Sga max size is different
We use Oracle 11gr2 on win2008R2.
Our member set sga max size by
alter system set sga_max_size scope=spfile; max size to 6GB.
And we restared that OS and DB instance , then
show parameters sga_max_size was 7.6GB
Why is that ?
If MEMORY_TARGET is set to a non-zero value:
If SGA_TARGET and PGA_AGGREGATE_TARGET are set, they will be considered the minimum values for the sizes of SGA and the PGA respectively. MEMORY_TARGET values can range from SGA_TARGET + PGA_AGGREGATE_TARGET to MEMORY_MAX_TARGET.
Now check if your memory_target is set.

What's the sga max size for a 32bit windows server?
Hi,
I have a 32bit Windows Server with 16G of RAM... What is the SGA max size that I can setup?Depending on your version of Windows and your version of Oracle there are methods to increase the usuable memory available to Oracle including the MS \3GB and \PAE switches and the AWE memory extention feature.
Oracle has notes on the subject:

Hi,
I have Fujitsu mid range Server with 16gb RAM and 64 bit Windows Server 2003,10g R2 db installed, current i have SGA size 4gb..
What is SGA max size limit????
One of my report runs in 24 seconds...*will this issue b solved increasing the SGA size upto 10,12 gb?*Yes,
You can also go for a 10046 event tracing...

ACCEPT serial PROMPT 'Enter SERIAL#: '
ACCEPT action PROMPT 'Enter TRUE or FALSE: '
EXEC sys.DBMS_SYSTEM.SET_SQL_TRACE_IN_SESSION(&sid,&serial,&action);
prompt Trace &action for &sid,&serial
exec DBMS_SYSTEM.SET_EV(10,20,10046,12,”);
Then you can check your dump file and see whcih events are higher......

Set SGA maximum size larget than it's component
Dear all,
I want to activate the DISM in Oracle 10g on Solaris container, therefore I need to set the parameter sga_max_size larger than it's component.
From my understanding, below are the sga components parameter and the current value on my system::
SHARED_POOL_SIZE (560M)
LARGE_POOL_SIZE (0)
JAVA_POOL_SIZE (32M)
DB_CACHE_SIZE (560M)
STREAMS_POOL_SIZE (0)
The thing is, my sga max size parameter (1168M) is already larger than above parameters.
Is there another sga component I've missed ? Plz advice. Thanks.Hi,
SGA: The size is determined indirectly from the size of the contained memory areas.
1) Buffer pool: DB_BLOCK_BUFFERS (unit: blocks) or DB_CACHE_SIZE when you use the dynamic SGA
2) Shared pool: SHARED_POOL_SIZE
3) Java pool: JAVA_POOL_SIZE
4) Large pool: LARGE_POOL_SIZE
5) Streams pool (Oracle 10g or later): STREAMS_POOL_SIZE
6) Redo buffer: LOG_BUFFER
In addition, in the context of the dynamic SGA , you can define parameter
SGA_MAX_SIZE, which sets an upper limit for the total size of the SGA. In
general, you can only increase the size of parameters, such as DB_CACHE_SIZE
or SHARED_POOL_SIZE, up to the size defined by SGA_MAX_SIZE.
Thanks

I'm having big headaches with locks. I understand my Database is a OLTP but never configured it like that. I missed the opportunity at the time of creation. What would be a goos start un numbers for a SGA settings?
Please help...Kevin Tyson wrote:
I don't know why people are talking about RAID and other hardware issues when the question was about the SGA. To determine whether your SGA is the right size, you need to calculate the buffer cache hit ratio, the library cache hit ratio, and other SGA stats. Your library cache hit ratio should be over 90 percent unless your developers didn't use bind variables. Your buffer cache hit ratio depends on your application, but if it's below 80 percent I would look at the top ten offending SQL statements by disk reads, buffer hits, and CPU. That's just a start. I have scripts at home for doing these things in Oracle9i. I might respond with them this weekend.
Kevin TysonThis is so completely, utterly wrong, I can't even begin to describe why. See [the faq|http://www.orafaq.com/wiki/Improving_Buffer_Cache_Hit_Ratio]. It was wrong even in the days when tfsmstat.sql was written, around 1993.
The title of the thread is about SGA, but the question is about locks. The question is making a questionable assumption that the SGA size has something to do with locks.
Original Poster: Please post the locking evidence that has you thinking whatever it is you are thinking. It is conceivable that having a large SGA may cause latching issues in some odd circumstances, but really, there are several methodologies that can lead quite directly to the actual problem. Hit ratio tuning is not one of them. Here is one way. It may help us help you if run a statspack for 15 minutes during a bad time and post the results.
Most performance issues are due to code, the first thing you need to do is figure out if you have a code problem or a system tuning problem. Raid 0 is not a good sign. Nothing wrong with asking about a recommended SGA, but as you can see, it doesn't get you far if no one sees an obvious wrong. -
I have a few hundred duplicates in my iPhoto library, but the file sizes are different. So one is 1.3mb and one is 567kb. I want to delete the smaller ones, but short of comparing each duplicate, is there a way to do this? I've been looking at Duplicate Annhilator but I don't think it can do it.
Thanks!I just ran a test with iPhoto Library Manager, Duplicate Annihilator, iPhoto Duplicate Cleaner, Duplifinder and Photodedupo. I imported a folder of 5 photos into a test library 3 times, allowing iPhoto to import duplicates. I then ran the 5 photos thru resizer to reduce their jpeg compression but all other aspects of the file the same.
None of the duplicate removal apps found set that was reduced in the file resizer. That's probably due to the fact that the file creation date was being used as a criteria and the resized photo would have a different file creation date even though the Image Capture date was the same.
They all found the 3 regular duplicates and some of them would mark two and leave the 3rd unmarked. iPhoto Duplicate Cleaner can sort the found duplicates by file size but if the file was edited to get the reduced file size it might not be found as it would have a different file creation/modification date.
iPhoto Library Manage was able to find all duplicates and mark them as such if the file names were the same the the filename option was selected. Otherwise it also missed the modified, resized version. It allowed one to select the one photo to save before going to work on the library.
So if a photo has been reduced in image quality or pixel size it will not be considered a duplicate.

What is the max size of HDD I can use in my dc7600 CMT
I am using an HP dc7600 CMT which is working fine after upgrading to a Samsung 128GB SSD, Intel Pentium D 3.4 GHz, 4GB RAM, and an AMD Radeon HD 6450. I am running Win 8.1 Pro x64, with the most recent upgrade, and have absolutely no problems. I now want to add a second internal HDD, and wonder what is the max size I can go to. Can I go to 2TB, or am I limited to a lower figure? 1TB? 500GB? 250GB?
Will be glad for some help here, especially if it has been actually tried in practice.
Thanks in advance.
Best regards
This question was solved.
View Solution.You're very welcome.
Yes, they are very nice machines.
What a jump in performance when I swapped out the Pentium 4 620 mine had, for the PD 945, and tossed in 4 GB of memory.
That box will also run the Radeon HD 6570 with no problem too, which is what I put in mine.
The downside of that model is that there are no settings for ahci or raid.
I own or have owned every CMT since the d510 with the exception of the dc7900.
My main PC is now the 8200 Elite CMT which I installed W8.1 on.
It has an i7-2600 processor and 32 GB of memory, 1 TB SATA III hard drive.
I threw in a Radeon HD 6670 in that one.

Data size bigger than max size for this type - DB Control
All,
We are using a Java Control to fetch and store data
- it fetches data from a webservice through a webservice control
- it stores data in to database using a database control (stores the data as BLOB)
Here currently we facing an error - weblogic.jws.control.ControlException: ControlException on control databaseManager[Data size bigger than max size for this type: 4516]
The data is definitely not overshooting the max capacity of BLOB which is 4 GB. Initially this process was overshooting the transaction time-out limit of 300 sec but currently this is well within the transaction time-out limit and error happens soon after the webservice returns the data.
a. Are there any known issues with using BLOB's with database controls ?
b. what are the options - if we face this error ?

Hi Sudeep. The problem is that WLW is trying to set the datum as a byte array
and the oracle driver won't take a byte array that big. Please check whether
WebLogic Workshop has any explicit instructions for BLOB data. Otherwise, do
contact official BEA support for your WebLogic WorkShop issue.

Data size bigger than max size for this type
First, I'd like to thank you for release 1.2.1, it works like
a charm! Keep up the good work. Here are my questions:
1. When parsing a stored procedure, I get the message "Data
size bigger than max size for this type". Can you tell me what
causes this?
2. Is there any list of all the error messages that can be
given by Migration Workbench?
Thank You,
Shane Brubaker
nullShane,
With respect to your questions :
1. Could you possibly send [email protected] (that is
our helpdesk, a direct line into development) a little more
information about what you were doing. Also, if you could
send us the stored procedure in question (no data required)
then we could try to reproduce the error in-house and better
evaluate what is going on.
2. The majority of errors ORA-**** are actually generic
Oracle errors and can be found in the Server documentation.
As for our specific errors most parser messages can be
found in the appendix "Parser Reference" from the help system.
Regards,
Marie

Problem in Rolling to new a log file only when it exceeds max size (Log4net library)
Hello,
I am using log4net library to create log files.
My requirement is roll to a new log file with name appended with timestamp only when file size exceeds max size (file name ex: log_2014_12_11_12:34:45 etc).
My config is as follow
<appender name="LogFileAppender"
type="log4net.Appender.RollingFileAppender" >
<param name="File" value="logging\log.txt" />
<param name="AppendToFile" value="true" />
<rollingStyle value="Size" />
<maxSizeRollBackups value="2" />
<maximumFileSize value="2MB" />
<staticLogFileName value="true" />
<lockingModel type="log4net.Appender.FileAppender+MinimalLock" />
<layout type="log4net.Layout.PatternLayout">
<param name="ConversionPattern"
value="%-5p%d{yyyy-MM-dd hh:mm:ss} – %m%n" />
<conversionPattern
value="%newline%newline%date %newline%logger
[%property{NDC}] %newline>> %message%newline" />
</layout>
</appender>
Issue is date time is not appending to file name.
But if i set "Rolling style" as "Date or composite", file name gets appended with timestamp, but new file gets created before reaching max file size.(Because file gets created whenever date time changes, which i dont want) .
Please help me in solving this issue?
ThanksHello,
I'd ask the logfornet people: http://logging.apache.org/log4net/
Or search on codeproject - there may be some tutorials that would help you.

Change max. size of a page process
Hi,
i have a problem with creating a page process. I try to create a page process with a size more than the max. size 30 KB. Is it possible to change this value to a higher mark?
thanks for help"user508335",
1) There is no way around this. That's a limitation imposed by modplsql.
2) Justin's recommendation is sound. There are many benefits behind implementing this as a PL/SQL package. My rule of thumb is usually, if I have more than 2x the size of the textarea to edit the process, I immediately consider a PL/SQL package.

Why can't Max Size of Post Data be increased?
We need to do a CFFILE upload of 1 – 3 GB videos and are having troubles.
(I know this is crazy, but FTP, network mapped drives, etc. aren’t going to leave an audit trail like an HTML form will for when people have to upload/update/delete bus incident videos.)
I can't increase the Max size of post data to even 2048MB without people getting "500" errors who are trying to upload small gifs or pdfs. If I move it above 2047MB, no one can upload anything.
Our setup:
CF Enterprise 8.0.1 with Hot Fix 2
2 - Win Servers 2003 R2 Enterprise x64 using replication, load balancing, and MS virtual machine.
CF is clustered so the Java class paths begin with
C:/JRun4/servers/HSWSD0C1O/cfusion.ear/cfusion.war/WEB-INF/...
CF Admin settings:
Max size of post data = 2047MB
Request throttle threshold = 4MB
Request Throttle Memory = 3072MB
Setting of 10 simultaneous requests.
Restarted CF services after Hotfix 2 install.
On the Application.cfm page I put
applicationtimeout="#CreateTimeSpan(0,4,0,0)#"
Basic code for uploading:
<!--- upload file and get results --->
<cffile action="upload"
filefield="file"
destination="#fileDirectory#"
nameconflict="error"
result="uploadResult">
This code works for small files IF I don't raise the max size of post data above 2047MB, which means we'll never get those videos up.
I've been fighting with this for weeks. Any ideas?
Thanks!First thought is that Web Servers can impose their own upload throttles. You should check the documentation of your web server as well.
Secondly
I know this is crazy, but FTP, network mapped drives, etc. aren’t going
to leave an audit trail like an HTML form will for when people have to
upload/update/delete bus incident videos
What wouldn't FTP leave an audit trail? FTP communication can leave just as much, if not more, of an audit trail as HTTP communications.
Network mapped drives, I'm not so sure about, but I imagine there are ways to audit these as well. But then if you can use network mapped drives, you must be working with a well defined set of users all of which belong to a well defined network domain.
P.S. Also make sure that the max post size limits fit inside the overall limits of jvm memory. Trying to upload a file larger then the memory it can fit in sounds like a likely source of problems. -
From 1 DB:Data size bigger than max size for this type

I have pasted the code below. I am using "String" to hold the message (strQueueMessage). That should be the problem
Pls let me know How should I overcome this problem.
public void dbWriteLog(String strQueueMessage,
ExtractionEngineDetails objExtractionEngineDetails,
QueryBuilder objQueryBuilder) throws DBException
objPrepStatement.setString(1,strQueueMessage);
objPrepStatement.setDate(2,new Date(new java.util.Date().
getTime()));
objPrepStatement.setString(3, ExtractionUtils.getProperty(
ExtractionUtils.EXT_FAIL_TYPE2));
objPrepStatement.executeUpdate();
objPrepStatement.close();
stmt = conn.createStatement();

Max Size for a message thru SAP PI 7.0 SPS13
Hi,
I have a problem with a very large message. The scenario is a JDBC -> SAP PI -> ABAP Proxy. I'm getting this error:
ErrorTransmitting the message to endpoint http://<server>:8000/sap/xi/engine?type=entry
using connection JDBC_http://sap.com/xi/XI/System failed, due to:
com.sap.aii.af.ra.ms.api.RecoverableException: java.io.IOException: Error writing to server.
We try to solves it changing the EO_MSG_SIZE_LIMIT parameter in SXMB_ADM but it doesn't help us at all.
How can we set the max size for a message that going thru SAP PI.
We have SAP PI 7.0 SPS 13.HI Luis
Whats the message size and whats the value you have given in EO_MSG_SIZE_LIMIT. After saving this parameter did you verified at RWB ->RWB->Component Monitoring->Integration Engine->
Settings->Tuning
Add one more EO_INBOUND_TO_OUTBOUND this will allow data not to be placed on Outbound queue and bring to inbound queue. This is having advantage that to process high volume message you will get better performance but disadvantage is when there is no receiver inbound queue is blocked.
It can be a issue related to connection. Please check with the RFC you have for proxy and IE RFC's
Thanks
Gaurav
