such thing as NAS4.1.
I'm assuming that you mean NAS4.0 (maybe NAS4.0sp1?). If so, then the session timeouts are specified in the session section of the NTV configuration files.
AFAIK, you can specify session timeouts on a per user basis.

AFP disconnects users, file opening problems, abnormal exits and bus errors

Hi all
Since a few weeks we have been having problems with AFP file sharing with OS X Server 10.5.5 (Simple config)
Several times a day the server stops responding to save commands (especially with Adobe software) or abruptly disconnects users. The console error most frequently associated with these crashes is:
"com.apple.launchd[1] (com.apple.AppleFileServer[3674]) Exited abnormally: Bus error"
sometimes starting server preferences we get the following error (roughly translated from French):
An Error has occured on the server while executing a command.
the error "CANNOTFSGETVOLINFOERR" occured while executing a command of type "getVolumeList" in the module "servermgr_filebrowser"
I'm past hoping for a quick fix but any pointers or ideas of what to look for would be greatly appreciated.

disable the automounts in 'Filesharing' in Server Admin
I disable the automounts in the File Sharing tab of Server Admin by clicking on each share point and clicking the Unshare button.
then remove the sharepoints
How? Isn't that automatic? I chose to unshare a share point and it disappeared from the list. Is that enough?
Then in Terminal.app do:
sudo rm /private/var/etc/AFP.conf
Then:
sudo rm /Library/Preferences/com.apple.AppleFileServer.plist
Then in Server Admin, restore the sharepoints back and automounts. Then restart the AFP service.
I restore the share points by manually choosing to share each of them again? I'll have to redefine each one, won't I?

Wireless users facing frequent connection and disconnection

Hi,
I am running 5508 controller with version 7.0 and 1141 access points.. I am facing a problem on user connectivity.
Wireless Users are getting frequent connection and disconnection. These users are not getting connected to the access point nearby although this access point is up and running. I ahve tried reducing the power level, configured the AP after resetting it. But nothing helps.
Has anybosy faced this issue ? May i know what could be the reason for this??

I just got an Ipod Classic and when i try to sync it it syncs half then deletes it all and disconnects

Whenever i plug my Ipod Classic (new) into my computer it says Sync in progress, then switches to "OK to disconnect" after loading about 40 songs on, and then deleting them off the Ipod. What's going on? All the computer says is "cannot load songs, unknown error occured."

To help in troubleshooting,
What is your iTunes version?
What is your iPod firmware number, as shown on the Itunes summary page?
You problem is iTunes timeout the sync process because there is no response from the iPod. Possible causes
iPod Hardisk malfunctioning.
Antivirus scanning
Other USB devices, using up the USB resource
iPod connected to USB 1.1 port instead of High Power USB2.0 Port
IPod connected to USB Hub.
Windows plugins or Malware using up CPU resource.
Whenever you sync or Restore the IPod, connect the iPod to the Back panel USB 2.0 port, disconnect all other USB devices except the mouse, and disconnect from Internet, stop your antivirus.
But if the above doesn't work, bring it back to Apple , since it is under warranty.
You can also do a Disk Diagnostic as posted regularly by tt2, to check your Hardisk, it wont fix the problem but help you decide what to do.

The DD is for all users, Windows and Mac, so don't concern yourself that tt2 is responding to a Mac user.

RADIUS (NGS) is not disconnecting users

Hi,
I have a guest network set up on a WLC with an external RADIUS server (NAC Guest Server). However when the time profile expires (user account expires) on NGS the active user is not disconnected.
Now if the user logs off the guest network (either using the logout window or via the idle/session timeout) and tries to log back in they correctly get an error message when they try and log back in on the portal. The issue is that active users are not getting foraceably logged off the guest network.
I'm sure i've seen this issue referenced somewhere before but I couldnt find it.

the key point is that Radius is an authentication that happens when the client connects. The Radius server cannot take actions unless it is contacted in the first place so a radius server cannot kick users.
This is "too bad" and yes things are coming to change that. The new versions of IOS switches start to support "Radius Change of Authorization" that allows the radius server to kick people on demand etc ... But that's not yet there.
The session timeout is the time for which the WLC leaves the client in peace before asking for a reauthentication.
For a WPA SSID, the client laptop will automatically reprovide credentials after timeout usually so it's a smooth reauthentication. But for guest, if the authentication method is a login page, the user will have to re-enter his credentials and if he was doing a file transfer, that got interrupted so that's not cool to set a very small session timeout.
So you have to decide I'm afraid to set a session timeout of 2 hours let's say, time that you find acceptable to have to reauthenticate again. This means that the clients will definitely not be able to have network access 2 hours (maximum ! once their NGS user account expires, they will be kicked at the next reauthentication which happens between 0 and 120 minutes later) after their account expired.

Use a Timer class of Framework library to have an explicit control over
the connection. If the end-of-stream marker is not received within a
specified interval of time, handle the situation.
ExternalConnection class does not have any timeout feature of its own,
but it would be a good idea to have one in future.

I am working on a Forte service that uses a socket listener (implemented
using the ExternalConnection class) to handle incoming messages. The
messages vary in length, so the code for processing each connection
loops until it finds an end-of-stream marker. If some client is
erroneously sending messages without the marker, it'll loop forever. I
would like the connection to time out if it doesn't receive any valid
messages within a fixed length of time. Is there some functionality
I've overlooked in ExternalConnection that would handle this? If not,
does anybody have an example of a good way to implement it?

Just wanted to check in and see if anyone here has feedback on application settings, ColdFusion settings, JBOSS settings or other settings that could help to limit or remove SQL Timeouts and blocking locks on SID's.
We're using MS SQL 2000 with JBOSS and IIS5.
We've been seeing the following error in our logs that starts blocking locks in SQL:
java.sql.SQLException: [newScale] [SQLServer JDBC Drive] [SQLServer] Lock request time out period exceeded.
Once this happens, we're hosed until we remove the blocking SID in SQL. These are the connections to the application.

Thank you- I have read through that thread and can see some resonance with my issue.
My AOL emails work VERY fast with BB, in fact almost simultaneously received on PC & Torch " ping ping!"
This issue only raised its ugly head when I had 2 Torches replaced by my insurers.
Whilst the claim was in process I used a new Curve, loaded from backup on PC to keep emails going and of course phone & web facilities. ( I use the BB to power internet via bluetooth to my PC / laptop when living on a remote island with no phone lines or power supplies) All was fine. Swapping email accounts took a few minutes with the usual password confirmations for each AOL screenname etc.
Then the new Torches came back from insurers, and I tried to swap devices. Phoning & texting is fine. Al data and contacts swap over fine.
SETUP email accounts.............stymied every time. It says repeatedly that my user name/password is invalid etc etc etc
Have tried security wipes. Have tried setting up new BB ID & passwords on PC website. All is OK until I try to setup emails on the Torches. This has used up ridiculous amounts of time- all wasted.
I love the BB phones and the fast email push......in fact I recently bought a new Sony Xperia Z1 but sent it back because of wifi coverage meant no emails on that superb phone for lots of the time.
Good old BB I said..........I always get emails wherever I am. ( Rural Scotland has very patchy radio & wifi coverage)
Was about to purchase new Z10s just to get a bigger screen, but now I am averse to buying ANY BB phone again because this present mess means I may never get emails set up again. How nuts is that?

Session timeout and Custon login module

Dev Platform: Jdev 10.1.3.4.0, Oracle 10.2.4
I'm trying to trap the session timeout and display a page. I'm using the code below from Frank Nimphius. I've also provided a console log of what is happening when the application times out. Instead of the filter being called the system is calling the dblogin module and attempting to login the anonymous user. I renamed the anonymous user and I just see log entries where the system attempted to find the anonymous user.
If I use the application to logout I get a Logout page with a button to confirm the logout. When I press the button the session is invalidated and the filter code brings up my "Session Timeout" notification page. This isn't what will happen in the end but I just wanted to tell you that the filter does work in certain instances.
How can I make the system not attempt to login the anonymous user and have the filter code run?

Notice that the session Id in each case is IDENTICAL. That is why the Filter code isn't doing what it is intended to do. Whay is the same session ID being created after it is destroyed? Is there a configuration parameter that controls it?

Session Timeout and DAD Authentication

My application uses the authentication scheme 'No authentication (using DAD)'. The users log in from an external program and the user IDs are captured in the variable remote_user. My authorization scheme checks that the user ID exists in a database table. All this seems to work fine.
However, I need to implement a session timeout on the application. I've followed the steps described in the "Automatic Session Timeouts" utility in the Application Express Studio but when I tried to modify the authentication scheme by adding:
return auth_pkg.check_timeout;
to the Session Verify Function I got the following errors:
No functional attributes may be set when page sentry function is '-DATABASE-'.
and
Session verification function may not be specified if page sentry function is specified.
I'm new to Apex and I don't know where to go from here. Any advice please?

Maria,
The usual way to do the authentication part is to use a custom page sentry function. Many examples have been posted on the forum based on the ntlm page sentry code. Search for those keywords here (ntml page sentry) and you should find it easily. Then you can modify it by adding the session timeout logic in that function.

You can't merge Apple IDs. What you could do is set up your phone to use the same iCloud accout you are using on your Mac. To do this, go to Settings>iCloud and turn all synced data (Contacts, Calendars, etc.) to Off. When prompted, choose to keep the data on the phone. When everything is off, scroll to the bottom and tap Delete Account. Now add the iCloud account you set up on your Mac (with the same Apple ID) and turn syncing back on for Calendars, Contacts, etc. When prompted, you will probably want to choose merge, to merge the data on your phone with the existing data on this iCloud account.
