Several white spots in the middle of the display, please help!

Hello!
I've already searched through the discussions and found some people with similiar display issues. But I just had to post this question because I'm panicing.
I turned on my MacBook Pro 1.83 (It's from July '06) today just to notice a white spot at the right center of the display. At first I thought it was just some smear from a fingertipp, but it wouldn't go away. So I changed my wallpaper from the colourful one I have to a solid light grey default wallpaper.
Then I noticed that I have 6 ! spots all forming a circle in the middle of the screen.
I've been treating my MacBook Pro like a baby and mostly at home. Right now I'm using it exclusively at home because it's now semester break for my University. So it wasn't moved. Just sitting on my desk.
Does anybody know if Apple will repair this? I'm still in the first year, obviously and have bought the Care Protection Plan. So I have 3 years.
Some of the people here and on the net seem to have theirs repaired under warranty. But with display, you never know what they'll say.
Any help and answers appreciated!
Greetings from Germany.
MacBook White 1,83 Ghz   Mac OS X (10.4.7)   Early model from July '06

I have now spoken to a local store which does repairs for Apple here.
(Funny thing: in Germany you can't send the Notebooks back to Apple for repairs anymore. You have to go to a Service Provider, which could be a problem outside of big cities.)
He's says it's a known problem which will be covered by the warranty:
so if this happen to any of you, don't panic like me: Apple will repair it.
Now I hope my replacement screen won't have any pixel failures.

I would like to inquire about how I could have my iPad 2 repaired or replaced. I bought it With a credit card via apple store website last June 19 of this year. At first, I already noticed a little white spot in the middle of the screen visible when the display on screen is dark. I thought this was okay. Now, My problem with it is that, it now has green discolorations at the center whenever the screen display is black or dark I.e. When a website's color is black or dark or whenever I go to the search interface.
    I am from the Philippines.
Please attend to this inquiry as promptly as possible. I'm sorry I have to send it here since I cannot see any email or inquiry page on the apple website. I also cannot reach the toll free number on my mobile phone.
    Thank you very much.

  • "Bright Spot" in the middle of the display.

    Hello...
A few months ago, my iBook's screen appears to have developed a "bright spot" closer to the middle of the screen. This bright spot appears to be a vertical line that vaguely resembles an exclamation mark. It's definitely not a group of dead or stuck pixels, but it's looks a lot like the "white spots" that some early 15" Aluminum Powerbooks had, maybe not as intense: http://www.apple.com/support/powerbook/displayprogram/
I might want to ask for a screen replacement. But my problem here is: I bought this iBook when it came out last summer in Canada. Right now, I’m not in Canada, and I asked the local Apple Service Center about the warranty. They said that they don’t cover any Mac that wasn’t bought from the region they belong to. This contradicts Apple’s international warranty for its portables.
My question here is: Is my iBook’s screen eligible for replacement in the first place? If it is, how am I supposed to deal with the local Apple Service Center?
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi Voidness,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions
I don't know if it will be covered by Apple's One (1) Year Limited Warranty. It says,
"Apple or its Apple Authorized Service Providers will provide warranty service on products that are tendered or presented for service during the Warranty Period, as permitted by law. If the product is portable, meaning that it can operate independently without a power cord, you may obtain warranty service worldwide. However, service will be limited to the options available in the country where service is requested."
You may want to call Apple and see what an Apple representative says.

Reinstall OS X without erasing the drive
    Do the following:
    1. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
    2. Reinstall Snow Leopard
If the drive is OK then quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed with reinstalling OS X.  Note that the Snow Leopard installer will not erase your drive or disturb your files.  After installing a fresh copy of OS X the installer will move your Home folder, third-party applications, support items, and network preferences into the newly installed system.
Download and install the Combo Updater for the version you prefer from support.apple.com/downloads/.

  • Do I have to live with dark/dead pixels with my new 15" MBP? Yesterday I bought one and have one dark spot in the middle of the screen.

    Hello
Yesterday I bought a 15" MBP and found a dark spot in the middle of its screen right away while in the 1st-time-welcome-boot. What a welcome. Do I have to live with it? It is exactly one pixel missing its yellow subpixel. It would be ok if it would be in some corner - but its right in the middle of the screen. Suggestions/experiences in this matter anyone?

Thanks for your suggestions - took it back - got a new, mint, shiny one

  • White line in the middle of the screen

    Hi,
I have an iPod classic (80 GB). Yesterday a white line appeared in the middle of the screen (from right to left). Is the screen caput? Also, if I have it less than a year, am I covered by Apple?
    Thanks.

Yes if you have not owned it for a full year yet it is covered under the Standard Manufacture Warranty.
Please either call iPod Support for assistance and or make an appointment at your local Apple Retail.

  • Hey ppl,my macbook is not booting and by that i mean u can hear the audio wave when its starting up,the screen goes white and then after a while there's a folder with a question mark in the middle of the screen...anyone,any ideea?!?

Hey ppl,my macbook is not booting and by that i mean u can hear the audio wave when its starting up,the screen goes white and then after a while there's a folder with a question mark in the middle of the screen...anyone,any ideea?!?Regards.

That folder with the question mark icon means that the MacBook can't find the boot directory. That can either mean it can't find the hard drive or the hard drive data is somehow corrupted.
Put your install DVD into the drive and reboot. As soon as you hear the boot chime, hold down the "c" key on your keyboard (or the Option key until the Install Disk shows up). That will force your MacBook to boot from the optical drive.
Once it has finished booting and you are at the Install screen launch Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. Is your Hard Drive in the list on the left?
If it is then select the First Aid Tab run Repair Disk and if that repairs any problems run it again until the green OK appears and then run Repair Permissions.
If your hard drive isn’t recognized in Disk Utility then your hard drive is probably dead.

    It's just Adobe's page background.

A lot of songs on my Iphone are cutting off several minutes short, and some are just skipping to the next song in the middle of the current song. Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated.

Go to http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/ and then click contact iTunes Store Support. Then find your issue in the categories and then it will most likely take you to a page with suggested things to do but also on this page should be an option to e-mail them. Just explain your problem and also have the names of the songs that you are having problems with listed in the e-mail so they can help you more quickly. They usually get back to you within 24 hours.

If you've had it for less than a year, then it's still under warranty.  Take it to an Apple store or an authorized service facility.  See http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1434
