SHAKE $499? WOW!!!!!!

Would anyone here know why Shake went down from $3000 to $499?
It sounds craZY!
Is this a good program for people using the HVX200 Panasonic, shooting at 720 24p HD, because I am buying it!
Thanks!

Always best to stay in one thread.
The Panny shoots video. Shake is a high end node based compositing package.
It all depends on what you wish to do with the video shot by the HVX200.

    Shake is great software - I couldn't do my job without it (or something like it). It would seem that the reason for this price drop (even more substantial considering that when I bought it, I believe the price was $4999 (or $5999?) is in this email sent to the Linux users of Shake:
    Hello,
    We are very pleased to announce the release of Shake 4.1. Please carefully
    read this entire email. The important points contained within are:
    1. Summary of enhancements
    2. Your download user name and password.
    3. Software download and install instructions
    4. License setup
    5. How to get assistance
    Shake 4.1 is a Mac OS X Universal Binary which means it runs natively on
    both PowerPC and Intel-based Macs
    Shake 4.1 is an upgrade to Fedora Core 4 Linux.
    Shake 4.1 is a maintenance release. Make sure you check out the
    Late-Breaking News link in the Shake help menu for additional information on
    Shake 4.1.
    -----------IMPORTANT NOTICE-----------
    New Mac OS X seats can now be purchased via the Retail box for a modest
    price of $499 with unlimited render licenses. Shake 4.1 Linux licenses
    remain available directly through [email protected].
    Apple will no longer be selling maintenance for Shake and no further
    software updates are planned as we begin work on the next generation of
    Shake compositing software. While we're excited about the innovations we can
    bring in the future, we understand you have a business to run today that
    requires Shake. To that end, we will provide all Maintenance customers with
    the following three options:
    A. Customers can continue with end-user e-mail support, as well as SDK
    support for the duration of their Maintenance contract.
    B. Customers may elect to cancel their Maintenance and receive a pro-rated
    refund for the unused portion. Existing software licenses would continue to
    function according to the Software License Agreement. Maintenance customers
    that wish to cancel their contract must do so by July 23, 2006.
    C. Additionally, Maintenance customers may choose to license the Shake 4.1
    Source Code for $50,000. The Source Code license includes a 5,000 seat
    volume license of Shake 4.1. This offer is designed to help facilities with
    significant Shake investments maintain a reliable and controllable visual
    effects pipeline. Maintenance customers that wish to license the Shake 4.1
    Source Code must do so by July 23, 2006. Apple reserves the right to refuse
    any maintenance customer source Code access.
    (highlighting mine)
    I'd buy it now if I didn't already have it.

    when I upload videos from iphone 4 to PC they skip frames. It isn't camera shake or anything like that.  Any solutions?

    Wow that was really quick, thank you so much.  Im not sure at all which version it was because i said it was around 4 years ago he bought it.  I know it isn't under his username, since he's a PC person (ugh) so i know its probably registered to one of our actual names.  isn't there some way to look it up since we did register it, because I'm not even sure where the disks are from when we bought it (we've moved a lot and also have two storage lockers, i know i would have kept it with other disks) but my cd rom drive is actually broken on my computer as well ( i think it got stepped on and is now squished and won't eject or run disks.)
    So is there anyway they can look up that its registered to one of our names since we did register it when we bought and installed it, or do i really have to find the disk with some sort of proof of purchase (i know there would be no receipt after all this time)
    either way, ill do what you suggested to the best of my abilities and thank you so much for answering my questions, i can't even open the program as its incompatible and find out the info from that) so I'm in a bit of a pickle and your response was so thorough and it didn't seem to be posted long enough to even write a well researched response, thanks, all the best,

  • Shake too sensitive?

    Is there any way to deal with an iPad 2 whose "shake" sensor is too sensitive?
    Simply typing on it is enough to trigger a "shake" response which undos what you just typed.
    I am not asking about how to disable the shake sensor, but how to adjust it to make it less sensitive to unintended invocation.
    Evidently, it has been this way out-of-the-box (ie, a few months), but the person using it didn't realize that it was not normal until they were typing on mine.

    Wow.  I did not even know that there was a shake to undo.  Learn soething every day.  But i notice your profile says  you are on 4.3.   It may be that they tweaked that with the more recent software upgrades.

  • Shake

    I am happily using Aperture on my MacBook. I just noticed Apple announcement that Shake's price is reduced from $4000 to $500. That made me take a look at what that software is. Wow! Did I misunderstand it or could Apple make us PhotoShop independant very easily by moving some technology from Shake to Aperture?
    And, would Shake be usable as a PS alternative in an Aperture workflow?
    Sorry if these questions are silly.
    MacBook   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

    No way. Shake is a high-end movie compositing application. It has very little to do with photo workflow. I mean, it has layers, but porting Shake as an Aperture plug-in would be doing 40x the work I'd think was necessary to "cleanly" add features to Aperture

  • Is Shake as good for miniDV footage?

    This is also posted at creativecow:
    I want to take on a project that will involve various tools/effects. I'm researching Shake (now that it's $499) and it appears to be the right tool for the job. However, I've only used FCP and your knowledge will be greatly appreciated. (I had previously considered AE and Combustion.)
    Here is what my project will need:
    1. Rotoscoping - to create a 'clipping effect' of a person walking thru an object/wall. Cleaning up shots that greenscreening didn't cover completely. Fix composited shots where there is improper overlapping.
    2. SuperSlow Motion - How slow can I go? Can I go to a stop and ramp back up? Is it smooth?
    3. Tracking - for compositing 2d items together. (Using tracking data from someones eyes and applying a paint operation to it. Or creating a sign that would be added to the scene where the camera is moving.)
    4. Stablizing handheld shots - I'll try to be as still as possible, but this could be very valuable. (I figure this could begin to look awful if there is too much bounce in the footage because miniDV probably doesn't scale up very much.)
    I know Shake can handle these tasks, but I'm questioning how well it will perform with my miniDV footage. Are others using Shake with miniDV? Are they/you satisfied with Shake... is it what you expected?
    Lastly, I currently have a one button mouse. The Apple three button mouse seems OK... What do you recommend?
    Thanks,
    Jon Banker

    Howdy,
    I shoot all I do in MiniDV. I am just doing little corporate videos and such. Let me just respond to what I know.
    1. We have rotoscoped a car. Me walking toward the car. It turned out pretty good for only spending an afternoon. If you allocate lots of time, you can make it look pretty good with Rotoscoping in Shake.
    2. No Experience
    3. I have recreated the HP Photo Commercial using the MatchMove Node. It turned out pretty well. It is a little tough to get a Really good Track with MiniDV, but with a lot of patience it can be done.
    4. No Experience
    I use Shake 4.1 on an Intel iMac. It runs really nice on MiniDV Footage.
    Take Care,
    Nate

  • Importing 16:9 footgae into Shake from FCP

    I am a new user to Shake, and I have green screen footage I have filmed in 16:9 (PAL) on my Sony FX1 camera for compositing as a test and I am importing it into Shake but It is stretched vertically.
    I am outputting it as DVPAL 48KhHz, should I be doing it another way to get it as the natural size in Shake?
    Also do I need to put the .mov extension on the file?

    Wow - greenscreening DV. This will require some care to achieve good results, but it can be done. Some horizontal blur on the chroma can help. There are also some macros available for download on the http://www.highend3d.com/shake/downloads/ site - a great resource, btw.
    There is a whole section of your manual that discusses dealing with anamorphic footage, beginning (in the PDF version, anyway) on Page 209, entitled Importing Video and Anamorphic Film... Starts with About Aspect Ratios and Nonsquare Pixels.
    Hope this helps,
    Patrick

  • Shouldn't Shake work as stated?

    Still going thru tutorials and have a few bugs and wonder if anyone else has them. Even got a replacement installiation disk from Apple.
    #1. Load tutorial scripts - Nodes colored red - 'Node in Error' warning.
    #2. Empty Node thumbnail frames when I manually reconnect to media. Empty Viewer also.
    Insert new Node under empty thumbnail node, Undo and only then have picture in thumbnail frame.
    #3. Deleting noodles - Move cursor over noodle, noodle changes color - hit delete and nothing happens.
    #4. Inserting Node. Hover Node over noodle to connect and nothing happens.
    DP 2G G5, 4.5 G RAM   Mac OS X (10.4.8)
    DP 2G G5, 4.5 G RAM

    Wow - a replacement disk from apple? Sounds like a lazy customer service rep.
    1. You'll find that Shake mostly uses absolute paths - that is including the name of your system. This enables it to function in a renderfarm/networked computing environment where a job may be be broken up across several computers. So you're supposed to re-connect the media when performing the tutorial.
    2. Thumbnails don't always update properly. They do sometimes when you turn them off and on ('t' key, I believe). And always upon undo or loading of the script.
    David's already hit 3 & 4 - but I'll tell you what happened on the inserting behavior. They added this feature in 4.0, but had too many complaints from folks who accidently "repiped" their scripts when moving elements around a complicated/crowdd workspace/ So they added the "tap n for iNsert". I think it's in the change notes for 4.1...

  • [SOLVED]Wow in bin32-wine-wow-hardware-cursor need help with patching

    Hi all.
    I have installed bin32-wine-wow-hardware-cursor from AUR and it's working pretty fine I must say. I still have one important issue. That is, that the cursor acts strange when holding the button pressed down, as you do when turning etc. The cursor then moves to the middle of the screen and shakes, until you release the button.
    There is a fix for this posted on the Ubuntuforums, but I don't know how to implement this in Arch. Trust me, I have tried in so many ways possible, but I don't have the knowledge to do this. Please help me, or point me in the right direction.
    http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p= … tcount=172
    I have managed to fix this problem myself. If any of you are wanting the same functionality as what i mentioned above, navigate to your mouse.c find the function update_mouse_state, and then make the changes below...
    static void update_mouse_state( HWND hwnd, Window window, int x, int y, unsigned int state, POINT *pt )
    struct x11drv_thread_data *data = x11drv_thread_data();
    char *hwgl;
    get_coords( hwnd, window, x, y, pt );
    hwgl = getenv("WINE_CURSOR");
    /* update the cursor */
    if (hwgl == NULL){
    if (data->cursor_window != window)
    data->cursor_window = window;
    wine_tsx11_lock();
    if (data->cursor) XDefineCursor( data->display, window, data->cursor );
    wine_tsx11_unlock();
    Thank you in advance.
    EDIT: To clear things out a bit. I am using 64-bit Arch.

    Thx for the reply.
    However, I don't think that one includes the right patch either. That just looks like the 32-bit version of the bin32-wine-wow-hardware-cursor. And I cannot install that on my system.
    When talking about cursor issues there are 2.
    1. Getting hardware cursor in OpenGL.
    2. Irritating cursor-behavior when pressing down the buttons to turn etc.
    The package you refer to solves problem #1, so does the bin32-wine-wow-hardware-cursor. It's problem #2 that need fixing. I would assume, since it is just a cosmetic defect, no one else has bothered before me.
    But still, it's solvable in Ubuntu, and I am kind of a perfectionist.
    EDIT: Yes, I can see now that the mouse.c is in the archive. I would be able to edit myself. But (silly question) I won't be able to run the PKGBUILD with that source, right?
    Well, you could always edit the file then re-tar/bzip it.
    The PKGBUILD wiki article states:
    Note: If you need to supply files which are not downloadable on the fly, e.g. self-made patches, you simply put those into the same directory where your PKGBUILD file is in and add the filename to this array. Any paths you add here are resolved relative to the directory where the PKGBUILD lies. Before the actual build process is started, all of the files referenced in this array will be downloaded or checked for existence, and makepkg will not proceed if any are missing.
    So basically, edit the PKGBUILD and set the source to the location of the newly bziped file you have after applying the patch. Then it should use that one instead
    But, that won't be possible on a 64-bit system, right? I can't use the 32-bit source.
    Or am I missing some piece of the puzzle here?
    I think I'm missing part of the puzzle....
    Ok, title of thread: "bin32-wine-wow-hardware-cursor"
    That makes me assume 32-bit
    Next, source file you downloaded:
    wine-wow-hardware-cursor-1.1.43-1-i686.pkg.tar.gz
    Again, 32-bit...
    I'm confused with what you want now

    If you have a tool, try removing the battery cover and chech out. Some times the camera pin may have been misplaced. If so, you can fix it yourself.

    I have Shake 4.1 installed on my Mid-2009 MBP, and I have Lion installed. Anyway, the shkqtv and shkv flipbook apps show up just fine in Launchpad, yet the Shake app itself isn't on any of my Launchpad pages. How can I get the Shake app to join its compatriots in Launchpad? I've tried the Launchpad-Control applet for the Sysprefs pane, but Shake doesn't show up there, either.
