Yup. You can only export one movie from iMovie into iDVD but you can drag and drop into iDVD as many as you have room for.

Combining several iMovie projects into one, time-not space-being the factor

Space is not an issue (large external drive), but I'm trying to figure out the fastest way to combine several iMovie projects into one (so each movie will become a chapter in iDVD). I'm pretty sure there must be a better way than I'm attempting, selecting all the clips in clipviewer, then dragging and dropping to the new project clipviewer. As I've done this, the "time remaining" window keeps growing (started out about 4 minutes, climbed to "92 minutes remaining," then I aborted the move). Details: each movie is about 8-10 minutes long, widescreen, made up of various (sometimes many) dv clips, audio segments, still photos, etc.
I have added dv clips to a project via the media folder (project unopened), but this was a single item and simple to move from trash into the project. In this case, I'm not sure what to move in order to save the entire project intact.

Thanks for your reply, Klaus. I'm just now getting to try your suggestion to copy and paste from timeline rather than drag and drop from clipviewer. Alas, it seems to be choking terribly on the transfer. This video is not a 60 minute movie, either; it's about ten minutes. I has about 60 files to it. I did get to the point where I felt confident enough to empty the trash and save the project, so I assume the clips that are there are not still "attached" to the unedited dvs.
Earlier I tried to export, in the advanced settings, to the full quality dv, but the quality really dropped, way too much for the intended use. I'm pretty much stumped at this point, unless I can hear some other suggestions.
What I might try doing is simply dragging and dropping all the packet contents of the media folder into the other movie's media folder, but then I suspect I'll have to rebuild the darn thing from bits and pieces and it may be like putting Humpty Dumpty back together again...ugh.
I'm sure I'm not the first person to face this challenge, am I? Of course, my lesson learned is to build one dvd's contents in one imovie project. If it weren't for the fact that I need to offer viewers the option to "play movie" (play all the videos as one movie) I'd simply drag each movie into iDVD and do it that way (the dvd showing each video separately).
Would still love to hear of other possible solutions here, before trying some other forum.

It may mean you either your Event or your Project. Have you moved any of the files in the Finder by any chance? That error may come up if you moved anything outside of iMovie. Do you get an error message when you choose Share>Export to iMovie (choose medium size) and save it to the Desktop? If you can export it to the desktop, you can pull that file into iDVD separately and still make it work.

Low quality of burned DVD even if I drag&drop iMovie project into iDVD

I've a iMovie HD project that I want to burn via iDVD (7.0.4).
If I click "Share with iDVD" the quality of the resultung video (which is burned to DVD) is rather poor. As I've read within this discussions, the preferred way is to close iMovie and "drag and drop" the iMovie project into iDVD.
With this way, iDVD (instead of iMovie) will render the movie, which should give a video with far more quality.
Unfortunately, the burned DVD with the "drag and drop" method has the same low quality as the video with "Share with iDVD".
I've done a little research and noticed that the "shared movie" for iDVD (iMovie project->Show package Contents->Shared Movies->iDVD) for a 1:10 video has a filesize of only 32kb!
Is there any way to set the "export" parameters for this "shared movie" (it is a quicktime file)?
The quality of the completed DVD is acceptable if I export the iMovie project to "DV stream" an import this stream into iDVD. But in this case I lose all my chapter markers of the movie ..
Is there any way to export the movie from iMovie HD and keep all the chapter markers for iDVD?
Importing the iMovie HD project into iMovie 08/09 is not an option, as I lose the chapter markers also ..

Hi,
the iMovie project was created as "DV" project and I imported DV PAL clips. The iDVD preferences are also PAL (25fps) and the quality setting is "professional quality".
I've also tried the setting "best performance" within iDVD (as suggested within this forum), but with the same poor result.
I can see within the iDVD "project info" that iDVD will use "mymovie.mov" within the "Shared Movies->iDVD" of the iMovie project (Show package contents).
As this converted movie is of low quality, I think this is the root of evil.
If I export the movie from iMovie with "Export as DV stream" and import this converted movie into iDVD the quality is ok - but I lose the chapter markers ..
Is there any way to keep the chapter markers?

I've been trying to share a completed iMovie project with iDVD. iMovie keeps quitting unexpectedly. Why does it keep crashing?

Click on the button near the top of the window where it says Project Library (it toggles between Library and edit Project).
Click just once on the name of the project, so that it highlights in blue.
Go to File Menu > Duplicate Project. There will now be a second project with the same name, but with a number added to the end of the name
Open that duplicated project by double-clicking it

I movie quits unexpectedly during editing and publishing
from Jasonryan1. It relates to a corrupted item existing in his project. And in his attempt to troubleshoot it, he suspected it was a Title he placed in the Project itself. Once he deleted the corrupted Title he was able to successfully export it. As to which item is causing instability, that's a tricky process to narrow down. And I would agree it seems unlikely all your projects could have some corrupted element in them. But it might work to concentrate on the simplest project which is showing the symptoms you describe. Duplicate that project and start deleting pieces of it and trying to add a Title to it and see if iMovie crashes. And that's not to say it's a title, it could just as easily be a picture, a transtion or a music clip that's preventing that project from being exported.

How to adjust the format of an iMovie project in iDVD?

I want to adjust the format of an iMovie project in iDVD so that not only the TV safe area but the whole clip appears on the TV screen. Is there anybody able to help me?

Imovie project to idvd

I'm trying to export an imovie project to idvd. The project is a slideshow of photos from iphoto with an itunes soundtrack. When I click "create idvd project", it advises that its needs to "render & proceed" , but nothing happens. I've also tried using "Share" and clicking idvd in the imovie menu, but that does not work either. I'm using imovie 4 and idvd 4. Has anyone else encountered this?

This is an often reported problem.
No I don't have a direct solution but
instead of using iPhoto to make Your Slide Show You could do as I do.
I start a new iMovie project
open pictures/photos in iMovie and drop the photos into Time-Line
edit:
- duration for each photo +
- adding sound and narration.
- transitions
- color correction
- etc
now
a) Close iMovie and save.
b) find the project icon/folder
c) Ctrl-click on it and Show package.
d) in this there are a folder -> Shared Movies -> iDVD
e) in this there are a QT movie nnnnnnn.mov
f) drop this into an open theme in iDVD and save it as a desktop image
(if iDVD prior HD/5 You have to add a hack to make this possibly
named HPfurz and install it)
Test this with Apple DVD-player - OK then burn it with iDVD
or Toast if You have and dont want to re-code the movie.

Startup disc is Macintosh HD. If your HD is getting near full capacity you'll need to offload some files to an external drive or drives.

Sending completed imovie project to idvd

Explain how imovie and idvd work together.
If I send my completed imovie project to idvd it prompts me to pick a theme.
Essentially re-create what I just did in imovie.
I just want to burn my completed imovie project to a dvd.
What am I missing?

Opening old iMovie projects in iDVD

I'm relatively new to all this. I've made several iMovies and have burned them all through iDVD. But, when I look to re-open them on iDVD only a couple show up on my RECENT PROJECT list. The others do not. Is there a way to reopen those on iDVD? I've tried going through OPEN and IMPORT, but I can't seem to get it right. Thanks...

Sorry, I interpreted "old projects" as having come from an older version of iMovie.

Have you tried and failed with "Open Project" in iMovie as "Open Recent" only holds the most recent and holds none after a delete of preferences.
Have you tried locating them in Finder and going within the Project folder, either to double click on the project file or using "Open with"

Completed 3 hr iMove project, BUT iDVD sees it as being 4 hours

I just completed my iMovie project, and am now ready to use iDVD, however, 2 issues....
1 - I've noticed that while editing iMovie, at the end of my actual movie stuff, which is 2:50:45:09 long, there's additional "dead space" that goes out to 4:00:12:19......how do I get rid of this "dead space"?
2 - this "dead space" is recognized on iDVD as actual footage, so if I can take care of problem #1, then #2 will go away
and I actually have a 3rd ?, since my movie is 2 hours and 50 minutes long, it will not fit onto one DVD, and I'm on a MacBook, not a MacBook Pro, so I don't have a DL DVD RW......so I obviously need to greak this Movie onto 2 different DVD's:
how do I break my iMovie project into 2 shorter projects to put on 2 seperate DVD's, or how do I take the 1 iMovie project and split it onto 2 different DVD's?

excessive +trial'n error+ editing in iM could create 'stray clips', just a single frame of video, 'somewhere' at the very end of the timeline.. set the zoom-slider to max and scroll at the very end.. you should be able to 'select' that almost-non-existing clip and delete it ...
that sets your project length to correct time..
2:50 is too much for iDVD, which benchmark is 120min...( real life: ~110)

just to say that: double-layer sound nice in ads, but many DVDstandalones don't accept DL-r-media.. plus: 2.5h for a 'homebrewn' movie? .. my audience usually falls asleep after 20min ..

Unable to open IMovie Project in IDVD

I have created a 40 minute movie in IMovie 08 (my first). I am unable to open the movie in IDVD 08 and Garage Band. The project name is visible in the media browser but is not available for selection.
I have published the movie to the media browser and it still is not available to IDVD.
I am new to apple computers and have been unable to get help with this problem.

Here's two things to try:
This frequently helps solve some problems. Search for the file named com.apple.iDVD.plist and trash it. (A new one will be created next launch of iDVD.) Or look in: User/Library/Preferences. This may solve project loading errors too. Restart and use Disk Utility to Repair Permissions.
You'll need to reset some Preferences.

Combining several iMovie projects when disk space is limited

I have searched the Forum but cannot find a precise solution to my problem. If it already exists, could someone kindly point me in the right direction?
I have created three separate iMovie 06 projects which need to be combined into one continuous movie of about 40 min. duration. Each of the three projects is 11 - 12 GB in size, and I have only 6.5 GB space remaining on my hard drive.
Is there any way to combine the three projects? Or perhaps some way to import them all into iDVD to make a single DVD?

Plan A) copy files to an external, MacOsExtended formatted harddrive.. erase originals; 6GB is dangerous little disk space, iDVD will freeze your whole system while working immediately ..
Plan A2) .. in case you have access to a 2nd Mac, you can launch that device in 'Target Mode' and connect it via firewire ... for 'abusing' it as an 'external drive'..
Plan B) playout finished projects to camera, erase projects, import from tape straight into iDVD.. but probably, again, not enough disk space for those 'hidden' temp files, iDVD has in use (=10-15GB free is min. rec. AFTER importing files/tapes .. )
Plan C) .. no, I don't think there's a 3rd plan .. aside purchasing disk space..

Combining iMovie projects in iDVD

I have a several part video that I would like to burn to a DVD that will play all the way through as a movie. I have put them in a submenu but it still only will play one and then go back to the menu. Is it possible to add a button that will "play all" on the main menu? Or another option?

It is 100% true what is posted above. However, try this:
Export each movie to QT within iMovie (one at a time) if you'd like and the add each separate QT file /movie (one at a time and in the order you wish) to iDvd's slideshow feature. iDvd's slideshow will play all QT files without returning to the menu until all movies / photos have been played. Yes, you can also add movies to iDvd's slideshow as well as images.
I recommend you not select "manual" within iDvd's slideshow unless your intention is to pause after each added movie or slide.

Why does audio run faster than video after burning my iMovie project in iDVD?

I created a project in iMovie HD and shared it to iDVD 6. When I played the finished disc, I noticed that the audio ran much faster than the video. I rechecked my movie and audio clips in iMovie to make sure they were matched correctly, and I saw no problem there. I burned the disc again through iDVD and got the same problem when I played it in a DVD player.
I have never had this problem before and I've been working on dvd projects all week. I think the only difference with this movie project is that I had movie clip audio and background audio playing at the same time at some parts of the movie, but I don't know if that's the issue.
Any suggestions?

And just to add to OT-s brilliant suggestions - really - Do a Save as a DiskImage ! IMPORTANT !
• When free space goes down on the Start-Up hard disk to 5Gb or less - strange things occurs - Yes even audio out of sync - to not working DVD at all.
I secure a minimum of 25Gb free space when using SD-video to iDVD - if HD material I would guess 4-5 times more as it has to be re-calculated into SD and this needs space.
DVD - is as standard SD-Video (as old time CRT-TVs) - even if You use DVD-Studio Pro or iDVD or Roxio Toast™ - That's what it is and using HD material doesn't improve a bit (may be even give a lesser result)
