SFWgkrel under Solaris 10 x86/64
Hello hello...
'desperately looking for the SFWgkrel package for an x86/64 bits Solaris 10 platform.
'Found it easily for the SPARC architecture.
Any hints?
Many thanks in advance...

I'm looking for Solaris 10 x86 64 bit OS. I downloaded one from OTN and appearently it is 32 bit. Can anybody let me know where to download 64 bit version?
From
[URL: http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/server-storage/solaris/downloads/index.html]
Oracle Solaris 10 (x86) (2,009,606,091 bytes) (md5sum: cb55f4b7af194f6378aa5f304f3ea8fc)
Starting with the Solaris 10 3/05 release, packaging has been simplified with the delivery of most 32-bit components and 64-bit components in a single package. The combined packages retain the names of the original 32-bit packages, and the 64-bit packages are no longer delivered.
The removal of the 64-bit packages simplifies installation and increases performance:
Reduces the number of packages, which simplifies Custom JumpStart scripts that contain lists of packages
Simplifies the packaging system with only one package that groups software functions
Reduces installation time because fewer packages are installed
The 64-bit packages are renamed with the following conventions:
If a 64-bit package has a 32-bit counterpart, the 64-bit package is named with the 32-bit package name. For example, a 64-bit library such as /usr/lib/sparcv9/libc.so.1 previously would have been delivered in SUNWcslx, but now is delivered in SUNWcsl. The 64-bit SUNWcslx package is no longer delivered.
If a package does not have a 32-bit counterpart, the “x” suffix is removed from the name. For example, SUNW1394x becomes SUNW1394.
This change means that you might need to modify your custom JumpStart script or other package installation scripts to remove references to the 64-bit packages.
Please let me know if this helps.

Solaris 8 x86 and 10 x86 differences
I have a device driver that works on Solaris 8 x86. I installed this same device driver on a box with Solaris 10 x86. Under Solaris 10 x86 I get a message "WARNING: minor name <tec
_0> is not compatible network driver name <tec>". Also, opening the device under Solaris 10 x86 will cause the OS to quit responding. Where can I find a list of differences between Solaris 8 x86 and Solaris 10 x86?
Thanks.

Solaris 10/X86 install appears to have destroyed my display.
Hello folks -
I'm new here, I searched and did not find anything that matched so I'm posting. If I'm asking about something previously covered, please be patient, I'll learn.
I am running an Asus A7N8 Deluxe motherboard with an Athlon 2800+, standard ATA/133 drives and an Nvidia 6800 AGP supplied by PNY. My display is a Viewsonic VA2012wb, which I've since learned is only available at a well-known warehouse membership store.
I've been using this setup under XP for some months now, and yesterday I decided to try and install Sol10/X86 again now that some new drivers are available that support my onboard LAN. Nothing untoward happened during the install (I'm very familiar with the process on Sparc hardware), and I was asked to reboot so I could start installing CD2.
Suddenly, no display on boot. Troubleshooting ensued, and I found that I was able to get the monitor to display if I connected the VGA cable instead of the DVI interface I've successfully used all this time.
Subsequent troubleshooting included:
1. Changing out the 6800 with a 6200 I had on hand.
2. Booting to XP to see if the Nvidia Twinview stuff had become confused - The Nvidia software behaved as if there was nothing available on the DVI input, so many menus did not even appear.
3. Checking with Viewsonic to make sure that I was clear on how the monitor selects inputs. It's largely automatic, but hitting the '2' key on the front panel forces a rescan of the analog and digital inputs.
4. Substituting another display on this workstation, with all cables unchanged, so I could verify that the DVI output on my video card still worked. Tested fine.
5. Moving the affected display to another workstation, to see if it was capable of functioning on the DVI input from a different machine. It was not, test failed.
6. Unplugging everything and letting it sit for over an hour (while I fumed) - test failed.
7. Returned the affected display to Costco today, for a spanky new one. It worked great on DVI with existing hardware (and under XP) this afternoon, so I decided to re-start my Solaris install.
Lather, rinse, repeat, or so I was about to find out....
After I was asked to reboot from CD1, my display died again.
Just like yesterday, it's currently working fine on the VGA input/dead to the world on DVI, and just like yesterday, everything was fine until the first reboot after the Solaris CD1. I repeated the most pertinent aspects of my prior diagnostic steps, and then I went out to the back porch to curse and throw tools until I felt better.
I cannot find a hardware reset button for the display, and an old friend of mine reports that he had a similar issue under Solaris 8/X86 in which he ended up blowing up a CRT. The Sol8 installer was overdriving the monitor.
That said, I don't think that the DVI interface is able to 'overdrive' a monitor, and that confuses me more deeply. I know that if I (re)abuse the return policy of this warehouse store once more tomorrow and get a new display it will fix the problem, but I'm hoping that I can fix this in house!
I refuse to believe that Solaris is actually frying the DVI input on my display, but I do have clear evidence that it the installer is a destructive force, at least with Nvidia cards and a VA2012wb. I'm seeing some similar threads on the Linux forums, some mentioning the part number of my display in specific, but no clear resolutions yet.
Any thoughts?
- EliOK, well... I did a restart, invoking the 'option' command, and the Lion Recovery partition did not show up, so I went ahead and booted back into SL, wherein I was given a 'The disk you inserted was not readable by this computer' with a choice of ejecting, ignoring, or initializing. I chose Ignore, and the drive now just shows up in disk utility as 'media' with no opportunity to interact with it.
I had the presence of mind to make a Lion DVD before I installed, so I booted with that, and it too was unable to interact with the drive.
Given the degraded state of this drive, I have no reason to suspect that entering target disk mode and mounting to my MBP would bear any fruit... looks like this sucker is beyond hope. Yay...
I will not be re-installing Lion until at least .2 comes out at this point.. I can't afford a wasted day like this again. -

Probably the files could not be compiled because of errors in the first place.
Try to download the source for apache and compile it for the current platform, otherwise you could get wrong settings. -

Hi,
I'm trying to compile the current svn release of mono (free implementation of .NET framework) under Solaris 10/x86.
After fixing some GCC specific code, I'm currently stuck with the GCC internal function __builtin_frame_address (and __builtin_return_address).
These functions return information about the current stack trace, e.g. the function that invokes the current function. They are used in the integrated debugger for single stepping and other functionality.
So far I haven't been able to find a workaround for these function within the Studio Compiler.
What's is the best way to implement these function? Does the Studio Compiler (or the libc or some other library) already provide the necessary functionality?
With best regards,
Burkhard LinkeI'm afraid you have to write assembly code for that sort of functions

Installing Solaris 10 x86 under VMWare
I got Solaris 10 x86 release 03/05 installed and working under Windows XP VMWare 5.0. I tried to install under Windows XP VMWare 4.5.1, but there was strange behavior: JDS freezes when mouse is clicked on anything on the desktop. Strange thing was that this did not happen until well after the install and using JDS for a few days.
I think it may have something to do with the X VMWare video driver. By default, it seems to choose VMWare 0405; I changed this to VMWare SGA Virtual Display. Seems okay now (using same virtual machine and install of Solaris).
Any other notes anyone has to add?
Thanx,
GBI noticed similar issues, but if you have a window open like an xterm, you can Alt-TAB and regain control. I am not sure it is the X server, but would love to know how to troubleshoot it better.
It seems that if you are clicked in a window, you will be forced to type in that window. But you can open a new X client (like xterm), but you have to Alt-TAB to get to it. Once you cycle through using Alt-TAB, it appears that the mouse control returns.
I have not been able to consistently reproduce it. I have VMware 4.0 and high resolution display by setting up Xorg.conf. -
Solaris 9 x86 bug report - el_GR.ISO8859-7 & CDE
I'm posting this article here, because I can't find any official Solaris 9 x86 bug report page. I hope the developers will notice it. I'm using Solaris 9 x86 (12/02), with the latest 9_x86_Recommended patch cluster installed, and support for Greek installed too.
It seems there is some kind of problem, when trying to view text files with Greek (el_GR.ISO8859-7) characters, which were created under Windows. To be more specific:
If I boot at CDE with language el_GR.ISO8859-7, and try to view a .txt file (just with a simple double click), which I have created under Windows, with Greek characters,
the screen goes black, and the CDE login screen appears again (restarts). If I keep the Greek language or change the language to US English, I can boot at CDE again, with
no problems. If I try "command line logging", the screen goes off - just like when the computer is powered off, and I can't do anything, (well, except pressing the reset button, that's the sure way). And if I use the "init 6" command, while being logged at CDE, from a terminal, the Graphical Desktop exits, and then, the screen goes off again (just like the computer is powered off), but finally the computer manages to restart.
I'm using the Sun X server, NOT the XFree86 porting kit and I use the entry

:0 Local local_uid@console nobody /usr/openwin/bin/Xsun :0 -dpsfileops
in /usr/dt/config/Xservers file, to start the X server.
Here is the $HOME_DIR/.dt/startlog file:

I don't know if this is a bug or something, and I'm very curious about the cause. I didn't have much time for any other "experiments".
Anyway, I hope this will help developers solve a problem -if it really exists-.

Alt Graph dead on swedish Solaris 10 x86, jdk 1.5.x
Hello!
I posted this on the Solaris JRE forum first but there is not much activity there. Perhaps anyone that reads this forum can assist me.
I'm having a peculiar problem and I'm at loss as of how to fix it.
I have a fresh Solaris 10 x86 installed on an HP nx9420 laptop and it is localized to sv_SE.UTF8. All native X clients work perfectly, accepting keyboard input as expected.
But java clients do not. My swedish keyboard layout is respected and all the 'normal' characters are properly read when typed. But the Alt Graph key seems to be ignored.
Example: To type the character '[' on a swedish keyboard I need to press AltGraph-8.This works in xterm, mozilla and other clients but when done in a java client (smc, javaws or netbeans to name a few) I only get the character '8'. It is as if the JRE doesn't even care if I press Alt Graph or not. The JRE installed is 1.5_06. I've tested other minor versions under 1.5 without improvement.
Please advise me how to solve this. I have not experienced this problem before when running various Linux distributions as well as different Windows versions. I'm very happy that I finally got Solaris to work on my laptop and it would be a bit harsh to have it go down the drain because of this.
Note: The problem is solved in 1.6 beta 2. Unfortunately I need to get 1.5 working. :(
/DrouggeThanks Mike. Problem solved.
Now I run into another error which I think I had in a past installation I have done on a suse machine:
SAPCAR is unable to extract SAP kernel executables from the installationmaster directory even though permissions are right:
MUT-03011 Execution of the command "/tmp/sapinst_exe.25861.1160659612/SAPCAR -x -v -g -i -f /UCKernel/DBINDEP/SAPEXE.SAR, instance.lst" finished with return code 29. Output:
SAPCAR: no archives specified for extracting (error 29). No such file or directory
I have tried calling SAPCAR from the command line and the SAPEXE.SAR is upacked fine.
Tried to shorten the absolute path and the error is the same.

How to Reorganize CSM200 Shared Storage in Solaris 10 x86 Oracle 10gR2
I could use some guidance from those who are more experienced in RAC administration in a Solaris environment with ASM. I have a three-node RAC with Oracle 10gR2 instances on top of Solaris 10 x86 where the shared storage is a Sun CSM200 disk array which looks like a single disk to the rest of the world. I'm not very familiar with the CSM200 Common Array Manager but I do have access to use it.
During initial setup, I followed the Oracle cookbook and defined a storage slice for each of the following: OCR, OCR mirror, three voting disks, and +DATA, for a total of six slices. I brought up the RAC and we've used it for a couple of weeks.
This is a Dev and QA environment, so it changes pretty fast. The new requirement is to add a +FRA and to add a mount point for a file system on the shared storage, so that all three Oracle instances can refer to the same external table(s).
However, I've already used all the available slices in the VTOC on the shared logical drive. I'm not sure how to proceed.
1) Is it necessary to use the CAM to create two logical disks out of the single existing logical disk?
2) If so, how destructive is that? I don't need to keep the contents of the database, but I do not want to reinstall CRS or ASM or the DB instances.
3) Is it possible to combine the OCR and its mirror on the same slice, thus freeing a slice for reuse?
4) Is it possible to combine all three voting disks on the same slice, thus freeing two slices for reuse?

Another question: Under 10.2.0.4, is it possible for the OCR and voting disks to be managed by ASM? I know it would be possible under 11g, but that's not an option as I am trying to match a customer's environment and they aren't going to 11g any time real soon. What you see is what happens when the Java runtime running on Solaris 10 x86 tries to load a library which is compiled for SPARC.
Because of the native parts in SAP GUI for Java, compilations and installers are required for each OS - HW combination.
The supported platforms can be seen in SAP note 954572. For Solaris only SPARC is currently supported.
Because of the effort needed for compiling, testing, support etc. it is required to focus on OS - HW combinations widely used on desktop machines and Solaris 10 on x86 currently does not seem to be one of those.

Hi everyone, I'm trying to compile gtk+ 2.13.7, but Make fails with an error about libcairo. As far as I know, I've successfully compiled all of gtk's dependencies, but for some reason gtk is looking for libcairo in my X11 directory instead of in my

From the Apple TV, I chose netflix from the main menu. I then chose the show Prison Break. Only 22 episodes from Season 1 are displayed. When chosing NetFlix from my Blue Ray player I see all the episodes.
