Shadows around icons/thumbnail images

I notice that iTunes U forces a small shadow around all the 60x60 thumbnail images.
Is there a way to turn that off, somehow? If not, can I put in a feature request to have an option to remove those shadows?
I don't like the way they look, and would like to remove them if possible.
Thanks any help.

I'm not sure that shadows can be turned off ... they seem to be a feature of the iTunes Store generally speaking. Still, you can't win if you don't play ... 'er ask Apple if it's possible.

  • Automatically generate thumbnail image icons for all pix and vids...

    hello,
i've searched around on the forums a bit about making the icons of my pics and vids actual thumbnail images made from the picture or the first frame of the video.
a lot of responses are mistaking this question for "how do i put the window into icon view?" this infact is not the answer that i suspect a lot of windows converts are looking for.
windows automatically makes such icons for all pix and vids if you put the window into icon view.
i notice in at cmd-j or in the window preferences there is a checkbox for "show image preview" or something like that, but despite this being checked, my pix and vids do not show an image preview. i'm gathering that this information does not exist in the resource fork which mac uses to organize photos.
is there any script or addition i can make to my system to automatically generate icons for pics and vids of all types? how to i suggest to mac that they add this functionality into the next release?
    thanks for your time,
    max

The Finder will create icons "on the fly" for nearly all graphic type files (jpegs, tiff, psd, and so on) and display them in both icon view and column view, provided the appropriate view preference has been set. Movies will just have the generic movie icon in icon view, and have a "live" preview in column view, ie you can play them in preview mode. If you want to add a permanent thumbnail which will display in all views, and whether or not the preference has been set for a particular folder in Finder, you'll need to add a thumbnail to the file. There are lots of ways to do this for static pictures, even rather clumsy ways to do it for movies, but the easiest thing is to get CocoThumbX:
    http://www.stalkingwolf.net/software/cocothumbx/
Drag and drop both static pictures and movie files onto the application and a permanent thumbnail is created. Indeed, it will create cool thumbs even for things like PDF and HTML files (code or rendered display). For movies to get a thumb, they must be in a format that QuickTime can read. It has a set of preferences for just how you want the thumb determined (eg random or at a certain time), and you can drop batches of movies or even folders to have it assign thumbs to multiple movies at the same time. It is a way cool piece of shareware.

  • Strange behavior - icon thumbnail instead of image - CC@OSX10.10

    Hi,
my CC (@OS X 10.10.3) showing a strange behavior using vanishing point filter.
After defining grid and try to paste the image OS X paste the icon thumbnail instead of the image,
    Many thanks in advance!!

It is probably related to the fact that you are setting the tables row height in the renderer this will fire a render message when the height changes. One height is applied to all rows of a table. This means that is you have images of different heights you are continually changing the tables row height and therefore continually rendereing.
My approach would be to have all the images fit into a set size ( say 64*64 ( with scaling if neccesary ) you could then have a popup show the full size image if required.

  • Print Module: Faint shadow around printed image (Mac OS, Canon 9500)

I am seeing a faint shadow around my prints. On 8.5x11 prints it extends above and below the image as though it's completing the parts of the cell that don't contain the image. On 13x19 prints it extends above and below the image in thin strips, but not all the way to the cell size. This is for 3:2 aspect ratio images.
It looks like Lightroom is trying to print white within the parts of the cell not containing the image, but that white is being translated into near white before being printed, perhaps because of a bad color management setting. But I don't understand why Lightroom is doing this at all, rather than just not printing anything where there is no image. The colors in the image itself look accurate, at least to my eyes.
I got this printer about a year ago, and I wasn't seeing this at first. I just noticed this recently, but I went and looked at some older prints and some of them have it and some don't, so sadly I am not certain when it started or what changed when it did.
I am using Lightroom 2.5 on Mac OS X 10.6.2 using the printer drivers that came with Snow Leopard. The printer is a Canon PIXMA Pro9500 using standard LUCIA ink. The paper is Ilford Galerie Golf Fibre Silk, and I'm using Ilford's ICC profile for this paper and printer.
As for color management, in the Print Module I have the profile set to the Ilford profile, and I have the rendering intent set to perceptual, although this happens with relative as well.
In the printer driver, when I click "Print Settings…" in the Print Module, color matching is set to ColorSync. The only other choice is Canon Color Matching, but that's grayed out.
Is anyone else seeing this and can it be fixed?
I am frustrated that Lightroom is printing where there is no image. It's very obvious when I print a square image so there is a great deal of empty space on either side of the image. I can see the print head going back and forth for a couple of inches where there is no image. I don't understand why Lightroom can just make the printer advance the paper to where the actual image starts.
I'm not looking for a workaround. I know I could just live with it or just mat the print such that the faint shadow can't be seen. I'd rather actually understand what Lightroom or my printer is doing.
    Thanks!

I played around with it and it's definitely Lightroom. The faint color is being laid down inside the area defined by Cell Size where there is no image.
For example, I have a 3:2 aspect ratio image. I am using US Letter size paper. I have 1-inch margins left and right, and 1.38-inch margins top and bottom. That translates into a Cell Size of 8.24 by 6.5 inches. To fit into the cell, my image size is 8.244 by 5.496 inches. So my image is the same height as the cell, but it's about 1 inch shorter in width, so I get a pair of 1/2-inch wide faint color bars on either side of the image.
If I change Cell Size so that it is the same width but longer height than my image, then I get faint bars above and below the image, rather than on either side. As long as the Cell Size is not equal to the image size, then I'll get the faint bars anywhere in the cell where there is no image.
If I manually type in the the Cell Size to exactly match the image size, then I get no bars.
This means to me that Lightroom is "printing" white everywhere inside the cell where there is no image, and for some reason that white is being rendered as something other than white on the paper. I don't understand why, nor do I understand why Lightroom needs to print anything at all where there is no image.
But at least for now I have a workaround, although I'd rather fix the problem.

  • Adobe Reader PDF Desktop Icons No Longer Thumbnail Images

    Hi...
I am running Windows 7 Home Premium x 64 - and thanks to a fix for this I found somewhere a while ago, it's been working fine for the longest time.  In the past week, I see that my Adobe Reader desktop icons are no longer thumbnail images - they are back to the old standard Reader icons.  I've tried uninstalling / reinstalling Adobe Reader - unapplying / reapplying this x64 thumbnails fix - and combinations of the two.  Nothing has worked thus far.
Does anyone have a suggestion / fix / etc. on how I can get my PDF icons back to the thumbnail images - NOT the standard gray .PDF reader icons?
    Thanks so much!
    Andy

    Hi Jnicholas330,
I need your XFA form file to investigate the issue. I sent a separate mail to you.
    Thank you.

  • Changing "Icon size" causes .ARW thumbnail image in folder to disappear and icon to appear

Is this a bug everyone is getting?
Have  .ARW files in a folder and it shows  thumbnail images of the .ARW files, but if I increase or decrease the slider to different sizes (to view better), a icon will appear instead of the . ARW preview image. Out of all the sizes on the slider only 2 or 3 sizes will show the .ARW thumbnail image.
    Any ideas? known issue?
    thanks

The method I use is to open the jpeg file Command+A (select all) then Command+c (copy) close the jpeg preview window. Select the small icon on the top left corner of the get info window for the perspective folder. Command+v (paste) puts the copied image in and it then becomes the icon. If you want to use the drag and drop method you will need to convert the image file to an icon which can be done with automator. The icon however is less clear when you do that.

  • No thumbnail images - only icons instead

Bridge does not cache images from my m2t- and mpg-files, only from avi. Consequently there are no thumbnail images in the 'CONTENT' window, but only MS Media Player icons (I'm not sure whether this is the correct name for the window, in German it is 'INHALT'). Note: The 'PREVIEW' is working well.
I just have installed a codec-package containing all types I use, especially m2t.
    Any help is appreciated.
    Christian

    Hello Ann,
I've got a question on the display of thumbnails issue. I only have Bridge CS2, so it's probably not even close to up to being as powerful as later versions. Mention was made of the File Associations in Preferences, and these only affecting the associated program to open into. In searching, I noticed that Bridge CS2 does not have many of the AV file types listed. There is no WMV, MPEG (also none of the more current versions of MPEG), and even AVI is missing. The only thumbnail that I got was from an .ASX file. Now, this is Bridge from the CS2 Production Studio, installed with PrPro, AE, etc.
As I usually use another cataloging program, ThumbsPlus for AV Assets, and Bridge just for my RAW, TIFF, PSD and JPEG images, I had not really noticed this, until I was invited to join in on this thread. Do those "missing" file types show up on Bridge CS3 - CS4? I would just assume that they were added post-CS2.
Now, as you know, there are all sorts of general reasons for thumbnails not appearing in cataloging programs. I have found that MPEG-1's seldom display. MPEG-2's more often do. AVI's (unless they are encoded with the DivX/Xvid CODEC) usually do show. MOV and WMV seem to be a crap-shoot, with MOV's seldom displaying thumbnails. I'd wager that most of this is due to an incompatibility between the encoding CODEC and the various programs, and how they handle the CODEC's, even when installed on a system.
Sorry to only have questions, and no suggestions, but I hope to learn something about Bridge along the way.
    Thanks,
    Hunt
[Edit] The above references just the Thumbnails. With Preview, I do get the first frame, along with any muxed audio. I do not have any of the recent HD MPEG's to test with. Even without those file associations, Preview works fine. Now, I have to go find some MPEG-1's and test a few of those.

  • I erroneously deleted some background icons, that now have left me with only thumbnail images, what appears when I want to enlarge is a grey circle containing a black exclamation symbol, how can I get back full function and undo my mistake

I have erroneoulsy deleted icons repetious images from the computer which then affected my iphoto images, leaving me in some cases only with the thembnail image.   When I try to enlarge or perform any other function all that appears is a black field containing a grey circle with a black exclamation symbol( !)
within it.  How to I get back full function of these affected images and undo my goof up.   I have tried restore, but my attempts have not proved successful.
    Help !!!
    silvercoho

What exactly did you do to delete these?
How did you try to "restore" and what did you try to restore?
Probably the only solution is to restore your backup of the iPhoto library  from before you did this

  • Some Thumbnail images not showing up in folders? just a icon

Just bought a Brand new Mac with i7 processor. It did not come with Lion installed though. So before doing anything I upgraded to the free Lion update. So here is the issue.
For some reason i cant view preview thumbnail images of some .ARW and .jpg files in some folders, while others I can. I made sure all the "view options" were set and everything. Also moved files to new folders. So here is what I did.
    1. Reformated and Reinstalled Snow Leopard and put my .ARW files and the preview thumbnails show up in all folders with no issues. Then I updated to Lion again and now some show and some don't. The funny thing is that now files that did not show thumbnails the first time now does, and some that shown thumbnails now don't. Its different each time I install Lion OS
    2. I removed the hidden .DS_Store files in these folders just to make sure those where not effecting it as well, but it did not do anything after a new one appeared.
Whats up with Lion? known bug? I did a search and did not hear about this issue yet? Am I the first lucky one?

I am having similar problems with viewing jpgs in preview / finder in 10.7... but only those that were create by either lightroom or photoshop ( LR 3 / PS CS4) after installing Lion... they preview fine in bridge and every other app.... Just not in Finder etc....
    Very annoying!
If anyone has any suggestions, I am all ears.

  • No thumbnail images when viewing pictures folder via desktop & screensaver

When I go into system preferences and then Desktop & Screensaver I chose the pictures folder. It does not show any thumbnail images of any of the contents of my Pictures Folder, yet clicking on a blank area of space applies a desktop???? I have never seen this before anyone have any ideas?

There may be some minor issue or glitch in the system; and perhaps even
starting up in SafeBoot and using Disk Utility's repair disk permissions, then
quitting the utility, and restarting normally may help repair this situation.
    Some file types, in some cases, may not appear in icon or thumbnail view;
and there are a few image editor applications whose custom icon thumb-
nail views actually appear as a generic icon w/o an image; but an original
import from a camera will have the correct thumbnail captured by Finder
    and/or Preview (or iPhoto) by first-contact with the image from the camera;
but Photoshop or other third party shareware or freeware may not show one.
For a normal situation where a thumbnail image icon should be present:
Open up a finder window and do like this: from Finder=View=Show View Options
=Show Icon Preview. That will give you a thumbnail view of whatever document it is.
You can select to do this setting for all windows
Apparently your situation is different in that there may be a permissions or other
issue going on in the system; so try routine maintenance and also see if the images
are in the correct location for the system to see them. If the system is really messed
you may have to consider repairing it; try booting from the native disk utility in OS X
boot/installer disc, repair disk and repair disk permissions; then reboot using Startup
Disk in the boot disc's utilities menu (in installer menubar) and immediately press &
hold the Shift key on startup to engage SafeBoot; and re-repair disk permissions
from the System's hard drive located Disk Utility to re-correct these permissions, as
they will probably not be proper for the fully updated system running in the computer.
    Then restart normally.
There may be file damage, so if that is discovered through additional troubleshooting,
you may have to consider a new system folder, as in "Archive & Install" then update.
Repair disk permissions between all update & install steps of system and other software.
If you have and use a utility interface tool such as OnyX (runs free, is donationware) from
Titanium Software, download from their site; and run all the checkbox items in Automation,
and then restart the computer - or set its preferences to do that also, automatically - this
    may help general system health. It may not be able to fix something deeper in the system;
but a third party disk utility such as DiskWarrior or Drive Genius2 may help in other matters.
In some cases, depending on what images are involved and where they came from, be
they a chosen set of personal images you've directed the system to use as background
desktop images in Finder, or a set of Apple-supplied images, the results can be different.
I use a folder of camera created scenics as desktop backgrounds and use ToyViewer to
edit and rotate at a most basic level, since I try to make photos in the camera and not edit.
Sometimes, these will have generic non-image icons and not thumbnails; there is a way
to work around the issue should a whole folder of them go bad or change over w/o notice.
Hopefully someone who has fixed this problem will write a follow up; it is getting late in my
timezone and I am running on empty per this topic, among others... You may resort to an
Apple help or Apple Support documents search for a matching topic. That's a huge library.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • How to I get high res thumbnail images?

Just discovered once I've imported images into my library Aperture 3.2.2 (running under 10.7.3) doesn't render high res thumbnail images (when the Browser Thumbnail Resize slider is set to the far right/maximum), even though my "Previews" preference settings are as follows:
"Use embedded JPEG from camera when possible" is unchecked
"Don't Limit" for Photo Preview is selected
Photo Preview quality set to 10
Deleting and regenerating thumbnails doesn't solve the issue. However, if I delete the photo from the referenced library, then reimport the image, the browser thumbnail image renders sharp. The low res thumbnail is at left; high res thumbnail (after re-import) is at right. Both thumbnails images are sharp when the Browser Thumbnail Resize slider is positioned in the middle. Photos render sharp in the Viewer, regardless.
Going back through my images, it seems Aperture stopped providing a sharp thumbnail image since around July 2010. Other than updating Aperture, my workflow or supported camera hasn't changed. Couldn't find a reference to this issue in the User Manual. Am I missing something a setting somewhere?
    Thanks,
    Eric

Its unclear if the command Generate Thumbnails actually does anything if the thumbs already exist and as there isn;t a Delete Thumbnails command like there is a Delete preview command there are only two ways to force a new thumb to be generated.
One is to import the image again and two is to delete the Thumbnail folder in the Aperture library. I don;t know for sure if this will fix you problem but as I said it is the only way to force the generation of the thumbs.
If you try this make sure you have a good working backup of the library. Nothing here will normally cause data loss but it is always a good idea before messing with the library.
Quit Aperture, Highlight the library in the Finder and right click, Select show package contents. One fo the folders you'll see is Thumbnails, delete it. Open Aperture.
Also be aware that the regeneration of the thumbs will take some time. Depending on the size of the library it could be an all day affair. Aperture is usable while this is going on but it will be slower.

Bad choice. Only one person involved in that thread knew what they were doing...and you copied from the wrong one.
Here is my procedure:Lose it. Custom download procedures are overcomplicated and now almost never required.
See the recommendation to use declarative BLOB support, as shown in the Thumbnail image problems.

  • How to rotate a thumbnail image in Finder?

Is there a way to rotate a thumbnail image in Finder? When I click a photo in a Finder folder, the image automatically opens in Preview and the image is correctly displayed right side up. But the thumbnail image is displaying a vertical photo horizontally. Can I rotate the thumbnail?

    corelle,
please open the sidebar of the Preview window and check how the thumbnail is displayed there.
If the orientation is wrong in the Preview sidebar as well, then apparently some program rotated the image but not the EXIF preview image, which is obviously not a good thing.
If the orientation is correct in the Preview sidebar, but wrong in the Finder, then the file probably has a custom icon with wrong orientation. This should then be removed rather than rotated. It's useless anyhow because Snow Leopard's Finder can better use the EXIF preview image instead.

  • Transparent shadow crossing over the image in pdf output

    Hi Folks,
In recent days, we are frequently facing problem in using of tiff format image in InDesign. In pdf output, there is some transparent shadow crossing over the image. The problem occurs in ps to pdf as well as export pdf settings. The issue was not happened for the past 5 years.
If it is a reproducible error, we could find the root cause of the problem. But the same issue does not occur if we create the pdf again. Please see below the differences in viewing of actual image & problematic image and suggest how to resolve this and why it happens.
    Issue 1:
Actual view of image shown in left side; Corrupted view of image shown in right side
    Issue 2:
    Issue 3:
Now I have suggested my team to convert all tiff images to psd image format. I really don't know whether it helps. All I need is to know the root cause of the issue. Anybody please suggest would be really helpful.

    @Tyson:
In Issue 2, horizontal green color shading is crossing above the play/pause icon in right hand side of the image.
In Issue 3, I have displayed the screenshot of the image placed in InDesign to show the original view of the image. But the problem shows in right hand side that is pdf output view. You can see the horizontal green color shading in 1st image and light grey color shading (at the top of "NO" text) in 2nd image.

  • Thumbnail images in Forms6 client/server

    Hello,
Some help would be greatly appreciated on this matter. I would like to be able to display a thumbnail image of a picture on the web in an oracle, NON-WEB enabled form.
For example, when I open a form dealing with product details, I would like a piece of magic to retrieve a thumbnail image of the product from somewhere on the web, and display it on the form. Please note, in my situation it is not viable to store a scaled down version of the image int he database. The image must be located somewhere on the web.
Some research into this has pointed me to OLE, but I can't seem to find anythng relating OLE to images in forms.
    Any ideas?

    Denis,
I followed the instructions in the link you gave (how to put animated icons in forms in which you instructed how to use an activeX control to display images in client/server forms.
I would like to thank you as it works beutifully, however there is one more question - Is there a way to get to image to scale or 'fit' to the size of the activeX control on the form
