Shadowing of Windows 7 clients from 2012 Connection broker.

Hi All,
In the 2012 Remote Desktop Services Applet, one has the ability to shadow virtual desktops. When I try to do this I get access denied (either viewing or controlling). I've turned on file and printer sharing and I'm logged on as an administrator. I can send
a message to the Virtual Desktop and Log them off. I've also installed the 8.1 patches for Windows 7 SP1.
Does the remote shadowing only work for Windows 8 clients??
SP1 updates applied:
KB 2574819: An update is available that adds support for DTLS in Windows 7 SP1 and Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1
KB 2857650: Update that improves the RemoteApp and Desktop Connections features is available for Windows 7
KB 2830477: Update for RemoteApp and Desktop Connections feature is available for Windows
KB 2913751: Smart card redirection in remote sessions fails in a Windows 7 SP1-based RDP 8.1 client
Thanks,
Kevin

  • RDS 2012 Connection Broker and round robin DNS?

    Hi,
I have a set-up with three session host servers and one of them is also a connection broker. Round robin DNS is configured for the three servers and the clients, who are all on our internal networks, can connect just fine to the farm name. My
questions is, is there any point in having round robin configured since the connections still need to go through the CB? Could i just have one DNS-record for the farm name pointing to the CB? My initial though was that round robin would add
redundancy, but does it realy? I've tried to find answers on this but none of the articles and posts i've found are realy clear to me.
Quite often the initial connection for clients is slow and my theory is that it's caused by the RR DNS records.

    Hi,
Thank you for posting in Windows Server Forum.
I think we need to have DNS RR entries for our RDS environment because DNS RR will be used by RDP clients to connect to the RD Connection Broker servers. Once when we allowed the entries of all server to DNS RR, when there is alternate connection need to capture
for following server it will provided by DNS RR.
During the connection process, the end nodes (RDVH, RDSH, RDWA) will get configured with all the RD Connection Broker server names, and they will randomly choose one to connect to. The RDP clients will use the DNS Round Robin name configured to connect to the
    RD Connection Broker servers randomly.
    More information.

  • RDS 2012 Connection Broker HA - DNS RR or NLB?

I'm setting up a new RDS 2012 farm and I need very high availability. I'm deciding on how to configure the connection broker HA. I have 2 server VMs that will be the gateway, rdweb, and conn brokers. The Microsoft article you have probably seen
RD Connection Broker High Availability in Windows Server 2012  recommends using DNS RR. And the standard
recommendation for the rd gateway is to use Windows NLB.
I'm a little perplexed as to why you would use DNS RR when you have a much more robust solution available with NLB. You are already setting up NLB for the gateway, so why would you use what I would say is an inferior choice with dns rr for the conn broker?
The main issue I see is that if one of the cluster servers is offline, dns rr will at least 50% of the time point clients to a broker that's not available. With NLB, it's aware of the server being down and will point all clients to the one that's online.
Am I missing something? Does anyone using NLB for conn broker have any input good or bad? Thanks much in advance...

    You need to read that:
    http://www.virtualizationadmin.com/articles-tutorials/vdi-articles/general/remote-desktop-server-farms-explained-part1.html
And when you said  "at least 50% of the time" don't forget the client DNS cache.

  • Windows 2008 R2 with Connection Broker

    Hi
Ive been trying to add windows 2008 r2 farm to vdi.
Ive done the steps to install the certificate etc on RDS hosts. I can add either one of the hosts as a desktop provider. But when i want to add 2 or more hosts to one desktop provider VDI complains the host belongs to a different farm. Although i've checked the farm names and loadballancing works.
    whats the problem here ?

The name defaults to the hostname. it doesnt pull the farm name from the winrm if you mean that.
That command says it can not find resource.

    Basicly what i did.
Install RDS Host on 2 servers.
Install RDS Connection broker on 1 server
Add RDS hosts to Connection broker local secuirty group
Joined 2 RDS hosts to the connection broker and same farm. Enabled RDS Load balancing.
added DNS entries for farm name.
Installed selfssl certificate ect... for WinRM.
Here the steps were a bit different than in the docs. 2008 r2 is a bit different.
    1. Cant install resource kit 6.0. but i got arround that no problem. I think i saw some IIS resource kit allready available in the Windows "Features" but nevermind. Selfssl worked.
    2. I couldnt do the winrrm crate/config/listener.... command. I had to run winrm qc (quickconfig) first. And then it worked.
rest of the story u allready know :)

  • Can't remove RD Virt Servers from RD Connection Broker

I have a single 2012 R2 server running CB, GW, WA with a single VD collection of 4 VM's. I had in the past added a couple of VH servers to add more collections, but the project colapsed and I was left with disolving the VH
servers and just having the origninal VH to run everything. The problem is I didn't use a HA sql db for the connection broker, and when I removed the other servers that were in the server pool, I didn't do it the right way. I just disolved the servers without
removing them from the pool first. Now I can't see my VD collection because it says that I have to readd the 2 servers back into the server pool first. When I run PS>Get-RDServer to see if I can use the remove command, it just gives me "The RD Connection
Broker is not available." I'm running the command from the CB, I have a user using the VDC, so I know it's working. I just can't figure out how to remove the servers without having to build them again, readd them, and then remove them. Any ideas anyone?

    Hi,
Here is a similar thread below with possible solution:

In addition, to safely remove the server from your RDS deployment, please contact Microsoft Customer Support Services, it is not recommended that we manually edit the database that is used by the RDS deployment.

  • How to Preserve UDA when Migrating Clients from 2012 Heirarchy to 2012 R2 Heirarchy

We are preparing to migrate 2500 workstation clients from one 2012 R2 hierarchy to another. How can we preserve UDA so that we don't have to wait for it to be automatically generated? This would impact our ability to provide support.

    I would say PowerShell. Use
Get-CMUserDeviceAffinity to get the information in the old environment and use
Import-CMUserDeviceAffinity to import the information in the new environment.

  • RDS 2012 Connection Broker and Web Access in different domains

    Hello!
I'm trying to add Web Access (WA) server to RDS 2012 Deployment. WA server and other servers in Deployment are in different domains (in different forests with 2-way forest trust).
WA server was added to Deployment
    successfully without any warnings.
We have many applications published but in this new WA server there are no application icons in Rdweb page at all.
There is nothing interesting in logs on WA server as well as on Connection broker servers.
    Is this design
acceptable? Which additional actions are needed to make application icons visible?

  • Server 2012 R2 Remote Desktop Connection Broker

I have installed RDS on a server named PLUTO on which Windows 2012 R2 datacenter is in. There is a domain controller (domain name: AGROSY) running on a Linux server. We have used Samba 3.6.6 to control the file sharing system.
When I attempt to install RDS in Server Manager, it states as following: could not retrieve the deployment information from RD connection broker server pluto.AGROSY.
Then, I searched a lot of solutions, e.g.  and tried as following:
    Enter-PSSession -ComputerName pluto   --> which works;
but Enter-PSSession -ComputerName pluto.AGROSY   --> which gives the error message as: Enter-PSSession : Connecting to remote server pluto.AGROSY failed with the following error message : WinRM cannot process the request. The following
error with errorcode 0x80090311  occurred while using Kerberos authentication: There are currently no logon servers available to service the logon request.
If I ping the pluto.AGROSY, it works as well.
I have no idea how it can be solved, please help me out. Thanks a lot!

For FQDN name, please see that RDCB is properly configured and also certificate which you have used for RDS environment must be trusted with its private key and must match the FQDN name of the server. Did you seen the certificate has been properly used and
configured. You can go through following article for certificate and also for configuring RDCB role.

  • Windows Server 2012 R2 Connection Broker migration

    Hi All,
I'm in the process of a VMware to Hyper-V migration and whilst in the process rather than migrating the 2012 RDS VM's over to Hyper-V I have decided to setup a bunch of 2012 R2 VMs. My original setup was
1 x Windows Server 2012 VM running RDSCB, RDSGW & RDSWA
2 x Windows Server 2012 VMs running RDSSH
    My new environment runs
    1 x Windows Server 2012 R2 VM running RDSCB, RDSGW & RDSWA
    2 x Windows Server 2012 R2 running RDSSH
I have the connection broker running in HA mode for SSO purposes and publishing the correct name.  This also made life easier when running the upgrade as I joined the new 2012 R2 VM to connection broker group which worked fine.
I then set the new 2012 R2 RDSCB VM as the active connection broker.  At this point the old 2012 VM was decommissioned (Without the RDS roles removed). As the old 2012 VM is now offline and un contactable when I add any new session hosts to the collection
I see an error stating it can't contact the old 2012 RDSCB.
I have been through the RDS connection broker database and removed any reference to the old RDSCB VM but this hasn't helped.  Does anybody have any other ideas or would you suggest re creating the collections from scratch?
    Alex

    Hi Alex,
To avoid future problems I recommend you wipe out the RDS deployment and recreate it again so that you will have a fresh database.  There is no need to switch to HA mode just so that you can change the published name.  I created a cmdlet that allows
you to change it in non-HA environments:
Change published FQDN for Server 2012 or 2012 R2 RDS Deployment

  • RV110W drops PPTP connections from a Windows client (MS CHAP v2 and MPPE)

This might be a tough problem to diagnose. I am trying to setup an RV100W for an office gateway with VPN access using PPTP. The office is located in another state, so I'm trying to do a "dry run" from home by setting up the RV110W on the local network. That is, my home network is 192.168.0.0 and I have assigned the RV110W a static IP address of 192.168.0.120 on its WAN side and a DHCP NAT internal network of 192.168.1.0. Its LAN IP is 192.168.1.2 (because of legacy limitations, the 192.168.1.1 address will be reserved for another host on the actual office network) and I set up the PPTP server on 192.168.1.3 and clients in the 192.168.1.20 to 24 range. I have enabled MPPE encryption and NetBIOS over VPN (rather important to have).
At first, I couldn't login at all. I had an underscore (_) in the user names (of which I have setup all five) and after I changed that, I was able to connect from a Windows 7 x64 host on the home LAN (192.168.0.132). I don't know if that was the problem as I got disconnected and reconnecting was a hit-or-miss - sometimes it would work, sometimes - it wouldn't. Below is the log from the session, showing the reasons for the disconnection. When I try to connect and it gets rejected, otherwise, the reason is the same: protocol not available.
But, first - here's the kicker. I had the exact same experience earlier with a DD-WRT router. I thought the problem lied with the amateurish firmware and that's why I decided to get the Cisco, but it seems like this might not be the problem, after all. Here is that discussion for full details: http://www.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=149951&highlight= (to see all of the attached images and logs, you'll need an account). Briefly, with the same setup, I can establish a stable VPN connection from four Windows XP clients and one Windows 7 client, but I get the problems with two other Windows 7 clients. The Win7 clients that give me trouble can connect just fine to other PPTP VPN servers (with the built-in Microsoft PPTP client) and all three Win7 machines are clones of each other (only the hardware is different). No software firewalls, anti-virus/malware, user-permission limitations (e.g., UAC), or anything that could hamper the connections, are present on either machine.
I don't see how the fact that the RV110W is on a LAN and not exposed to the Internet on its WAN side could cause any trouble, but even then - why some clients work fine and others - not? I would appreciate any help with this issue.
    Kamen
This is the log from the session, showing the connection of the VPN client and then, not two minutes later, the disconnection.

Update: things are getting even weirder. In short - it seems to be working now (on the next day) without anything changing. First thing I did was just try another desperate tweak - I disabled the LCP extensions on the Windows client, which I've done before. It connected and stayed that way. Then, I reverted that setting back to exactly how it was before and connected again - no problems: it stayed connected for an hour (before I disconnected so I can connect to the real VPN), I could access a test-PC on the private network (a single machine just for the test) and do different tasks (resolve host names, browse UNC paths, copy files, Remote Desktop to it, etc.)
I hate it when things happen, for which there is no explanation. I couldn't be confident sending this to the main office to replace the existing router (hardware) and VPN server (implemented in software on a Windows 2003 server). Any thoughts?
    Kamen
P.S. I'm attaching the logs from the successful session in case someone wants to compare them, but they seems quite identical (some different ConfAck / ConfNak  sequences, but that doesn't seem to make much difference).

Used the happy wizard to create everything, and got no errors.
I have created a small pool collection, and given rights to domain users. Everything "looks" good.

    I have the same problem.

(You only need the one file "SQLManagementStudio_x64_ENU.exe")
    Ran this as Administrator
And typed in the Server Name field
    \\.\pipe\MICROSOFT##WID\tsql\query
    Then hit connect.
    Expanded Databases (+sign)
    Expanded RDCms
    Expanded Tables
Right Clicked on rds.target, select Edit top 200 rows
Right Clicked and copied, then pasted this into a notepad file on the desktop (As a backup)
Right Clicked and selected Delete to delete the row with the data in it (and PoolID was set to Null in this row)
    Did the same for rds.pool
Manually added Remote Desktop server into the MEMBER OF tab of
“Windows Authorization Access Group” via Active Directory Users and Computers. As this domain was Windows 2003 Native when the RDS server was first installed.
    Rebooted server and same issue>
Checked SQL again and rows had come back.
Is that what you meant by "delete
the rds.target and rds.pool with pool id = NULL"?
Not a SQL guru, so any help appreciated.

  • RD Connection Broker Fails to install on Windows 2012 R2, fresh install

I have been fighting this for a week
Trying to install RD connection broker service on a Server 2012 R2.  I've had multiple errors, ranging from the "Server pending reboot" issue, to the install just hanging for 15-20 minutes and then failing.  This is NOT on a DC, and I've
tried it on a fresh 2012 R2 server, and a fully updated Server 2012 R2.  It has to be something on the domain I'm joined too, as I can install it with no problem on test servers/domains at my office.

    Hi CitadelTCS,
Some folk meet this issue because the server is DC, in your case could you try to run SFC /SCANNOW then monitor this issue again.

  • Windows storage server 2012 share not connecting by share name but connecting thru IP address from windows XP machines

We have a windows storage server 2012 (HP storage server) in our domain. All of sudden We had a issue, connecting the server shares using the share name only from XP machines, but it is connecting through IP address with a delayed response. We are getting
the below error message from all the windows XP SP2 machines in our domain.
"\\<share name> is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have a access permissions.
Login Failure: The target account name is incorrect."
But it is connecting while we are trying from windows 7 machines.  Also the other server shares (Windows 2003 server) are connecting without any issues using the share name. In addition to this we gave everyone permission for this share. And it worked
well before but not now. Could you please suggest any solution for this complex issue?
    Thanks,
    UdayaKumar S
