Several iPhoto libraries to one ?

Hi
Using iPhoto up to '09. (No Intel yet)
Haveing several iPhoto libraries on several hard disks. I'd like to
• make a new library and collect all photos/movies in the others to this
• make it to identify doubletts and just import one of each and with best (highest) resolution
Is this a dream to be - or a real possibillity ?
Yours Bengt W

If you want to merge Libraries you'll need the paid version ($20) of iPhoto Library Manager This is the only way to merge iPhoto Libraries.
This will manage merging while also dealing with duplicates.

  • I HAVE SEVERAL IPHOTO LIBRARIES

    Hi,
I am not sure how i accomplished this but I have several iphoto libraries on my computer. On my desktop i have iphoto library and iphoto library 1 then in my pictures folder i have iphoto library 10.10.06. I believe the last is a rebuilt library that I created after losing my pictures. How can I condense/delete some of this without jeopardizing my pictures? Also, how can I safely store my older pictures (ie: 2002,2003, 2004 folders) on to an external harddrive? Or in the alternative how can i burn these folders on to a disk and delete them from my harddrive to free up space? Thanks in advance for your help.

There are three ways to get multiple libraries.
    1. Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. It will ask you if you want to create a new library
    2. Move the iPhoto Library Folder out of the Pictures folder. iPhoto will create a new one
    3. Use a Shareware called iPhoto Library Manager.
So, which ever one of these you've been doing... that accounts for it.
To merge the various libraries into one, download iPhoto Library Manager from http://homepage.mac.com/bwebster/iphotolibrarymanager.html. It's a $20 shareware. It's the only way of moving pics from Library to Library while preserving metadata.

  • I moved my iPhoto libraries from one hard drive to another and have to manually locate the photos, every time!!!

I moved my iPhoto libraries from one hard drive to another and now every time I open a library I have to manually locate the photos. After locating the first file, it works well and remembers the location of the files of all the events, even when the folders containing the actual photos are in several different locations.
The problem is that when I close and open iPhoto, it does not remember where the files were and I have to locate at least a file, all over again.
Does anyone knows if there is a way of making iPhoto "remember" or saving the location of the files?

By default, iPhoto will store its library file under ~/Pictures. To select a library manually in iPhoto:
    Ensure that iPhoto is closed.
Hold down the Option key and click on the iPhoto icon in your Dock or launch it from the Applications folder.
    Click on Choose Library.
Locate and select the library you wish to use.
Close iPhoto and re-open it. Does it remember the library that you selected?
For more information on moving your iPhoto library, see http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1229.
Hope that helps, have a great day.

  • Merging pictures from several iphoto libraries in aperture

I have 5 separate iPhoto libraries becaue of the large amount of picture. Now I want to consolidate all 5 star ***** rated pictures of all 5 iPhoto libraries into one "Aperture Project".
When I switch Libraries in Aperture I can's see the Library anymore where I want to consolidate some of the photos.
There should be a way that I can drag pictures for one iPhoto Library to a Project folder in Aperture, switch to a differen iPhoto Library, drag more photos to the Project folder in Aperture, switch to a third iPhoto Library, drag more photos ......   etc.
    Is this possible in Aperture?
    Thanks for any suggestions.

There should be a way that I can drag pictures for one iPhoto Library to a Project folder in Aperture, switch to a differen iPhoto Library, drag more photos to the Project folder in Aperture, switch to a third iPhoto Library, drag more photos
You open one library in iPhoto and one library in Aperture, and even drag  images from iPhoto to Aperture, but unfortunately this way you can only drag the previews of the edited versions to Aperture, so you would lose image quality.
Why not open each iPhoto Library in turn in Aperture, export  your five***** rated images a a new Aperture Library, and then merge this new library into your main Aperture library by importing it? This way you will import the original master image files as well as the adjustments and ratings and don't lose any image quality in the transit.

  • I have several iphoto libraries i would like to merge and delete duplicates

i have several iphoto libraries i would like to merge and delete duplicates

The only way to merger libraries is to use the paid version of  iPhoto Library Manager . The paid version also has a duplicate finder feature that can identify duplicates.
If you have the latest versions of iPhoto AND Aperture you can merge libraries with Aperture.
These additional applications will identify and help remove duplicate photos from an iPhoto Library:
iPhoto Library Manager - $29.95 (also mergers libraries).
Duplicate Annihilator - $7.95 - only app able to detect duplicate thumbnail files or faces files when an iPhoto 8 or earlier library has been imported into another.
PhotoSweeper - $9.95 - This app can search by comparing the image's bitmaps or histograms thus finding duplicates with different file names and dates.
DeCloner - $19.95 - can find duplicates in iPhoto Libraries or in folders on the HD.
DupliFinder - $7 - shows which events the photos are in.
iPhoto AppleScript to Remove Duplicates - Free
PhotoDedupo - $4.99 (App Store) -  this app has a "similar" search feature which is like PhotoSweeper's bitmap comparison.  It found all duplicates
Duplicate Cleaner for iPhoto - free - was able to recognize the duplicated HDR and normal files from an iPhone shooting in HDR
Some users have reported that PhotoSweeper did the best in finding all of the dups in their library: iphoto has duplicated many photos, how...: Apple Support Communities.
If you have an iPhone and have it set to keep the normal photo when shooting HDR photos the two image files that are created will be duplicates in a manner of speaking (same image) but there are only twp apps that detected the iPhone HDR and normal photos as being duplicates:  PhotoSweeper and Duplicate Cleaner for iPhoto.  None of the other apps detected those two files as being duplicates as they look for file name as well as other attributes and the two files from the iPhone have different file names.
iPLM, however, is the best all around iPhoto utility as it can do so much more than just find duplicates.  IMO it's a must have tool if using iPhoto.

  • How do I save 2 iphoto libraries onto one external drive?

    Hi
I have an iphoto library on my MacBook Pro and I have an older library of different photos on my graphite iBook.
I'd like to store all my photos onto one external drive.
How can I do this without losing either library in the process?
I actually have the same question regarding music on iTunes.
    Thanks
    AS

Make sure the drive is formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
Do you want to merge these libraries into one? If so, then you'll need the paid version ($20) of  iPhoto Library Manager
It's the only way to merge Libraries while preserving all metadata, versions and so on.
Otherwise, simply rename one of the Libraries (so they don't overwite each other) and Copy the iPhoto Library from the Pictures Folder to the External Disk. in each case.
To choose which library to open: holf down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location.

  • I have 2 iphoto libraries but one is lost, missing, cannot seem to find it... tried an apple care person - they were no help - we use Time Machine for external backup... but cannot find my older iPhoto library! I desperately need some help!

I have recently had something really odd happen within iphoto.  My photos from May-Oct 2013 appeared to be missing from my primary Iphoto library.
last night I was trying to find any additional Iphoto libraries on my Imac... I could not find them... but then somehow the May-Oct 2013 library showed up and now I cannot find the "current" primary Iphoto library.   I sought help from apple care today but no solutoin from them after 2 hours trying.  I have timemachine that backs up my Imac each day to an external hard drive.   When I open Iphoto while holding down the "option" key - it lets me choose which Iphoto library... but only (1) library comes up...  I can't figure out what happened - but it seems that I must have more than one Iphoto library because yesterday I was able to see all my photos except the "gap in dates" from May-Oct 2013.  Today - I can only open a Library called Iphoto2014... and it contains the photos from the gap in dates.  I can't "see" any other options to open photos... but just yesterday there appeared to be a different library available.
Any advice or steps i should take to locate my missing photos - would be soooooo much appreciated.

  • Unify 3 different iPhoto libraries in one

    Hi
I had in the past years 3 differents mac.
All of them have 3 different iphoto libraries.
How can I make fomr all 3 libraries only one ?
Is there any software that can make from those 3 libraries only one that i can use on my actual mac, having once in a while all my pictures ?

    You have two choices:
    1. Use iPhoto Library Manager -- but not with the latest version of iPhoto!
    2. Wait until September for bugs to settle, then buy Aperture 3.3 and consolidate Libraries within Aperture.
    I'd recommend #2.
    More here:

Mercifully, thing have changed since I wrote that, but it will give you a flavor of what's involved.

  • Should I merge my multiple iPhoto libraries into one?

I have used iPhoto to organize my photos since I started using a Mac in 2004. Back then, when iPhoto was at number "5" or perhaps even less, I found it more convenient to divide my library into several libraries, one for each calendar year, since, as I recall, iPhoto didn't yet have nearly as many ways of searching for photos as it does today, with iPhoto 11. Today iPhoto is much more sophisticated, and offers many options for organizing and finding photos, by date, faces, location, events, etc. I am wondering if it no longer makes sense to keep my libraries separate by year, and would it be easier to re-merge them all back into one library in iPhoto 11. It is kind of a pain to have to open and close different libraries each time I am looking for an old photo because I can no longer remember what year the event occurred in. Yet I am also afraid that merging my libraries (one for each year since 2002, when I went digital with my photography) might open the proverbial "can of worms" and create more problems than it solves. I'd love to hear from any who have had similar experience.

iPhoto does not have yet the option to merge libraries, unlike Aperture. You would have to use the paid utility "iPhoto Library Manager" to do this.
But iPhoto certainly can cope with larger libraries than before, and it is very useful to have the ability to search all photos at once or to use photos from many years in albums and books. For example, if you want to make a book for an anniversary with pictures from different years, it would be more involved, if you have the photos in different libraries.

  • Why are my photos from iPhone disappearing? Why do I now have several iPhoto libraries?

    Hi!
A while ago, I realized that all my photos from iPhoto were missing. Apple told me that I accidentally deleted them from the applications folder. This has happened again a couple times now. I have been backing my photos up with a hardrive, and for some reason I now have several libraries, all containing different photos that I once thought had been deleted. Is it possible to have only one iPhoto librbay instead of several? And why is it that sometimes when I open iPhoto, all my photos are suddenly missing?
    Stasia Stass

    Hi ...
Photos are not stored in the Applications folder, only Applications.
If you are using iCloud, open System Preferences > iCloud. Deslect the box next to Photo Stream off then back on. Give iCloud a few minutes to re sync your photos.
If you are not using iCloud, try rebuilding the iPhoto library.

  • Several alchemy libraries in one swf?

    Hello!
I've sucessfuly compiled several c/c++ libraries into SWC libraries which I plan to use in my flex project. But I'm wondering is it beter to keep them as separate libraries or make one big glue.gg file with all interop code for all of this libraries?

Because Alchemy uses statics to keep track of its ram, etc, you sort of can't have more than one instance.  The libraries would be sharing the same ram, which can cause problems.
However, you can dodge the issue by loading your alchemy libraries into separate Application Domains.  I'm doing this in my project:
    Compile your libs as SWCs
Extract the SWFs from inside the SWCs
Embed the library SWFs in your application
Use Loader.loadBytes to load your library into its own Application Domain
The other benefit of doing it this way is that if your alchemy lib crashes it won't affect any other alchemy libraries because they're using entirely separate ByteArrays for ram, etc.

Two of three of my iPhoto's libraries could not be upgraded to Mavericks because there was not enough room on a partitioned external drive. How do I copy them to a larger external drive? ( Iphoto 11)

Drag them there. The volume they’re put onto needs to be formatted as Mac OS Extended.
