SFTP and the FTP Log - DW MX2004

Can anyone tell me why DW MX2004's FTP Log just records blank
lines when using SFTP? Is there a way to change this and do later
versions do the same thing?
Thanks!

Folks:
Problem solved.
It's clear that FTP and SFTP are fundamentally different protocols, but the DW protocol selection strongly implies similarity by offering SFTP as a minor option under the main selection of FTP.    I think it would be much clearer if SFTP were offered as a major option -- and then there would be an opportunity for offering SFTP options, too.
Here's a way of distinguishing which of these two is active:  Connecting to the target site using FTP results in a succession of text entries in the optionally viewable FTP log  -- no surprise.   I discovered that connecting to the same site with the same credentials and the addition of checking the "Use SFTP" option results in only line feeds --scrolling, but no visible text-- in the FTP log window.  I guess that's a reasonable though a bit indirect way of informing users that the link is active and secure.   (What does one do to diagnose problems with SFTP for hosting services that don't support FTP?  I don't know there are such services but it should be the great majority of them.)  Works in DW CS3 but I didn't check CS5.
Another option, untested but fairly obvious:  It's fairly easy these days to control host s/w (personal) firewalls -- even for low-tech users.  Establish and verify a link to your server using SFTP, then disable FTP; the link should fail.  And vice-versa.  This meets my specification of "simple" and should be  available with no extra expense and little trouble.
Brief Editorial:  From the recent reading I've done on FTP versus SFTP,  it is clear that the time to discontinue all support for FTP  is long past.

  • DW on Mac, CS3/CS5 using SFTP and/or FTP, need it secure!

    Folks:
DW CS3 or CS5 running on an quad-Intel iMac, 10.6.4, connecting to a host that uses identical credentials for SFTP and FTP.
It's important to be assured that the connection is in fact secure.
If you set  "connect using SFTP" will DW CS3 complain if the connection cannot be made securely?  Will DW then default to ordinary, insecure FTP?  If so, will DW inform you?   Is there an easy way of verifying the current connection mode, SFTP or FTP, within DW? (The FTP connection log does not say.)  Is there an easy way of doing it in MacOS or with a simple utility? (Can be done, but not conveniently, with L'il Snitch.)
    Is DW CS5 any different?

  • Understanding the FTP Log

Can anyone tell me what the letters after a filename in the ftp log are? Or even where I might be able to find info? I'm trying to solve an access list/ file deletion problem.
    Fri Apr 13 16:28:27 2007 1 172.16.2.12 0 /Volumes/ProductionRAID/FTPAccess/CustomerFTP/test.txt a _ o r marketing ftp 0 * c

    It means the following.
    transfer_type => a = ascii
    specialactionflag => _
    direction => o = outgoing
    access_mode => r = authenticated user
The FTP log file is a bit cryptic. It contains such information as, Date/Time, Transfer-Time in seconds, Who accessed the file, File-Size transferred, Filename, Transfer-Type (a=ascii, b=binary), Direction (o=outgoing, i=incoming), Access-Mode (a=anonymous, g=guest, r=authenticated user), Username, Service-Name(service envoked, e.g. ftp), Authentication-Method(0=none, 1=RFC931), and Authenticated-User-ID(user id returned by authentication method. A * is used if id is not available).

  • Why Don't I See Any Content in the FTP Log?

I am having trouble uploading files to my production server at Valcato Hosting.  (I have done this many times before without any problem.)  I was able to get a screen shot of a message that flashed on the screen when the uploading of files was aborted -- the message said, "4 files skipped".  There was nothing at all written to the FTP log that appears at the bottom of my (Classic) Dreamweaver GUI.  It is empty.
Can someone please tell me if I need to do something in order to see the content of the FTP log?
Here is a link that I found on the Adobe website that certainly implies to me that whenever one uploads or downloads files, the FTP log will show the result of each movement.

Right-click on one of the other panel headings in the library module such as Folders, and make sure there is a checkmark in collections.

  • EDI processing and the application log

    All,
It is my understanding that when an EDI message is processed if there is more than one error the errors will be put in the application log.   If only one error it is not placed in the application log.
Does any one have any ideas why on occassion if there is one error the process will put it in the application log?
    Thanks
    Sandra

We discovered that if the idoc has several line item segments and they all have the same error that results in the error count being greater than one.   So the process will put the error on the application log - but it does not repeat the same error so it looks like it was only one error when in fact it was several.   For example:
the idoc has 3 line items all for GRbasedIV where the delivery is not done.
the idoc process will identify 3 errors (1 per line item missing a delivery)
the process will put the errors on the application log because the error count is greater than 1
because the error is the same only one of the 3 errors shows up on the application log.
    Regards,
    Sandra

  • I have Dreamweaver CS5.5 and the FTP will not work. Any Ideas?

Hello anyone out there. I just got off the phone with Adobe and they no longer support the product.
    I keep getting this message:
Toggling the "use Passive FTP" checkbox may help you establish a connection.
-Select or de-delect the checkbox and click Test to try again.
_If you are connecting to an IPv6 enabled server, please select the "Use IPv6 transfer mode" checkbox in the Advanced site definition dialog.
If the problem persists, check your network settings, including hte local firewall settings on your computer, or consult your network administrator.
I cannot connect to the server and I have checked everything with Godaddy and it is fine. I have checked with Apple and it is all fine and the cache is empty.
    Any ideas?

I'm guessing your site is not properly defined.  See screenshots below from Site > Manage Sites.
Servers: Root Directory is whatever your hosting provider (GoDaddy) told you to use.  This varies by web host.  The most commonly used ones are html_docs, public_html or www.
Click the TEST button.  If you're connected, Save and exit this panel.  If you can't connect, click More Options:

  • Content Enrichment Service and the Crawl Log

    Hi,
I am wondering if there's a possibility to inject custom error details from the content enrichment service into the crawl log? If an item fails processing in the CEWS the crawl log shows
The item failed due to an error occurring when sending or receiving data to the external content processing
    enrichment web service.
I would like to place my own custom error message depending on what went wrong during CEWS processing. How Can I do that?

If you look in the ULS logs you should see something like this:
Flows: [Microsoft.CrawlerFlow-6de14b76-2720-4b71-8dc9-3a06eb04f1f5] Evaluation Error: ContentProcessingEnrichmentClientEvaluator Microsoft.Ceres.Evaluation.DataModel.EvaluationException: The content processing enrichment service returned error code 9.
Where in this case I sent back the error code of '9' via the ProcessedItem.ErrorCode, you need to send back different error codes depending on what went wrong in your CEWS. You define what the codes mean.
    See  http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/microsoft.office.server.search.contentprocessingenrichment.processeditem.errorcode.aspx
Gets or sets an optional error Id. It is up to the implementer to define errors. The default value of is 0, meaning no error.
I don't think you can send a message back, just an error code:
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/microsoft.office.server.search.contentprocessingenrichment.processeditem_members.aspx
In the crawl logs I don't even see this error code!, all I see are these:
The item failed due to an error occurring when sending or receiving data to the external content processing enrichment web service. ( Failed to process the results returned by the content processing enrichment service.; ; SearchID = 7FB263D8-5B9B-446E-A140-78B07CC77B00
What I recommend you instead do is catch exception messages in your code and log them some other way...

  • Idocs and the application log

    Hello there,
i have a general question. I am about to integrate idocs into an interface managing program and i wanted to know if idocs are known to use the application log for writing (error) messages.
I know they have the possiblity to do so, but i do not know if this is frequently used or even used at all. At least it is not on my system.
Thanks in advance for your answers.
    Kind regards
    Jonas Liebstückel

no, I am thinking this has to do with the IDOC-type - either you can flag the use of the application log somewhere in the IDOC-configuration or the processing funciton modules are doing it. I would have to dig around to find out, but so can you: just check along the WE* with MATMAS and look at the function modules that are behind the processing code ... WE41

  • Mac pro goes to sleep and the error  log say "The smart launch will be terminated"

Several times in the last few days my Mac Pro early 2008 has locked up.  This occures when leave the machine and come back to it.  I see the screen is black and the only thing that I see after clicking the mouse and pressing keys on the keyboard, is the white outline of the curser that will move across the screen.  Nothing will bring the system back and my only option is to hold down the power button until the unit shuts down.
I checked the logs in the console and the error message that I see is:  mm/dd/yy 9:49:17.719 AM SmartLaunch[31448]: The SmartLaunch will be terminated.
Any clue where I should start looking?

That is a great idea to check the memory temperture.  Do they have built in temperture senors and then is there a terminal command to run to check that?  Also how do I change the speed of the fans, again a terminal command?
I was mistaken, I bought 4- 4GB memory modules, with heatsinks. (8GB were tooooo expensive)  It should be good memory but certainly I wonder as this never happened before the new memory was added, 5 or 6 weeks ago.
    My memory config is:
    2 - 1 GB (orginal whe n I got the sytem)
2 - 2 GB added 1 year ago from OWC
    4 - 4 GB added 6 weeks ago from ??
Good suggetions about the hard drive.   I did add a new Seagate 3TB drive a year ago when I got this machine, and I use it for all my data stoage and tunes and pixs and only use the 250GB dirve of OS and apps.  I have not installed the OS and apps on the 3TB drive and that would be an easy thing to do.

"Remember me" options are stored in cookies. First try removing the cookies for the site and then log in and see if it remembers you the next time you visit the site. Details of how to do that are shown in the [[deleting cookies]] article.
If that does not work, the file that stores cookies may be corrupt and you can try deleting the file to see if that resolves the problem.

  • PI is not able to pick the file from the FTP folder

This is the FILE TO IDOC scenario. We have configured the file adapter. But its not able to pick the file from the specified directory. We have tried changing the transfer mode from Binary to Txt & also we have tried to put advance selection for source file but it didn't work. Its throwing the below error:

Also we have contacted the FTP team & they told that PI is sending an unsupported command. So instead of taking the file TLOG.txt, its treating this file name a s a directory. Please find the logs from FTP end below:

    Hi Sisir
The screen shot of your config doesn't seem to correspond to the FTP log. I say this because the * is dropped from file name pattern "*TLOG.txt" (comparing your config and the FTP log). Can you share an updated FTP log?

Also, like Rajesh suggested, have you tried to manually check permissions by logging in, traversing the directory, and getting the file?
By the way, we always use backslash \ instead of forward slash in our configs. Not sure this would make any difference for you though. Also, I don't normally use a trailing \ at the end of the source directory path.

  • Passive FTP and the Leopard firewall

    Hi,
We have an staff upload server that uses the built-in Leopard firewall. It is fed by two proprietary applications, one of which uses passive ftp only. We are getting a small number of incidents where the passive upload is unsuccessful. Initial contact is made (visible in the logs and as a connection in the server admin gui) but the upload doesn't proceed. A user might try uploading several times without success. On other occasions, the same user from the same computer has no problems at all.
We have the ftp service enabled on port 20-21 and the FTP service PASV port range enabled 49152-65535.
If I add the uploading computers' ip number to an access group with no port restrictions on the firewall, the uploads are always successful.
With my very limited knowledge of ftp and firewalls, this suggest that the negotiated port for the data transfer is outside the default port range used by Apple. Is this likely? Are there any implications in changing the range?
Or am I totally confused and should I be looking elsewhere?
    Thanks,
    Ross Glover

By default, the FTP server doesn't restrict itself to any particular passive port range. To make it match what the firewall claims it should be, edit the file /Library/FTPServer/Configuration/ftpaccess and add the line:
    passive ports 0.0.0.0/0 49152 65535
...then restart the FTP service and retest.

For the ftp user, only folder he can see is the folder where the drop takes place.
But the ftp is calling a CWD / which is making the folder to go a folder backwards and the user do not have access to that folder and hence we get FTP error.
The Transfer code did not change at all.

We do not know how to set the ASCII mode for JMS ConnectionFactory.
Anyone has any idea how to resolve this issue? This is a showstopper and very critical for our project.

We have an application which transfers huge files between unix servers through JMS.
We had Solaris 8 and the ftp was working just fine.
But after we rebuilt our server to Solaris 10,the ftp does not work.
When tracing the ftp we found this in logs.

For the ftp user, only folder he can see is the folder where the drop takes place.
But the ftp is calling a CWD / which is making the folder to go a folder backwards and the user do not have access to that folder and hence we get FTP error.
The Transfer code did not change at all.
