SFP+ Twinax cable compatibility

Hi Guys,
Does anybody know if the 'SFP+ Twinax' active or passive cables are compatable with the HP ethernet 10gb 2-port 530sfp+ adapters? I'm struggling to find/confirm if they are compatible or not.
Cheers

I've purchased a SFP-H10GB-CU3M (non-branded) TwinAx cable and have successfully connected from a HP NC552SFP 10Gb 2-port adapter (HP DL360p Gen8) into a 3750X (WS-C3750X-24T-S) 10GB (C3KX-NM-10G) module.
Once I receive my 4500X-16SFP switch, I hope to connect this into 3 dual port 10Gb vSphere hosts as well as my VNX SAN (10Gb SFP).
Finding anyone from EMC or Cisco that will confirm this solution is possible was impossible...so I hope mine will work!

  • Twinax cable compatibility with 2960X

    Hi,
I'm trying to connect WS-C2960X-48FPD-L with WS-C4500X-40X-ES via SFP-H10GB-ACU10M (Twinax cable). On 2960X I'm running  15.0(2)EX5 & on C4500X IOS XE 03.06.01.E, now where I use twinax cable on 2960X I get invalid gbic error and port gets error disabled please advise if I'm running the required image and why I'm getting this error.

    Hi,
You are running the required image on both devices.  Does it work if you use a fiber patch cord instead?

  • Differance in Active Passive Twinax Cable

I have 2 Nexus 7000 and 2 Nexus 5000 which connect to FI and the UCS. What I am doing is we purchased the APC racks that allow for able management for the Nexus 7000. I am making the move in a couple step process in order for the least amount of downtime.  The distance from the Nexus equipment will be about 10m away at longest. I see that my Nexus 7000 are connected using the SFP-H10GB-ACU7M and can purchase the  SFP-H10GB-ACU10M. This is an Active cable. But the Nexus 7000 are connected to the Nexus 5000 using the SFP-H10GB-CU5M which is a passive cable. I have been trying to find a CU10M but the longest is 7M. From what I have found on the cisco site at the bottom link. I do not know what the difference is of the Active and Passive cable and having problems googleing what the difference is. Could I get some clarity?

    SFP-H10GB-ACU10M=
    10-m 10G SFP+ Twinax cable assembly, active
    SFP-H10GB-CU5M=
    5-m 10G SFP+ Twinax cable assembly, passive

passive twinax max distance is 5m, if you need more, e.g. 7 and 10m, you need active twinax.
Active copper cables contain electrical components in the connectors that boost signal levels. This makes active copper cables slightly more expensive than passive copper cables; however, they can connect the Converged Network Adapter (CNA) to a top-of-the-rack switch over longer distances than passive copper cables.

    Kindly advice. Thanks.

    Hi,
I'd like to confirm you, that passive assembly is supported. Haven't tried the actives one yet.
    I'm using UCS-B200 M3, and EMC VNX 5300.
the EMC VNX5300 (Block Level) connected using 2 type of media. Copper (SFP-H10GB-CU5M= 5-m 10G SFP+ Twinax cable assembly, passive) and Fiber Channel 8 GB directly info Fabric Interconnect 6248 ports.
For old server the connection is via iSCSI 10GB Copper. and for UCS-B200 M3 is via FC 8GB.
All my configuration is running well.
    Hope thats helped.
    Thanks,

  • 10GE Twinax cables connecting to servers NIC which accept 10GE SFP+

Anyone has any real life experience of using the Cisco 10GE Twinax cables to connect this to servers with NIC cards that accept SFP+? I'm talking servers like HP and Dell which have 10GE NIC cards. For the switch,  I would be using Nexus 5548UP. The SFP+ part number would be SFP-H10GB-ACU10M.
The SFP-10G-SR is too expensive and I'm looking at 10GE Twinax cables as an alternative but am quite concerned about the compatability.

Yes, the twinax cables are all we ever use to connect servers to Nexus 5ks. We have used them with both Qlogic and Emulex CNAs. If the server is more than 10m from the switch the 10G-SR and 50 micron fiber are required.

  • Cisco NAM2320 SFP+/Twinax compatibility

    Hi,
Is the NAM2320 Compatible with the below Twinax Cables?
    SFP-H10GB-CU1M

    Hi Edward,
The Cisco 2300 installation guide contains a warning in the Requirements and Restrictions as well as the Connecting the Ports - Direct Connections section as follows:
WARNING: Do not use a SFP-H10GB-CU5M (Cisco part) cable to connect a switch and a Cisco Prime NAM 2320
    appliance.
There may be more details in the bug tracker regarding this issue.

  • New 10 Meter twinax cable

According to the updated compatibility matrix, the new 10 Meter twinax SFP-H10GB-ACU10M cable does not show interoperability with the Catalyst 6500 67xx 10 Gig linecards (With CVR-X2-SFP10G converter for X2 ports). The shorter 1-5 meter twinax cables show that they are interoperable.
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/partner/docs/interfaces_modules/transceiver_modules/compatibility/matrix/OL_6974.html
Does anyone know if this is incorrect and just not yet updated.
    Thanks.

I suspect it might have something to do with the CVR-X2-SFP10G, seeing that the converter module data sheet also does not list any length of the Active Twinax cables being compatible.
I am trying to reach out to someone within the Product Mgmt org to see if they can provide an answer... but my contacts are old....

  • Sfp-h10gb-acu10m compatibility

                       Dear all,
Does anybody know if  SFP-H10GB-ACU10M cable is compatible with Cisco Catalyst 2960-S series? According to the compatibility matrix it is not compatible with Cisco IOS release 12.2 (53) SE1, but i would like to know if it would be compatible with another IOS version.
    Thanks in advance,

  • Connect 4500X with spf+ twinax cables

Hi what would I need to connect the 4500X with spf+ twinax cables?

Double check the 10 Gbps transceiver compatibility list. Technically only the 1, 3 and 5m versions are supported.
I've used them all without any issue in the 4500X. No special commands are necessary.

  • 1310 twinax cable

Hello all, I have aquestion about a 1310 wireless bridge we have installed on top of a 9 story building. It is connected to the injector with a 100ft and a 50ft section of twinax cable with a barrel connector in between them. It has been operating for almost a 9 months very well. Now it only stays up for one or two days. The radio stays connected to the 1310 on the adjacent bulding, it's the ethernet connection from the injector through the twinax cable up to the AP on the roof that fails. We have already replaced the 50ft section of cable. Could it be a moisture/cold problem? If I disconnect the twinax and reconnect it, it comes back up (but only for a day or two).

Yes, I had similar problems with mine. You can check for loose connections or faulty connectors.
    Try the following:
    >sh int fa0 --> if you see input and CRC errors you are likely having this problem.

  • 10G-Ethernet RJ45 (10GBASE-T) and direct attached SFP+ Twinax (10GBASE-CR)?

    Hello,
    I'm searching a switch that does support 10G-Ethernet RJ45 (10GBASE-T) and direct attached SFP+ Twinax (10GBASE-CR).
I do not have big requirements, but it should be as cheap as possible.

Would like to connect an SFP+ port to 10GBASE-T port?
Maybe a media converter is enough for your demand.

  • SFP-H10GB-CU1M SFP+ Copper Cable module speed shows as Unknown

I have connected 2 SG500x switches using an SFP-H10GB-CU1M SFP+ Copper Cable module.  Since the port shows as a 10G port, I would expect the speed to show as 10G as well.  However, it shows as "Unknown".  This doesn't leave me with confidence that it is being recognized properly.  The link is working properly, but I haven't run tests to verify if I'm getting full 10G throughput or not.  I'll work on that.  In the meantime, anyone have any ideas as to the proper behavior here?  Shouldn't it show 10G as the link speed?

    Hi Robert,
I love the GUI, so easy to navigate, when you get the feel for the layout of the switch options. So going to ask you to use the GUI to find the stacking status and  speed between the switches..
Step 1.  Select help at the top right of the GUI screen,
Step 2.  Type in as a search option "stack speed " then clock go
    see my screen capture below,.
( The switch has basically an Administration guide built in., a really cool cool feature  )
    So you see the following screen capture that shows the option that I selected;
Followed the instruction outlines in the online help text,  the following screen capture shows me the stacking speed.,
I have two by SG500-52P, my SG500X are loaned out to a partner to evaluate,   so i can only run 5G over the SFP-H10GB-CU1M  stacking module on this platform.
Hope this helps you clarify where to find stack module speed.

  • CISCO CATALYST 3560 SFP INTERCONNECT CABLE

What is the advantage of using this SFP cable over a 1000BaseT GBIC and daisy chaining the switches together?
    Just curious???
    Thanks!

The advantage comes down to cost. Whether you can realize this advantage depends on the distance between the two Catalyst 3560 switches.
If the distance is less than or equal to 50cm, then one SFP Interconnect Cable (CAB-SFP-50CM=) at US$250 is a much less expensive way to connect the two switches than two 1000BASE-T SFP (GLC-T=) at US$395 each = US$790 plus a Cat5 or better UTP Gigabit Ethernet crossover cable.
If the distance is greater than 50cm but less than or equal to 100m, then the 1000BASE-T SFPs are your least expensive option. The alternative is MM or SM fiber.
If you have to connect a Catalyst 3560 SFP interface to another Catalyst switch that takes GBICs, then the SFP Interconnect Cable is not even an option. From 0 to 100m, 1000BASE-T SFP and GBIC (WS-G5483=) would be your least expensive way to go.
If there's any chance you will be redeploying these switches somewhere else in the future, you may want to put the 1000BASE-T SFPs in now. That way you'll already have them when you need them later.

  • Twinax cable Nexus 5000

    Hi,
According to this matrix the Nexus 5000 don't support 2meters Twinax SFP+ cable.

Thanks!  I thought it should be resolved in a later release. And I didn't know 6.0 was released.
Do you also know when (or if it's already is) 2meters is supported in UCS Fabric Interconnect 6200?
