Several of each panels (Symbols, Graphic Styles, Swatches) as default?

I have created several groups of symbols, graphic styles and swatches that need to be loaded each time I start Illustrator. I thought I would be able to do this by resaving over the "New Document Profile" but, it only loads one group of symbols, one group of graphic styles...etc. Then, I have to go and load each additional one and move the panels into the menu bar (out of my way). Also, I have to change the symbols to list the name each time. Please tell me there is an easier way to do this!!

It was a simple fillcolor with opacity. It is as if it doesnt respond. I can clic the symbol for a new layer, but nothing happens. I've dragged the style from appearance-box, to symbol for new style - Nothing. I've dragged the box directly to Graphic Styles - again - nothing. I've tried with my CS4 that worked. But not in CC.

Can I make a "recolor artwork" into a graphic style?

I may be over-thinking this:
Let's say I have a logo that is made with one spot color, plus a gradient of that spot color and white. I want to quickly change the logo from one spot color to another. I can't make the new colors into a Graphic Style, since the logo has multiple fills. I can't just click on another spot color in the Swatches panel, because it fills all the shapes with 100% of that color.
Is there a one-click solution for this? See example if my writing doesn't make sense

I would defer to Wade's knowledge of typos.
If your spot only shows up in your logo, you can replace the swatch with the new spot swatch. Pick it as usual out of your library and then option drag the new swatch onto the old swatch. (you could also temporarily move to a new document to do it if you don't want to replace all instances of your old color, but at that point, live color seems more efficient...)

Graphic Styles multiplying when objects are copied

I have some groups containing lines with graphic styles. Sometimes, when I copy and paste these groups I get new graphic styles with name plus the number 1, 2, 3...
E.g. "Foo" -> "Foo 1", later "Foo 1" -> "Foo 2"
Do you know how to avoid this happening?

That could help - but it seems that it would kill your CS5 specific stuff if you opened the file up in an earlier version?
Is that not true? Would I lose any other data?
I tried bcl5462's comment below but the import into cs4 failed completely (I get a "PDF Objects that have been Reinterpreted error" and none of my original document remains), and I'm not sure if it even deals with graphic styles (from http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/408/kb408008.html )
Open the file with Illustrator CS5 (trial)
From Window > Actions, "Delete Unused Panel Items"
Also - try clicking on the brushes panel and selecting all unused brushes - delete.
Select all unused swatches and delete.
Save the file.
Open the file with an older version of Illustrator (e.g. Illustrator CS3)
This will inform you the file was saved in a newer version of Illustrator and the file will be imported.
In this process Illustrator CS3 will not import the corrupted brushes or swatches.
Save the cleaned file.

States in graphic styles

I tried to use graphic styles to save the states of an menu-enty or a input field - and failed. So it's not possible to safe different states in one graphic style?

That's a logical answer but unfortunately it's not the case in this matter. For instance I tried out one of the Graphic Styles which contained several elements which were not introduced in newer versions, such as Drop Shadow and Offset Path... even just saving as AI CS5, the problem was happening.

How to deal with non-continuous shapes and graphic styles

I am not sure how to frame this question so I will try to describe the problem.
Imagine I have two shapes. One is a hollowed out circle (like a doughnut chart). The second is a smaller filled in circle. The smaller filled in circle is then poitioned inside the hoolowed out one, so you have like a target but with no "middle" band. What I would like to do is apply a graphic style to the COMBINED shape. The problem is that if I select both shapes and apply the style, each shape will have its own style, whereas what I want is for the style to be distributed over the two shapes as if they were one. And if I use the shape builder tool, when I join the two shapes, from the outer hollowed out circle to the inner filled in circle, I fill in the shape for the "middle band" whereas I want that middle band to be empty.
You can probably tell I don't know Illustrator and come from Photoshop. In PS, I would simply select my two shapes and apply a style. Since my selection forms a shape that ignores the middle band, the style applies evenly to the whole selection. Can I do something similar in Ilustrator? In reality my network of shapes is more complex that the example above and I do need to keep it a vector.

There are really two types of Graphic Styles - Object level styles and Group level styles. There is no way to tell which style is which. So if you have an Object level Style and try to apply it to a group of objects or often a compound shape, you get each individual object having the style. If you have a Group level style and try to apply it to only an object, you often get nothing applied.
It perhaps sounds like you have an Object level style and are trying to apply it to a group.
There's no way to convert an Object level style to a Group level style or vice versa. The best (and pretty much only) way I've found to get around this is to apply the style to teh correct level then make a note of all the style settings, select the other level and recreate the style for that level.
Whether or not a style applies correctly has a great deal to do with specific aspects of the style in addition to what level the style was generated from. This is a frustrating aspect of Graphic Styles.

Can't locate custom Graphic Styles

I created and saved some custom Graphic Styles in Illustrator CS4. When I follow the path of the default save location (Apps>Illustrator>Presets>en_US>Graphic Styles) they are not there. I have used Spotlight to search my machine for the files, but it returns no results.
I have created a new, custom location for saving Graphic Styles in the future, but I want to locate these "missing" files so that I can delete them.
Anyone know how to locate these files?
Can I locate and remove them from within Illustrator?
I am using Illustrator CS4 for Mac.

I still don't see them.
User>Library>Preferences>Adobe>...nothing about Illustrator (Encore, Encoder, AE, Contribute, EXT Mgr, MediaCore ImporterProcess, OnLocation, Plugins, PProHeadlines, PPro, SB, XMP). I checked each of these folders and their subfolders with no luck.
User>Library>Preferences>Adobe Illustrator CS4 Library Settings>en_US>Flash 10 and FWAIPref>...empty.
User>Library>Preferences>Adobe Illustrator CS4 Settings>en_US>...no folders and no Graphic Styles.
Weird.

Refer to a Graphic Style in a Graphic Style library

Is it possible to use Javascript to apply a Graphic Style from a save Graphic Style library to an object.
Or does it have to be in the default graphic styles panel to refer to it in JS.

Copy/Paste duplicates graphic styles

Scenario: Start with a named graphic style of say 2 pt black stroke/no fill called '2.0 pt'. Create an object using said style, copy and paste it, every time I do this I get '2.0 pt 1', '2.0 pt 2', '2.0 pt 3' etc. insanely populating my graphic styles panel. Anybody else experience this behaviour or is it just my set up and something I have to troubleshoot?
This is with CS6 (16.0.4) running on Mac OS X.6.8

Expor Graphic styles

In the manual (on page 8) there's mentioned a menu item that should be in the graphic styles panel for exporting graphic styles. This item is not there in my installation. All other HTML5-Options do work. How do I mark graphic styles for export?

Unlike the other CSS export functions, this works a bit differently. You first have to select a graphic style in the panel, and then you can choose Include CSS Style in SVG from the flyout menu of the Graphic Style panel. You can then select other graphic styles and do the same. Then, when you save your file as SVG, you can choose Style Elements from the CSS Properties popup menu that appears in the SVG Options dialog box. Any styles that you marked in your document should then be included in the SVG.

CS3 Graphic styles frustration

Graphic styles in CS3;
I've defined several graphic styles and saved them in a library. Once imported into a new document or make a template doc with style already there.
Drawing lines in a layer: clicking the graphic style i want and draw a line, so far so good. Copy and paste that line ...
gives me a NEW graphic style-1 which happens to be the same as the graphic style in which the line was drawn???? Why???
By clicking in the Appearance menu on New art has basic appearance and doing the same as above won't give a new style-1 but....
Now the lines I draw, copy or paste has no graphic style at all?????
What I want is to draw ,copy and paste lines with a specific graphic style and illustrator to get hold of the style!
What am i doing wrong?

This bug or what ever it is did not seem to happen on Graphic Styles that had more attributes than one fill & one stroke. So when I made a Graphic Style & I only needed a stroke with no fill I would just add another empty fill so I would end up with a stroke & 2 empty fills. I do not know why but this problem did not seem to happen on any of these more complicated Styles. The problem did happen one time with a complex Style but I just recreated it & it has not happen since.

Missing Graphic Styles files for navigation in Muse Tutorial

I'm on the fourth video tutorial for Muse where graphic styles panel to the nav bar are applied. The files: top nav active and top nav normal over down are missing under the Graphics Panel. Also the files included under the States Panel to apply to the nav bar. Where can they be downloaded? The tutorial indicates they should be there. Otherwise the Tutorial videos have been working great so far.

Just going off the screenshot you provided, I don't actually see your Graphic Styles panel open, I only see the Paragraph Styles panel. If this is the issue, you can open the Graphic Styles panel by going to Window >> Graphic Styles. Then you should be able to see the the missing styles as you can in the screenshot I included.
Also, be sure you opened the right file for this part (the Widgets.muse file.)

Graphic styles that use current fill color instead of stomping them?

Sorry if this is a really stupid, newbie question; I am a stupid newbie.
If I make a graphic style/appearance, it stores the colors of the fill and stroke and will then stamp that down on whatever else I apply it to (obviously). e.g. if I make a graphic style of a pale yellow fill and a bright orange dropshadow screen to make a glowing neon kind of look, and then drop that style onto a bright blue star, it will make the star pale yellow.
Is there a way to do a graphic style that _modifies_ the existing appearance instead of stomping it - e.g. dropping that graphic style on my blue star would make a pale blue fill with a bright green dropshadow screen.
e.g. A graphic style that said "make the new fill 110% value, 85% saturation, same hue as the existing fill color, add a 25 pt dropshadow that has the color of 90% value, 110% saturation, -3 hue of the existing fill color." And then that style dropped on a yellow star and a blue star would result in a glowing neon yellow star and a glowing neon blue star.
The reason I ask: I have a bunch of geometric shapes of various shades of red, orange, yellow and brown, and would like to see what they would all look like with dropshadows of dark, very desaturated complementary colors (the orange shape gets a dark blue/gray dropshadow, the yellow shape gets a dark purple/gray dropshadow, etc.). Do I have to go in and modify each appearance by hand, or is there some way I can automate that?

You won't get as much control as you describe (specific HSV values), but try putting a negative value in the Drop Shadow dialog's Darkness field.
To create a Graphic Style that can apply an Effect without disturbing the existing fill/stroke of the object(s), first group the object(s), then apply the Effect (Drop Shadow, etc.) to the Group, and then drag the Group to the Graphic Styles palette.

Graphic Styles, Multiple Strokes

I make a graphic style with more than one stroke. I choose the brush tool. I click the graphic style. I draw a line. only one of the strokes is applied to the path. I have to select the path again, and then click the graphic style for it to apply.
"New art has basic appearance" is unchecked.
It's time consuming and frustrating. And it takes the punch out of one of the better additions to the program.

Well to be honest this is going to sound sarcastic but it is not intended. You make three lines the way you want it to apply to new shapes. the you select and drg it ot he brush panel and eselct to make it an pattern brush you have to read the help files in order to understand how to make a pattern brush.

Graphic Styles Freezes on Mac

With the latest Illustrator update through Creative Cloud, every time I try to open the Graphic Styles panel my Illustrator gets the spinning beach ball on the Mac (OS 10.7.5) and I have to force quit. Anyone else having this issue?

The default styles that populate that palette are coming from files in this folder.
Here are the files in that folder for CS5, CS6 should be similar.
Sometimes these files get their access preferences corrupted, hence why I had repair disk permissions.
Try making a new document, using a differnt document profiles to see if possibly the one you are using is corrupt.
If that does not work, try creating a new user account log in as that.
