Several different problems...e3000

I recently bought a e3000 router to replace my old Linksys Wireless-G router.  The only reason I replaced it is because I got some Wireless-N devices...anyway...the first problem is that I have to stand the router up on it's side or it won't work.  When I lay it down flat on the table, it will lose all connections in short order.  This drove me crazy for awhile, but I eventually touched the bottom of the router and found that it was quite hot.  Since setting it up on it's side, it no longer exhibits that behavior.  Now the problem is that it consistently drops connection with my laptop and droid phone.  When it doesn't drop the connection, it gets incredibly slow, and I then have to reconnect to the router.  
I am quite irritated about this.  My last linksys router worked great all the time, so going by that I bought another linksys.  I looked to see if there was newer firmware (there isn't).  If someone could help me I would appreciate it.  I am very comfortable configuring the router manually, and have no problem doing so.  I appreciate your time.

OK.  Like I said the other day, I reflashed the firmware and reset the router.  Hooked it up today, and set things up through the browser.  It worked fine with everything for about an hour and a half, and then I went out for a few hours.  When I came home, nothing I had would connect and nothing I did made anything successfully connect to the router.  I power cycled the router a couple times, and that didn't help either.  I also had the router leaned up on it's side so it wouldn't overheat.  All the lights were normal.  I am quite confused about this.  I paid over $150 for this thing, can no longer return it for a refund and am almost at a loss as to what to do. 
As far as the settings I set, pretty much everything standard.  Setup one channel for just Wireless-N and one just for Wireless-G.  Set passwords for both.  WPA2 security on each one.  Nothing I would think is in anyway extreme or that should make absolutely nothing be able to connect to the router.
Can anyone give me some suggestions?

    If that doesn't help you can try a cleaning disc, or a shot of compressed air but chances are good that your optical drive has failed. You can either replace it or buy an inexpensive external unit (but not Apple's as it won't work on macs with a built in drive working or not).

  • Windows Explorer was crashing/restarting every few seconds and after trying several different methods of fixes, the only one that worked was removing Firefox, is there something I've missed that I can get Firefox back?

    I'm running a Toshiba Satellite laptop that was originally running Windows Vista 32-bit, but was upgraded by me to Windows 7 32-bit. On Windows Vista, all I would run was Firefox. I loved it!!! On Windows 7, I've noticed that Firefox kept hanging whenever I would try to download a file...from anywhere. I got so frustrated I went to try several different browsers. They all worked extremely quickly, whereas Firefox was working so slow, I could click on a link to a page, go get some lunch, come back and it still be trying to load the page. This was drastically unusual for Firefox. I used the other browsers and everything was fine for a week and then Windows Explorer started going down every few seconds. I went to the windows 7 forums and started looking. There were several suggestions on how to fix the problem, none of which worked for my compy. I tried restarting the compy in safe mode. That didn't help. I turned off every startup program except for the essentials and that DID work in keeping Windows Explorer from restarting. I then dove into the tedious task of trying to discern which 3rd party program was the offender. I removed everything from my compy that had been downloaded in the last ten days (well before the windows explorer issue, but not before the firefox issue). That didn't work either. I tried replacing an explorer file, which didn't work either. There were several other things I tried, as well, but nothing worked. Then, I saw a post that Firefox had caused the problem for one person. I went in and did as was suggested and completely removed Firefox and all associated files. Unfortunately, this worked. I haven't had any more trouble with windows explorer restarting. My big problem is, however, I can't run Firefox!!! And I LOVE Firefox!!! It's spoiled me! I hate Internet explorer, which is what I'm forced to run now. I've tried Safari and Google Chrome and don't like either one of those, either. I want my Firefox back! But if it's not working 100% it's less frustrating to be forced to live with the Internet Explorer. I'm going insane, here! Does anyone have any suggestions? I tried clearing out browser history, changing download files and a couple of other things and nothing worked with the Firefox to get it going better before I started having the Windows Explorer difficulty and had to completely erase the Firefox program. If I've missed any info, please don't hesitate to ask!! I'm happy to supply whatever I know about the issue!!

    uninstalled firefox ....deleted all files still remaining under mozilla firefox directory in program files ... to avoid having to reprogram all my settings, reisntall all addons as well .. I did not remove anything from mozilla firefox that is stored in either appdata or under the windows users directory (if any)
    ... the as suggested reinstalled the latest version of the firefox browser using the link you provided in the email ..; tested and several issues still remain present and unresolved ....
    so please this is urgent or I will have to jump browsers and start using chrome .. because we work 14 hours a day 6 (sometimes 7) days a week, to get ready for the launch of our newest venture and we cannot lose that much days on browser related issues ... so please instead of putting me through week long step process .. of do this .. do that .. can you please actually look into the issue from your end .. I use firefox for so many, many years thta I deserve this kind of support .. thnx Robert

    - Try cleaning out/blowing out the headphone jack. Try inserting/removing the plug a dozen times or so.
    Try the following to rule out a software problem
    - Reset the iPad. Nothing will be lost
    Reset iPad: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
    least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
    Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
    All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory settings/new iPod.
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store. Seems you have a bad headphone jack.

  • Photosmart Premium frustration-3 different problems so far

    Problem 1) I have a new Photosmart Premium all in one. I was unable to do a wired connection, as the computer (Windows XP) would not recognize it when I followed the install instructions to the T. Tried troubleshooting-disconnecting cables and connecting when prompted, restarting printer and computer, but nothing worked.  I tried using the add a printer sequence in XP (deleting the old printer it replaced) and I added the new one, but it still would not recognize it-said it wasn't connected. So I tried doing the wireless set up and had no problem with installation.  It still bothers me however that wired isn't an option, as wireless routers do wear out and I will have no back-up.
    Problem 2) When printing photos using Photoshop Elements, it will not give me the option of choosing print photo options, only everyday printing works on printing full letter-size page (using several different layout configurations). I'm not sure I'm getting the benefit of having a photo printer if I can only set it for regular print jobs.The photos look okay though.
    Problem 3) This one is VERY frustrating and I did search the website and board for answers before posting. When I have it print the first photo, it will whir and click several times, say it is printing and produce nothing but a line on photo paper page (wasting it) and then immediately spit out 3-5 blank pages. Sometimes if I start over again, it will print well. Other times, it takes 3-4 attempts. Very frustrating, as I'm not changing anything, just doing same thing over and over until it decides to print it.  I'm very disappointed in this printer, as I have had HP printers in the past and have had no problems. Should I exchange it for an Epson? Any suggestions would be appreciated, especially on this 3rd issue.

    I understand your concern with not having a backup if the wireless option has problems in the future. I've attached a link for Installing SW in Windows XP for USB connection that I hope will be of help.
    As regards the issue with Photoshop Elements - do you have the option for Photo or Best printing when in other applications, such as Word or Powerpoint? Or is it just in Photoshop Elements?
    For the third issue you've described, try clearing whatever's in the print queue and then reprint. Does this solve it?

  • Severe buffering problems when streaming

    In the past couple of days, I have begun experiencing severe buffering problems when streaming video on the web. The video plays for like 6 seconds and then it pauses for like 6 seconds and continues this pattern over and over. This problem occurs regardless of which web browser I am using. I know the problem is not caused by the internet connection because I did a speed test and it is currently operating at 12mbps.  I have tried streaming video on another computer and it worked fine.

    Intermittent problems are often a result of interference. Interference can be caused by other networks in the neighbourhood or from household electrical items.
    You can download and install iStumbler (NetStumbler for windows users) to help you see which channels are used by neighbouring networks so that you can avoid them, but iStumbler will not see household items.
    Refer to your router manual for instructions on changing your wifi channel or adjusting your multicast rate.
    There are other types of problems that can affect networks, but this is by far the most common, hence worth mentioning first. Networks that have inherent issues can be seen to work differently with different versions of the same software. You might also try moving the Apple TV away from other electrical equipment.

    That is a Kernal Panic, your dealer may be right. See if it does it trying below.
    Could be many things, but it's best to start with these two steps, which may fix it also...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Tiger Mac OS X Install disc , then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, *you must select your language first.)*
    *Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Click the disclosure triangle to the left of the hard drive icon to display the names of your hard disk volumes and partitions.
    5. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    6. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    Then Safe Boot , (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it finishes.
    Safe Boot... holding Shift key down at bootup. Safe Boot is a special way to start Mac OS X 10.2 or later when troubleshooting.

    Have you booted off the Install Disk by holding the *d key* down at boot-up, (not the c key), and run the extended Apple HW Test? Some Install disks require holding the Option key at bootup to select the AHT. Some Macs came with separate AHT CDs.

  • I bougt a new  Macbook pro in 02/26/2013, in  11/25/ 2013, my trackpad become bulging, they exchange the trackpad, but not the bulging battery.  I went there yesterday, with different problem, and they said one screw  came off from the  truckpad again!

    I bought a new  Macbook pro in 02/26/2013 from Apple Canadian Ices -003.  Than I could not use it, because  my cursor uncontrollably  was jumping around the screen, I was  resumed my trackpad become bulging, Than on11/25/ 2013 they changed my trackpad for free, because was manufactoring defect,  but not the bulging battery.  They said that is do not needed.  Since that my cursor is quiet often quivering, I think my Macbook has serious  manufacturing defect. But they said no, during a year period I went to  the genius bar at least 15 times, with this and similar problems.   I went there yesterday, with different problems, and they said one of the screws  came off from my   truck pad, therefore they need to fix it and change it.  I said: -  What,  how, what  is the real problem?  A screw does not comes off just like that?  They will change my trackpad again, but not the battery. They said  has to rebuild the operation system, I'm  saving all of my data right now! I would like to exchange the battery too, or maybe get a new Macbook. My Macbook is 2010 China model. How long I would have this trackpad  problem? What are you suggesting?

    If it's a 2010 as you say towards the end of your post, it's out of warranty. The battery isn't covered in that case. Why don't you just buy a new battery if that's your concern? If it's a 2013 as you say up at the top, it shouldn't have a bulging battery. How do you know it does? If it really does, ask for the store manager and explain the problem.

    If you select the tracks all together in iTunes/ Songs then go to File/Get info you will be asked "Are you sure you want to edit information for multiple items?" Go ahead and you can make them into an album, putting in the artist name, etc.

  • ITunes 12 is making 1 album become several different albums with the same tracks.  How do I combine them again?

    I had an issue in past versions of iTunes, where I would rip a CD and, for some reason, iTunes would turn it into several different CDs instead of just one, even though everything about the album was the same (as in same artist, same album name, same year, etc).  It seems as though that issue has returned and one album with 6 tracks is now 3 albums (1 album has 1 song, another has 2 and the third has 3).  Yet, it's all the same album.  I re-entered the data for the album name and artist, but it doesn't work like the previous versions.  Anyone have any ideas why this is happening (other then bugs) or how to fix it?

    Apple's official advice is here... HT2905 - How to find and remove duplicate items in your iTunes library. It is a manual process and the article fails to explain some of the potential pitfalls.
    Use Shift > View > Show Exact Duplicate Items to display duplicates as this is normally a more useful selection. You need to manually select all but one of each group of identical tracks to remove. Sorting the list by Date Added may make it easier to select the appropriate tracks, however this works best when performed immediately after the dupes have been created.  If you have multiple entries in iTunes connected to the same file on the hard drive then don't send to the recycle bin. This can happen, for example, if you start iTunes with a disconnected external drive, then connect it, reimport from your media folder, then restart iTunes.
    Use my DeDuper script if you're not sure, don't want to do it by hand, or want to preserve ratings, play counts and playlist membership. See this thread for background. Please take note of the warning to backup your library before deduping, whether you do so by hand or using my script, in case something goes wrong.

  • Can I print several different pics of the same size on one shee  of papert?

    I should like to print a group of several different pics of the same size & resolution on one sheet of (A4) paper eg 6 family photos. There doesn't seem to be a template for this - just two choices of format (both with one large and a few smaller format) and there is no 'Printer' pop up menu.
    I tried to laboriously copy pics to a two column works word processing document (after resizing in a different one so that they would fit in the columns). This is time consuming and when down sizing the pics lose resolution!
    Maybe I can download templates somewhere on the apple site as suggested by apple care but I couldn't find out where. Maybe there is a possibility of doing some contact prints?

    Select the 6 photos you want printed in the iPhoto Library or Album window.
    Choose File->Print.
    In the Print dialog box, Select the paper size in the Paper popup menu.
    In the Style popup menu, select N-Up.
    In the Photos per page popup select 6.
    The preview should show what you'll get. I hope its what you wanted.

    At first my computer had issues. Once it go to sleep it will not back again. I dropped my laptop at apple store to fix it. After 10  days they returned my laptop saying they were no able to fix the problem so they replaced motherboard aiming if that might help. Acttually that didn't help.I had same issue again. I visited apple store again. This time they said they could fix, if I will allow them to format the harddrive. I said ok. They formatted it. It was working fine for few daysAfter few days compter is taking.even more than 15 min to shutdown. Now computer has another problem. It is being hang frequently like every 20'to.30 min.
    I don't know what to do? I still have one month left on first year warranty. I have requested couple times to apple associates either to fix or replace or refund. They are showing me rude behavior. They are not understanding my situation. I am a student. I need to do lot of home work. Since last three month my mac book and apple associates giving me hard time. Any suggestions are welcome.

    Contact Apple Customer Care - not Apple Care - Customer Support. Have your receipts handy and/or case numbers. Be patient, be calm, and tell your story just as you have here. I get the sense you are not in the US and don't have access to an Apple Store but are going to an independent shop. This makes using Customer Support all the more important. If phoning isn't viable, use registered mail.
    Since time is running short, be prepared to purchase AppleCare to exennd your warranty 2 more years. Yes, you shouldn't have to do this, but it gives you added protection and more opportunities over the next 2 years to claim a replacement computer if you don't get one immediately. After dealing with a similar unhappy situation with a Mac in the late 1990s I finally got a replacement computer and reimbursed for the AppleCare policy.
