Several keys in a row fail repeatedly on keyboard on G3 iBook

OK, here's the situation: A couple months ago the "9", "O", "L", and period key on my G3 dual USB 12" iBook stopped working. A little search in here and across the Internet found the suggestion to try reseating the keyboard cable. I did so. The keys started working again.
Then it happened again... and again. Each time, opening up the computer, removing the airport card, removing the metal shield, and disconnecting the keyboard cable and then connecting it again fixed the problem for a short while.
I got sick of this, and figured it was a keyboard error, as USB keyboards don't seem to be affected by this problem. I ordered a new iBook keyboard, installed it, and it worked... For a couple hours. Then the SAME keys stopped working again. Clearly, it wasn't my old keyboard.
Does anybody have any suggestions or ideas on this problem? I don't see any problems with the connector itself. The cable is solidly seated when connected. All seems perfectly normal to the naked eye.
I'm reduced to carrying around a small USB keyboard, which makes my iBook a little less elegant and useful. I'd love to be able to fix this problem.

So here's a weird one: This has happened- with the same keys, even- on a different 12" iBook; One that worked perfectly for months before shipping to a new owner. I'm hoping it's the same easily-fixed issue- the metal plate over the optical drive being bowed from some quirk in shipping- but not being able to help out personally (in another state) makes it hard for me to troubleshoot this for the new owner. I feel bad that this happened after it worked for us, and I want to make the new owner happy with the iBook.
Apart from the other suggestions, is there anything a complete Apple newbie (the new owner) could do? I suspect they will be afraid to crack it open to do the necessary fix, but I'm at a loss. I hate to direct them to a Genius Bar and have them pay to have something simple done to fix this (not a good first impression of Apple!) but I don't want to see anyone inherit a problem, even though it didn't exist when I shipped it (the new owner even says the keys were working when they got it, but that they quit working a short time later!)
I guess my real question is: What would a tech charge someone to deal with a similar "keys not working" issue? Any chance of some charity on the Apple Store's part when it comes to showing someone how to open an iBook, and check for crumbs/bowed metal/what-have-you?
Of course, this issue could be completely different from mine. I have no way of knowing what's happening. But the same keys?!?! Is this a known issue?
I just feel bad that a malfunction cropped up after I sold it, even if it was an as-is, private sale, and I'd like to make sure this person doesn't walk away with a bad first impression of Apple quality, let alone my sincerity in offering a good, working computer!
Incidentally, the other iBook- the one described in this thread originally- was sold to another guy earlier this month (once I knew the issue was fixed; I wanted to move up to a MacBook) and the new owner has reported no problems. I doubt he'd let me off the hook if the issue came back.
(And yes, I'm positive the two iBooks didn't get mixed up, either! The one that never had this issue had a cosmetic blemish that made it easier to distinguish from the other one, which did.)

Changes to table header row that repeat in several pages

Hello.
I have a table that expands over several pages, with a header row that repeats in all of them.
I want to hide some of the header row's columns by code.
When I change the header row, it changes only for the first occurence of the header row, and not for other occurences.
I tried to do somthing like that:
for (i = 0; i < Table1.nodes.length; i++)
if (Table1.nodes.item(i).name == "HeaderRow")
// ..hide the column..
But it only entered the loop once, and only changed it for the first row.
I also tried to look at Table1.HeaderRow.instanceManager.count, but again, it has the value of 1, so I can't access
Table1.HeaderRow<i>
or somthing like that.
So how can it be done?

Time Machine fails repeatedly with no problem detected on the external disk

Since a couple of days, Time Machine fails repeatedly, several times a day. I repair the disk with the Disk utility, that finds no error, then I reset Time Machine as indicated, and after one or two successful backups, it fails again, with the following report given by the Time Machine Buddy widget:

Invalid key length, disk repair fails

i am getting this disk error after macbookpro locks up, repeatable.
invalid key length
volume check failed
error: filesystem verify or repair failed.
this is the boot volume of the macbookpro running os 10.5.6. been running well for months, used everyday all day, then this am the finder and all other apps lock up, no application crash, just all hanging one after another. hard reset gets system back but it recurs in short order.
i ran diskutil from the software restore dvdrom, three times. same results (error text above) each time. only option barring other solutions is to reinstall the system and restore data from a time machine bu.
never seen this before. any ideas?

this does not bode well. i have no idea what has caused this disk to totally dump on me. almost feels like a virus -- it was such a sudden and complete meltdown with no precursor whatsoever. i am running dw on it in target mode but seems like i might have to frag it. crazy.

Here's what I have (to the best of my knowledge):
Original source: mini DV tape, it's all HD
I use capture now to digitize the whole tape. My easy setup is: HDV- 1080i60 FiriWire Basic. After I have digitized all of it - it's an .mov file with the settings I just posted above. So when final cut is done digitizing I already have all the files in my browser window and I just drag them and drop them in the timeline and I choose to match the timeline settings if they're different. So my timeline settings look like this:
Frame Size: 1440x1080
Vid Rate: 29.97 fps
Compressor: HDV 1080i60
When I'm done editing, I use batch export to export a bunch of sequences (they all have the same settings I just mentioned above) and I chose:
Format: QuickTime (custom), Compression Type H.264, frame rate: 29.97 fps, key frames: every 24frames, compressor quality- high, encoding: best quality. Then for size I choose either 1280x720 HD or I use "custom" to make them half the size of that so that would be 640x360. My point is to end up with an .mov file which I can then encode into an flv or just burn it on a data cd.
As for your question number 1: I'm not even sure what you mean by that.
Does all that make any sense now?

Clean install fails repeatedly

Deleted a CloudDocs folder in Application Support by mistake and reinstalled OS X on my MBP because I kept getting iCloud log-in popups no matter what I did.
Went fine, but I got some new issues and had to do a clean install again. This time I had huge problems formatting the disk as I kept getting errors when trying to format as GUID and Mac OS extended (journaled).
I finally got it to format correctly but the OS X installation fails repeatedly.

Have no idea what you were doing, so do this:
Install OS X Using Internet Recovery
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
Boot to the Internet Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND-OPTION- R keys until a globe appears on the screen. Wait patiently - 15-20 minutes - until the Recovery main menu appears.
Partition and Format the hard drive:
Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
After DU loads select your newly installed hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed. Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall OS X: Select Reinstall OS X and click on the Install button. Be sure to select the correct drive to use if you have more than one.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.
This should restore the version of OS X originally pre-installed on the computer.

Reporting Agent - Print Layout - Issue in Displaying Key Figures in Rows

We have issue while printing reports using Reporting Agent. As part of Query Definition we have Structure of key figures in Rows. But while creating Reporting Agent , in Print Layout option Under Table Rows we are not able to drag Structure of key fig.
What could be the solution to this issue. How can we use key figures in rows?

Hi,
putting product in the rows will slove the issues as the unit cost depends upon the prdoduct and therefore it will uniquely identify each of the material and then it will get multiplies with the qty and therefore you will get the correct result.
this kind of issue you will always face when you are going to multiply cost with the Qty and as the cost differ with the individual material.
Also putting material into the rows will cause the no. of rows to increase as all the materials will show up in the individual rows for the particular month.
Also you can make a claculated key fgure for the multiplication and use before aggregation.
But for that your both the key figures should be in the same cube i.e. in the same rows or the before aggregation will not work you will not even get an option of before aggregation in the CKF if the key figures belong to two different cubes.
Since your qty and cost are coming from two different cubes before aggreagtion will not work here.
And if you do before aggregation then you report will become quite slow as it will do all the multiplication anf then will bring the result.
So it depends on your requirement and your design how to proceed.

I am creating a PDF via Adobe Acrobat Professional 9 and Excel 2010 and want to have the title row appear on the top of each of the 140+ pages, but when I go to the
Page Setup and select the Sheet Tab, the
Rows to repeat at top is unavailable.
Excel was fully installed as part of Office Professional Plus 2010 and Acrobat was fully installed as part of Adobe Design CS4.

Based on my research,
if you have more than one worksheet selected, the
Rows to repeat at top and Columns to repeat at left
boxes are not available in the Page Setup dialog box. To cancel a selection of multiple worksheets, click any unselected worksheet. If no unselected sheet is visible, right-click the tab of a selected sheet, and then click
Ungroup Sheets on the shortcut menu.

I have selected the the check box Insert Header Row in Subsequent Pages then also the header is not getting flowed in subsequent pages only till 2nd page its getting flowed.
I have used table wizard to create table and i have made the table subform as flowed then also table header is not repeating in subsequent pages.

Non-SysAdmins get error 18456 Severity 14 State 11 Login Failed for user _ Reason Token-based server access validation failed with an infrastructure error.

I have a SQL 2008 R2 system (10.50.4000) where I'm having problems connecting any user that is not a SysAdmin. Example: I setup a new SQL Login to use Windows Authentication and grant that user db_datareader on the target database. The user attempts
to connect using Excel client or Access or SQL Management Studio and receives Error 18456. The SQL Server Logs shows Error 18456 Severity 14 State 11 Login Failed for user _ Reason Token-based server access validation failed with an infrastructure error.
The strange part is that if I temporarily grant the user the sysadmin server role then the user can connect successfully and retrieve data. But, if I take away that sysadmin server role then the user can no longer connect but again receives the Error

We've turned off UAC on the client machine to see if that was the problem, but no change.
I have dropped and re-added the user's SQL Login (and the related database user login info). No success.

Yes, you understand correctly. The user is logging onto a workstation (not the server) with a Windows Authenticated id. The user is using either Excel or Access or SSMS and connecting to the server using a Windows Authenticated SQL Login account.
If the account has sysadmin role (which is only for testing) then the connection is successful. If I take away sysadmin role from the account then the connection is unsuccessful and the SQL Server Log shows Error
18456 Severity 14 State 11 Login Failed for user _ Reason Token-based server access validation failed with an infrastructure error.
(SQL Authentication is not an option here. I must use Windows Authentication).
Any other troubleshooting assistance you can offer would be appreciated. Thanks.

Is anyone else having the finish rub off of the keys on their macbook? I've had mine for about 6 months and several keys look like the finish is wearing through. I went to the local genius bar today and the techs said they'd never seen this before.

Some people have seen their aluminum uni-body discoloring due to body oils. Go figure.
Normally putting anything over the keys/aluminum will hurt heat disspation, but you may need to use keyboard covers.
Or save up $500/year for new keyboards.
Neither is supposed to be a sarcastic answer. Either one could end up being the solution.

Invalid Key Length - Volume Check Failed

This is an iMac/INTEL 2.16 w/10.4.11 and 1 GIG RAM
Full error msg while trying to repair disk with boot up DVD:
Invalid Key Length - Volume Check Failed
Error: The underlying task reported failure on exit
1 volume could not be repaired because of an error
Is this repairable or are we due for a new computer for 90/91 year old heavy users?
If I buy DW, do I use it the same as the boot disk -- start from it and run the repair or do I have to install something?
I do have the Tech Tool disk from the AppleCare... never looked inside it.
I used to use Tech Tool a lot with my older Macs, but have never done so with X or X/INTEL

Then if that fails, new computer.
This computer was practically rebuilt after it underwent the recall for the burning problem. Now the screen is faded making it hard for 90 year old eyes to see.
It had bad ram too, and this is a new HD.

It's from 2007 right? Isn't that when 10.4 came out? I have set up so many since then I lost track... I'd say if it's more than 4 it needs to be replaced.

BEx Broadcaster Send button - No Broadcast Wizard with Key Figures in Rows

Working in BI 7.0 SP 16, we are having an issue with BEx Broadcaster. For a typical horizontal query (key figures in columns), the send button in BEx on the Portal works properly and returns the Broadcasting Wizard. However, when using a query in a vertical format (key figures in rows), the window opended by the send button displays the "spinning wheel" and never procceds on to the Broadcasting Wizard.
I have checked for SAP notes related to BEx Broadcaster and was not able to find anything relevant.
The same query was tested with the key figures in columns and in rows. The Broadcast Wizard comes up when the key figures are in columns, but not in rows. Since it was tested both ways with the same query, I am assuming that the issue is related to the orientation (horizontal vs. vertical).
Has anyone else run into this issue? Is there a known limitation, or a patch available? Does anyone have a BI system with a query you could flip the key figures from columns to rows and give it a try?

I'm having my own issues with BEx Broadcaster in the Portal, but from BEx Query Designer - Query - Publish - BEx Broadcaster, the BEx Broadcaster Wizard is available in both cases (Key figures in columns and key figures in rows).
