Severe battery drain after last verizon update

After the last update for my phone I have been experiencing around 10% battery drain an hour with moderate to low usage.  I have already done 2 factory resets and formatting my SD card.  I have disabled GPS, WIFI, Global access, Google now and everything else that i can find that could cause a drain.  I have even gone and disabled/uninstalled all apps that I don't use.  That didn't fix anything.  I started to suspect that my battery was bad.  Ordered a new from Samsung and charged it all night on there spare battery charger before using it.  It actually seems to be draining even faster, after 45 minutes I was already at 88%.  During that period I sent about a dozen texts and checked email and the weather.   So I don't believe its the battery.  Any suggestions to help resolve this will be greatly appreciated.

likegod04, thank for posting. Are you still having battery issues? If so, then next option will be to replace the device. How long have you had it? Is there any physical or water damaged done to the phone?^SP

  • Severe battery drain after AT&T sim card replacement.

Up to a point, my wife's original iPhone worked fine. A week ago, it stopped connecting to the AT&T network, and after a call, we found out that someone at a retail store made an error when registering an upgrade to a 3g, and somehow started the process on my wife's account, which killed the sim card. I ran to the local AT&T store and they replaced the sim card for free, and all seemed well.
However, since then, her phone has been suffering from a severe battery drain. I have made sure that wi-fi, bluetooth, and location services are turned off, but it will not last 10 hours in standby mode after a full charge anymore (she makes no calls during the day - just leaves it in her purse on standby). I have tried a full restore of the software/firmware, and she is running the latest 2.02. Is there anyone who can help?

Sorry, no, that's not the issue. First, it's a 1st gen iPhone. Second, as I said in the question, I've already turned off every other unnecessary service on the phone. Basically, it's sitting in her purse on standby during the day, just as a phone, and draining from a full charge to nothing in about 9 hours. The problem only started after getting a new AT&T sim card. I'm wondering if anyone else has heard of this problem.

  • Battery drain after last update (5.4.0.4165)

After last update battery consumption went up to 40%, reinnstalled and it dropped to 26%. But that is still way too high. Especially since I barely use it on my phone..

    Hello, skypeisawfull-,
Thanks for submitting feedback about the battery life of Skype for Android. The developers of the app are making great strides to improve the functionality and other aspects, including battery life, so that it runs better for its users!
Skype, by nature, does use more battery than many other apps. It should be understood that it has to constantly contact Skype's servers in order to receive incoming call, chat and contact data. You can reduce the amount of battery usage by closing some other apps that you do not use, reducing screen use time, ensuring that you are in areas with good reception (because cell standby greatly reduces battery) and rebooting the phone after a day or two can make a difference in your battery life.
Remember that the development team has surely made it a priority to make the app consume less battery and kill off the bugs that cause that. They probably have more in store, so just you wait and see! Things could be looking good! With you posting this, they'll take notice and probably work to reduce that 26% usage to something lower in later updates!
Thanks for the feedback - keep 'em coming!

  • Samsung GS3 Battery Drain after 4.3 update

    Greetings,
If you aren't already aware, there is a serious flaw in the most recent update to the Samsung Galaxy S3. The 4.3 update causes a serious issue with battery drain, screen responsiveness and some apps not functioning properly. If you search for this issue you’ll find it’s not carrier specific. This update was originally delayed due to battery drain and other issues yet here we are with a December roll out and the same issues. I called Verizon today and they are aware of this issue but have not received a plethora of calls (yet) according to the rep I spoke to.
Bottom line, if you have not installed the update, DO NOT. Wait until a fix has been implemented. I’m lucky if I get 10 hours of light use when I could go 24 hours prior to the update. If I make a few phone calls and use any apps I am forced to charge my phone within a few hours. This is by far the worst issue I’ve ever had with this phone. Up until now everything has been quite solid. If you are having this issue please call Verizon so this can be escalated. I’m hoping a fix will be pushed out in the next couple of months or sooner. My Galaxy S3 is not rooted as I really never found a huge need to do so. Hopefully this issue will not push me in that direction. All I want is a phone that works as expected. You can try using the Deep Sleep Battery Saver app which has a free version for the time being.
May the force be with you, always…..

I noticed in December after an update that my phone was having significant battery drain issues. I also had issues with the phone suddenly shutting off when the battery wasn't even all the way ran down, but would not turn on until it was plugged in again.
Now today I received another update. This one I had no choice but to receive. The battery is once again WORSE. I hate the new look on this update. Features I  used that were standard on the phone (such as T9 word) have disappeared and forced me to use an app to replace it (again, HATE that).  I realize the updates are essential to have the latest technology but I DO NOT understand why features disappear. This is so irritating I'm about to opt out of even having a smartphone all together. I got this phone when it was on the market 2 weeks. Its "old"  and my contract isnt even near up! Its ridiculous at best.

  • Battery drain after 2.2 update (Exchange Active Sync users or those who use a calendar on the phone)

A lot of folks are having "issues" with battery life after the over the air (OTA) update and there has been much speculation as to the cause.  My frustrattion level increased with each new post I read that did not reveal a resolution.  The back and forth banter about FTC complaints (that was an interesting escape from the battery problem but not very helpful), new apps running from startup (I don't like 'em either), Linux really working better with all these programs running (don't really care as long as the battery level isn't drained after an hour of just sitting on the counter) just made matters worse.
I would like to share with you my experience and hope that it helps some of you who have taken the time to read my post.  First, let me say that the cause is not due the the "bloatware" applications that were installed during the OTA update.
Secondly, the primary purpose of my handheld is for voice calls but running close behind is my need for immediate email, contacts and calendar information (which is configured through Exchange Active Sync).  If you are not using your phone with Active Sync or updating a remote calendar like Google), you can stop reading this post.
I noticed that the yin/yang (sync) icon at the top of my screen kept popping up more than usual after the update.  Looking through the items I have set to sync (Menu -> Settings -> Accounts & Sync), I reviewed all the things I have set and disabled the sync settings for the things I did not want.  After disabling the "Backup Assistant", "Google", "News", "Stocks" and "Weather", I thought for sure the issue would be resolved.  Not yet.  When those adjustments didn't change the frequency of the sync, I decided to look at the Exchange Active Sync and to my surprise, the culprit was revealed - the calendar was stuck in a sync loop (syncing over and over).  I disabled the "Sync Calendar" feature and the phone stopped it's maddening attempt to refresh the calendar.
I let the phone cool off and thought that I could get by with manually toggling the option to sync the calendar but I couldn't accept that was the only way this thing would work.  I removed the Exchange Active Sync account and created a new one.  After the new account was verified, it attempted to sync mail, contacts and calendar but this time, there was a error that occured during the calendar sync.  Instead of repeatedly attempting to re-sync, an error message that stated "Client/Server conversion error".  At this point, the calendar sync loop was no longer a problem (wasnt' draining the battery) but now my calendar wouldn't sync at all.
To fix it, I cleared the data in the Calendar applications (Menu -> Settings -> Applications -> Manage applications -> All [tab at the top]). Scroll down the list and open each of the Calendar items and click the "Clear Data" button.
(Credit goes to "Brenny" at AndroidForums.com for the post that explains how to clear the Calendar Data)
It seems that adjustments made to events before the update were kept in the phones local storage.  After the update, the calendar data in the phone's cache was not matching my remote calendar and appears to have been the cause for my battery drain.  After performing these steps, everything is back to normal.  Good luck!

Super frustrating, I know.  Do you use Exchange Active Sync?
If so, you might be having the same issue that I've explained.  Since making the adjustments (clearing the data from the Active Sync components like mail, contacts and calendar), my battery life is back to normal.
Try clearing the data (see first post in this thread) and let me know what happens.

  • E6 battery drain after microsoft apps update

just two days ago i updated with microsoft apps in my e6 belle. Now the battery doesn't last even a day. I went to installations in settings and tried to uninstall microsoft apps, but a pop up says 'file cannot be deleted'. How do I uninstall microsoft apps from E6 belle? Seriously upset with nokia. at this rate i will start a facebook page telling people to switch to android, with nokia anyway already suffering from the osborne effect. Really upset. Just tell me how to remove this slow and useless microsoft apps from my supposedly good business phone e6? I was much happier using the faster and more user friendly quickoffice.
Problem: need to uninstall microsoft apps (word, onenote) from E6 belle.

Can only suggest that you have a look at this resource:http://digipassion.com/2012/06/uninstall-microsoft-apps-from-symbian3-belle-phones.html
Since QuickOffice not currently compatible you might like to look at Picsel SmartOffice as an alternative..

  • Battery drain after IOS 6 update

    I and my 3 family members and two fellow employees have all noticed that since upgrading to IOS 6 on our cellphones we have had the following issues;
    1. Massive battery drain
    2. Battery heat-up during recharge with the phone on but not being used.
    3. Lost data
With the phone on and not being used - the charge level drops much faster.  I used to go the whole day on one charge and recharge at 10 pm with 30 - 40% of the charge left.  Since the IOS 6 upgrade I'm recharging at 4pm with a 10% charge remaining on the phone .
Also -  recharging the phone while it is on (but not in use) causes  noticible battery heat-up.
Again - this was not the case for any of the 6 of us prior to downloading IOS 6
My conclusion is that there are aspects of this new operating system that use a lot more battery juice than the previous IOS 5.1.1
This significantly increased demand on the battery is showing up as much less operating time and battery heat-up during recharging.
Anybody else experiencing these issues ?

Got onto Apple Teckies yesterday & spent about 1.5 hours on the phone with a very helpfull bloke
    that went through everything.
At this stage my phone has been reinstalled with iOS 6 as a New Phone (Like a test mode) so NONE
of my APP's or Settings only my Contacts from iCloud (As a New phone would come out of the box).
... From the time we finished uploading the iOS 6 softwear untill now my phone has only used 40%
    battery so it's looking good.
If this works I then have to conect my phone with my iTunes & Reinstall from my Back Up to get all
    My App's & Settings back.
... Then we will see if it has worked.
... Will let you all know what happens in the next 48 Hours.

  • Heavy Battery Drain after updating to 8.1 Lumia Cy...

After updating my Lumia 1520 to 8.1 Cyan update, the battery drain is very high. The battery is lasting only for 6 to 7 hours when the data traffic is on  (under  mixed use of 2G and 3G modes). I have noticed few other users were also experiencing heavy battery drain after the Cyan update.
Will there be an update to fix this battery drain issue?
When the phone was in WP 8 Lumia Black update, battery backup was around 24-30 hrs (when data traffic was on).
What will be the workaround for this?

Yep, my 1520 battery drains like a helicopter that's lost it's rotor after this 8.1 update.
I was just boasting last weekend how awesome the battery life was on this phone, I drove 300mi with the GPS w/navigation, did some tethering to my laptop for work, went overnight..no charging, used lightly all the next day, few pictures, email, browsing, phone calls, and drove 300mi back on GPS/navigation and I still had 38% battery left.
I updated to 8.1 sunday night, and on my normal commute to a customer in another state, which under 8.0 would have drained oh...mabey 4-5%, I was at 62% by the time I got to this customer yesteday.
All I did was make a phone call, that's it. All background stuff is not allowed. location off, cortana off, ...still drains.
Bad bad bad news. I'm not seeing much usefull ness out of 8.1, and considering the battery life and no real new features....just gimmicks if you ask me, I'm not sure I want to stay at 8.1 . I'm trying to give it a chance...battery life is still better than my POS samsung androids I've had in the past, but knowing how good it really can be...and no real features in 8.1 (I was hopeing they'd fix the imap email not allowed to map sent/trash/inbox issue)....eshh...what a mess it seems.

  • Battery drain after update to 10.2

i noticed high battery drain after i have updated to 10.2. i charged phone to 100% yesterday at 16:00 and now 17h later it is 61%. - i wrote 4 sms'es, 1 short phone call, and that's all. i tried restart few times, checked out if network settings are same as before, nothing helps.
battery application is estimating discharging speed at level of 1% every 24 min. before at the same usage it was at least 50 mins. i heard 10.2 has better battery efficiency, but not for me. anyone has similar experiences after update?

Double check that your Network settings are how you want them as after an upgrade they have a habit of changing.
On my Verizon phone it redefaulted to Global which really burned my battery instead of limiting it to LTE/CDMA, once I changed it back battery life was back (or better) than previously.

  • IOS 7.0.2 update causes overheating and severe battery drain

IOS 7.0.2 update causes overheating and severe battery drain. Before the update my 4S battery life can reached up to 2days  now the battery won’t last longer than 2 hours or less especially when its overheat.
Apple should release another update to fix their problem ASAP, also Apple should replace our 4S unit because our battery now is degraded and probably some of the parts are damage because of the extreme overheating caused by Apple update…
Anyone who can tweak this issue please post..
    Thanks

We also had an issue with IOS 7 refusing to accept the Apple ID and password (not the passcode) and this update appears to have fixed that as well. This problem surfaced on my wife's and my son's ioPhone, but not on mine.

  • Severe battery drain with iOS 8.1.2

I am having severe battery drain issues with iOS 8.1.2 with all my iOS devices (iPhone 6, iPhone 5s, iPad Mini Retina, iPad Air). I can have my device in DND mode overnight with 100% battery, then the following morning I will wake up to find my device down to 20%. The battery usage graph shows nothing abnormal, just very rapid battery drain. What gives?! I saw a couple other threads mentioning this issue. I have attempted Network Reset and verifying Bluetooth is off, but this is just crazy. Anyone else get a resolution on this or experience this after iOS 8.1.2?

tldr; Check the secd process on your Mac. If it is consuming greater than 50MB of memory...turn off Keychain sync on ALL your devices.
    The Full Story
The last few months I've had instances where my iPhone would start getting really hot in my pocket, and the battery would drain at 3x the speed. After much research I also discovered that a process on my Mac (secd) had a vicious memory leak and that single process was consuming 13GB of memory and paging thousands of console messages. After discovering that the process was related to Keychain sync, I disabled keychain sync across all 5 of my devices. Immediately, the battery life on my iPhone was restored to normal.
After I reenabled Keychain sync across all my devices, everything would run fine for a while, but after a few weeks, the problem would resurface. And I would repeat the process of turning it off on all my devices, to effectively reset the iCloud keychain data.
Anyway, Apple does need to fix this, as it affects performance on both OSX and iOS.

After last iTunes update 3 days ago, my iPod doesn`t sync with my iTunes. What should I do?

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try another cable
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • MacBook Air 2012 Severe Battery Drains While Sleeping

    Hi there,
This isn't any new but I've looked through all posts I could.
I got a refurbished MacBook Air 2012 in July. In the first 2 weeks it worked fine (or I was noticed).
Then I noticed the battery drains fast while the system sleeps.
I have done tests in the past weeks; almost 20% of battery drain after slept a day.
I have tried everything I could: turn off PowerNap, no wake from BT devices, erase and reinstall OS
    None of above helped.
I have tried to modify hibernatemode to 25 and it worked ok; 2% of battery dropped after 12 hours.
I took this to Apple in Taiwan and they told me they couldn't do anything about it because they think it's software conflicts which does't really have a solution but wait for OS updates. They did run a diagnostic and everything turns out to be fine.
I just did reinstall the OS again and I'll see whats going on tomorrow morning.
If still not getting better I will just use hibernatemode 25.
Anything recommandation is more than welcome.
    Thanks.
    My OS version is 10.8.3.

Tried hibernatemode to 25 and still not helpful at all.
Battery drained 8% after 10 hours of sleep while mode 25 should put my macbook air into deep sleep and consume very minimal power.

  • Enormous battery drain after 3.01 upgrade

    guys and gals,
anyone of you experiencing a huge spike in battery drain after upgrading to firmware 3.01? On 3.0 my iphone 3gs had no probs but after my upgrade last night he ran out of juice within a few hours while I was sleeping. This morning I recharged it but an hour later the phone is allready down to 80% and feeling warm. I guess there is something running in the background but I cant figure out what. Turning the phone on/off doesnt seem to do a thing. Any ideas or personal experiences?

I did what you said in your 2nd post, and recharged the battery. after 6 hours, it was the charge was still at 100%!
then I used an app, IM+ Push for a few minutes and had disabled the Push functionality before quitting it. after an hour, I noticed that the battery issue was back. so deleted the said app, and the battery levels returned to normal.
This evening I re-installed the app, disabled the push functionality again and made sure to set my IM account to off before quitting. the problem hasn't re-occurred since then.
hope that this helps someone else who's having the same issue.
