Shades of Yellow

Over the time of using my Toshiba Excite Pro, I noticed that the display does not seem to show yellow well. Of course yellow is a somewhat fragile colour, and there are different shades around, but it seems that a lot of them turn out a lot more lime on the Excite than on other displays.
I could find some similar reports for the Lenovo Flex 2 14, which also uses a Pentile display. As far as I can tell, the display is an RGBW pentile display, which means that every pixel has two blue / white or two red / green subpixel. Getting the combination of red, green and white to show a good yellew seems to be a challenge.
Overall the display seems to be slightly too blue, and that may explain the greenish yellow to some degree. Is there any way to configure the colour balance?

System Preferences / General, check out the first two items: Appearance & Highlight (I think, I'm on Lion and Apple might have rearranged things around).

  • Yellow Highlights Behind Text

    Hi,
I'm relatively new to InDesign and I've opened up some files sent to me. Some of the text is highlighted. Can you explain why this might be? What eliminates this?
    Thank you!

    Hey!
InDesign does a bunch of highlighting for different warnings. Here are the main ones:
Pink highlighting means the highlighted font is missing. Very bad.
Amber highlighting means you've got substituted glyphs. That just means that if you typed something and changed the case to small caps, InDesign will substitute a real version of small caps for the formatted one provided your system has it.
There are 3 shades of yellow that indicate hyphenation & justification violations depending on how severe they are.
Also, a bright yellow indicates Keeps violations and Green highlighting means you have weird kerning or tracking.
    Does that help? :-)
Check your preferences under Composition. You can turn off the ones you don't want highlighted. I turn off everything except Substituted Fonts (you definitely want to know when the fonts are missing, but the other stuff is according to your own preferences).
I think there's an article around here somewhere on this (I wrote down those color definitions in my notebook). I'll see if I can find it.

  • Change shader on a sphere

    Hello.
I have a strange problem with changing shader on a sphere model while runtime.
    Let's say:
tModel : is reference to sphere model
tShaderYellow : is reference to standard shader with yellow texture
tShaderBlue : is reference to standard shader with blue texture
    now, if I do:
    tModel.shader = tShaderYellow
I have a sphere which is yellow...
...and then in runtime i change it:
    tModel.shader = tShaderBlue
    I get a green Sphere :/
It seems like shaders overlayed but:
    tModel.shaderList : contains only 1 shader (tShaderBlue)
    what I do wrong ?
    (sorry for my poor english)

  • Mac Mini Casing Turning Yellow / Beige

I have three Mac Mini Intels, two at work and one at home.
The one at home which was from march 2006 is white, the brand new one at work is white, but mine at work which is from around May has turned Yellow, an ugly ivory colour on the top, when the white remote is put on top, it is a totally different colour. Has anyone else got this?
I can only assume it is the daylight or flourescent tube on the ceiling above affecting the plastic.
    Not very pleased about this.

I haven't noticed any significant discoloration in my mini's, though when compared to a 3rd generation iPod, both look slightly yellowish. I have one in my office under fluorescent lighting, and one at home in daylight/partial sunlight but both look the same color, and both match a brand new mini I set up for a user.
The only mini I have seen show any real sign of discoloration was used in a smoking environment, where not surprisingly it turned a rather unpleasant shade of yellow.
Is it possible that there are trace chemicals or impurities in the air in your office that may have affected just that system?

  • Can't hear more than one track at a time on Logic Exp. 8/10.6.3

    Just what the subject says.
If I select a track, it sometimes plays the loop properly, but not always.
I've reinstalled the program, thinking that might help, but it doesn't.
    Any thoughts?

    What type of tracks?
Is the Bar Ruler a shade of yellow?
In the Mixer are the Mute buttons for channels flashing?

  • HP Officejet Pro 8000 A809 not printing blue

I've tried the suggestions here with no luck: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01962224&tmp_task=solveCategory&cc=us&dlc=en&la...
If you look at figure 11, group 2 after the black and gray block shows only a trace of blue, The 3rd and 4th blocks look pretty good, but the last one is shades of yellow.  I've tried a full cleaning cycle twice and have unplugged and re-plugged.  Oddly, the last time I cleaned, the intermediate cleaning results for blue look worse that the first phase of cleaning.  Also, if I print a full page, blue shows on the top half then fading out toward the bottom.  At this point I'm just wasting ink and paper.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks.

    Hi samsquared,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I have read your post on the dimishing print quality of the blue cartridge, and I would be more than happy to be of assistance!
In addition to faded colour, what does the quality look like on Test Pattern 3? Are there white or black lines going horizontal through the gray bars?
Since you have already performed two printhead cleanings with diminishing results, I would recommend replacing your magenta/cyan printhead. This step can be found in the Troubleshooting Print Quality Issues document under "step 3" of "Solution 4."
If replacing the printhead does not resolve your issue, please call our technical support at 1-800-474-6836. If you live outside the US/Canada Region please click the link below to get the support number for your region.

  • Can't create a solid color fill layer !!

I wonder if someone can help this PS newbie before I go insane ?
If I create a color fill layer & want to set it to a solid yellow color I can NOT get it to change color
no matter what I do on the color picker it remains white
I start clicking the small circle icon ( half black / white ) & selecting solid color
I click on the yellow bit of the vertical color bar & use the cursor to select the precise shade of yellow
to the top right there is a small rectangle
the color I choose - yellow - appears on the top half , the bottom half is white
I click OK so my small box is top-half yellow, bottom half white - the layer stays stubbornly white
shouldn't it go the color I choose ??
Now whats driving me mad is that last week I was doing this for fun
I had a jpeg file of a book page that I could create a highlighter pen effect by putting a yellow layer on top & sliding
the opacity down to 20% or whatever
I have opened one of the psd files I created & the color fill layer is yellow
the left-side palette thumbnail is yellow
when I edit the color the small rectangle is entirely yellow - top & bottom
I don't know what I am doing differently or not doing that I need to do ...
    any ideas gratefully received !

    YESSSS !!!!
sanity restored.....you, sir, are a genius.
    thankyou.

  • FB has changed colours, but only when viewed in Firefox Browser. Why and how to fix?

There appears to be something going on between the FB webpage and Firefox web browser. On my page it comes up with a pink background instead of the usual grey. Also posts that are linked to outside FB sometimes end up turning various shades - green, yellow and red. I have also reported this to FB. It only occurs in Firefox and FB appears normal in all other browsers. I have not manipulated the screen shots in anyway. It goes away for a bit when I refresh. Any link I share that has this odd colouring remains that colour once shared. Here's hoping you can find out what is going on. And for some reason the images won't attach to this report/question. The files aren't that big either.

  • Default Background Colour not Black?

I'm having a very irritating problem with the Windows default background colour.
A while ago I had set it to this off-shade of yellow, but now whenever I make a new theme (or even load a saved one) my background colour reverts to this aforementioned yellow instead of whatever I have set it to. Which means my themes can never be saved
and loaded, lest I want to see that awful colour again.
A step-by-step process for those who are having trouble understanding my wording:
make new unsaved theme, bg colour is currently set to yellow. I switch it to black, it works as intended.
    Save this theme.
Whenever I load the saved theme, the background colour is yellow, not black, despite all other personalizations saving correctly.
Is there a way to change the default colour so that all themes behave as intended, rather than reverting to my previously selected colour?

  • Possible to run 10.5 version of Preview in 10.6?

Does anybody know if you can install (I know how to do it with pacifist) and run the version of Preview from 10.5 in snow leopard? I like the old version of Preview much better.

A couple of things (from the few minutes I've used it).
    1) They changed the search function. The old one was much better.
    2) In the old version, you can choose what shade you wanted for the highlighter. I use 3 shades of yellow for example. In the new version, I only see about 8 or 10 choices.
    3) They moved the button to highlight text at the bottom and they made it smaller which takes more effort to hit and click.
I read at least 10 PDFs/week, many of them over a hundred pages long and I use about 12 different colors of shading (3 yellows, 3 greens, 2 reds, and some others). I also search these pdf docs and underline key words, sometimes I have to do this over 400x for one word in one document and I have about 30 key words that I search for.
With this version, my work is now much harder. I'm almost thinking of partitioning my external FW HD, loading 10.5 on it and booting off of it when I'm reading and highlighting these docs.

  • White Balance question

I have taken a few zillion pictures of various minor hockey games. I have not been wise enough to use a WB card, so most of the pictures are various shades of yellow due to bad lighting in the arena. EVERY picture however requires me to use the dropper to find a gray target and set the white balance that way. No big deal. But do I really have to do it for every picture? Why wouldn't the TEMP and TINT be the same for a whole game?
    Paul

Because the arenas are usually lit by high-bay lights, possibly a mixture of metal-halide and sodium. Each light has a different color, and they flicker at 120Hz. If you are shooting at shutter speeds faster than about 1/30th, you are catching pieces of cycles from individual lamps meaning the color and lighting are always changing.
The solution to this is lighting the arena yourself with big strobes. Sadly, getting them to install electronically-ballasted lamps into the arenas is not going to be so easy.

  • Automatic Fill colors for Report Builder pie charts and graphs are too repetitive and hard to differentiate

I have pie charts or other graphs that show multiple results (7-20).  I set the "fill" colors to Automatic so that the results are dynamic (I don't want to specify a color for each result because I will then be limited that those results--I
    prefer it to be dynamic).
I noticed that once you get above 4 or 5 results, no matter which palette is used, the "automatic" colors are so closely similar that it is hard to differentiate which color pertains to which result (group).  For example, you could have a
reports that breaks the results into age groups like 1-18, 19-21, 22-25, 26-30, 31-41, 41-50, 51-65, 66-80, and 81+.  By the time you review the results, there's likely to be 3 pairs of colors (or more) that are so closely similar that you can't
tell them apart (2 shades of yellow, 3 shades of blue, 2 shades of orange, or green, or teal, or purple or whatever).
Is there a way to use Automatic for the color scheme (I don't care which color pertains to which category) but also specify to not use colors that seem to bleed together (so that someone viewing the report can actually tell the difference)?  Using SSRS
2008 Report Builder, if it makes a difference.

    Hi JNehman,
Reporting Services provides a list of predefined, built-in palettes that you can use to define a color set for series on your chart. All built-in palettes contain between 10 and 16 color values. You cannot extend the built-in palette to include more colors,
so if you need more than 16 colors, you must define a custom palette.
A custom palette let you add your own colors in the order you want them to appear on the chart. A custom palette is especially helpful if the number of series in your chart is unknown at design time. For more information, see
Define Colors on a Chart Using a Palette (Report Builder and SSRS).

  • Alter color of pattern swatch w/o editing

I'm trying to alter the color of a pattern without actually editing it - similar to layer masking in PhotoShop.
For instance, in the example below, I want to ultimately change the color of (the visible parts of) the pattern (middle layer) to shades of yellow (top layer), but still be able to see the green underneath. I don't want to manually change the pattern swatch because I don't know which swatch I want to use yet. I assume the answer is something relating to masking, and adjusting the blending mode. I just haven't figured out the specific way in which to do it. Can anyone help?
    Thanks!
