SG200 high "Packets With Errors"

Hi, I have a SG200-18 switch that's been in production for about 6 months. About a month ago we had a severe ice storm and everything lost power including the switch. Afterwards I started to see very high "Packets With Errors" in the interface statistics in the web gui. When looking at the Ethernet statistics, the errors are mainly "Internal MAC Receive Error" with only a few "Frame Check Sum" errors.
Before the power outtage I was seeing about 0.035% packets with errors on the heaviest loaded interface. After the power outtage I saw 1.60% packets with errors on the same interface. Other busy interfaces saw similar raise in packets with errors. Again these errors were mainly "Internal MAC Receive Error" with only a few "Frame Check Sum" errors.
I contacted Cisco and was told that the firmware could be corrupted and that I should update to the latest firmware version: 1.3.5.58 (I was running 1.3.0.62). I updated to the latest firmware (including updating the boot code). Verified that the md5 check sums listed on the web gui match that of the firmware files that I loaded onto the switch.
It's been a couple days since upgrading the switch firmware and I've noticed that the packets with errors has gone down; now around 0.3% on busiest interface. Should I be concerned by this number of packets with errors? What does "Internal MAC Receive Error" even mean?
Thank you.

Tom,
I've seen a similar issue on SG300 switches.
While I haven't completely eliminatated cabling issues (I can only continuity check the cables which are ducted and perviously terminiated and the continutity check is ok) I have had an increase in "Internal MAC Receive Error" counts following upgrades to 1.3.5.58 and 1.3.7.18 firmware versions.
In my case I have four switches connected in a star topology around a central switch and interconnected via LAG groups- three swtiches are showing error counts on some ports (a mix of LAG and single ports) and one has remained error free.
At least one LAG group is showing "Internal MAC Receive Errors" at one end of the LAG but not the other- this isn't the behaviour I'd expect from a cable fault.
The "Internal MAC Receive Error" counts appear to increase disproportionally when the port or LAG is under load (eg speed testing LAN connections between Ruckus AP and Zonedirector).
Is this type of behaviour consistent with what you have seen?
In your last posted you said:-
"But I've also found upgrading to 1.3.5.58 there is a lot of tail error  in some situations and a factory reset and manual configuration clears  those errors entirely"
Are you able to definie those situations any more? Is factory defaulting the switch and restoring a backup a workable sloution or should it be a completely manual restore (ie re-creating the configuration)?
I can of course try a factory default and manual configurationre- but it will take some time and planning to implement!
Kind Regards,
Andy.

    Hi,
thanks for your reply, but there is no hsrp configured, just an interface vlan. with 2 static routes and the problem was there for more than an hour before we decided to rollback.
Is there a BugId with this problem in Cisco DataBase.

  • System.log fills up with bad packets errors (Multicast packet - CRC error)

    Hello,
I've been trying to Google my problem but found no answers; hopefully someone can help me?
Whenever I'm online, my System.logs fills up (every second, and sometimes, multiple times each second) with the following message :
19/12/07 12:51:01 PM kernel AppleYukon2 - bad packet received. length: 60, packet status bits: Multicast packet, CRC error
19/12/07 12:51:01 PM kernel AppleYukon2 - bad packet received. length: 60, packet status bits: Multicast packet, CRC error
My DSL modem is connect directly into my iMac. It's a Speedstream 5360). I never have any problems connecting to the Internet and the speed I get is fine. When I configured my Network settings, I only added my PPPoE Service name username and âssword - everything else was automatically added (Ethernet configuration).
Is there anything I should change in the Advanced Settings?
The System.log causes me problem because it often causes the application Console to crash when I try to view it.

I should add that this problem didn't exist when I was using Tiger.
Also, when I called Apple Tech Support, I was simply told "just don't play with the Console".

  • Time Machine backups to OS X Server intermittently failing with error 21

I have a Mac Mini running OS X Server, with two USB drives connected and selected within OS X Server as Time Machine backup destinations.  I have an iMac and a Macbook Air, both of which  are using Time Machine to backup themselves up to the Time Machine Service on the server (all are running the latest version of Mavericks).
Intermittently, the iMac backup fails.  The iMac's console log shows:
    Aug 23 13:55:34 Nigels-iMac.local com.apple.backupd[15418]: Failed to eject volume /Volumes/Backups-1 (FSVolumeRefNum: -141; status: -47; dissenting pid: 0)
    Aug 23 13:55:34 Nigels-iMac.local com.apple.backupd[15418]: Waiting 60 seconds and trying again.
    Aug 23 13:56:06 Nigels-iMac.local mds[72]: (Normal) Volume: volume:0x7fa702995000 ********** Bootstrapped Creating a default store:0 SpotLoc:(null) SpotVerLoc:(null) occlude:0 /Volumes/Backups-1
    Aug 23 13:56:45 Nigels-iMac.local com.apple.backupd[15418]: Network destination already mounted at: /Volumes/Backups-1
    Aug 23 13:57:29 Nigels-iMac.local com.apple.backupd[15418]: Quota in effect for '/Volumes/Backups-1': Zero KB
    Aug 23 13:58:16 Nigels-iMac.local com.apple.backupd[15418]: Failed to eject volume /Volumes/Backups-1 (FSVolumeRefNum: -141; status: -47; dissenting pid: 0)
    Aug 23 13:58:16 Nigels-iMac.local com.apple.backupd[15418]: Giving up after 3 retries.
    Aug 23 13:58:16 Nigels-iMac.local com.apple.backupd[15418]: Backup failed with error 21: 21
The Mac Mini console log shows nothing apparently wrong.
Restarting the server (not the iMac) clears the problem and the iMac will then once again backup to the server for some time (e.g. a day).
There are two USB drives, one for each backup sparse bundle and although the two disks have different names in the Finder, OS X Server has named them both Backup (one is shown as 'Backup' and the other as 'Backup-1' in the Time Machine Services Backups tab).
I am wondering whether the failure occurs when coincidentally the iMac and the Macbook both try to back up at the same moment.  Any advice about how to isolate the problem, or a solution would be gratefully received!

    1. This procedure is a diagnostic test, to be carried out on the server. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve the problem. But with the aid of the test results, the solution may take a few minutes, instead of hours or days.
Don't be put off merely by the seeming complexity of these instructions. The process is much less complicated than the description. You do harder tasks with the computer all the time.
    2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. Backup is always a must, and when you're having any kind of trouble with the computer, you may be at higher than usual risk of losing data, whether you follow these instructions or not.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
    3. Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. As I wrote above, it changes nothing. It doesn't send or receive any data on the network. All it does is to generate a human-readable report on the state of the computer. That report goes nowhere unless you choose to share it. If you prefer, you can read it yourself without disclosing the contents to me or anyone else.
You should be wondering whether you can believe me, and whether it's safe to run a program at the behest of a stranger. In general, no, it's not safe and I don't encourage it.
In this case, however, there are a couple of ways for you to decide whether the program is safe without having to trust me. First, you can read it. Unlike an application that you download and click to run, it's transparent, so anyone with the necessary skill can verify what it does.
You may not be able to understand the script yourself. But variations of the script have been posted on this website thousands of times over a period of years. The site is hosted by Apple, which does not allow it to be used to distribute harmful software. Any one of the millions of registered users could have read the script and raised the alarm if it was harmful. Then I would not be here now and you would not be reading this message.
Nevertheless, if you can't satisfy yourself that these instructions are safe, don't follow them. Ask for other options.
    4. Here's a summary of what you need to do, if you choose to proceed:
☞ Copy a line of text in this window to the Clipboard.
☞ Paste into the window of another application.
☞ Wait for the test to run. It usually takes a few minutes.
☞ Paste the results, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page.
The sequence is: copy, paste, wait, paste again. You don't need to copy a second time. Details follow.
    5. You may have started the computer in "safe" mode. Preferably, these steps should be taken in “normal” mode, under the conditions in which the problem is reproduced. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.
    6. If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you can't log in as an administrator, test as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this section doesn’t apply. Don't log in as root.
    7. The script is a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, though you may not see all of it in the browser window, and you can then copy it. If you try to select the line by dragging across the part you can see, you won't get all of it.
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it:

Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
    8. Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste by pressing command-V. The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
    9. If you see an error message in the Terminal window such as "Syntax error" or "Event not found," enter
    exec bash
and press return. Then paste the script again.
    10. If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. In most cases, the difference is not important. If you don't know the password, or if you prefer not to enter it, press the key combination control-C or just press return  three times at the password prompt. Again, the script will still run.
If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator privileges.
    11. The test may take a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, there will be nothing in the Terminal window and no indication of progress. Wait for the line
    [Process completed]
to appear. If you don't see it within half an hour or so, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, close the Terminal window and report what happened. No harm will be done.
    12. When the test is complete, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
At the top of the results, there will be a line that begins with the words "Start time." If you don't see that, but instead see a mass of gibberish, you didn't wait for the "Process completed" message to appear in the Terminal window. Please wait for it and try again.
If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
    13. When you post the results, you might see an error message on the web page: "You have included content in your post that is not permitted," or "You are not authorized to post." That's a bug in the forum software. Please post the test results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.
    14. This is a public forum, and others may give you advice based on the results of the test. They speak only for themselves, and I don't necessarily agree with them.

  • High Packet Loss, High Ping and Slow Connection Ov...

    Hi There,
I have been a customer with the BT unlimited broadband package for a little under two years and up until recently have had no real issues with the service. This was until around 3/4 weeks ago I noticed that the internet was very slow and certain online games or applications like Netflix would lose all of its quality or stop completely. At first I thought nothing of it and simply reset my BT Home hub router, and sure enough everything was back to normal. However after around 2-3 hours of moderate use (gaming online or watching Netflix) the problem surfaced again.
Now I am lucky if I can get the entire way through a 40 minute TV episode before the quality drops and/or the service requires buffering. I have already contacted BT via the helpline and the service lady ran through the obligatory steps (turn off, wait 5 minutes, reset the home hub etc.) but she failed to understand that although rebooting the home hub does alleviate the problem initially, the symptoms of a slow connection, high packet loss and high ping always return within an hour.
Four the last couple of weeks I have been trying to investigate the problem myself and I have done the following things:
Tested the line using the master socket (no difference)
Opened the ports on my firewall within the home hub (no difference)
Directly wired in the computer instead of relying on the wifi (no difference)
Tested for interference from neighbours wifi using inSSIDider office (it wasn’t, operating on different channels)
Switched every device that requires internet off apart from the PC (no difference)
So with all that in mind I am fairly confident that it is nothing within my house that has caused a significant reduction in internet quality.
Now I have tried my best to display the problem I am having by recording the connection quality for the last 24 hours. The table below represents the condition and quality of the connection after leaving it a period of time without resetting:
    ADSL Line Status
    Connection Information
    Line state:
    Connected
    Connection time:
    0 days, 21:52:14
    Downstream:

    Output power (Down/Up):

    HEC Events (Down/Up):

    Error Seconds (Local/Remote):
    189 / 36430
And here is a result of the ping and packet loss during this time:
Now I immediately reset the home hub after running that test and ran the test again. These are the results I a achieved within 2 minutes of internet connectivity:

Even within the time it has taken to compose this page my internet quality has nose-dived from the previous result above to the following:

What is causing this poor quality in connection and what can be done to rectify the problem?
Thank you for your response in advanced.
    Regards,
    Richard.

Thank you for you quick reply, I have just moved my hub to the master socket again and re-run the test and I seem to be getting the same results.

I have also checked if the bell wire was attached and it is not. My socket is of the new type with the inclusion of an inductor on the faceplate. My ADSL filters and modem cable already have the middle connecting pins removed so I don’t think it is a wiring problem, at least in my apartment anyway. I have also searched for problems with the exchange and they are showing green for my area. (Liverpool Central)
I have just rang the quiet line and I do not appear to have any noise on the line. However, all I have is a cordless phone and I know that is not ideal for determining noise due to the radio frequency interfering with the phone speaker.
Again thank you for you time on this issue.

    Richard

  • Can not install this update for kb2667402 windows 7 professional. I tried various fix-it but it did not help Update KB2667402 failed with error 80004005

I'm not sure where to turn now and am soooooooooo frustrated! I have been trying to get security update KB2667402 with error code 80004005 to install for a couple months without any success.
So, I finally turned to microsoft tech support... Case# 1186572463
On Fri. Oct. 26 I was on the phone with a microsoft tech for over 3 hours. The tech that took remote access of my computer said she did not know how to fix my problem and that my case would have to be escalated to a higher level and that I would
receive a call back on Mon. Oct. 29th. However, I never got a return call.
Yesterday - Tues. Oct. 30th I called in again and was on the phone for 4.5 hrs with a microsoft tech and he also took remote access of my computer but was not able to fix the problem. I asked to speak to someone at a higher tech level and was told to call
    back into the microsoft helpline.
The 3rd call - Although I had been told during the prior 2 calls that I was still covered under my warrenty I was now told that I needed to pay for the support call. It took a while to get that straighteded out and to give all my information again to
the call center but I finally worked with a 3rd tech for over 2 hrs. but had to terminate the call for a conference call I had with a client. The person I worked with said he would call me back between 7-8pmEST so he could continue helping me but I never
    got a return call.
I have already invested over 10 hrs in the last few days regarding this issue and fear that if I call back in I will once again start over completely with no success which is why I am reaching out here. Is there anyone that has the knowledge of how to fix
    the problem?

I've been having the same problem and today did some searching and found something that worked.  Check that the download hasn't already been installed - look in the Installed Updates listing for an entry.  If it exists there, uninstall it, and
then force a Check For Updates and retry the install. This worked for me and I hope it helps.
    Good day, Chuck.

  • STMS: Transport control program tp ended with error code 0232

    Dear ERP Gurus,
I just encountered problem with STMS in my PRD system. The import is just stuck up on "tp connecting to database". It won't continue unitl the system gives me this error message:
Transport control program tp ended with error code 0232
    Errors: connect failed
    The tp System log says:
ERROR: Connect to PRD failed (20090227135454, probably wrong environment)
I have verified that the suggestion in SAP Note 165708 has already been implemented in our DEV, QAS, and PRD instances.
Any idea why I am having this problem? Imports were running fine yesterday. Please help.
Your prompt response is highly appreciated.
    Thanks a lot.
    Best Regards,
    Albert

    Hi Albert,
First check import monitor and delete all requests from queue, which are still getting imported.
And go to /usr/sap/trans/tmp and mv all those tmp files to other location.
Then kill all OS jobs which are getting execute with tp.
Check all jobs are runnig fine, related to transportation. If not reschedule the same.
    Then start importing.
Before doing this just check whether your stms related RFCs are working fine.
I think One of your RFC is getting struck. just try to change ip or hostname accordingly and try.

  • Failed to Install The New Preview Build. Installation Failure: Windows failed to install the following update with error 0x80246007: FBL_AWESOME1501 9926 Professional.

    Hello,
I'm having issues upgrading my Windows 10 Technical Preview installation build 9879 to a newer build that's become available late January 23rd.
I am installing the new upgrade in a Hyper-V virtual machine and get the following error:
Failed to install the new preview build, please try again later. 0x80246007
    What could be the problem?
Previously I've had messages that Windows cannot be upgraded on a computer with less than 2 Gbyte of RAM. That's a Hyper-V VM with dynamic memory and I was highly surprised to see this error; never had this before. Had to set 2048 Mbytes as a minimum memory
for this VM. Now that I have this 80246007 error code.
When looking up System log, the following error messages are listed multiple times:
Installation Failure: Windows failed to install the following update with error 0x80246007: FBL_AWESOME1501 9926 Professional.
The errors are returned for the Event ID 20 by WindowsUpdateClient
in task category Windows Update Agent..
    I reviewed the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsSelfHost\Applicability
registry key as suggested in Windows

Note, when attempting to install the downloaded update from a native boot, installation starts with no errors.
However, since setup is not supported for a natively booted VHD files, it does not proceed further showing a message that installation on virtual drives is not supported.
Looks like Setup is having problems installing in a Hyper-V virtual machine.
Possibly, some ESD files got corrupted during downloading? Is it possible to remove them and re-download missing files? (I, however, noticed that Windows seems to re-download upgrade files after you restart 9879 and attempt to check for a new build.
Any clue why installing under VM causes 9926 to fail?
    Thank you in advance.
Well this is the world we live in And these are the hands we're given...

    Hi,
According to the error message, this problem seems like update package installation failed during system upgrade.
You can try to remove ESD file which locate at boot of C drive and upgrade the system again for test.
On the other hand, make sure the system 9879 installed all Windows pushed updates before system upgrade.

  • ITunes - When launched comes up with error message - User at wits end

Hi - When launched ITunes comes up with error message below
"iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience" - and then wants to send an error report off to Microsoft
I have so far been through the bulletins and - deleted high and low filters using regedit , disabled virtual drives (which bought me CD drive back to life hurrah), reinstalled several times both Quick Time and I Tunes (seperately and together) including using Windows Install Clean up and the methodical Uninstalling and full deletion of Files - HELP - any ideas !! - forgot also disabled Norton through these steps

Try this, it took me 5 days but I eventually got it to work.
    1. Scanned my hard drive for viruses. 1 was found & fixed, Spybot search and destroy, this is a freebee of the internet. Reboot PC
    2. Removed all software having to do with quick
player & itunes - including ipod updates. Reboot PC
    3. Downloaded Quick player via the stand alone, you can get this from http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/standalone.html. Reboot PC
    4. Dowloaded Itunes from the itunes support site.
Then when you are asked to update say no. Reboot PC
    This should then work.

  • RME 3.2 Inventory Collection Failure with error

    Hi,
Inventory collection fails with error is "Timed out. Make sure that ICServer is running”. But the ICServer process is running. I enabled debug on could see the following in the IC_Server.log which I'm not sure if it indicates any issues.
I can find the devices in DCR and the devices are classified as Normal in RME.
Series of following message for all the devices
    DEBUG,[Thread-26],com.cisco.nm.rmeng.inventory.ics.core.Request,115,Removing device 181from request 1255347128972
    DEBUG,[Thread-26],com.cisco.nm.rmeng.inventory.ics.core.PriorityQueue,163,Removing, 175
    DEBUG,[Thread-26],com.cisco.nm.rmeng.inventory.ics.core.PriorityQueue,171,got device, 175
    DEBUG,[Thread-26],com.cisco.nm.rmeng.inventory.ics.core.Device,51,Removing request 1255347128972 for device 175
DEBUG,[Thread-26],com.cisco.nm.rmeng.inventory.ics.core.PriorityQueue,177,Removed2 dev, 175from Priority of the ENUM is : 0
    then,
    DEBUG,[Thread-25],com.cisco.nm.rmeng.inventory.ics.core.PriorityQueue,89,Adding Device :175
    DEBUG,[Thread-25],com.cisco.nm.rmeng.inventory.ics.core.Device,46,Adding request 1255347128973 for device 175
DEBUG,[Thread-25],com.cisco.nm.rmeng.inventory.ics.core.PriorityQueue,142,Found dup device in queue: 175
    DEBUG,[Thread-25],com.cisco.nm.rmeng.inventory.ics.core.Request,75,Adding device 175 to request 1255347128973
    and then the below messages
DEBUG,[Timer-0],com.cisco.nm.rmeng.inventory.ics.threadpool.ThreadPool,69, Timer Tasks Run method is called.
DEBUG,[Timer-0],com.cisco.nm.rmeng.inventory.ics.threadpool.ThreadPool,69, Timer Tasks Run method is called.
DEBUG,[Timer-0],com.cisco.nm.rmeng.inventory.ics.threadpool.ThreadPool,69, Timer Tasks Run method is called
I highly appreciate any help on this. Thanks

The ICServer process could have locked up which means a full thread dump will be required to see why this is happening. Open a TAC service request, and they can walk you through getting this.

  • Please help !!! After installing 3.1.1 restore failing with error code 2002

    Hi All,
I bought my ipod touch 8GB and received on 24th Sep 2009. On the same day at around 18:30, I downloaded itunes in my laptop (IBM ThinkPad - Win XP OS).
Everything was fine, I did sync my ipod with itunes. After an hour or so, I got a popup in my itunes to download a latest software update which was OS 3.1.1, I guess. I downloaded that and it took almost 80 minutes. Then I connected my ipod to the laptop, itunes throwed an alert saying
"itunes has detected an ipod in recovery mode. You must restore this ipod before it can be used with iTunes."
But restore is failing with restore error code 2002. I tried 44 times with all the guidelines mentioned in Apple support site. Restarted ipod, laptop, complete uninstall of itunes and every software, reinstalled itunes and everything, switch between different USB ports and tried everything but nothing worked. The ipod always shows the connect to itunes symbol and nothing else. Alas!! I am writing this. It is seriously very discouraging for the apple product users. I had high hopes with apple’s products. I could not use my new ipod even for an hour.
Please help. The below log is being created after every failure.
I know the below log can help the software guys in finding the issue

First try to find out the reason for the load failure. Once you fix this, do a manual run of the infopackage and when successful you can continue with the rest of process chain.
Sometimes, it doesn't help to just set a request to green status in order to run the process chain from that step on to the end.
You need to set the failed request/step to green in the database as well as you need to raise the event that will force the process chain to run to the end from the next request/step on.
Therefore you need to open the messages of a failed step by right clicking on it and selecting 'display messages'.
In the opened popup click on the tab 'Chain'.
In a parallel session goto transaction se16 for table rspcprocesslog and display the entries with the following selections:
    1. copy the variant from the popup to the variante of table rspcprocesslog
    2. copy the instance from the popup to the instance of table rspcprocesslog
    3. copy the start date from the popup to the batchdate of table rspcprocesslog
Press F8 to display the entries of table rspcprocesslog.
Now open another session and goto transaction se37. Enter RSPC_PROCESS_FINISH as the name of the function module and run the fm in test mode.
Now copy the entries of table rspcprocesslog to the input parameters of the function module like described as follows:
    1. rspcprocesslog-log_id -> i_logid
    2. rspcprocesslog-type -> i_type
    3. rspcprocesslog-variante -> i_variant
    4. rspcprocesslog-instance -> i_instance
    5. enter 'G' for parameter i_state (sets the status to green).
Now press F8 to run the fm.
Now the actual process will be set to green and the following process in the chain will be started and the chain can run to the end.
