SG200 how to configure Wake on LAN across subnets

How can I configure  to support WOL on a SG200 (8 Ports) to support Wake On Lan (Magic Packets) from a different IP Subnet or other SG200 Switch. It seems not to support Directed-Broadcasts.

I checked out the link and tested the changes. Unfortunately, the WOL still won't work. In the link you attached, it states that you cannot turn on a computer that is off. Does that mean one that is off such as unplugged or in shutdown? Also, one of the steps to configure the firewall access rules says to block all outbound connections for all services. That doesn't make any sense to me, but I might be wrong. I also noticed that the link was for another router. I don't know if that makes a difference. I also read somewhere in the forums that someone else is having a similar problem, saying that Port Forwarding still isn't working in the latest firmware. This whole problem is strange because it used to work all the time on my old router with Port Forwarding, but on this one it won't work at all.

  • How to configure Wake On LAN to work through the Internet?

I'm using an iOS app to wake my desktop computer. It works perfectly fine when I'm within my WiFi range. However, when I'm out of my Linksys E3000 access point, it no longer works over the Internet. So, if anyone can point me to documentation that have step by step instruction on how to configure this through the Linksys E3000 access point, I'll be grateful.

    Hi ohgosh,
I believe your computer is already configured and has all the requirements for Wake on Lan since it works locally. To do it remotely you need to open the regular port numbers used for WOL like UDP ports 9 and 32767. Your desktop IP address must be set to static because that's what you need to enter on the port forwarding page of your router. You may use this link below for instructions on how to do port forwarding on your router.

Another option is to set up DynDNS on your router. With this, you need to subscribe to DynDNS.com. I found some online links that could help you enable WOL remotely:

  • Wake on LAN across subnets

Is there a way to get Zenwork's wake-on-lan feature to work across subnets?
I am not a LAN administrator so pardon any ignorance you see in my
    question.
Zenwork's wake-on-lan function won't work on our LAN because our switches
are set to not allow forwarding of subnet-oriented broadcasts, which is a
generic requirment for zenworks wake-on-lan function to work. Our security
folks say enabling this on the switches is not an option because it
introduce a security vulnerbility. I find it strange that there wouldn't
be a solution for this by Novell/Zenworks considering that multiple
subnets, switches, and security considerations are usually a component of
all networks which zenworks is specifically targeted for in the first
    place.
    Thanks

it is the only way though.. that's how any WOL software works.. they can
limit the packets comming from either your c1 wks or the zenworks server
though.. otherwise you would require one server per subnet

Exactly, and this is the best choice. Make "Replication Servers" in each subnet, is very simple. U can use a Windows machine or SuSE, both without installing zenworks. Only registering them as servers satellites. You must install the agent (logically, hehe).

  • How to enable Wake On Lan on MSi P45 Neo2?

    Hi,
I just bought a P45 Neo2, and I think I have WOL on this machine, as the Realtek chipset 8111C does support the feature. However, I'm not sure how to
    - enable
    - use
the function. Can you help me?
Under Device Manager, I go to the Realtek network adapter --> Properties --> Power Management --> Allow this device to bring the computer out of standby.
Now, it is enabled. How should I use it? I would be very thankful :-).

Please have a look here first for basic introduction to Wake on LAN and "Magic Packets":

  • How to Enable Wake On Lan over the Internet??

Hi, I am using RV220W with the latest firmware, I want to make "Wake on LAN" work for my NAS, I found the following description on Internet:
"If you wish to use Wake On Lan over the internet you will need to set up your destination firewall/router to allow "Subnet Directed Broadcasts". Most routers and firewalls disable this option by default.
You will then need to allow traffic through on your firewall/router on a specific port. The choice of ports is up to you."
So how can I enable "Subnet Directed Broadcasts" on RV220W??
    Thanks.
    Raymond

    Hi Jasbryan,
If RV220W doesn't forward UDP to a broadcast address, could you ( i.e. Cisco) provide a tools for sending WOL Magic Packet to the LAN on Router Device Manager page?
I see many routers also provide this tools from their manager page.
    Thanks.

  • How to disable wake on Lan on 865PE LS

Both led on the lan is on all the time, even when computer is turned off, i disabled wake on PME setting in the bios, and i also disabled all the wake on setting in the network card properties in XP, but led's are still on all the time, is there a another way to disable wake on lan ??

I have three other computers connected to the same router, none of them have lan led on when turned off, and i think there is no reason for the leds to be on if you don't use the wake on lan function
in the power management, "allow this device to turn on the computer" is unchecked, i can't think of any other settings, this never happen before with my other lan card, i mean its not a big deal to have the leds on, but its nice to know how to turn them off to save some power.
    any thoughts??

  • How to enable wake on lan on Thinkpad Twist?

I have a Thinkpad Twist purchased because of the presence of the ethernet card.
Unfortunately I can not turn wake on lan.
I did several searches and several attempts without success.
Someone managed to enable wake on lan?
    Thank you.

    Hey there Cello67,
To enable Wake On Lan on a Thinkpad twist:
    1) You will first need to power down your laptop completely.
    2) Then turn it on, as soon as you turn it on start hitting the enter key to interrupt start up. This will take you to a start up menu.
    3) From here you will need to enter your BIOS.
    4) Move right over to the Config, then press enter on the Network Selection
    5) The first option you should have is Wake On Lan. You can change this from disabled to either AC Only or AC and Battery.
After you have done this save your settings, and resume startup. Once the computer has finished booting go to your desktop, and pull out your charm bar by pressing Win Key + C or with a swipe from the right side of your screen in. From here you will:
    1) Enter the Control Panel
    2) Device Manager - > Your Ethernet Card/Adapter
    3) Click the Power Management Tab
    4) Select "Allow this device to wake the computer"
    Hope this helps Cello67!

  • Wake on LAN across Layer 3

When setting up WOL across a Layer 3 boundary you have to enter an ' ip helper ' address on the WOL server L3 vlan for each subnet you want to ' wake '.
What if you have 200+ subnets , I'm fairly sure the practical limit for ' ip helper ' addresses is 16 ?

I wonder where the original poster got the idea that the practical limit for ip helper-address was 16? I agree that there is some additional overhead on the router for each helper-address that you add to the configuration. But a router should be able to process a lot more than 16 helper-addresses.
200+ would be a lot of helper-addresses and depending on what kind of router (how much CPU does it have) and what other features are configured doing 200+ might be a stretch. But most routers should be able to do lots more than 16.

  • Wake on LAN configuration on 4507R switch

Trying to configure Wake on LAN on a 4507R switch.  I thought I would just get it working with devices directly attached to this switch before trying to expand the configuration to the rest of the network.
    Followed this document:
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/switches/ps5023/products_configuration_example09186a008084b55c.shtml
Between this and other web articles I’ve read, it seems fairly simple to configure.  However, I haven’t gotten it to work yet.  I can’t identify the correct udp socket(s) to try, even when using the same Solarwinds Wake On LAN software mentioned in the article.  Am also using Wyse Device Manager to attempt to wake thin clients.
I’ve tried to use debug ip udp, but never see any entries listed for the transmission(s) by the host machine to the intended subnets(s).
Also tried using Wireshark, but I still don’t see the host transmissions from any device that I’ve tried sending the WOL packets from.
Does anyone know the socket(s) used by either of those two pieces of software for WOL packets?
    TIA
    Rick

    hi benny_ru,
    Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!
This may not be possible. Since this is not supported in BIOS
When the computer is in Hibernate and/or in shutdown state it need to cross the BIOS to wake up the computer or turn it on.
Sleep will be ok since the LAN card supports it and it is the OS that wakes the system up and not the BIOS.

  • MEGA865 : Wake on Lan?

    Hye all !
In theMEGA865 manual I see page 1-5 : LAN wake up fonction!
But In the bios I don't find any Wake-on-lan!
I find Wake-up from PCI card but not wake up by the onboard LAN device?
So I am completly silly   or this fonction is not  possible?

I prefer to use GUI like this for test : http://www.depicus.com/wake-on-lan/wake-on-lan-gui.asp
and the same in command line for automatization : http://www.depicus.com/wake-on-lan/wake-on-lan-cmd.asp
But the problem isn't "how to use wake on lan" but "how activate the integrate LAN hardware to enable the wake on lan fonction"???
    thanks

  • Dv6-7014nr Does it support Wake-on-LAN, WoWLAN, or Wake on USB.?

I am not finding Bios settings for any of these features. Inn fact the BIOS looks prettypaltry.  Am I missing a hidden menu or something or is the BIOS really that bad feature-wise?  I found the USB "allow this device to start the computer" setting in the USB device powermanagement settings but I can't select it.  Is there a way to enable that setting?

wake-on-lan must be enabled already and no option for customers to configure in BIOS because these are consumer units and not many users use such options on this platform.
I can see that network driver in device manager gives you option to configure Wake-on-Lan under device propertties>Advanced tab. several options such as wake-on-lan magic packet - Shutdown wake-on-lan etc...
yes the options may be limited to driver used. if its factory image or drivers are used from hp.com; that should give you options.

  • Unable to wake emacs across subnets

We have several emac labs w/ ard active on them, however, we are unable to wake them up from our central office location. If the client is available we can observe, control and just about anything else we need to do to them. Our biggest issue is that we can't wake them up across subnets. We also have a mini running server 10.4.7 as a task server out there...any ideas

First, make sure that "wake on network administrator access" is active in the Energy Saver -> Options on your clients.
If it is, try WakeOnLan or WakeOnMac and see if either of those work. If those don't work either, then the routers on your network are probably not correctly passing the necessary packet.
    Hope this helps.
