Shake skips frame in sequence

Hi
I'm new to shake, but a vet on final cut. I have a 5 sec video clip that i laid down in a timeline with fcp. At the end of the clip I want it to play in reverse, so i copied the clip, placed it directly after the original and used the modify->speed->reverse function to accomplish this.
The result in fcp seems to blur the revesed clip, so i sent the sequnce to shake to see if it'd clear up the blurriness (by doing better math) on the reversed clip. It does give a better result, as far as the image goes, but its dropping a frame or two right at the start point of the reversed clip.
Any ideas how i can get that frame or two to play properly?

I wouldn't use Shake to do this - investigate the free plugin G-Reverse from Graeme Nattress... http://nattress.com

when I upload videos from iphone 4 to PC they skip frames. It isn't camera shake or anything like that.  Any solutions?

Wow that was really quick, thank you so much.  Im not sure at all which version it was because i said it was around 4 years ago he bought it.  I know it isn't under his username, since he's a PC person (ugh) so i know its probably registered to one of our actual names.  isn't there some way to look it up since we did register it, because I'm not even sure where the disks are from when we bought it (we've moved a lot and also have two storage lockers, i know i would have kept it with other disks) but my cd rom drive is actually broken on my computer as well ( i think it got stepped on and is now squished and won't eject or run disks.)
So is there anyway they can look up that its registered to one of our names since we did register it when we bought and installed it, or do i really have to find the disk with some sort of proof of purchase (i know there would be no receipt after all this time)
either way, ill do what you suggested to the best of my abilities and thank you so much for answering my questions, i can't even open the program as its incompatible and find out the info from that) so I'm in a bit of a pickle and your response was so thorough and it didn't seem to be posted long enough to even write a well researched response, thanks, all the best,

  • Apple TV preset : Compressing DVCPRO HD footage : Results in skipped frames

I've been super confused about the recent issue. I've got a 7 minute sequence in FCP which I'm sending to compressor. I'm compressing for my Apple TV. I use the preset, in the Apple Devices folder.
The movie compresses fine, in about 10 minutes. Final size is about 250MB, 960x540.
I have 4 spots where the movie will actually skip a frame. It's VERY detectable because these are Motion sequences with some very flowing camera movements. A skipped frame is like getting punched in the eye. This is seen on my MacPro and my Apple TV.
I have recreated this issue about 10 times, always with the same spots on the movie. I can't get rid of them. I've checked the original files, the original sequence, and there's no skipped frames. I've exported to H.264, no problem there. I've exported to iPod, and the same thing happens.
What's the commonality?... the m4v compressor.
Now, I've imported the full DVC PRO HD film, as exported from FCP, and put it in iTunes. Then I choose "convert for Apple TV." Final size is 190MB, about 60 MB smaller than the compressor version. Reason?.... Who knows what the settings are for iTunes to AppleTV?
This version plays smoothly, with no jumps or skipped frames, on my MacPro, and on my AppleTV.
What's is up? I am trying to figure out if my DVCPRO HD sequence is trying to shove too much info into an m4v sequence using the preset, and the result is that compressor just throws a frame away here and there.
    This totally *****.

To be perfectly blunt, you are best off going 960x540 since you're shooting 60i.
If you were shooting a 24p format it would make sense try to 1280x720 (since all you'd have to do is resize) but since you're attempting to retime as well (and only gaining frame judder, the choppiness that you speak of) it's not worth the time and effort. Sure you can export your FCP timeline out to a reference QT movie and drop that into Compressor - creating a PhotoJPEG movie at 1280x720 and 23.98 (making sure Frame Controls are all cranked up to Better, and output set to Progressive) but it'll take forever.
As for export to TV, I personally always use QuickTime Pro's Export to MPEG-4 feature, since I can make an h.264 encoded .mp4 file that uses Multi-Pass (being careful to adjust settings to within the TV's specs). All the AppleTV presets - even in Compressor 3 - are subpar and single-pass.
Of course, if you'd rather have a .mov file, just use Compressor to do that.

  • Quicktime movie export from Flash CS3 is skipping frame.

When I try to export Quicktime movie from Flash CS3, the
resulting mov file is skipping frames. i.e.: The movie is showing
    frame number 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 7, 7, 10, 11, 12, 12, 12, 15
    etc...
As you can see the frame number 7 is repeated 3 times and
frame 8 and 9 are nowhere to be found.
The last configuration I used is 960x540, Sorenson video 3
medium quality, 25 fps, keyframe every 25 frames. 6400 kbits/s.
I tried various configurations, with different codecs and even
with keyframe all frames and I always get simillar problems.
Anyone have an idea what is going on, and how to fix this?
    Thank you,
    Olivier.

The QT exporter in Flash is honestly my least favorite
feature - not the feature itself but how it
works (or how it doesn't work in some cases). For me it is
almost unusable unless you have a very
short timeline, small stage, lower frame rate - like AS
generated effects or something - otherwise,
for true frame accuracy to video output - it is not reliable
enough and not fast enough for any real
    world production environment.
So typically for me - I love SWF2Video (www.flashants.com) as
it takes any SWF and makes it into an
AVI that is frame accurate no matter what the frame rate is -
quite incredible - enough so that I
always felt it should have been bundled with Flash (as well
    as Wacom tablets).
Harmony is an incredible product - as is SOLO and TBS (Toon
Boom mStudio) - each of those programs
are dedicated animation programs designed for output to video
    - Flash has a lot of hats to fill and
it was never really designed for animation to video even
though many of us have found it suitable
for all intents and purposes as an animation program for full
    production.
But all in all - the quicktime exporter doesn't really
deliver how we would expect it too I am sorry
to say - I only hope it works as well as it does on the Mac
(Mac users could always choose to export
to Quicktime Video but not PC users).
For now if I am exporting to video I keep it all on the
timeline or nested in Graphic symbols or use
    the SWF2Video tool.
    hope this helps.

  • HD 1280 x 720 , Skips Frames with Quicktime 7.*

Quicktime skips frames when I'm trying to play a video I created with my Digital camera.(Kodak Z1275) Its not the camera because it plays flawlessly on screen. I upload the file to the computer and Quicktime skips a few seconds throughout the entire file. When I uploaded the HD 1280 x 720 file to Youtube it plays flawlessly.
So the conclusion is its not my computer since the file plays perfect with Youtubes encoder.(I even brought the file to the store I purchased the camera from, the same problem) The Problem is with Quick time player!
Also when I select 1/2 speed playback speed in the Quick time player it is very smooth! Conclusion Player encoder does not like 1280 mode?
I have the latest version and even went to the trouble of purchasing Quick time Pro 7 (that I regret)
Any help from the apple gang?

The only conclusion is Quicktime is not able to process the larger 1280 x 720 format. Only the MAC boys can help! You have to get enough people complaining or find another player encoder that will work with the .mov file.
Kodak, the makers of the camera blame it on Quicktime's obsolete program. Not enough users to make it worth changing or maybe its in the works now.
Seems like Kodak got ahead of Quicktime's ****** player

iPhone movies skip frames when  imported into iPhoto

When you upgraded to Snow Leopard did you select the option to install the Quicktime 7 Player? If not the start a reinstall, select the Custom install option and install just the Quicktime 7 Player. That will let you play the movies from iPhoto (although it opens and plays outside iPhoto with Quicktime Player.

  • Viewer in FCP 5 Skipping Frames

    Hey everyone,
This is really annyoing. Everytime I try to watch something in the viewer it goes really slow/skips a lot of frames. I tried puting the playback quality on Safe RT and reduced the playback to low. That did nothing. Is there anyway to fix this so I won't have to scrub anything in the viewer?

I have the same problem, when scrubbing my footage with jkl method I notice skipped frames. My footage is DV-PAL, 3,6 Mb/s. It always worked well with FCP 4.5 and Panther. Now I've installed Tiger and FCP 5.0 (studio pack - updated) and the issue comes over. My G5 is a brand new dual 2,7, 2 Gb RAM, 2x250 Gb sata. The disks are empty, the application is on the system's one and the footage on the other. Does anybody noticed the same issue ?
    What should I do ?
    Thanks.

  • Files seems to skip frames when importing into Premiere Elements 10

I am importing .mts files from a sdhc card. When trying to import the .MTS Files into Adobe Premiere Elements 10 it skip frames at clip transitions. When i place the files onto the timeline it looks like a 'jump' between clips, as if frames were missing. The same happens when I import .vob files from a dvd. A long seqence gets interrupted by a quick drop in audo and a quick jumpcut. How do i fix this ?

As John says, matching your project settings to your video is vital to a successful editing experience. If you've got a match, you will NOT see red lines above your clips when you add them to your timeline. Is that the case in your project?
Also, AVCHD video often requires at least a quad core or i7 processor with a good load of RAM to edit. If you don't have a powerful, well-tuned system, it could well be that the skipping you're seeing is just your computer unable to process the video data fast enought.
How fast is your processor and how much RAM do you have? What OS are you running?

  • Stuck and skipping frames

We made AIR video player using Flash CS5. But it is stuck and skipping frames when I try to play a video.
CPU usage directly goes up to 60, 70%. It gets stuck and skipping frame.
    Video Format : h264 , 720p
It gets stuck and skipping frames no matter we try to play the video either by our player or by Adobe Media Player.
Most of our customers don’t have modern super computer so how can we solve this problem?
We made the test on pc with HP-Dual core CPU.
    EncryptVideo.level = High
The videos which hadn’t been encrypted are stuck too.
    Thanks

    Hi Dalai,
Does this happen to all of your h.264 contents? What component do you use to do the playing? Can you try to use OSMF(http://www.osmf.org/)?
Can you try to play this content with http://drmtest.adobe.com/SVP/SampleVideoPlayer_FP.html also?

  • Flash to quicktime skipping frames

I'm exporting a complex flash movie to quicktime and it is skipping frames on export. The resolution is 1400 X 1020 and the frame rate is 30 fps. How can I get flash to render each frame?

  • Jog Shuttle - Rewind Skips frames

I am trying to figure out how to encode in Quicktime a mpeg4 or h.264 movie with a smooth rewind (shuttle). I am coaching a sport and trying to teach with the video. After encoding, the video plays fine and actually the fast forwards goes smoothly. But the rewind skips frames . I capture from my camera in dv (avi file) with 720x480 and 29.97 f/s with about 3m bit rate. I don't care the size after I encode. When I play the avi file in QT it rewinds fine and QT goes through each frame, but when I encode to mpeg4 or h.264, the video skips on rewind. Any help would be awesome!!!
P4 - 2.4 gig 1mb ram (750 mb free)   Windows XP Pro   I have nothing running in the background

Sorry Kyn Drake, here's the def. of what a b-frame and bidirectional frame are....
    Bidirectional Frames:
Using bidirectional prediction increases the compression efficiency and the quality of your video. A bidirectional frame is a frame created by the compressor and inserted between intraframes and/or interframes. The compressor analyzes the frames before and after the bidirectional frame and then creates and inserts a frame based on the average quality of both.
Has nothing to do with playing a video backwards...
    B-Frames:
The advantages to using the B-Frames are to achieve higher quality of the video and the ability to have playback scalability. By default, the B-Frame setting is set to off. The options in the drop-down menu are: off, Auto, 1, and 2.

  • How to make clip "skip" frames?

I have a clip I would like to move jerkily, in other words, repeat a given frame 3 times, then skip the next two frames and repeat the third frame three times, etc., etc. What's the best way to accomplish this (without doing freeze frames manually)?

I could only think of one way... Export the clip as a QT Pro movie self contained and then Export from QT as a "Movie to Image Sequence". Then go in and Duplicate twice the frames you want to repeat. Its easy to delete the frames you don't want. When finished with this arduous task then you Open the Image Sequence back to QT and then import back to FCE. I'm glad you are doing it and not I. If one were an expert in AppleScript I guess you could write a script to do the Duplicate and Delete operations on the appropirately numbered frames (files). But I am not so I did it manually.
Incidentally I tried it on a very small clip (about 27 frames) and it didn't look very jumpy to me.

  • MTS Files appear to skip frames at clip transitions?

My Canon Vixia HF S200 creates multiple sequentially numberd MTS files for long sequences.
Snapping them together in Premier Pro CS5 yields a 'jump' between clips, as if frames were missing.
Now, sombody on another forum insisted that there were no frames missing from the MTS files, and that re-muxing them would prove it.  So I did download 'tsMuxer' a free muxer, and combined a few into a single m2ts file and indeed the 'jump' vanished at the point where the previous 2 would have joined!
So....  Any ideas?  Some setting?  Frame rate?
    Thanks,
    Dave

    That worked, thanks!
So it appears that the camera is not actually creating individual complete MTS files with all the embedded structures, but they are really just chunks of one larger MTS object, broken up to stay under the 2 GB limit of some file systems?  Thus the media browser and other tools that know this combine them correctly?
Whereas trying to look at them as individual complete MTS files must confuse some software, I'm guessing that Premiere, and other viewers that I played with, seem to have to skip some stuff in later files (not the first) to try and get in sync with the data stream or something?
Just wondering how that is really working under the covers...
