SGD 4.5 Desktop Functionality Issue

I've come across an odd functionality issue on SGD 4.5. When I start "My Desktop" everything works fine. However if I start a new Full JDS Desktop session on another server, the JDS session doesn't appear to load correctly. New windows automatically open in the upper left corner and can't be moved. If I close both JDS Desktop sessions and open the other system first, then "My Desktop" session doesn't open windows properly. Has anyone come across this? It's not to big of deal right now, but it might become more of an issue when more users start using our SGD instance.

The script for installing the users during installation when the users are not created is included some version before the 4.50.907
The SGD version here is only 1 minor version before the latest release.

If I look into the rpm (for Linux install) I don't see a check for a valid shell. It does however try to 'su' into those accounts. I might be wrong in this one.
Can you manually use 'su ttaserv' and 'su ttasys' without any problem? Do these users have a valid home-dir for example.

Fire the error log off to the e-mail address indicated in the error message and then contact Adobe Support.

Adobe Content Viewer (desktop preview) issues

The Adobe Content Viewer (desktop preview) runs off the bottom of my screen (27") when viewing content from InDesign for the new iPad. Would like to be able to alter window size and be able to scroll down to view artwork at full size. Am I missing something simple?
I've downloaded the latest updates for the folio producer tools as well as the folio panel update.

The Adobe Content Viewer for the desktop currently doesn't preview new iPad (2048x1536) folios properly. This desktop preview issue should be fixed in the next release.

Annoying desktop wallpaper issues

Lately i'm having issues with my wallpaper on my macbookpro. The state of my wallpaper now is white, just white nothing else. I try and apply a new image but it doesnt seem to do anything. Whenever i reboot my mbp, my old wallpaper images displays for a couple of seconds until osx is fully loaded but then goes back to white. I use a secondry monitor as well, but it displays images, just not the screen on my mbp. The mmp works perfecly, nothing else wrong with it (touch wood) just this really annoying desktop wallpaper issue!
Anyone have any ideas?

Ok it seems to of been a wee app called instantshot that was the culprit.

Win 10 - Desktop Icons Issue

Hi! Today I clean-installed windows 10, but I am facing an issue(?): Basically, I can't move my desktop icons to the last/bottom row, I mean just above the taskbar (possible thing in windows 8/8.1) I am going crazy for this! :\

What is the problem that you're having? Desktop Icons Issue isn't really enough information to go on.
Which T series system do you have, and what operating system are you running?

Functional Issues w/ IOS7

Depending on how this discussion board works, I will attempt to update functional issues with this operating system.
9/21/13: Alarm: Setting the alarm is rather akward, the numbers are too rigid, fine, and small. I feel the numbers being larger would be more user friendly.
9/21/13 Calendar: Previous version was superior in certain ways. Shading out a part of the day which you typically don't use (ex: 1am-5:30am) would be great. I feel lost in this update, it does not feel refined. Please allow me to send an appointment through imessage already as well!

I talked to Lenovo Tech Support today and the person told me he had never heard of this problem and that they do not monitor the Forums for systemic issues like this. Frankly, this person seemed clueless on many fronts so I am not sure either of those things are valid. It was an extremely frustrating telephone call.
In any case, I would like to rollback to the original version of the ATI drivers as well as "Presentation Director" to see if this fixes the problem. Does anyone have or know where to get the previous version(s) so I can test to see if it also has this problem?

I've been struggling with this for hours and even searching these forums I can't find any solutions. Hoping someone can assist me. I'm a newcomer to Lync, I've set up a Standard Edition Server, published my topology etc. without any problems
also made required DNS changes without problems. I'm stuck trying to login in to both the desktop software and the Android app. When I run connectivity tests I get the result detailed below.
If anyone can help or relate similar problems and fixes I would very much appreciate it.

Exec function issue on linux

I have a java daemon process A. Process A uses the Runtime.getRuntime.exec() function to run other java process(es) B at fixed intervals. Both A and B do not display any windows, frames, dialogs , messages etc...
Process A is started via commandline in ...../FolderA:
java - cp .:classesA.jar processA
In Process A, I use the exec function to launch Process B, in ..../FolderB as follows:
String command = java - cp .:classesB.jar processB
String workingDir = ...../FolderB
String envArray[] = null;
prcs = Runtime.getRuntime().exec(command,envArray,workingDir);
On Windows:
1) I can start Process A via commandline on windows, and it runs Process B correctly
2) I telnet to the windows system from linux, and start Process A. It still runs Process B correctly.
On Linux:
1) I start Process A via commandline from RedHat desktop terminal, and it runs Process B correctly, but I get the following message:
Warning: Cannot convert string "<Key>Escape,_Key_Cancel" to type VirtualBinding
Warning: Cannot convert string "<Key>Home,_Key_Begin" to type VirtualBinding..... + 4 more similar warnings
Even with these warnings, process B runs fine and returns with exit code = 0,
2) However, If I telnet to Linux from windows, and start Process B, then Process B fails and returns with exit code = 1. Also, no warning or error information is available from the runtime.exec function.
It seems like an 'environment' issue related to X11 or some shell setting needs to be put into envArray[]. I am not a Unix person and have no idea about fixing something like this. Any inputs would be appreciated.

In the GUI environment (whether you really use it or the JVM just thinks it is needed) the DISPLAY variable has to point to the X server. If you leave it out from the enviroment when exec'ing the second JVM from the first one, then it will become a problem.

Blackberry Desktop functionality

Hello,
I am currently a Palm Treo 650 user, and I'm considering migrating to a Blackberry Bold 9900. I understand that Blackberry has Blackberry Desktop for PC software, but I am not certain that it does what I need.
Questions:
My (possibly incorrect) understanding is that Blackberry Desktop does not offer functionality for contacts, calendar, tasks, or memos within the application. Instead, it simply allows a Blackberry device to synchronize with supported software that has this functionality, such as MS Outlook. Am I correct?
Does Blackberry Desktop backup all of the Blackberry's settings, so it my phone is lost, I can simply restore from backup and essentially be where I left off?

You are correct (though I might disagree with "simply"...but no matter!). Contrary to others, RIM elected to not force users to use only their PIM interface. Instead, they provide a conduit to synchronize with several desktop PIMs. See this for reference:

If you subscribe to a proper data plan, you also receive free access to the BB Protect OTA application, which does much the same thing, but also gives you some added security features in the event of a lost BB. After all, the BB itself is a mere commodity...the data on it, now that could be priceless (and worthy of good security measures)!

I cannot open my emails in google mail from my laptop, yet I can open them on my desktop without issue. whats changed?

Until yesterday I have not any issue with opening my email in google mail. I am a student at Miami of Ohio and access the email thru their site. The system functions fine other wise. I can open the email account and when I try to open the email it highlights the email, but will not open it. I tried to access it thru IE and it works fine. I also use Firefox on my desktop and as I previously mentioned it performs flawlessly. What could be preventing this from working? Once I try to open and email I cannot look at draft or sent emails down the list on the left side they are blank, yet on the desktop they are all present.
I have cleared the history, cookies, and cache and it still does not function.

Can I edit a Captivate 6 file in Captivate 8 and not risk functionality issues?

Our office has Captivate 8. I will be editing text in a Captivate 5.5 or 6 file. Will I be able to open the file in 8 without jeopardizing content design and functionality?

My specific issue was to open a CP6 project in CP8. Thanks for your comments and insight. I can see it may be a concern. But the good news is, I realized later that I still have CP6 on my desktop and will not need to struggle with the newer version.

RD-WebApps and GW 2012r2 Multiple Hosted Desktop Farms issue

I have an issue where we have two Farms talking to the same broker/WebApp/GW server. Each farm is broken into it's own session collection and defined by using DNS Round-Robin. This works perfectly on the inside, balancing and Session Broker are great,
however I'm having issues extending this to the outside.
1. When I launch the Web-App Desktop icon, the Server name is incorrect (used the internal FQDN of the GW-Broker server. I was able to find a script that changes that, however the script changes both of them. Which doesn't help me, thoughts here?
2. When I launch the RD connection I get a certificate error that states it's connecting to the .local name of the RDS server. I have replaced using WMI the RDP Listener certificate on all my servers, so I'm getting a certificate mis-match.
Again, this is not an issue on the inside. Thoughts here?
3. I have a basic question about DNS Round-Robin. In my experience DNS Round-Robin is not a method for redundancy, if site 1 is looked up and resolved but it's not responding (for whatever reason), how does it decide to go on to site 2?
I can really say I like the way this new RDS works for 2012r2, however there are still some missing puzzle pieces, some of it may be experience, but I've spent quite a bit of time researching this issue without result.

In Server 2012 R2 you normally configure things so that users make their initial connection to the broker(s) and then they are redirected to the appropriate RDSH or Win7/Win8 VM. The broker(s) handle the initial connections for multiple different collections
(old name Farms). In order for this to function the client sends the broker information about the target collection when it makes this initial connection.
For example, say you have 2 different collections, each with 3 RDSH servers. On collection A you have an ERP application published as a RemoteApp and on collection B you have Excel published as a RemoteApp. Domain Users group has access
to both collections. When a user logs on to RDWeb, they will see the ERP and Excel icons. Each icon represents a separate .rdp file that contains a loadbalanceinfo cookie with the required plugin and collection alias that
is used by the broker to figure out which collection is the intended target. When a user clicks on a RemoteApp this information is sent to the broker by the remote desktop client.
The above explains why you are able to use a single published FQDN for the broker(s) to handle multiple collections (or Farms if you want to use the old terminology).
You may have multiple connection brokers in a HA configuration pointing to a HA sql server. In this case you need to use NLB, hardware load balancers, or DNS RR to balance the incoming connections to the brokers. If you choose to use DNS
RR the downside is that if one of the brokers fails you need to manually remove the corresponding DNS A record of the downed server so that users are not sent to the failed broker.

Desktop Hardware issue. Need help

I have been having continuous problems with my HP pavilion p7-1044. LINK
--> System will shut off after staying on for about 7-10 minutes. The fans and motherboard lights stay on after the crash.
--> Try to power on after crash, the blue power light comes on, fans starts running, motherboard light comes on BUT the amber/orange light beside the blue power light does not come on and thus computer does not start
--> If i let it cool down for few hours, i may be able to get it up and running again. If i want the computer working right away after crash then I have to remove the fan, remove the processor and let it sit outside for 5-10 minutes and put it back and restart computer. then power blue light and orange processor? light comes on and computer starts
--> i have made sure its not power supply issue
--> i have wiped the silver liquid thats applied on the processor chip and applied new paste (followed a youtube video - step by step)
--> i have changed the fan. i have installed speedy fan and increased fan speed and that makes the computer stay on longer than 7-10 minutes. the computer stays on for hours but eventually crashes.
--> done all that i could find on HP support. (pretty much did all basic hardware test)
--> the desktop was off for 3-4 months and today i turned on the computer (hoping my computer may have forgotten that it had this issue since it was off for 3-4 months and may be it will start working properly now ! ). but i was wrong. the computer worked properly for 7-10 minutes and it crashed.
--> processor (little 1.5 inch chip) becomes very hot - which points that fan is issue but as mentioned above i have already replaced the fan and also tried increasing speed of fan
--> i have been working on this bloody issue for over a year now. i am so against taking the desktop to repair shop.
my next plan of attack to this problem includes replacing motherboard. or may be processor chip ...
any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
