Sftp fails on OS X Mavericks with broken pipe

I'm (eventually) getting a broken pipe failure when attempting to connect an sftp session to a local Ubuntu Linux host. I can open an ssh session with no problems. I've tried with both password and public key authentication, and this doesn't seem to be the problem (see debug output below).
From an Ubuntu VM running under Fusion on the same Mac I can connect without problems (see second listing below).
Can anyone tell me what the problem is?
Tail of the debug listing for the OS-X session follows:
debug1: Host 'pptablet.local' is known and matches the RSA host key.

I can't get HP Scan to work. From my investigations, HP failed to update /Library/Image Capture/Support/Hewlett-Packard/Frameworks/HPScanProfiles.framework/Versions/A/ HPScanProfiles to point to /Library/Printers/hp/Frameworks/HPDeviceModel.framework/Versions/4.0/HPDeviceMo del places, vice /HPDeviceModel.framework/Versions/3.0. I can launch HP Scan, but an error comes up, which basically says reinstall the HP software, not the HP Printer Drivers update. I'm still working on that step.
Using the HP Photosmart C4600 Series app, the Printers & Scanners prefPane, or Image Capture, I can get the scanner to work and it saves without any issues.

  • Snow Leopard unusable with Broken Pipe messages in the console

    Hello
    Recently, probably after having installed OS X 10.6.8, I noticed that after a while, something within the OS becomes saturated leading to no new processes being able to be started.  All existing programs continue to run and all seems normal except if a running program needs to call another program (e.g., Mail needing to fetch a password from Keychain Access).
    The console then becomes awash with broken pipe messages and a whole bunch of error logs are created for various programs.
    This is causing me great irritation as everytime I am forced to restart the machine (sometimes by forcing a hard-reboot).
    I would really appreciate any help on this matter.  I would rather not have to completely re-install the OS if I can help it.

    I was hoping I'd get a magic solution instead of the dreaded OS reinstall.
    That is the magic solution, it gives you a new OS X copy which you immediately update, leaves all your files and programs alone. (unless they have kernel extensions and you need to update those programs)
    It's fast, easy and simple, it's Lion "overwrites" that are a pain because it needs the Internet.
    There is only one person here that spends his time analyzing such under the hood details and usually has to tell you what I'm saying anyway because that's the only way to correct it.
    I'm trying to get you done and out of my way and you back to your life.
    I must say that I am quite disappointed with the kernel failing in this way - it is not really in keeping with the robust/Unix reputation...
    Don't know what the problem is, it is very robust, but hard drives are based on magnetic bits and those bits fail, the best OS in the world can't stand up if the chair it's standing on is kicked out from underneath it.
    OS X only takes 4.5GB, Apple could have incorporates a automatic recovery parttion check upon boot and restored OS X if if didn't boot, but they didn't do that.
    Then when they have to place a recovery partiton like in Lion as they are phasing out the optical drive, they make one get online to get a new copy of OS X.
    How stupid is that?

  • OSB 11g proxy service test console fail with Broken pipe

    Hi everyone.
    I have a strange problem with OSB test console (and sometime with java client). The proxy I built cannot response after several request. In other word, I tried to test console for dozens time, sometime I cannot have response from OSB. I wait for the response for 5 minutes and get some strange exception, that is broken pipe, but error code is not unique.
    I cannot understand why my proxy service stuck in that exception. Can you help me to solve it ?
    Any suggestion is appreciated.
    P/S: that is log record on server:

    Hi, everyone.
    This is my proxy service that was tested above. Can you show me some instructions for tuning it? On these day, I get many bad performance responses from that service.

  • Cant mount dmg; what is broken pipe?

    I'm downloading software from Version Tracker and software originator's websites (Adobe). The dmg's download OK, but when they are opened they fail to mount; reason given is "broken pipe". Anyone have ideas how to deal with this? Dmg's downloaded from Apple Software Update do NOT do this.
    Thanks!

    Still not quite clear about what you did. If you have all your data backed up on another drive (which is NOT connected to the computer), did you do this:
    1. Insert original install disk (with nothing whatsoever connected to computer)
    2. Select erase drive and install the OS
    3. Create an admin account with the same name as your original
    5. WITHOUT importing anything from your backup, tried to use Disk Utility and tried to mount a dmg file
    If that's what you did and neither Disk Utility nor DiskImageMounter will work I suspect you have a hardware problem.

  • Broken Pipe Error

    Downloaded and tried to install Streamclip but I get an error. "The following disk images failed to mount" "MPEGStreamclip1.9.1 Broken pipe" is this a problem with the download or is something wrong with my system?
    Have a G5, OS X 10.4.11, 1.8 GHz PowerPC
    1 GB DDR SDRAM

    Well, it's meant to be the first thing you mention, but can be the OS misbehaving.
    Do these two things & reboot if you haven't...

  • Broken Pipe/Connection Reset By Peer IO Exceptions

    Can someone explain what causes a connection reset by peer exception vs.
              a Broken Pipe IO exception? I realize they are generally caused by
              someone hitting stop, closing their browser, hitting a different link,
              etc.. but I was trying to understand what might cause a connection
              reset by peer exception vs. a broken pipe exception. I've added code to
              my servlet to suppress the "Connection Reset By Peer" socket exceptions
              but I'm wondering if I should do the same with Broken Pipe. Also, are
              there are other types of similar exceptions that can occur when users
              get impatient.. Thanks

    I do not have an idea about your application server but i do know how i solved it in weblogic. Just see whether this is helpful to you.
    Points to be sure of........
    1) Make sure that when ever you request a connection from a pool, after you are done with it return it. If you are not returning it and trying to use that reference again, this problem will occur.
    2) Look at the capabilities of your app server. Set the connection pool such that
    a) All the connections are checked at regular interval with some default select statement from any table in the database.
    b) Connections are check when the connection is checked out and returned to the pool.
    I the connection object is not ready , close it and create a new one. The app server which manages the pool should implement these feature so that when you get the connection - its the tested and working object.
    If your app server does not support - then think of ways you testing it before you using it(Anyway this is not the good solution).

    I can't guess this issue has to do with Database and its driver.
    Possible reason could be that the browser is closed when the site is rendering the response from the server.
    The error indicates the communication is broken.
    This particular servlet/jsp is trying to write something on the response stream for which the call started from the below line:

  • Installing a fresh copy of OS X Mavericks from USB on iMac 12,1 with broken SuperDrive.

    Hi,
    I want to get a fresh copy of OS X Mavericks on my iMac 12,1 (mid-2011 - i5 2,5GHz, 8GB RAM, AMD Radeon 6750M with 512MB) with broken SuperDrive. I made a pendrive with DiskMaker X, but I can't boot it anymore on iMac. My flash drive isn' corrupt - it performs well on MacBook Pro. What can I do to install it on iMac?
    Greetings,
    Jakub Borys
    Post scriptum - Sorry for my poor English.

    Oh, man, I wish I had something useful to offer. It sounds bad. Really bad.
    Do you have a friend -- or possibly a Mac ot work -- from which you could make a new USB Mavericks installer? I only say that because I've read of a few problems here and there with boot drives made with DiskMaker X. What I'd recommend, if it's at all possible, is to download the latest Mavericks DMG file, reformat the USB drive with a fresh GUID partition and then burn the disk image onto it with the Mavericks built in createinstallmedia method. Here's a link to an article which describes how to do it: http://www.macworld.com/article/2056561/how-to-make-a-bootable-mavericks-install -drive.html. This is, in fact, the very article which got me onto the right path.
    You'd think that a bootable Mavericks installer would be a bootable Mavericks installer no matter how it was made. Sadly, that doesn't seem to be the case.

    Sorry you've decided this is a rant but the objective observer would know that  all I want is a solution to at least the 3 issues mentioned. I spent the better part of 2 nights with techs that had me doing all the standard refresh items, i.e. setting the PRAM... and as time goes on my frustration grows. Last week spent days trying to find the driver software Maverick now needs and Apple is supposed to have it and doesn't. So at what point does this become a rant? I've done things the right way had mucho patience thus far and as a kicker, Apple won't let me download Mountain Lion to reinstall and rid my self of Maverick. Tell me, would you complain?

    Hi,
    We use WLS 8.1 SP2 and Oracle 8i and the oracle thin jdbc driver ojdbc14.jar shipped

    Inserting a clob >32k an SQL exception is raised ("Broken Pipe") and the db connection

    Perhaps the current driver doesn't work with 8i ??
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks in advance

    Thanks in advanceThe first thing to do is to try Oracle's latest version of the thin driver.
    Joe
    We switched to Oracle 9.2.0.4.0 and installed the latest thin driver ojdbc14.jar
    (for Oracle 9.2.0.3). But there is always the same problem.
    Ok. As a last step before contacting Oracle, would you run that code,
    changing it to get it's connection directly from the oracle driver?
    If the same problem occurs, we can file a TAR with Oracle.
    Joe
    This is the code:
    PreparedStatement ps = null;
    try {
    con.prepareStatement(DBConstants.CREATE_IMPORT_LOG_ERROR);
    ps.setLong(1, logId);
    ps.setLong(2, recNo);
    ps.setInt(3, errorType);
    if (rec == null) rec = "NULL RECORD";
    CharArrayReader cReader = new CharArrayReader(rec.toCharArray());
    ps.setCharacterStream(4, cReader, rec.length());
    ps.setInt(5, PDBConstants.IMPORT_LOG_ERROR_STATUS_OPEN);
    ps.setString(6, "A");
    ps.executeUpdate();

  • Recovering the failed server to the Cluser !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! BROKEN PIPE

    Hi,
              I have a weblogic cluster with 2 managed servers on 2 different machines,
              Now i have an application.ear which is kept on the first server and while deploying i choose the option "copy to the other server" and i deploy this EAR to the cluster.
              Mine is a applet-servlet based application and the applet gets downloaded onto client browser.
              Now when both the servers are up load balancing and the failover is also happening.Now the problem is when rejoing the failed server back to the cluster.
              I have setup the classpath entries and arguments entries "Remote Start" tab in the server configuration,
              I bring back the server through weblogic console and it joins the cluster also without any problem.
              The problem is if some users have already opened the application then after rejoining also it works fine.
              But if a new user tries to access the applications what happens is
              we get

    There were no memory messages in our logs for SQL server.Ok. And this only happens during a big sequence of inserts? Let me see your code,

    You most likely ran a defective third-party "utility" such as "CleanMyMac" or "MacCleanse" that purports to "clean up" "junk" files. What it really does is to corrupt the operating system and many applications.
    The first thing you need to do is remove that software according to the developer's instructions. Never install it, or anything like it, again. Then see below.
    If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data, then reinstall the OS.* You don't need to erase the startup volume, and you won't need the backup unless something goes wrong. If the system was upgraded from an older version of OS X, you may need the Apple ID and password you used.
    If you use FileVault 2, then before running the Installer you must launch Disk Utility and select the icon of the FileVault startup volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name.) It will be nested below another icon with the same name. Click the Unlock button in the toolbar and enter your login password when prompted. Then quit Disk Utility to be returned to the main Recovery screen.
    There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
    If you installed the Java runtime distributed by Apple and still need it, you'll have to reinstall it. The same goes for Xcode. All other data will be preserved.
    *The linked support article refers to OS X 10.9 ("Mavericks"), but the procedure is the same for OS X 10.7 ("Lion") and later.

  • Mounting .dmg failed--broken pipe

    I've just upgraded to Tiger to try to solve this problem, but it did not help.
    What can I do now?
    I have something corrupt that does not allow .dmg files to set up and can't prepair the disk image to open....Mounting Failed--broken pipe.
    However, the file shows up in my download file at the correct size, when i try to open it with Disk Image Mounter (right click) nothing happens.
    I was hoping that upgrading os would correct this, but no. This 'broken pipe' must be a clue. Am I missing some file? What could it be. I do not want to do an archive and install if I can help it.

    Hi Richard, Welcome to Apple's Users Help Users Forums.
    I have seen 'broken pipe' on these forums. Do a search on pipe and see what you find.
    Good Luck, JP
