Several problems on new openbox install
Hi guys I switched out my computers and installed openbox on my new one (2001 computer ). First of all I finally got x.org to work on this computer. hurray for me. ok first problem
1. I installed gtk-chtheme to change my gtk2 themes and i installed the clearlooks package to try it out, but it segfaults on me when i try to change a theme.

2. I have pcmanfm as a file manager and I would like it to start up with the same settings that I just told it to use. I like it to set my background and use icons on the desktop (all of which can be turned on via it setting dialog). I have it started as pcmanfm& in my autostart.sh. Then I found a post somewhere that said to use the -d option but that didn't work either.
3. I use obconf and obmenu to manage my openbox setup, but they won't work. They give me a "operation not permitted" type message. I ran obmenu as root (via sudo) and it worked perfectly. obconf still didn't function as root or a regular user. weird
4. I have no sound as well. I installed alsa and turned up the volume controls and unmuted them. no luck. do i need esd or something as well?

I'd check the permissions and ownerships in my home directory if I were you. Your third problem is almost certainly caused by something along those lines: either rc.xml itself is unwritable, or one or more of the directories in its path is. It's just about possible the autostart.sh problem is related. Is autostart.sh executable by your user?
The last one: No, you don't need esd. Just a thought, one of those "obvious-but-it's-best-to-check" things: is your user in the audio group?

Several problems continuous since first installing Firefox. Personal google search settings don't save; remember me options on web sites like Facebook aren't remembered; Youtube and Flixy videos don't play despite removing/reinstalling/upgrading Firefox several times; upgraded the latest flash plugin today, but no difference, symptoms are black play box with youtube and white box with Flixy. OS install problem after new HD install
I very proudly installed a new 250g HD in my crashed mac mini A1176 ( I did not have anything backed up). After startup I got the ?. I put an install disk from macbook and restarted.I got to the installation stage and It said I couldn't install that software. I then partitioned and formatted the new HD (per forum posts) but still could not install OS. For some reason I also could not eject the disk. I tried all the tips and eventually opened it up and took out disk.
Next I tried to start up with Black OSX Tiger install disk- it won't show up. stuck on ? disk. And now I still can't eject that disk either.
Any ideas? Did I do something wrong on HD install? How can I get this working again?First, do you have the original disks that came with the Mini? You stated that you tried "black" Tiger disks. Depending on your Mini's version, it could have shipped with 10.3.7, 10.4, 10.4.2, 10.4.5, 10.4.6, 10.4.7, 10.4.8, 10.4.10, 10.5 or 10.5.6
Let's say your Mini shipped running 10.4.5; Black Tiger 10.4.0 could not be used for the install.

Problems after new software install - 5800
Yesterday I installed software v 40.0.005 to my 5800 Music Express and I have found a few issues that I cannot seem to resolve:
1 - The appearance of the stop/snooze buttons for the Alarm Clock changed, but the stop button no longer works. Although the button actuates (turns red), no phone action follows. The only option is to snooze the alarm then go deactivate the alarm.
2 - When I scan for new music the phone does not pick up any of the music (mp3) that is on the 8gb memory chip in the phone.
Any help would be appreciated, thanks...

Don't tap on SNOOZE , JUST SWIPE your finger on it in the same direction of the arrow, if the colour from left to rightso swipe your finger from left to right , that's it

Several problems with new itunes??!!
Getting much of the same issues with new version of itunes. Printing up cd covers, the playlist gets all jumbled up for some reason. Also, the thing that really gets me livid is before you used to be able to randomize your playlist and the order would change. This was cool if you were going to burn a cd and just wanted a random order different than the order you put the songs in your playlist. Now it seems you have to move the songs around instead of itunes "shuffle" changing the order for you. The shuffle does work for playback but not when you want to burn your cd in a different random order like the old itunes used to. I also used to like the old itunes that would show the cd artwork bigger during playback. Now it doesn't seem to have that feature. "Recently Played" folder doesn't appear to work as well. Itunes Store appears to be much slower while searching for music and tends to freeze up a lot. Sampling songs in the store also seems to need to "rebuffer" way more than the old version. Most of the time, I don't mind the updates. It takes some time getting used to it but eventually it gets easier. This update, however, I am not very happy with. Especially not being able to shuffle my "playlist" order. That ***!!
looks like this is a known issue for the album covers printing jumbled. several work arounds would be to try print in black and white theme. You can also try to save as a pdf and print from another application like word or paint or something

VIsta Wireless Problems with New FIOS Install July 2009
I recently had FIOS telephone, INternet andTV intstalled. All was well except on my Vitsa laptop I cannot maintain a steady wireless conneciton with the Actiontec MI424WR router. I hit the Web and found out that many have had this complaint and that there is an ongoing conversation about whose fault the problem is. I had flawless service under TIme- Warner with my Vista Wireless so I did not intially assign blame to Vista or my laptop. I do recall the Verizon installer mentinoed "problems with Vista" but he did not elaborate. I spent all day yesterday researching and attempting every fix suggested on numerous web sites. All failed except one.
Essentially, I now use my LinkSys Router in front of the Actiontec MI424WR router. I found the instructions to do this on numerous web sites after researching FIOS Vista wireless problems. The LinkSys router handles only wireless. Now my Vista laptop never drops a connection. I still have acess to FIOS TV guide and on demand so the fix did not interfere with FIOS router TV functions.
THe bottom line is that it would appear that there is a problem with the Actiontec MI424WR router and Vista. Fortunately for me I had the Linksys ROuter available. Verizon - you need to look into this. Based on what I have experienced I cannot recommend FIOS internet for those with VIsta computers until tjhis is addressed.
From what I have researched, Verizon claims it is a Vista problem. Beta testors of WIndows 7 have reported the same issues with FIOS and Actiontec MI424WR router. My experience and that of others who have devised the fix I employed would clearly suggest that Verizon needs to look into this and get this problem solved.
Steve B.My neighbor had a similar issue. When trying to figure it out we found out that there is a problem with some of the Intel drivers when connecting to some g class routers. We upgraded the wireless drivers on the computer and bingo the problem went away. This was on an Intel-R pro wireless. If you have Intel-R pro wireless on your computer, try upgrading to the current driver set and see if that helps you too.

Several problems after installing leopard
Last week I bought a new hard drive (WD 250GB 5400rpm) so I put the older one on a external case and installed the new one. A couple of days later I bought leopard and installed that. I have since had several problems. Whenever I power on my computer with the usb external drive (that used to be my internal hd but I erased it but it is still a GUID partition map). It will freeze for about 30-45 seconds and when I am able to control the mouse again My external drive doesn't show up. Also with the hd plugged in photo booth will not work. I just get a black screen with a camera with a line in it. All of these troubles go away though if I power up the macbook without the drive plugged in. once I plug it in it is shown on my desktop. Can anyone help me?

I click on forgot the answers , they send me check your email , I check my email and they send me the password that I have already entered not the answers of the questions ! My ipad2 won't accept my apple password for new app install. I've tried several time and get a pop up "unknown error". Help?
Sign out of your account, restart the iPad and then sign in again.
Settings>iTunes & App Store>Apple ID. Tap your ID and sign out. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
Go back to Settings>iTunes & App Store>Sign in and then try again. -
Problem installing Flash MX04 after new OS install
Hello,
I have just installed WIN XP Pro that came with SP2 on my
notebook. I am trying to install my Studio MX04 suite but when It
gets to flash MX 04, it gets to 95 percent of the install and
shoots an error out.
The error is the following:
Unhandled Exception
Error Number: 0x80040703
Description: Failed to find dll function:
Macromedia_Licensing_Installer.CdaSysInstallEx2
Setup will now terminate.
This message comes after being 95% completed according to the
install progress bar.
Background:
The notebook is a HP Pavilion zd7160us with 512 MB RAM and
2.8 GB Processor
Totally new clean install of Win XP Pro with SP2 (just
purchased)
Legal copy of Studio MX 2004 (just installing again after
wipping the other OS off)
DW, FW, FHMXa, and Extention Manager all installed without a
hitch.
Was installed previously on same notebook with XP home.
I have found other forums where people are having this same
problem but with no resolution to the problem, and all of the
inquiries seem to be linked to SP2.
I would really like it if someone knew why this is happening
and how to fix it.

BobI seemed to have solved my issue!
For some reason there was a Flash MX 2004 folder in my
system, there should not have been because I formated the drive
when I installed the new OS. But I deleted that Flash folder as
suggested in another forum and the install went through fine. I am
now downloading the updater 7.02

You're not saying what problems you have with OE, so how should anyone guess?
There is no such thing as a 'Thunderbird account'. You do have an account with your email provider. You can use OE or Thunderbird to access that account.
But Thunderbird is not your email provider. -

This is the error message that happens when you try and update a jailbroken phone.

I am considering installing the latest version of OSX Mountain Lion but am concerned by the number of users that have had severe problems. Has Apple sorted this out?
As I told you, you have to do some steps before upgrading to OS X Mountain Lion.
First of all, make a backup of your files using Time Machine and/or Carbon Copy Cloner. If you make both, good, but if you only make one, it's OK, too.
OS X Lion and OS X Mountain Lion aren't compatible with PowerPC applications, so you have to check if your applications are compatible > http://www.roaringapps.com If you have to update an application, do it before upgrading, because the Mountain Lion installer moves unsupported applications to a separate folder.
After doing that, open Disk Utility, select "Macintosh HD" in the sidebar and repair permissions. Then, verify the disk to check if it's OK. If everything is right, just open the App Store and purchase OS X Mountain Lion
