Severe Lag after Unplugging MBP Retina

Hey guys....
Just picked up my 27" Thunderbolt Display to plug into my 15" Macbook Pro Retina last week. I noticed ever since I've had the new monitor, whenever I use my Macbook Pro Retina WITHOUT the 27" Monitor, it is SUPER laggy and music stutters...even scrolling websites. Only thing running is itunes, safari and mail and it's still stuttering..
WHY?!

  • "Click" after 15" MBP Retina sleeps...???

Hi - I notice that when I return to my MBPr after it has been asleep (plugged into power) - that, if I wake it via the spacebar, for example - I often hear a "click" sound that almost sounds like an old fashioned camera click as it wakes up.  Any thoughts/similar observations?
    Thanks.
    Steve

OK - I solved this mystery.  It actually isn't the Macbook at all which is great.  It is the sound of the application 1Password "locking" itself after I wake the computer and the auto- lock-time I have set has expired once the computer has awakened.

Have you ever (also in your previous macs, if you restored stuff from a timemachine backup after getting MBP retina) installed Aspell? I mean, if you installed a language that's not supported by spellcheck by default (in system preferences - search for spelling). If there's a language with Aspell listed, try to disable it. I also deleted ~/Library/Services/cocoAspell.service.
I tried and will be checking if the issue reoccurrs.

  • MacBook Pro Retina Late 2013 UI Lag after installing Yosemite

    Hey everyone,
Ok so my Issue here, and I think I'm not the only one but my MacBook pro retina late 2013 (8GB ram, 256gb SSD) has been experiencing numerous issues after installing Yosemite. For example, the UI lag is at times horrible; after opening several apps, and especially after having a pdf or two open in preview everything becomes so sluggish. the animation of switching to mission control is painstakingly slow, and opening new tabs in safari takes 2 or 3 seconds. I've done a clean install of yosemite but nothing seems to help, what should I do; just revert back to mavericks and cross my finger for a future update?
Any help would be much appreciated, thanks so much !

i am in the same situation as you, late 2013 retina MacBook Pro 15 inch upgraded to yosemite and then clean installed yosemite b/c of UI lag after opening several apps at once... I found that yosemite drained my battery life too, on mavericks i was getting 5-8 hrs of battery life, on yosemite i was getting like 2-3 hrs most.
After exhausting every option out there (apple store genius bar help, apple repair, etc), I came to the consensus that my macbook had no hardware problems at all, it's basically a software problem on apple's end.  and until they update yosemite with a specific fix for the UI lag and the battery consumption problems, i am not going back to yosmemite.
what i did was clean installed back to mavericks... this solved every one of my problems, NO LAG, NO BATTERY ISSUES, back to buttery smooth performance, of course without the new UI however... but i can live without new design
this experience tells me several things: 1. the new apple under the leadership of cook is slowly but surely sacrificing quality of software for unnecessary updates(sales) 2. mac hardware is still good but who knows for how much longer

  • My MBP Retina gets very confused when I plug in/unplug external monitors. Is this normal?

I've noticed my MBP Retina is more easily confused than my old MBP when using external monitors.
The problems occur after unplugging from an external monitor. Unless I actually re-start the computer, the resolution in some apps (e.g. Safari) fails to revert to retina quality. I am often left with the toolbar and windows so far off the laptop screen that it is impossible to reach them and the OS is unusable (have to restart). And just now the machine went into a strange fit where it kept powering on and off the displays every few seconds, apparently unable to decide what mode to be in. Again, I had to restart.
Is it normal to expect that I would have to restart the machine when moving between external monitor/laptop only combinations?
All these effects are fairly intermittent (although very frequent) so could be hard to reproduce at the Genius bar.

  • Flash won't install after downloading...early 2013 MBP/Retina, 8GB DDR3 1600 MHz Ram, 3GHz Intel Core i7 Processor (clean installation)

Flash Player won’t install after downloading
On the first attempt to install v14, Flash Player v13 was installed and working fine.
I opened the installation package for the new Flash Player, followed standard protocol for installing Mac software and it hung before retrieving anything.
Subsequently, while watching the beach ball spin, I got an error message that the installer could not retrieve the v13 Flash Player software.
So I uninstalled Flash Player 13 and again attempted to install v14, only to see the spinning beach ball followed by a message that the installer could not retrieve the v14 Flash Player software.
    I am running OS X v10.9.4 on an early 2013 MBP/Retina display with 3GHz Intel Core i7 processor and 8GB DDR3 1600 MHz Ram.
If you have any ideas or suggestions regarding my issue, please let me know.
    Sincerely.

  • Freeze after waking from sleep mode on MBP retina

After waking from sleep mode my MBP retina freezes for 3-5 seconds. Mouse and touchpad don't work. I wonder if it's mountain lion problem or hardware problem. Anyone faced this?

Just got a brand new model and OS X 10.8.2 (12C3012) and face the same issue, almost everytime it sleeps for too long. This is not a 3rd type SDD, this is a standard Apple SSD. I turned off the BT, I removed the almost every option from the battery saver mode. The current test is to disable the power nap - I will let you all know the result in a few hours.

  • I have a MBP Retina and in the office I use it with a Monitor Sony LMD-2450W connected through AMD Port to VGA. After installing 10.9.2 the resolution in the monitor has been downsized to 4:3 (and 1280x960) instead of its 16:9 display. Anyone know how to

I have a MBP Retina LCD (resolution 2880x1800) and in the office I use it with a Monitor Sony LMD-2450W connected by VGA. After installing 10.9.2 the resolution in the monitor has been downsized to 4:3 (and 1280x960) instead of its 16:9 display. Anyone know how can I change the resolution manually?
Display shows only 3 different resolution if I choose "scaled" but none use the full area of the monitor.
    Thank you
    Marco

This has been an ongoing problem with external monitors that predates 10.9.2. I wrote various tips on different methods here, though the best is probably the hot corner one:

  • My late 2013 13" MBP Retina does not mirror over airplay with out significant lag, unusable when trying to playback video

I have the newest airport extreme (AC), the latest Apple TV, and a late 2013 13" MBP retina and I am un-able to mirror over airplay.. it is virtually un-usable.... Is there anything I can do to fix this? You'd think with all the newest/best things I'd have no issues..t
I have lagging sound, significant delay in displays, dropped frames, and sometimes complete un-responsiveness.

Lag is typically caused by network interference. You can verify by going to istumbler.net

  • MBP Retina Freeze after migration and no option for Reinstall

    Hello,
just want to inform you, I have just maked the migration to my new MBP retina and have a problem that it will freeze only option is to boot in safe mode.
Have deinstalled apps which could be the problem such as Paralles desktop, Symantec Endtime protection, SMC Fan... still have the problem with all users.
Deleted the Startubitems, launchagents and deamons still the same problem.
So I wanted to make a complete reinstalltion and here is the problem the apple server do not let me make the reinstallation.
This version of Mac OS x 10.7 cannot be installed on this computer
Answer for the support they have to get in contact with the Itunes department this can take 2 days. So I can only enjoy my mbp in safe mode.
Kann someone help me to fix the freesing after the migration?

I can try that but I am afraid that I do than not even have the safe mode any more. Will spend 1-2 more hours to fix the problem, because after the reinstallation I will do the same migration and may end at the same situation.
So better try to fix it.
Fix the spotlight index crash and know have a new one I386_pmGetDeadline: Null pointer.
This have to do with the power management. Will try that and than let us see.

  • Photosmart 309a stopped working after unplugged for several hours

The printer is about 6 months old and my PC detected it wirelessly immediely, out of the box. But for some reason now the radio on the printer cannot find my wireless network. I have used this printer, wirelessly, from day 1 as part of my home office (I work from home a lot). I unplugged the printer today--to move the furniture so I could paint my office. When I was done I plugged the printer back in but printing failed immediately thereafter. The only thing I did was unplug the printer. My wireless router remained plugged in and my work laptop, with uses the wireless network, continues to show a strong signal.
I contacted HP online chat earlier this evening and they had me do a reinitialization (#,6 after unplugging for 20 seconds). That did nothing to help the problem.
I have also uninstalled the printer and reinstalled the printer drivers -- still nothing! I am running Vista 64 home premium.
Both the radio and bluetooth lights are lit on the front of the printer.
The printer does work if I connect it to my pc via a usb cable.
Any ideas on what I'm doing wrong?

It sounds like it never even really starts the process by finding a list of wireless networks to choose from.  Is the wireless radio on (usually a blue light)?  If so, run a Wireless Network Test from the front panel of the printer to find out the radio's status.  It may have failed.  Let me know what it says.
While you are messing with this stuff I would highly recommend not using WEP.  It is no longer secure (freeware from the web can break it in about 10 minutes).  I recommend WPA or WPA2 encryption.  You can even set your own passphrase that you can remember (but make it strong - 13 characters or more, numbers and letters, upper and lower case).
Say thanks by clicking "Kudos" "thumbs up" in the post that helped you.

  • MBP Retina or Powerful Ultrabook?

Hi, I've been a PC user all my life, but after working my way through the first iPod Nano, a couple iPod Touches, and now an iPad 2- I've grown to like the way Apple works. I'm finally at the point where I've decided to upgrade my 4-year old Future Shop sale Toshiba, which surprisingly has lasted me a good deal of time. However, I'm not a fan of the limited capabilities, the weight, and the fact that it very easily overheats (to nearly scalding temperatures), leading me to opt for my iPad most of the time. I'm a sucker for HD and quick boot-ups, so of course I fell in love with the MBP Retina when it was released. The only thing holding me back is the hefty price tag. Because of this, I began to research several ultrabooks and found that I could get the same specs (except for retina, but I'm fine with 1080p) and even a few bonus features (I would love a Blu-Ray drive and some accident-proof features) for half, or slightly-more-than-half of the price of the MBP. My favourite features of the MBP are the "little things"- fast bootup, magsafe, trackpad, and iCloud to work seamlessly with my iPad (which, i guess isn't really a "little thing"). I'm just not sure if these are worth the extra $1000 when I could just get an amazing PC.
I plan to use this computer in the following ways:
    - Web browsing/ social networking
    - Homework (university... of course)
    - Entertainment (play movies, TV shows, etc)
    - Some video and picture editing (I have a Sony camera which records AVCHD, which edits best on Sony Vegas)
    - Running language software (i.e. Rosetta Stone)
So anyway, I'm not a gamer or a hardcore video editor, but I would like to be able to do some editing and video playback with clarity and without lag. As such, I figure I really only need the i5, so the base model of the Retina is fine for me. But again, I could get a **** good computer with i5 for much less money than the Retina, so I'm looking for reasons to sway either way. Any thoughts?
    Thanks,
    tj

    Hmm...
'll readily admit, I'm a bit of an Apple head, so always say YEAH GO FOR IT.
    However,
I'd say be aware, if you aren't going to use the power, you may be better going for alternatives, but I'll give you a rundown of some pro's and cons for your usage.
    - Cold boots in 15 seconds flat
    - can play 4 1080p streams at once without lag or framerate drop
    - Photo editing on Aperture is excellent
    - Photostream means your photos are there almost instantly wirelessly (not with the camera of course)
    - Photoshop CS6 (when the retina patch is out) will look brilliant
    - I had a photo zoomed out to fill half the screen size, of a whole person, yet could still see individual hairs on the head.
    - Build, engineering, design and material quality unsurpassed in the industry (you cannot flex anywhere or make anything creak)
    - Logevity, just upgraded from a 2008 Air - which was still going strong with no visible wear or damage/scratches
-Power, good graphics chip, switchable for battery life
    - Video editing is amazing (on Final Cut Pro - which is Retina ready) you can veiw full 1080p with the interface still visible
    Cons:
    - Lag - on 'best for retina' its great, on 'More space' scaling, if you allow GFX chip switching, will cause serious lag - forcing the GeForce fixes this
    - Other laptops will be great for your needs, and cheaper, but may not last as long
    - The next generation in a year will likely iron out the lag issues
    - Most programs are not yet retina ready - meaning they look... well... very dodgy indeed
I would say the MacBook is a fantastic machine and you will not regret the purchase, it will last you a good 3-5 years and you will thoughoughly enjoy it.  It's an absolute joy to you and the trackpad and keyboard are brilliant.  The speakers are also great.
However, you will likely get a notebook more than good enough for your needs, as you said, for much less money.  If you can happily afford it - get the Mac, they are some of the finest computers money can buy.  If it's a stretch - get a **** good alternative, you'll enjoy it equally and get great performance and some extra money in the old pocket!
Hope this helped a bit anyway - if you have any questions, ask away, more than happy to help
