SFP-10G-LRM and Intel E10GSFPLR Compatibility

Hello,
I wonder if someone can help me with a seemingly simple but elusive question.  I'm looking to make a purchase of several SFP-10G-LRM modules to support 10Gb communications over our OS2 fibre infrastructure.  All runs are less than 300m so this is cost effective compared to using SFP-10G-LR.
On the other end of the fibre will be some servers using Intel E10GSFPLR (10Gb 1310nm) optics.
My question is this - are these optics compatible for the situation I've described?  I've done some searching and can't find any definite information either way, despite these being popular choices (I guess).
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks,
Andrew

Unfortunately, optical transceiver modules do not auto negotiate for speed.  Therefore, you cannot connect a 10Gbps interface to a 1Gbps interface.  You need to upgrade both ends before the circuit can be completed.
If you need equipment to support the intermediate step in the upgrade cycle, you might look at purchasing Cisco Refurbished Products.

    Hello,
Has anyone had success/experience running across OS2 SM with a SFP-10G-LR at one end and a SFP-10G-LRM at the other, where the total link length is <300m?
    Thanks,

    Dear Dima L,
I will check this tomorrow... but expect the same error.

  • Interoperable ASR1000 XFP for SFP-10G-LRM ?

    I have a 4507R+E switch with SFP-10G-LRM (in WS-X45-SUP7-E) that I want to connect to an ASR1006 with SPA-1X10GE-L-V2.
What XFP can I use to implement my required 10G uplink?
I'm looking at XFP-10GLR-OC192SR [with signle mode fiber], but I don't know if that is interoperable with SFP-10G-LRM.
I suspect the XFP-10GLR-OC192SR would work with a SFP-10G-LR but I have already invested in the SFP-10G-LRM.
As an aside, will my SFP-10G-LRM interoperate with a SFP-10G-LR if I connect using single mode fiber?

AFAIK they should interoperate over SM fiber distances in the range you noted. Protocol-wise the encoding is definitely interoperable. The concern is generally receiving light at optical power levels the receiver can translate into electrical signals faithfully (and of course transmitting at levels adequate for the distant end to do the same).

  • SFP-10G-LRM interoperability with SFP-10G-LR

I previously included this in a more complicated query (“Interoperable ASR1000 XFP for SFP-10G-LRM ?”) that didn’t generate any responses, so here is the revised question:
Will a SFP-10G-LRM interoperate with a SFP-10G-LR if I connect using single mode fiber?
(Fiber length would not exceed 100 meters.)
Power and wavelength specifications for the two SFP+ modules seem to indicate that they would work together:
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/collateral/modules/ps5455/data_sheet_c78-455693.html
I’m just concerned that there could be some protocol differences. Otherwise I’m not sure why there would be two different standards, i.e –LR and –LRM.
I checked the "definitive source for everything" and that didn’t clarify LR/LRM interoperability either:

    Thanks.

  • Sfp-10g-lrm dropping link

I have 2 switches WS-c2960s-24PD-L one of the SFP ports on both are connected to other switches running the 10g-LRM  SFP modules. The two 2960 in question are connected by 1000BaseSX SFP modules. When i try to replace the !gigs with the 10gigs (on both ends) the config is the same on both ends. when i swap out the sfp the link will come up for a few mins then drop. i can do a shut/ noshut on the interface and it will comeback then go down again. Can any one give me some idias to try This link is working fine with the 1Gig SFP.

What is the distance of the fibre? If the original was running on GLC-SX-MM then you should've replaced them with SFP-10G-SR and not LRM.

  • Cisco Nexus 5548UP support SFP-10G-LRM ?

Hi all, I have a question about Cisco Nexus 5548UP. Is Cisco Nexus 5548UP support SFP-10G-LRM ? Because in CCW, i can't configure the SFP-10G-LRM. There is only SFP-10G-LR, SR, and the others, but there's no LRM. Pelase help me to answer this question. Thanks a lot

The LRM is s special case transceiver which supports 10 Gbps over older FDDI grade multimode fiber when used with a mode conditioning patch cord. It is not supported on the Nexus 5548UP.
The SFP-10G-LR is used with single mode fiber for spans up to 10 km in length. It is supported on the 5548UP (and most every platform of Cisco's that takes SFPs).
Please see the product data sheet here.

  • SFP-10G-LRM modules with MM fiber OM3

    Hi All,
Can the Cisco SFP-10G-LRM  transceiver be used with Multimode OM3 fiber? if so, what would be the cable distance?
    thanks

The SFP+ data sheet does indicate support for OM3 & OM4 fibers (no launch cable required).  220 meters looks to be the link length spec.

  • Oracle 10g lite and Oracle 8i compatibility

I have a series of Oracle 8.1.7.4 database servers running on Unix platforms scattered around the globe that use multi-master replication for synchronization. I need to populate approximately 500 Windows 2000 deployable systems that will operate in austere communication environments. These remote systems will need to be kept synchronized with the primary servers. I have no choice but to keep Oracle 8.i on the primary servers but have some flexibility in deploying a more current version on the PCs. Are there interoperability problems between Oracle 8.i and 10g Oracle Database Lite?

After having wasted 2 days trying to get Oracle Lite 10g Release 2 (10.0.1.2)working with Oracle RDBMS 1.8.7.4 (running on VMS) we failed. We had to downgrade to OLITE 10g R1 (10.0.0.) that evntually worked in combination with 8.1.7.4. We also found out that Oracle Lite Mobile Server repository should reside on the same Oracle instance as the back-end database.

  • C3000 N100 and Intel 4965AGN compatibility

    Hi,
I have a Lenovo C3000 N100 notebook (0768-BQG) which comes with an Intel wireless 3945ABG mini-PCI express adapter. I would like to replace that card with Intel 4965AGN (the same form factor) to use the 802.11n standard at home. I am aware that wireless adapters are authorized by some manufacturers and to avoid error 1802 “Unauthorized network card is plugged in. Power off and remove the mini-PCI network card.” I would purchase a card with the Lenovo FRU number 42T0865 (Intel 4965AGN MM1) which is used in some ThinkPads.
    Here are my two questions:
    1. Is any BIOS version for 0768-BQG machines compatible with the Intel 4965AGN adapter?
(TV Access Connections from version 4.40 seems to be).
    2. Has someone already made successfully such upgrading?
I would like to avoid no-1802.com-like solutions.
    Thanks for any help, Peter

I would also like to upgrade the wireless card in my laptop, which is a 3000 C200.  Currently has the Intel 3945ABG which barely works - always dropping connection even when sitting right next to the router.
Does anybody know which cards are whitelisted in the BIOS?
I suppose getting any help from Lenovo on this front would be out of the question?

  • Cisco ASR1001-X SFP-10G-SR: unable to bring 10G port up

    Dear colleagues,
I have connected a Cisco ASR1001-X 10G port to a 10G port on the Cisco 7606-S.  The SFP on my ASR1001-X is SFP-10G-SR and the SFP on the 7606-S is XENPAK-10GB-LX4. I am using an MMF fibre patching. I am unable to bring the port up. I have a temp license for the ASR 10G port. Is that sufficient to bring the port up?
I have tried connecting the SFP-10G-SR to a XFP-10G-MM-SR on another ASR but this did not work either.  I am able to connect the XFP-10G-MM-SR to one another and also the SFP-10G-SR  to one another. So there appears to be an issue when I mix the SFPs.
    Can any one help please?

The SFP on my ASR1001-X is SFP-10G-SR and the SFP on the 7606-S is XENPAK-10GB-LX4. I am using an MMF fibre patching.
The two fibre optic modules are on different wavelengths so the link won't come up.

    Hi,
Can you help me in this ?
    I have two 10Gig modules.
    On 6500, i have X2-10GB-LRM  and on 3750-x i have SFP-10G-SR= .
you can use it with fiber cable and patch cord to connect the two devices?

    Hello,
SFP-10G-SR is a MMF and it uses a LC duplex connector.
X2-10GB-LRM is also a MMF and it uses LC duplex connector.
    so they are compatible.

  • Fiber Patch cord bewteen X2-10GB-SR and SFP-10G-SR

  • X2-10G-LX4 and SFP-10G-SR

    Hi
    Issue 1
I have a 6506-E with WS-X6708-10Gig Modules and i have installed X2-10G-LX4 transceiver on them, on the other side i have a UCS 6120 and installed a SFP-10G-SR.
The link between the 2 does not come up,  what could be the reason for that? The distance between the 2 is 10 meters and i have already tried changing the cables.
    Issue 2
If i connect the WS-X6708-10Gid module with X2-10GB-LR module and connect it to X2-10GB-LR on another 6506-E, the link comes up. that means there is no problem with the Module or the ios on the switch.
but if connect X2-10GB-LX4 on 6506-E and X2-10GB-LX4 on the other side, the link does not come up. Any clue what could be the reason ? I have already tried changing the transceiver.
    Can someone please help ?

You have got answer for first issue that LX4 cannot work with SR. By the way what kind of fiber you have Single Mode/Multimode?
    second issue,
If your X2-10GB-LRmodule have worked then i can assume that you have single mode fiber for testing as LR is only for Single mode fiber .
LX4 is only made for Multimode fiber and it is not going to work on single mode fiber no matter what you try (as you are saying link is not comming up).
Cisco X2-10GB-LRM is the only module which can work for Single mode and Multimode (ofcourse you need Mode conditioning patchchord )
