Sfc /scannow - Cannot repair member file

I ran sfc /scannow and then filtered the results to a file. There are several errors that were flagged that could not be repaired.  They seem to be related to an update "Package_83_for_KB2769165".
What can I do to fix the files?

  • Windows 7 won't boot or run sfc /scannow - says repair in

I upgraded my HP laptop from Vista to Windows 7 and it has been working for a year. This morning the laptop will not boot up and when I run repair it runs it over and over and will not boot up. I run the diagnostics on the hard drive it gets to about 8%
and then stops with #10008 Replace Hard Disk and then SMART Hard Disk Passed. I get into the Windows 7 repair page and run it over and over with no results and it does not list an any operating systems on System Recovery Page. On the System Recovery Options
page it says Operating System unknown. It does not allow System Restore either. I can get the command prompt (X:\windows\system32) but when I try to run sfc /scannow  it will not let me because there is a system repairpending that requires a reboot to
coomplete, and so it goes over and over. I tried using my Windows 7 Home Premium upgrade disk but that does not help. I would re-install it but it will not let me do an installation unless I boot the system from the computer and not the DVD.  It seems
like I am in a continuous loop to start out 2012 and I do not know how to get out of it. Any help would be great appreciated.

Mark, thanks for your response. I had no success with the others.
•If it can't do anything, select "Command Prompt"
•Please make sure you follow the instructions of this guide exactly as given or you might risk more
    problems.
NOTE; Make sure you press Enter after each command.
Make sure all commands are exactly as shown in this guide, including "spaces".
First, we will start off with this command.
    Quote
    bootrec /RebuildBcd
I did this and got a different result
    Total Identified Windows Installation: 1
    [1]  C:\ Windows
Add Installations to boot list? Yes (Y), No (N), All (A)=
I tried Yes and it responded This requested system device cannot be found.
I formatted the C: portion of disk and reinstalled Windows 7 Premium Home Edition from scratch and went through setting it all up and over 90 updates, including SP1 and things seem to go fine. System rebooted a number
of times and it was working. Then out of nowhere went restarting on an update it went right back to where I started before.  It appears through various operations I loose communications to the Boot file. When I read some of the reports I get the No Bootable
    Device available 0x3bc3.
I run the repair disk over and over and then get it to run again.
The difference now is that all the Memory and Hard Drive tests run to completion and say OK. The last time that it happened I got a momentary blue screen that was gone before I knew it and I was back again to where I started. I am
not running chkdisk on C: again and it seems to be doing OK.
Any more ideas for me. I did remove and reseat the hard drive WD3200 just to be sure connections were OK before I formatted and started from scratch. Seems to me that the boot record is out there but I cannot get to it.
    Thanks, Dave

  • Cannot repair plist files

I recently can DiskWarrior and it states it cannot repair the following plist files:
    com.apple.iphotomosaic.plist
    com.CONAsia.Gentry.plist
    com.Diompaci.Lanugo.plist
    com.signcorporation.featherbrain.plist
    com.VandessIncorporated.DataSoftware.plist
Aside from the iPhoto screen saver above (which I never use), I have no idea what these other programs files are. Interestingly, the date on them precede the date of my MBP's purchase. I suspect they were transfered from my PBG4 whose files were migrated over to this machine.
So my question is, can I simply delete these files as an alternative to repairing them?

    Hi There
These files can be deleted safely without any implication as they are automatically created by applications that are run on your computer. If you notice that any software on your computer reverts to it's default settings then that was the program the file was most likely associated with.

  • Disk Utility reports it cannot repair this file...ARDAgent

Started verify/repair permissions on disk0s2 Silver Book
Warning: SUID file "System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/MacOS/ARDAg ent" has been modified and will not be repaired
Anyone know what that means? Is there a problem I should be concerned about?
    Thanks!

I'm not sure, but this issue has been around for a very long time. Looks like 5 years at least:
Disk Utility Warning: SUID file xxx has been modified, will not be repaired
Apple has a document on it that says you can ignore them:
Mac OS X: Disk Utility's Repair Disk Permissions messages that you can safely ignore - Apple Support
It would be nice if this "warning" didn't occur if it wasn't a problem, since it's still generating concern 5 years on

Change the target to C:\ and click on Extract
Close all windows (it would be a good idea to print these instructions!)

    (e.g. XCOPY P:\wfire P:\windows\winsxs /y /i /s /v /h )
run the command (it should take almost no time) and when the prompt returns, type
    EXIT
and hit the Enter key to exit Command Prompt - reboot to Normal Mode Windows.
    Now run
SFC /SCANNOW in an Elevated Command Prompt
then reboot and upload the new CBS.log file to your reply

  • Issues with Windows 8.1 - ran SFC / SCANNOW

    Hello -
I am having issues with my Windows 8.1 PC. Audio Services are not running and Control Panel / Window Update takes a long time to come up, if it does even). I tried all the normal items (Safe mode etc) but not resolution.
I did the sfc / scannow and it came back with "Cannot repair member file " among other things.
Any suggestions? My system restore points are too recent to go back to where it was ok.

Got this error when I ran DISM:

    Should I be worried?

    Hi theking2,
Before going further, would you please let me confirm whether this issue occurred on Windows Server 2012 Essentials?
    Or any other OS?
Based on your description, I guess that there should be some corrupted files on this OS. So, you ran
sfc /scannow command, then encounter this issue. If anything I misunderstand, please don’t hesitate to let me know.
Please use DISM (Deployment Image Servicing
and Management) tool, then please use following DISM command to check.
    DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
When above command ran complete. Please run
sfc /scannow command again. Then please monitor the result.
    Hope this helps.
    Best regards,
    Justin Gu

  • SFC /scannow reported error cannot fix

    hi all,
sfc /scannow has detected that file M1033DSK.DSC file is corrupt, according to sfcdetails.txt file. I replaced the file off the win7dvd, folder 4 and the file is still detected as corrupt by SFC.
Any help to resolve this issue would be appreciated.

    Hi,
I agree with Rick Dee. You should find where the corrupted file located and what the corrupted file belonged to.
You may consider to try System Restore, return to the point which did not appear the problem. System Restore helps you restore your computer's system files to an earlier point in time.
You can try restoring your computer's system to an earlier date when everything worked correctly.
    What is System Restore?

If the issue still persists, I would like to suggest you perform an In-Place upgrade to repair the whole system.

  • H8-1520t: sfc /scannow reported file corruption in Windows 8.1

My computer (h8-1520t) computer had had file corruption error reported by sfc /scannow.
The corruption was rather common corruption as discovered elsewhere on the internet.  The corruption pertained to prncacla.inf and it was repaired only by using DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth.  The corruption occured while the computer was doing automatic maintenance which locked up my system.  After forcing a shutdown and rebooting, I immediately ran sfc /scannow and that's when the corruption was first detected.
Now sfc /scannow finds no corruption and automatic maintence runs to completion.
Since this is a rather common corruption error and there's no explanation as to what causes the problem, should I send my computer, which it's still under warranty, back to HP ---or--- did I corrected the corruption properly ? ? ?
On additional question: What on earth causes that common corruption to occur anyway.
Also: UEFI diagnostics extensively run and the extensive testing revealed no problems with system board, hard drive, memory, processor (i7-3770), graphics card memory (Radeon HD 8570).
If I should be concerned about my computer being a dud and lemon, I'd like to know... Or, did I fix the corruption correctly?
    Thanks,
    Mark

    Hi Mark,
You may want to review this article.
If you are not comfortable with the Windows repair process then you can use the external HP recovery media to reload you PC back to a day one factory fresh condition.  Backup your data before doing so.

  • A client has sent me an indesign file I cannot open. She says she has updated to Indesign CC 2014. I am a CC member and fully updated my own software but cannot open the file she has sent me, not even if she saves as an IDML, how do I resolve the problem?

A client has sent me an indesign file I cannot open. She says she has updated to Indesign CC 2014. I am a CC member and fully updated my own software but cannot open the file she has sent me, not even if she saves as an IDML, how do I resolve the problem?

There are a few things to try.
First, if this file came to you vial email attachment, it could have been corrupted. Ask her to zip the file and send it again. That sometimes helps.
I suppose there's a chance that the file is already zipped, so see if that's the case and unzip it if so.
If the file name doesn't end with .indd, add it and see if that helps.
If you are double-clicking, try File>Open from within InDesign.
Last (and I know this sounds like a joke, but I've seen it many times), sometimes people attach a Mac Alias or Windows Shortcut instead of the actual file. What is the file size? If it's really small, that might be the reason.
Also, no offense intended if some of this sounds like stuff you have already tried. I don't know what you know, so I'm just spit-balling.

  • Servers where patches will not install automatically or manually, Live updates are broken and when checking installed updates shows "NO UPDATES ARE INSTALLED ON THIS COMPUTER" SFC \SCANNOW will not run

Hello, (Bit of a long one but please read)
We have 3 servers in same physical location and server OU etc that are exhibiting the exact same behaviors (we have server servers in this location that are not), as above theyt are all W2008 R2 SP1 and all built from the same standard
image we use on hundreds of other computers, they have also been in production for different amounts of time and we started to see this behavior at different times with them: (Its odd they are all in the same site where there are also several other servers
that are not effected, there must be a link ? )
These servers are all missing several patches when checking our internal tool that reports from IBM endpoint management that we use to deliver patches (they are not all missing the exact same patches some ore or less than other), although
SCCM (we used SCCM to deliver patches until around 6 months ago) and IBM EM are both running (some ptches hark back to the SCCM Delievry days) they are not patching and when attempting to patch manually by downloading the exact patch coresponding to the fixlet
ID and the KB , the stanbdalone installer starts and after some time you receive an error message “The update is not applicable to yoru computer”. Windows update returns error 80070006 for all of the servers.
it is worth noting that other applications and products also using the .MSU extension will insatll so it is not a problem with the installer service.
The above led me to think a corrupt patch may have stopped the sequence of patching so I then looked in “Programs and Features” => “Installed updates” and this is blank for all of them returening the message:
“NO UPDATES ARE INSTALLED ON THIS COMPUTER”.  (this I believe is a part of the fundamental issues and resolving this may resolve the patching)
Another issue is that if you run  “SFC /SCANNOW” It starts the scan and then returns: “Windows Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation” (Also in safe mode and both from an elevated CMD and WMI is started as a service)
The all three are probably related so I think fixing the “SFC and NO UPDATES SHOWN” issues will resolve the first.
The things I have tried so far are:
Running : wmic qfe list full /format:htable > c:\updates.htm             Should produce a list of updates but instead returns :  No Instance(s) Available (this is not hopeful)
Fix: Ran the “SYSTEM UPDATE REDINESS TOOL” from  http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947821
Result : Update Ran successfully but NO CHANGE
Fix: Ran the automated and manual fix “RESET WINDOWS UPDATE COMPONENTS” here :
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/971058/en then undated windows update agent.
Result : All ran successfully and NO CHANGE
    Fix: Ran MBSA
Result : Runs successfully and then stays at “Done downloading security update information” (Log gives no obvious information)
Fix: Renamed the software distribution folder/restarted services (Various variations of this fix online, tried a few)
Result: Runs as described in article with new Software distribution folder being created,
    NO CHANGE
Fix: Create/Correct the  reg key for windows trusted installer located here HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Component Based Servicing\Version (several articles relating to this and the above issues)
Result: the existing key was correct as should be from internal system information gathered , required in article.
Fix: Ran the “Windows update trouble-shooter”
    as here :
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/troubleshoot-problems-installing-updates#1TC=windows-7
Result:  It detected and fixed error’s but still no change.
The WMI Repository checks out on them all for both of the methods I know to verify “Get-wmiobject –list |measure” and ensure count is over 900 and also “C:\>winmgmt /verifyrepository” and the repository came back as “WMI Repository is consistent”. I guess
this is not hard evidence the WMI is OK, but these are the only methods I know.
I have also tried removing the server from its OU , running a GP Update and then rebooting and testing but to no avail (Bit of a longshot but tried to link the distinction between the three servers and the OU GP is one of them)
I have tried a few other articles registering .Dll’s etc , but I did not take a note of links as I was at the start of this and didn’t expect it to go so long so please reply with anything you see not above im happy to try again.
I have thought about removing SP1 and reinstalling it but this will require a major downtime and only possible if the backup files of SP1 have not been removed.
    Any help is apreciated !

    Hi,
Please try to rebuil the WMI repository.
For detailed information, please refer to the blog below,

If issue persists, due to sfc doesn't work, could you try to repair your system with the installation disk?

Is there a way to rebuild the component store?
    Thanks,

    Hey Glen,
This log shows the exact same error that is mentioned in the comments of
this blog post, and the response is:

Thanks.  Unfortunately, this isn't good news.  The CanonicalData key is missing.

Unfortunately, its a small, but unrecreatable subset of data.  If this is missing, servicing is broken on the machine and the system will need to be restored from backup or PBR.
So you will need to try a refresh or a re-install of Windows, unfortunately.
    Hope this helps,
    David
