Several problems with histograms and display

Hi,
I'm in the process of moving from Lightroom to Aperture 2.1, and I'm far enough up the learning curve to start working on images. I'm noticing several things:
- sometimes, changing an adjustment setting can make all or part of the image blank out (to black). Usually this does not carry over to fullscreen mode, but it is very difficult to "flush" in normal mode
- I've lost the histogram in the levels brick. Whatever I try it won't come back
- the main histogram frequently disappears for up to 10 secs
- the histogram reacts very slowly to changes in adjustments, unlike in Lightroom where it gives instant feedback
- the loupe starts reacting slowly after I apply a few adjustments to an image
Is this normal ? I'm using Aperture 2.1, on a new MacBook Pro 2.5Ghz with GeForce8600M GT graphics card and 4Gb RAM. All images so far are Olympus ORF, either E-400 or E-3.

I found out, how it was going wrong.
When the applet started, it didn't start with the method init(), as it should do, it started with the constructor. Because there was no document the method childCount() throws a exception. After this, the method init() startet reading the file and started the constructor again, but the results were not shown.
After knowing this I decided to write the Applet again and now it's working fine.

    Since I upgrade my iphone 3gs to ios 5.1, I have several problems with network and wi-fi, any solution? (No jailbreak)
    Most of the time the iphone cannot reach any network and when it can, there is no data transfer, I can only make calls and sms.

  • Severe problem with installing and starting Audio-DVD Pla

    Hi,
    after installing the new drivers (SBAX_PCDRV_LB_2_8_000.exe) for my Audigy2ZS in XP SP3 i had np mic boost and the mixer did not show the mic as an selectable source. So i rolled back to my old drivers and after that i have problems with installing and starting the Audio DVD Player. I tried so far: uninstalling everything like its said solution ID 72, checking HD for corrupted files and i did a repair installation of XP. Nothing helped. When i only install the drivers and the DVD Audio Player from the original CD everything is fine until the reboot adter installation. When the OS tries to start the "chkcolor.exe" the PC instantly reboots. When preventing XP from doing so, there is no reboot, but as soon i want to start the DVD Audio Player a reboot occurs again. When i try to uninstall the DVD Audio Player before unstillaing the drivers, the is also a reboot. First uninstalling the drivers and then the DVD Audio Player, there is no reboot.
    Any ideas?
    Best regards and thank in advance,

  • Problems with parsing and display a XML-File

    Hi,
    I'm working on an applet to read a XML-file, display the content in a JTree, in order to modify and save it again. I found this tutorial: http://java.sun.com/webservices/jaxp/dist/1.1/docs/tutorial/dom/index.html
    I took this example http://java.sun.com/webservices/jaxp/dist/1.1/docs/tutorial/dom/work/DomEcho02.java and modified it, to run it as an applet.
    I changed the method main into:
    public class EditorTest extends JApplet {
    public void init(){
         DocumentBuilderFactory factory = DocumentBuilderFactory.newInstance();
         try {
              DocumentBuilder builder = factory.newDocumentBuilder();
              File file = new File("/path/inhalt.xml");
              document = builder.parse(file);
         } catch (SAXException sxe) {
              // Error generated during parsing)
              Exception     x = sxe;
              if (sxe.getException() != null)
                   x = sxe.getException();
              x.printStackTrace();
         catch (ParserConfigurationException pce) {
              // Parser with specified options can't be built
              pce.printStackTrace();
         } catch (IOException ioe) {
              // I/O error
              ioe.printStackTrace();
         makeWindow(); //equals makeFrame(); in the tutorial
    } //initThe method makeWindow() looks like this:
    private Container container;
    private void makeWindow(){
         container = getContentPane();
         JDesktopPane desktop = new JDesktopPane();
         final EditorTest echoPanel = new EditorTest();
         JMenuBar menuBar = MakeMenuBar();  //returns a JMenuBar with a few items in it
         container.add(menuBar, BorderLayout.NORTH);
    }The constructor:
    public DomEcho02() {
         // Set up the tree
         JTree tree = new JTree(new DomToTreeModelAdapter());
         // Build left-side view
         JScrollPane treeView = new JScrollPane(tree);
         treeView.setPreferredSize( new Dimension( leftWidth, windowHeight ));
         // Build right-side view
         final JEditorPane htmlPane = new JEditorPane("text/html","");
         htmlPane.setEditable(true);
         JScrollPane htmlView = new JScrollPane(htmlPane);
         htmlView.setPreferredSize(new Dimension( rightWidth, windowHeight ));
         // Build split-pane view
         JSplitPane splitPane = new JSplitPane( JSplitPane.HORIZONTAL_SPLIT, treeView, htmlView );
         splitPane.setContinuousLayout( true );
         splitPane.setDividerLocation( leftWidth );
         splitPane.setPreferredSize( new Dimension( windowWidth + 10, windowHeight+10 ));
         // Add GUI components
         this.setLayout(new BorderLayout());
         this.add("Center", splitPane );
    } // ConstructorI didn't change the class AdapterNode and DomToTreeModelAdapter. When I change the line "JTree tree = new JTree(new DomToTreeModelAdapter());" into "JTree tree = new JTree();", the applet starts and display a standard-JTree, as it ist generated by the constructor. If I want to display my own Tree the applet fails. When I start it with the appletviewer I get this message:

  • Problem with creating and displaying images in a thread

    Hi everyone,
    i need some bit of advice (of course otherwise i wouldn't write anything here). My situation is like this:
    I have a JFrame where the user can enter a string. Then a file that corresponds to this string is read and the information is stored in objects, then these two objects (there are always 2 objects per file) are passed to an ImageCreator class that creates one image with the information found in each object. So per file there are always two images created. Now the thing is that after creating the images i need to display them for 10 seconds each, but as it takes about 2 seconds to create each image i would like to start showing the first one already while the second one is still being created. As i am not really experienced with threads i wonder what would be the best way to manage something like this. Here is a little bit of code, which is still in a rather pseudo code state...if(checkPattern(scanField.getText()) &&
          fc.getFile(createFilename(scanField.getText())) != null)
          BufferedImage img = null;
          ImageDisplay display = new ImageDisplay(scanField.getText(), this);
          for (int i=1; i<3; i++) {
          Info info = tReader.readTelegramForOneInfo(createFilename(scanField.getText()));
          if(i==1)
            info.setError(ew.getProperty(info.getMTNr1(), info.getLack()));
          if(i==2)
            info.setError(ew.getProperty(info.getMTNr2(), info.getLack()));
            iCreator.setHashtable(info);
            iCreator.setWhichMatNr(i);
            img = iCreator.createImage(false);
            if(i == 1)
                //here i would like to start showing the first image
                display.showImage(img);
          //thats an older version where i displayed both images after they had been
          //created.
          //Thread t = new Thread(new ImageDisplay(scanField.getText(), this));
          //t.start();
          //here i would like to show the second image.
          display.showImage(img);
          scanField.setText("");
        else
           doSomethingElse();
        }I hope you can help me.
    Thanks!

    All actual drawing opertations should occur on the dispatcher thread. When the first image is ready you could use SwingUtiltiies.invokeLater() to place a task on the dispatcher thread to draw the image e.g.
    final BufferedImage img = iCreator.createImage(false);
    if(i == 1)
      SwingUtilities.invokeLater(new Runnable() {
         public void run() {
           display.showImage(img);
       });(Both the variables uses in run() must be final.
    But it's probably better to have a java.awt.Component of some kind for each image to be displayed, and whose paint method does the actual rendering, if the image is ready (is blank otherwise). Then, when the image is ready you need only call repaint on the components.

  • Problem with JTextPane and StateInvariantError

    Hi. I am having a problem with JTextPanes and changing only certain text to bold. I am writing a chat program and would like to allow users to make certain text in their entries bold. The best way I can think of to do this is to add <b> and </b> tags to the beginning and end of any text that is to be bold. When the other client receives the message, the program will take out all of the <b> and </b> tags and display any text between them as bold (or italic with <i> and </i>). I've searched the forums a lot and figured out several ways to make the text bold, and several ways to determine which text is bold before sending the text, but none that work together. Currently, I add the bold tags with this code: (note: messageDoc is a StyledDocument and messageText is a JTextPane)
    public String getMessageText() {
              String text = null;
              boolean bold = false, italic = false;
              for (int i = 0; i < messageDoc.getLength(); i++) {
                   messageText.setCaretPosition(i);
                   if (StyleConstants.isBold(messageDoc.getCharacterElement(i).getAttributes()) && !bold) {
                        bold = true;
                        if (text != null) {
                             text = text + "<b>";
                        else {
                             text = "<b>";
                   else if (StyleConstants.isBold(messageDoc.getCharacterElement(i).getAttributes()) && bold) {
                        // Do nothing
                   else if (!StyleConstants.isBold(messageDoc.getCharacterElement(i).getAttributes()) && bold) {
                        bold = false;
                        if (text != null) {
                             text = text + "</b>";
                        else {
                             text = "</b>";
                   try {
                        if (text != null) {
                             text = text + messageDoc.getText(i,1);
                        else {
                             text = messageDoc.getText(i, 1);
                   catch (BadLocationException e) {
                        System.out.println("An error occurred while getting the text from the message document");
                        e.printStackTrace();
              return text;
         } // end getMessageText()When the message is sent to the other client, the program searches through the received message and changes the text between the bold tags to bold. This seems as if it should work, but as soon as I click on the bold button, I get a StateInvariantError. The code for my button is:
    public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent evt) {
              if (evt.getSource() == bold) {
                   MutableAttributeSet bold = new SimpleAttributeSet();
                   StyleConstants.setBold(bold, true);
                   messageText.getStyledDocument().setCharacterAttributes(messageText.getSelectionStart(), messageText.getSelectionStart() - messageText.getSelectionEnd() - 1, bold, false);
         } //end actionPerformed()Can anyone help me to figure out why this error is being thrown? I have searched for a while to figure out this way of doing what I'm trying to do and I've found out that a StateInvariantError has been reported as a bug in several different circumstances but not in relation to this. Or, if there is a better way to add and check the style of the text that would be great as well. Any help is much appreciated, thanks in advance.

    Swing related questions should be posted in the Swing forum.
    Can't tell from you code what the problem is because I don't know the context of how each method is invoked. But it would seem like you are trying to query the data in the Document while the Document is being updated. Try wrapping the getMessageText() method is a SwingUtilities.invokeLater().
    There is no need to write custom code for a Bold Action you can just use:
    JButton bold = new JButton( new StyledEditorKit.BoldAction() );Also your code to build the text String is not very efficient. You should not be using string concatenation to append text to the string. You should be using a StringBuffer or StringBuilder.

  • Problem with writing and reading using serialization

    I am having a problem with writing and reading an object that has another object in it. The purpose of the class is to write a order that has multiple items in it. And there will be several orders. This is for an IB project, where one of the requirements is to utilize a hierarchical composite data structure. That is, it is "one that contains more than one element and at least one of the elements is a composite data structure. Examples are, an array or linked list of records, a record that has one field that is another record, or an array". The code is shown below:

  • Problem with Frameset and page session

    All,
    I am having a problem with Framesets and page session attributes. I
    have a client who's application uses a three frame frameset. They
    have a requirement on several pages that when a button is pushed two
    different pages load into the right and left frames. The way they
    are accomplishing this is that on the pages were this is required,
    they are adding target="_top" to the form declaration in their JSP.
    Then they store the page names they want to display in session,
    forward the request to the frameset, the frameset then determines
    which pages to display based on the session variables. This works
    exactly how they want it to.
    Here is our problem. We need to store some information in page
    session attributes. We have tried to get a handle to the desired
    view bean and call the setPageSessionAttribute method. However,
    since we are forwarding to the frame and the frame handles displaying
    the desired JSP, that view bean we had the handle to is not the one
    that is created to hand the display of the JSP.
    The next thing I tried was to use the request object. In the
    handleBtnRequest method, I set an attribute in the request object. I
    then query the request object in the beginDisplay event of the view
    bean. When the frame is reset the request object does not contain
    the attribute that I have set. I'm confused by this because I
    thought the request object would be available to me throughout the
    life of the request.
    Given the above information, does anyone have any suggestions? Also,
    am I going about this in the wrong manner.
    The client had been storing this information in user session, which
    seemed to work. However, since the data being stored dealt
    specifically with data for the requested page, we felt that storing
    it as page session was more appropriate.
    Thanks,

    The script on your page web page has some obvious bugs.. Best
    fix those
    first before looking to blame Flash.

  • Several Problems with the GeForce3 Ti200

    I am having several problems with my GeForce3 Ti200 card.  First, anytime I click on the MSI Clock or MSI Information tabs in the Display Properties Window, it gives me the following error message:
    "Run a DLL as an App has encountered a problem and needs to close.  We are sorry for the inconvenience."
    Once I close that message, the tabs disappear until I reopen the Display Properties window again.  I have updated the drivers to the most recent version and still the same problem.
    Next....When the additional nVidia drivers load...ie NVidea WDM A/V Crossbar...etc...  All load fine except the one titled nVidia WDM Video Capture (universal).  Once again, I have downloaded the most recent drivers and none would help.  Here is my system information:
    798 Mhz AMD Athlon
    512 MG memory
    Windows XP Version 2002 SP1
    Creative SP Live
    NEC Multisunc 95
    TDK CDRW Generic DVD
    Hard Drive WD 60Gig
    Any help would be great!!

    I have finally succeeded in making my video capture work.
    However, not without a few more headaches.  My "Double Image - Half Height" capture was my own stupidity....  I had the captures set for 30 fps -- setting them to 29.97 fixed that.
    BUT I found this out when I had the latest nVidia display drivers (53.03) paired with the latest nVidia WDM drivers (2.20).  The glorious full-height, single-frame screen capture had a bright white strip across the video approximately 1/3 of the total height.
    You have to understand that I've been Googling this problem for several days...  The one thing I think I've found out is that _Nobody_, including MSI, nVidia (especially nVidia!), or anywhere else, has really solved the problems people are having with these WDM drivers.
    So here are the reasons I found out there for a White Bar across the picture:
    (1) Improper installation of drivers - this supposedly causes a problem with 720 X 480 captures only.  I had the bar on 640 X 480 captures as well.
    (2) nVidia has gotten into bed with Bill Gate$(Micro$oft), Jack Valenti(Hollywood) and others to "protect digital rights".  Newer versions of the WDM drivers (since which version? Does anyone know?) PUT the white bar across the video on purpose if the video you are capturing is copyrighted.  The thing is, I was capturing an 8mm home video!
    So, you decide, reason 1 or reason 2...  I decided to try for #2.
    I uninstalled WDM 2.20, ran the DriverCleaner2, and installed WDM 1.08 drivers.  Guess what?  No white bar.  Now I can capture with Wincoder, VirtualDub, or Director's Cut 6.5.  This is with nVidia Display Drivers 53.03 and WDM drivers 1.08 installed.  I'm now thinking of the folks at nVidia the same way I think of Bill G and Jack V;  they are all a bunch of rich, greedy scumbags.   It is OK with them if they sacrifice your home videos in the name of their wealth.

  • Problem with dreamweaver and Flash

    Hi, maybe someone can help me, i have any problem with
    dreamweaver and flash, i have a page and i have a menu and
    sub-menu, and the same page i have a category en flash 550 x 700 (
    photography and more... ) but when the menu to unfold
    the menu to see under flash and it cant see ( sorry my
    english is bad.... i hope you can understand me, and help me.. )
    i dont now why always flash ever stay up, or first, and
    another information under flash... this a problem... if you have
    menus...
    thanks.... have nice day.....

    This is a drawback of using flash or any other active
    content. By default, all active content including flash will
    display over every other content and thats why your menu stays
    under the flash movie. Some people make the flash background
    transparent to show content under the flash movie, but that will
    not work for menu items.
    I would suggest that you make the menu such that it does not
    overlap with the flash movie.

  • Problem with PremiereProCS5 and AfterEffectsCS5 Dinamic Link!

    Problem with PremiereProCS5 and AfterEffectsCS5 Dinamic Link!
    I installed PremiereProCS4, and after, "Adobe Master Collection Suite CS5" in Italian Language, with PremiereProCS5 and AfterEffectsCS5 on OS Windows7x64Bit.
    I made a first composition with AfterEffects, from PremierePro by choosing "Adobe Dinamic Link">"Replace with AE Composition".
    After that, I made another second version of the same project, directly with AfterEffects.
    I want replace this AE version with existing version, in PremierePro.
    Thus, I selected "Adobe Dinamic Link">"Import AE Composition".
    1) But, the problem is that the new, fresh AE composition is not found!
    The Dinamic Link, in PremierePro, doesn't refresh the window where it is located the new AE Composition called "n°2" made last with AE, (not with DynamicLink)!
    There are available 3 files, that I made, but all the files display only the old composition called "n°1", made with DynamicLink, and with "Replace with AE Composition" command!
    The composition made with AE directly, is not displayed!
    Why?
    In fact, I tried to right click the clip, in PremiereProCS5 timeline, choosed "Replace with Clip">"From Folder" and selected the last imported AE composition: the composition is allways the OLD file made with DynamicLink, not the file made directly with AE!
    Why?
    Help!
    Horsepower0171.

    "...or if you must use multiple projects, start each one from scratch instead of duplicating and renaming..."
    Yes!
    I made from scratch these new projects with AECS5, called:
         "Montaggio_02_CS5_04_Franzi_AECS5 - Composizione collegata 02.avi" and
         "Montaggio_02_CS5_04_Franzi_AECS5 - Composizione collegata 03.avi",
    not renamed, nor duplicated.
    -But PremierePro and DynamicLink doesn't display those in the window!

  • Problem with Java and Windows (Mainly Vista and UAC)

    Hi all,
    I am having a problem with a program that I've devoloped. The program itself is packaged as a jar and I plan to deploy it across multiple platforms eventually however right now i am only concerned about windows based systems. I have made an installer for a windows baised systems using NSIS to install the software files. I made the installer as I need several java packages to be installed so the program would work (JAI, J3D, JAI ImageIO) and I also require the program to have fileassociations on windows.
    I know that this is not what java is about, however the majority of the users will be on windows baised systems so I've decided that OS specific installers is the best option.
    During the process I have noticed that there are several key problem with java for this type of application!
    The first issue that I have come across is getting file associations to work on java. As a .jar is not an excutable it is not possible to directly associate a filetype with it in java so to overcome this I currently run the program from a .bat files and also the program requires large memory so this also allows me to run the program with -xmx. The batch file that I use is :
    <code>
    cd PATH TO PROGRAM
    start javaw -Dsun.java2d.noddraw=true -Xmn100M -Xms500M -Xmx1000M -jar "PATH TO PROGRAM\program.jar" %1 -vram 134217728
    pause;
    </code>
    Ok so all this appears to work fine and allows windows to have file associations and start the program and thats all works perfectly but this is a non-ideal solution. Has anyone got any advice on improving this?
    The next problem that I have appears to be a problem with Vista and UAC (user access control). When a user installs the program and installs the program into the program files directory I found that the program did not work and kept saying that I did not have access to the files in the current directory. This is a problem as I read and write settings files during program execution.
    On a Vista system UAC prevents file write operations into the Program Files directory unless the program has requested elevated status even if the user is a full administrator. The probem is that there appears to be no real way to achieve this under java that I'm aware of...
    Has anyone else had this probem and has a suitable solution?
    Any advice on these issues would realy be appricated.
    Regards
    Joey

    Ok so i've kinda found a solution, its not ideal but its very good. I found this program called Elevate
    A link to the site I got it was
    http://www.wintellect.com/cs/blogs/jrobbins/archive/2007/03/27/elevate-a-process-at-the-command-line-in-vista.aspx
    This program allows you start java with a UAC dialog for high access using
    Elevate java -jar myjar.jar
    This then allows you to have full access using java... I guess it could be dangerous but it does the job.

  • I have a problem with Java and an e-procurement system integrating

    I use an e-procurement system at work and yesterday I could not get my parts list from the suppliers web site to display in our in-house eprocurment finance package.
    There is not a problem with the finance package. There is not a problem with the suppliers web site. I have verified both of these by other colleagues being able to complete what I am trying to do.
    The difference between my version of Firefox and my colleagues' is that I am on version 6.0.1 and they are on 6.0.
    I have had problems with Java not displaying certain animations on the suppliers web site but, my colleague does not and I am suspicious that this is the problem. Can anyone verify this please and what can I do about it. My Java updates are up-to-date as of yesterday and are automatic.
    Thanks.

    I was quite amazed I never got a reply to this, in the past people here have been helpful. In any case I was finally able to enter this website on the exceptions list in the Java panel, and I believe it is okay  now.
