Severe Incompatibility between Mac Pro 2012 power supply and Tripp Lite 2400 watt Line Conditioner [switching transformer].

Severe Incompatibility between Mac Pro 2012 power supply and Tripp Lite LC2400 [switching transformer].
The Mac Pro will not power on when connected to the Tripp Lite LC2400. The Power Supply makes continuous clicking noises and repeatedly resets the Mac Pro every 3 seconds.
The same Mac Pro connected to an outlet with no Tripp Lite starts up with no problem.

Hi,
I've the same notebook. I've not had any hardlocks so far, but I've not seen so much flash movies yet. Anyway, I just tried closing running youtube-video tab on Kde4 + enabled desktop effects -> Everything's fine.
Anyway, perhaps we can collect some issues and solutions in this thread. Here are problems, that I encounter:
- restart does not work
- errors during boot:

[ 9.263176] sdhci-pci 0000:0b:00.1: setting latency timer to 64
Issued solved:
- in order to make nvidia graphics working you have to disable Optimius in BIOS.
- Battery not recognized -- fixed after recend updates
- grub2 does not work. As soon as grub2 loads, the laptop reboots. -> stick to grub1  --  works now (either I did sth wrong the first time or a new version of grub2 fixes this issue)
- in order to make the touchpad work properly install psmouse-elantech from AUR
update: this is only a half-solution. vertical scrolling on the right edge works but graphical tools which rely on x11-input-synpatics still don't work. However, everything works fine with kernel 3.3. Once this in the main arch repos you won't need psmouse-elantech anymore.

  • Mac Pro Buzzing Power Supply (PSU)

    Hi,
Have any of you experienced a buzzing sound coming from the PSU? Sleeping the machine gets rid of the buzzing. So I'm not exactly sure what is causing it.
    Thanks

Just wondering if you are sure that it is the PSU. Could the buzz come from one of the drive sleds? I would rule that out and make sure that it is the PSU. Take the sleds out and see if it is still buzzing. If the sleds have drives installed, the screws holding the drive in place might need to be slightly tightened (a loose drive will allow the sled to vibrate.) If there isn't a drive in the sled, the sled might be vibrating. Anyway, just a thought.
It would be a good idea to put the machine on a UPS. This will regulate the power flow to your machine. I know that power fluctuations can cause the PSU to do strange things. (And with a MP, I feel that a UPS is a MUST.)
If the power to your computer is steady and the drive sleds are not vibrating, I think it would be pertinent to call AppleCare.
    Anyway, hope this helps.
    D.

  • Yosemite and Mac Pro 2012

Ever since I updated, last Thursday, to Yosemite (on my Mac Pro 2012), I am now listed ON MY OWN COMPUTER as "Standard," not ADMINISTRATOR, which I am and have always been!  Therefore, I can't open many panes in System Preferences or change any settings in it.
I have re-installed Yosemite TWICE (after restarting and/or shutting down several times) and, after the reinstall, I get the "Log In" page and NO OTHER SET UP PAGES!  I can't seem to set myself up as the administrator, in order to manage my OWN computer - a Mac Pro 12-core, 2012.  I even changed my password to this computer.  HELP!

    Hey aniMix,
Thanks for the question. I understand that you are experiencing issues with AirDrop. The following resource provides some troubleshooting information which may be helpful:

  • 2008 Mac Pro random power cut+boot issues

    Hello everyone,
I'd like to describe a problem I've been having and see if it tweaks any ideas as to what the issue might be.
In 2008, I purchased a Mac Pro 2x2.8. It's got 4gb ram (2x 1gb Hynix and 2x 1gb Kingston), 320gb, 1tb and 160gb sata's and a ATI 4870 graphics card. Up until about 3 months ago, everything has been dandy - it's the best computer I've ever had, however recently I've been having some intermittent problems that may be related, or separate.
Problem 1: In the morning when I turn it on, on some occasions it will power on for 5 or so seconds, then power right back off again. Sometimes this happens after 5, 10 or even 20 seconds (right in the middle of OS X or Windows boot). The only thing I note is that if it can get as far as the boot selector (hold alt at boot) screen, it won't cut out at that point, only sometimes after I wait a moment then select a boot option. This can sometimes happen 10 or 20 times in a row before it will eventually turn on and function normally.
Problem 2: Random power cut off, sometimes at idle, sometimes while browsing, or using any other app. I can't pin it on any one particular function. I know it's not a temperature problem, I have temp monitors on my menu bar and as far as I can see it's been fairly stable in that regard. Most of the time, I can power up the computer again but very occasionally it will revert to what I described in problem 1.
I have run the apple hardware test, with no errors being produced, and have had the local apple reseller/service centre take a look, with their tech reporting no issues. (He referred to something called ARD being run on a cycle of 20 or 30 times with nothing indicating a problem) I've taken off every non essential piece of hardware, tried with only the stock ram - and the newer ram to no avail of my issues. The only thing that I can still suspect myself is a power issue, however there is another PC in the room that has not had any issues what-so-ever.
Is there anything anyone could suggest I try to pinpoint this issue? It's sending me insane.
Thanks in advance for any help!

I found your post after dropping my G6 off at the Genius Bar - for precisely the same reasons. I've had this issue for the past 6 months on my (early) 2008 dual quad core. A month ago, the power supply entirely died and Apple replaced it. Now the same issue has returned and the computer restarts multiple times on boot up, at different points, sometimes as long as 15-20 minutes after booting up, when everything seems normal. At this point, two people at Apple have given me two different causes. 1) The person on the support phone said it has to be the power controller on the logic board. 2) The person who took in the Mac said it has to be the APS UPS (model ES 750) because the G6 has a 900 watt power supply and the UPS is only rated at 450 watts (750 volt amps). I had already thought of this as a possible cause and had purchased a power consumption indicator called Kill-A-Watt. Guess what? The G6 consumes at most 120 VA. In any case, the UPS fuse would have blown at overload. I don't feel like springing for a 1750 VA UPS unit just on the off chance that this might be the cause. This is also driving me up the wall. Additional info much appreciated if anybody cares to make educated guesses.

  • Conecting 15 machinse (8 mac Pro + 7 Power Mac G4) to one mac mini.

I need to Conecting 15 machinse (8 mac Pro + 7 Power Mac G4) to one mac mini at the same time with out destrict me after 10 or 11 logins or i need the Software "Apple File Share Server or Apple Share IP instaler to run on Mac OS 9.2.2.

    Thanks for the advice!
I'll look into getting a good quality UPS in the meantime, however the situation changed the other day when I came home from work.
I turned on the Mac and it got as far as the login screen. After about two minutes of being on the login screen (I didn't actually enter my details or touch anything at this stage) it just turned itself off randomly. Therefore, I don't think what I'm trying to do in Avidemux is totally to blame for the problem in this respect.
After the Mac turned itself off this time, it wouldn't let me turn it back on for about 30 seconds of pressing the power button. When it finally started up again, it seemed to run fine for the rest of the evening.
Does this sound like the power supply is on its way out or could it be something else? If I need a new power supply, will I need a specific type of power supply and not just a standard PC one?
    Any further help appreciated.

  • Mac Pro 2012 crashes regularly after loading Mavericks

I upgraded the OS to Mavericks, direct from Lion, on my Mac Pro 2012 computer, since when it crashes and restarts spontaneously. Herewith the reports. Can anyone offer a straightforward solution? There is no sign of Google inspired crashes, as with other users. Is Mavericks named to draw attention to its spontaneous behaviour??

Migration Assistant: Problems transferring data from PC (XP SP3) to new Mac Pro 2012 - can not get Migration Assistant to work as PC will not display verfify passcode
Hello, I am having problems migrating data from my old PC running XP (SP3) to my new Mac Pro 2012 using the Migration Assistant.
    - I downloaded and installed the Windows Migration Assistant from Apple
    - My Mac recognized PC and displays passcode
    - The sasscode does not show / display on my PC
    - My Mac is then stuck in "authenticating" loop and the PC is stuck "waiting for Mac to connect."
    - Both computers are connected on same network (have connected PC on WIFI and using ethernet to Reuter)
I have looked on support site and only response I saw says to reinstall Windows Migration Assistant (which I have done)
Any ideas?  If cant get this to workare there instructions for manually bring across relevant data eg itunes music and apps, photos, picasa data etc?

Why not turn off the Windows firewall and uninstall any other firewall software you have installed?
If you are using a Norton product uninstall it and discard it. To fully unistall most Norton products you have to go to the Norton website and download a soecial program to completely get rid of it. The normal uninstall feature built into the program will not remove all of it.

  • HT5219 did thunderbolt display worked with mac pro 2012 12 core ??

i buy mac pro 2012 12 core with thunderbolt display so how i can maake it work with us ??

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
If you want to use a Thunderbolt Display with your 2012 MacBook Pro, you can do it without any problem because your MacBook Pro has got a Thunderbolt port.
If you need help to set up the Thunderbolt Display, see its user guide > http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/thunderbolt_display_getting_started.pdf
Instead, if you have a Mac Pro (it looks like you have a Mac Pro because you say that it has got 12 cores), you can't use the Thunderbolt Display because the Mac Pro hasn't got Thunderbolt ports. Instead, you have to use the LED Cinema Display

  • Macbook Pro power supply and grounding.

Hey Apple people. I noticed something disconcerting with the power supply on my MacBook Pro 13" (non-retina)
I have a stainless steel metal table in my kitchen. It is the same type of stainless steel table you find in restaurants.
I have my 13" MacBook Pro in a Speck See-thru case.
The MacBook Pro in it's case is sitting on a Rain Design "M Stand".
The Rain Design "M Stand" is sitting on the stainless steel table.
I am wearing a short sleeve shirt.
I am sitting on a fabric covered chair at the table.
The battery was getting low so I got out my power supply, which is the power brick with the two prong plug adapter.
I plugged this into a power strip and the other end into the computer.
While touching the case of the computer with one hand and leaning on the stainless steel table with my other bare arm. I felt a vibration through the fingers that were in contact with the MacBook Pro. I knew what was going on, and I got really concerned.
    I tried an experiment.
I got out the extension cord that came with the MacBook Pro power supply and I changed out the two prong plug on the power supply for the extension cord. The extension cord has a grounding post.
When I plugged the power supply back into the power strip and connected the power supply to the MacBook Pro. I no longer felt a vibrating sensation when I was in contact with the stainless steel table and the computer.
I have other MacBook Pro power supplies and I always use the grounded extension cable with them, because it is located at my regular workstation area. This stainless steel table is located in my kitchen, and I was eating dinner and watching YouTube videos.
Just thought you would like to all know that when you don't use the grounded cable on your MacBook Pro. you become the ground.
Never using this power supply anywhere again without the grounded cable.
    Thank you for your time.
    Matthew Sievert

It depends on what you are doing.  Yes, the power supply can get hot.  This is normal.

  • Need help with new Mac Pro (2012)

    Hi for everyone!
Few days ago, I bought a new Mac Pro (Mid 2012) MD770LL/A for my recording studio. The workstation is really powerfull and silent, but it has one major problem for me: computer comes with pre-installed Mac OS X 10.7.3 Lion, and as I understand, I can't install Mac OS X 10.6.8 on this machine. In this case, some plug-ins and instruments, that critical for my works are unavailable for me now. For example - MusicLab RealGuitar and RealLPC thru the VST to RTAS adapter (I'm using Pro Tools in my studio) don't working correctly on a Lion OSX. Unfortunately, I can't find any solution, to fix it... Even on an official support website of that software developers. Secondary, I still need Rosetta for some applications.
In that situation, my studio can't fully work.
So, what I should do??? WHY is officialy impossible to install Mac OS X 10.6.8 on a new Mac Pro, if its components is absolutely identic with Mac Pro 2010, that supported Mac OS X Snow Leo???
    Thanks!
With a big hope for a help!
    Alexey

    Hi!
Good news for anyone, who wants to install Mac OS X 10.6.x on a Mac Pro 2012!!!
As it turned out, the original installation DVD disc from the Mac Pro 2010, fully compatible with Mac Pro 2012! The images of DVD is quite possible to find on the Internet. Just checked on my system - boot from the fresh-burned disc, and Mac OS X 10.6.4 installed without problems! After that, updated to 10.6.8 - and it works!
Personally for me - it is great news!
Everyone have a nice day! Thanks!:-)

  • HT4628 I can not use the internal wireless card with my Mac pro 2012, I don't know if it is broken

I can not use the internal wireless card with my Mac pro 2012, I don't know if it is broken. The problem is happen recently, I have to use an independent wireless card now. Thanks!

When you enable Internet Sharing in OS X, you are creating a separate sub-net.
There is no option to allow this to be a simple pass-through from Ethernet to AirPort (or the other way).
The problem is easily solved by getting an inexpensive wireless router. You can replace your current router OR disable the DHCP server on the wireless router and allow the wireless clients to get an IP address from the current router.

  • What display works with Mac Pro 2012

Will the new Thunderbolt display work with my Mac Pro (2012)?

Actually, the 27 LED Cinema does re-appear in the Apple refurbished store from time/time. Use refurbme to be notified.

  • Mac Pro 2012

I bought a new mac pro 2012-12 core w/12GB memory. I like to add 2-4GB memory sticks. In which slots should I install the 2-4GB memory sticks?
    Thank you,
    Richard

I bought 4-8GB memory sticks from OWC for the mac pro 2012. Installed the 8GB mem stick in slot 1,2,3,4 and the 2GB mem sticks in slot 5,6,7 and 8. booted up the mac pro and got memory slot utility message. Should install the 8GB sticks in slots 1,2,5,6 and fill the rest the 2GB sticks. Did that that and booted up the mac pro however it took over a min to boot up and thats with a SSD drive. It took about 1 min to load FCPX and it woould take forver to render. Tested the memory, tested OK . Took out the memory and reinstalled the 2GB sticks in slots 1,2,3,5,6 and 7. Rebooted the MP STRTED RIGHT UP AS DID FCPX. Sent memory back to OWC, got a refund and bought 2-4GB memory sticks from the apple store. I just want to make sure I install them in the right slots.
    Thank you,
    Richard

    Need support!

How can i stream(air mirroring) *.mkv files between Mac Pro and AppleTV2 by using quicktimeX?
As stated you can't. Even if the compressed data is TV compatible, the container is not. If the file is playback compatible with the QT X Player, you can, of course, play the file on your main system and "mirror" its display to the TV. Unfortunately, this normally means only the video is played back via the TV device. On the other hand, if you convert the MKV content to an TV compatible file (or move the compressed data to an TV compatible container if the data is already TV compatible), then you can mirror the QT X player (with audio) to the TV device in the full screen mode, air play/mirror it from iTunes (or any mobile device), or stream it directly from itunes.
Basically, what you can do here depends on the compressed data in the MKV file container and how you define "mirroring."
