Several folders with pictures !!!

I have in my hard drive folder for every year and every event possible each year. How can I import all the pictures and still maintain all the same folders within the years and events?

srestrepo
There are two ways to do this.
1. Leave your file system as it is by going to iPhoto -> Preferences -> Advanced and uncheck 'Copy Files to iPhoto Library Folder...'
This means that your file system is unchanged. Your photos are imported to the database and iPhoto will however create a Data folder and a Modified folder in the iPhoto Library Folder. The Data folder will contain the thumbnails needed to display the pics in the iPhoto Window, the modified folder will contain any pics that you alter or edit.
The downside is that if you delete a photo from iPhoto you will have to delete manually from your structure. Also, you will not be able to import photos directly into iPhoto from your camera, but will have to copy them onto the HD first.
2. The other option is to let iPhoto do the file management, allow it to copy the files into the iPhoto Library Folder and re-create your file structure within iPhoto. You can do this quite quickly by dragging the folders to the Source (or left-hand) pane. iPhoto will create albums of each of the folders. So if you have a folder called 2001, with 12 folders inside for each month, then drag the January folder to the Source Pane and name the album. When you have the 12 months inported, then create a folder in iPhoto to enclose them.
Most people try to maintain there own folder structure because they are afraid that they will not be able to find a particular pic if they need it. However there are three ways (at least) to get files from the iPhoto Window.
1. Drag and Drop: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
2. File -> Export: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size.
3. Show File: Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.
I hope this is of help. If you need more please post again.

  • Folders of picture scans won't copy

I have several folders of pictures, scans of slides, when I try to move the folder to copy to anothr hard drive it just freezes. I tried disk utility, disk warrior, techpro all of these say the folder and items are fine. They open fine but won't copy. Why? Can I force this issue? How?

    James:
Download and run BatChmod on the folder containing the files with the settings shown here, putting your administrator login name, long or short, in the owner and group sections. You can either type in the path to the folder or just drag the folder into that field. Then see if you can move them. Disk Utility primarily repairs permissions on applications and system files.
Another test would be to boot into Safe Mode and then see if you can move the files. If you can then there's something that's getting loaded when you boot normally that's the culprit.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Proplems syncing some folders of pictures to iPhone

I have several folders of pictures sync'd to my iPhone and all is good there but there are couple of folders that just will not sync.  I check them and "apply" but after the sync some folders just do not show up on the phone.  I have tried unchecking, syncing and repeating the process.  I have plenty of space on the iphone so that is not an issue either.  Any help would be much appreciated.

Selected Folders will only appear if you have sub-folders created under the folder that is selected to be synced.
e.g.  You have a AAAA folder with sub-folders BBBB, CCCC, DDDD, EEEE within folder AAAA.  So if you have selected AAAA folder to be synced then choose All Folders. All photos under AAAA, BBBB, CCCC, DDDD, EEEE will be synced over to your Device and you will have BBBB, CCCC, DDDD, EEEE appeared as albums on your Devices.
If you have chosen Selected Folders, then BBBB, CCCC, DDDD, EEEE will appear under it to allow you to select one or more of these folders to be synced.
There is no option for you to select folders all over your hard drive to be synced,
    Hope the above explains.

  • I have several albums I downloaded and Itunes it shows up in several albums with several songs in one folder and several in others

I have downloaded several albums that show up in several folders with the same name but only a few songs in each folder.  How do I get them all in one folder?  It would be nice if you could just click, drag and drop in one folder.  I am so frustrated with trying to figure it out, I am ready to just buy a cheap MP3 player and moth ball this Ipod!

Generally setting a common Album Artist will fix things.
For deeper problems see Grouping tracks into albums.

set the wake-on lan on the main computer
The laptop's too far away from the router to be connected by ethernet. It's all wifi.
No separate server app on the laptop, it's all samba
The files are on a windows laptop and a hard drive hooked up to the windows laptop. The windows share server is pants, so I'd need some sort of third party server running. Maybe you weren't suggesting to use Samba to connect to the windows share though?
I'm glad that you've all understood my ramblings and taken and interest, thanks The way I see it, I can't be the only netbook user these days looking for this kind of convenience, and I certainly won't be once chrome and moblin hit the market.

I have my photos in folders with subfolders on my pc  When I sync to my Ipad I only get the main folder but not the subfolders.  All pictures that are in the subfolders are synced but in no order.  I checked to sync all folders.  Help!

    Thanks for your reply.
Does that mean that as its just another way of accessing my photos then it does not increase double up on memory ? In my photo library after repeated sycs on my IP 4 there appear to be 3 identical pictures in a row sometime just 2, why would this be if its just another way of accessing my pics, this confuses me.

  • Severe Problem with iPhoto '09

I have s severe problem with my iPhoto. It crashes when I open it and I can't force quit it. I will get the prompt to send apple the crash log, but the application stays open and I'm not able to restart (if I try apple-control-power the mouse freezes).
This is what I have been trying so far:
When I create a new Library with now pictures it works. If then I import my old pictures it crashes some times in between the import task.
If I rebuild the library it crashes also while doing the thumbnails.
I guess it must be some JPGs that are broken, but I wonder why this can be so severe that it crashes the whole system afterward. I have also noticed that I can't copy parts of the iPhoto library, because then the Finder crashes (stops while copying and going on forever. If I want to cancel copying it won't. Also here now way to restart without pressing the power button 5 secs.)
    I'd appreciate your help

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
To create and populate a new library:
Note this will give you a working library with the same Events and pictures as before, however, you will lose your albums, keywords, modified versions, books, places, faces, calendars etc.
Move the damaged iPhoto Library to the desktop
Launch iPhoto. It will ask if you wish to create a new Library. Say Yes.
In the iPhoto Preferences -> Events Uncheck the box at 'Imported Items from the Finder'
Go into the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) on your desktop and find the Originals folder. From the Originals folder drag the individual Event Folders to the iPhoto Window and it will recreate them in the new library. Drag in the Event Folders one Folder at a time, and this way you’ll soon find the Event or individual jpegs that are causing the issue.
When you're sure all is well you can delete the iPhoto Library on your desktop.

  • Create folders with multiple language support

How can folders be created supporting multiple languages?
I am using Mac OS X with English as my native language. As I would like to have several folders named in Japanese this causes some trouble: It is no problem to name them using Japanese characters, but if I navigate through these folders using the Terminal as I often do the names will only appear like "???????????????????" even if I use 'export LCALL="jaJP.UTF-8"' to get right character interpretation for the Terminal. There must be an alternative name support for folders as I tried to create folders while I switched to Japanese as my native language for Mac OS X and all standard user folders switched to Japanese language. In the Terminal these folders still appear in international English language. And also when I copy those folders to an external hard drive the multiple language support will stay alive. But I still didn't find out how new folders created by myself will get multiple language support. Any hints?
    Thanks in advance.

Unfortunately I have to switch between Romaji and Hiragana/Katakana input method every time I have to spell japanese folder names. (Tab completion doesn't work at all for these folders.)
Sorry, I don't understand what you mean there. Where are you spelling the names? In Terminal?
Yes, I meant typing Japanese characters in the Terminal. It works but it's very uncomfortable as shortcuts to switch the input method don't work while writing commands in the Terminal. Standard folders like "Documents", "Pictures" etc. appear in English in the Terminal even if the localization has been switched to an other language. (So there is no need to switch the input method while working in the Terminal.)
In case the folders are stored on an external drive (even if it's fat) and it's plugged in on another computer they appear in English likewise.
Self created folders normally won't have this ability. But to customize this behaviour is exactly what I am looking for. I guess the information about the "international aliases" must be in a hidden file or something like that.
That must certainly be part of the localization system for the OS. Here is some info:
    http://developer.apple.com/internationalization/localization/tools.html
Thank you for the link, first I'll explore the tools. Maybe I'll find some useful information.
I'll return as soon as I need help again or if I found what I am searching for.
    Thank you so far.

  • Exporting Folders/Albums/Pictures Structure

I recently downloaded iPhoto Buddy to help me organize my 6000+ picture and 200+ video clip iPhoto Library (well over 10GB), that takes at least 2 minutes to load, and I of course have a very large and fairly complicated directory structure. I need to be able to export top level folders, with all sub-folders, albums, pictures and video retained from my current huge library into several smaller libraries.
I know that I could just copy all of the pictures into the different folders and then go in and delete the pics that don't belong there, but that would take forever, and unless there is no other way I don't want to have to do that.

<table><tr><td align=left bgcolor="#FFFFCC">I know that I could just copy all of the pictures into the different folders and then go in and delete the pics that don't belong there, but that would take forever, and unless there is no other way I don't want to have to do that.</td></tr></table>
Is the following what you don't want to do?
1 - make a duplicate of your current iPhoto library and name the folder with an appropriate descriptive name.
2 - use iPhoto Buddy to launch it as a new library and delete those items in it that you don't want.
3 - repeat for other sub-libraries with a specific content.
(Wasn't sure if this was the same as what you described)
Another possible solution would be to obtain iPhoto Library Manager and using it create a new, empty library and then copy selected albums, rolls, etc. from the old library to the new one. It will preserve keyword, comments, etc. You'll need to purchase the full version to get those capabilities.
Hope this has been of some help. Good luck.

  • Is there ANY way to "drop" several videos or pictures at once (like an entire folder) instead of pai

Is there ANY way to "drop" several videos or pictures at once (like an entire folder) instead of painstakingly dropping/dragging one image at a time? I just opened my Adope Premiere Elements 9 and after "working with" for 9 hours, I can't figure it out! Is there a singular CLEAR guide or video out there that teaches newbies like me how to do BASICS like this? Extremely exasperated. On verge of returning to my Windows Live Movie Maker but you all likely know how frustrating THAT is.... Please help me.

    lifelearner
How long have you been working with Premiere Elements 9.0/9.0.1 and on what computer operating system?
Take a look at the Premiere Elements 9 Help PDF for starter before you invest in books and such.
    http://help.adobe.com/archive/en_US/premiereelements/9/premiereelements_9_help.pdf
    On to the immediate issue....
When you "Get Media" Files and Folders, be aware that you can import folders with the format supported photos/videos inside.
Then go immediately to Organize header/ and Project in row below and click on Project.
You should see your folder there.
    a. You can drag it to the Timeline and have your photos/videos open on the Timeline
    b. You can manage folder opening and closing with the icons at the bottom left of the Project area where you see
    your imported files.
If you are at the point where you already have your Project area loaded with lots of individual imports, you can create folders
there and drag your photos/videos into different folders. But, we aware that you can drag folder or individual files
    from Project onto the Timeline.
Does any of the above help? If so, I will know I am going in the right direction for what you want to know.
What is with the painstakingly dropping/dragging one image at a time? Just how many images are in this project?
We are glad for the opportunity to help.
Looking forward to your follow up.
    Thanks.

  • When saving a File OS Is Creating Multiple Folders With The Same File Name

Not sure what I changed but, now when I save a any file (ppt. word, Keynote,Pages e.g.,) to the desktop or any other location the OS will also create multiple file folders with the same file name as the file I'm saving. Inside the folders are what appears to be files locating the saved files. What can I do to fix this problem?
    I'm using the 10.7.2 version
    MacBook Pro

It looks like a finder bug. To replicate, I surf to any website, I right-click on a jpg image, select "Save Image As" and in the window that pops up I type in the filename "000.jpg", I select the folder Pictures, and click on Save.
BTW, I don't know why, but the file was saved only as "000" without the file extension ".jpg". Does anybody know why?
the extension is simply hidden. go to the get info panel for the file and uncheck the option to hide the extension.
Then I surf to another image, and again I save it as "000.jpg" and now it asks me if I want to replace the existing filename, although the existing one is "000" and I try to save as "000.jpg", so I say yes, and then magically the file is saved with the full filename including the extension "000.jpg"
When I did it a couple of times, always saving image as "000.jpg" from various sources, I ended up with two distinct files named "000" and both in the same folder Pictures.
    Please advise.
it sounds to me like you saved one file as 000.jpg and the other and 000.jpg.jpg.
check the info panels for the files for full names to verify if this is the case.

Not supported by Apple. The only photos that can be imported from an iPhone are photos in the camera roll.

Then same for column 3 find place holder named Entry B and replace.

  • Bridge copy and paste folders with the same name question

I just copied and pasted a folder named, as an example, "concerts" with a bunch of pictures to another drive with a folder with the same name.
I choosed "substitute" when prompted and all the pics existing in old "concerts" folder have been deleted and replaced with just the new ones.
So pasting a folder can't add files to the folder with the same name, but it completely replaces it. The other prompted option creates a "concerts (1)" new folder.
Luckyly before moving files I always do a backup, so it's not a big issue, but I'm amazed by such behaviour. Also deleted pictures don't appear in the recycle bin. They are completely lost!

I choosed "substitute" when prompted and all the pics existing in old "concerts" folder have been deleted and replaced with just the new ones.
Are you on Windows? don't know the options you tell, I have three options (Mac) called: 'cancel', 'replace' and 'auto resolve' when dealing with one file and for multiple files it adds 'skip' to the list and has the option for 'apply all'
Replace does what it says, it replaces files and folders with the same name, auto resolve adds a (1) to the files or other number if more with same name are added.
So pasting a folder can't add files to the folder with the same name, but it completely replaces it. The other prompted option creates a "concerts (1)" new folder.
This is normal and wished behavior, you get a warning if names are the same and a choice to either overwrite them or add them with a new (different) filename.

Heard that before but can't replicate this, they always appear in the trash on my Mac.
