Shake to Shuffle - no sensitivity setting?

My wife is an avid walker and iPhone addict. So she was a little disappointing when we had to turn off the shake to shuffle option because it keeps changing songs when walking.
I looked, but didn't see a sensitivity setting, so is it safe to assume there is none? If not, this would be a nice feature to incorporate.
Thanks,
Brad

  • Can't Turn Of "shake to shuffle"!!!! iTouch 2G iOS 4.2.1

I feel I have a very unique problem, I can't turn off the Shake to Shuffle mode (I'm going to call it S2S.) Before you say it, I know HOW to turn it off, but it won't actually let me. Actually, I can't change any of the settings in the "music" tab under settings. I change it and play around with other settings, then check back before exiting the settings app and it's the way I set it up. However, after I exit out of the settings and then immediately go back in, everything under the "music" tab is set back to default.
I've tried everything short of a full restore, simply because I JUST put my music on and I don't wanna go through that again! lol I've done the power+home button reset several times and tried to see if there were software updates, etc. Nothings worked!
Usually wouldn't be a big deal, but it always shuffles during my favorite songs. Also, the music player has been randomly stopping in the middle of a song. Not pausing, but stopping, as in there is no "now playing" but it happens on something like song 50 out of 1500, so its not like it was the end of the album...
    Any help for either problem?

had to reset it and set up as new ipod. lost music, but it works fine now.

  • TS3474 My iPod shuffle operation isn't working and keeps playing the same tune! The shake to shuffle is turned off. Any ideas? Thanks!

My iPod nano has suddenly stopped shuffling tunes and just repeats the same track. The shake to shuffle is off - any ideas? Thanks!

It sounds like the repeat setting has been enabled. See page 21 of your iPod's User Guide for instructions on turning it off.

  • Does my Macbook have "Shake to Shuffle" on?!

Hello Mac fam! So I've noticed something weird, every time I'm listening to a song or watching a video and I lift up my macbook and move it, It either changes songs or pauses the video I'm watching.
I know on my iPhone and iPod theres a setting for " Shake to Shuffle" where it changes the song by simply shaking the phone. I was wondering if my Macbook Pro 15 Retina 2014 has this feature turned on somehow. How do I turn it off?

As there is no longer a need to have a Mac/PC to use a ios device I dont believe there is a requirement for your MacBook to be powered on if you are backing up your iphone/ipad to iCloud.

  • Shake to Shuffle problem

Tried researching this online and couldn't find anything.
I have my iPhone set on "shake to shuffle"... and when I shake it, it plays the shuffle sound, and then repeats it, and shuts the iPod off on my phone and stops playing music.
Anyone know of a way to remedy this? Thanks

Well, the problem went away for a while.... now it's back.
I shake to shuffle to another song.... it shuffles, makes the shuffle sound twice, then exits to the home screen.
I've rebooted. I've restored. I've reset settings and still nothing.
It's getting to the point where I'd rather go back to my blackberry....Almost 2 months have past and no responses.
    Frustrated..... still.

  • Shake to shuffle not working

i just got my ipod in the mail today, and i love it. but the shake to shuffle feature doesnt work. im going to have to go to the apple store, but the hold button is not on and the setting is not disabled - i checked the website and thats all it says. help anyone?

I decided to download the manual and this is what it says:
Shaking is also disabled when the Hold switch is in the HOLD position, or if the display
is off. If iPod nano is off, you can’t turn it on by shaking it.
The Remedy might be to disable energy saver mode.
The correct implementation to this should be that in energy save mode, while playing music, the nano can be shaken to shuffle the song, leaving the screen on, without a button press.
This would help to increase battery life while changing songs unless you want the screen to come on while shaking(another available option which could be under an energy save sub menu). Just a suggestion to apple.

  • Mid-song shuffle without shake to shuffle on?

Hi, hoping someone can help. I've used my new 6th gen nano only 3 times, and on two occaisions while on a run had a song play for about a minute or so, then shuffle to a new song. Almost as though it had a 'song preview' setting or something similar. I verified that shake to shuffle was turned off. The only consistent thing that I did when it happened is that I scrolled through the playlist and selected a song to be played as opposed to just starting at the beginning of the play list and letting it play through.
Has this happened to anyone? Any possible solutions?

So it will skip out of a song when the volume is really high?
Normally, if it actually stops in the middle of a song and goes on to another one it means that there is something up with that music file. It can even happen with files that seem to play fine in iTunes. I am more of a video guy, but my understanding is that its like dropped frames in a video. If there are too many dropped frames in a music track, the Nano will stop playing that track and move on to another. iTunes is more tolerant of these "dropped frames" and will play through them.
With a track like this, try having iTunes convert it then put it on the Nano. If it works, odds are that there is something up with that original music file.

  • Shake and Shuffle While Screen's Timed Out?

Is the Shake to Shuffle feature not supposed to work when the screen is timed out?  If so, to me, this is incredibly restrictive.  I'd assume the shake to shuffle feature is added specifically so one can skip the song while performing some other activity - not requiring two hands.  If I have to 'wake' my I-pod when I want to skip a song, why even add the shake to shuffle feature?
For instance.  I bought my Nano specifically to listen to while I go on my long motorcycle rides.  It's great.  I put it on a wristband and run the cord up my jacket.  I'd like to wear it on my left wrist and be able to give my left (clutch-hand) wrist a good shake when I want to skip a song, but I can't, as the screen times out pretty quickly and this disables the feature.
Please, in a future firmware update, can this issue be addressed?  Either by allowing users to turn off the screen time-out, or by allowing a toggle to make the shake to shuffle feature work with the screen timed out?
    Thanks

I just found this in the iPod's User Guide: http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/iPod_nano_6thgen_User_Guide.pdf
    Use “Shake to Shuffle”
When the screen is on, you can give iPod nano a quick shake to skip to a random song. If the screen is off, press the Sleep/Wake button before you shake. “Shake to Shuffle” is on by default, but you can turn it off in Settings > Music.
So what you are experiencing is the default or expected behavior.  If you are up to it, leave feedback to Apple on this using the form in this link.

  • What are iPod Controls? + Shake to shuffle? + user guide?

    (I have iPod Touch 2g 3.0)
When I go to Settings > General > Home, there is a on/off switch for "iPod Controls" with a note under saying "When playing music, show iPod controls." I have Googled this and played with it with the switch in the on and off positions and cannot figure out what the heck that does.
Also, nothing happens when I shake it. How is the shake to shuffle thing supposed to work?
Over on some other thread, someone mentioned a user guide. I want to RTFM, but I don't know where it is!
    Thanks!

I'm not asking about the Home Button setting. I have that set to iPod. I am asking about the on/off button below the Home Button settings, the one that is labeled "iPod Controls." I think Easybourne answered this right after you.
The shake to shuffle feature is new with version 3.0. Have you upgraded?
Yep, says so in the first line of my post.
The user's guide is bookmarked in the safari application as a favorite.
No WiFi at the moment, but I'll check it when I get home. Thanks!

  • No Shake to Shuffle for iPhone 3G iPod?

No Shake to Shuffle for iPhone 3G iPod with 2.1?
iPhone 3G also has accelerometer but when I shake my iPhone 3G, the song does not shuffle to the next track.

That is correct. No shake to shuffle on iphone.

  • Paramenter Value Case Sensitive Setting

Is there a setting in the pref.txt file (or any place else) to change the actions of the case sensitive setting for entering parameter values? Turning it off/on. Changing the case sensitive setting in the condition that contains the parameter does not modify the parameter value entry window functionality.
    Thanks,
    Jerre

    Hi Jerre
I'm afraid there is no preference that can be set to control the casing of the values keyed in a parameter. You would have to do this yourself by embedding the value of the parameter into a calculation and use UPPER or LOWER accordingly.
The option you are referring to controls whether Discoverer should literally take the value keyed in the parameter as the filter for the condition or not. It does not change the casing of the parameter for other uses.
    Best wishes

  • Shake to shuffle shuffles all songs instead of the playlist I am in.  Why?

I just purchased my Nano 4th gen, and Shake to Shuffle is pretty cool. But it shuffles all the songs. This is probably by design, perhaps, but it makes more sense to me (being a layman) that I would want to stay in my playlist.
Was there a reason for this? Perhaps I am unreasonable...
Might this change in a later firmware upgrade? At least give us the option to have it shuffle just our playlist, or all songs.
    Anyone else have this issue?

    Hi CaroleH,
If you are having issues accessing or uploading photos either in apps or Safari, you may want to make sure you have installed the most recent iOS update that was just released:
    iOS 8.0.2

  • Shake to shuffle doesn't work within Playlists

I have just bought the new 8gb Nano, and i love it. But one thing is driving me mad. When i am playing songs within a playlist and then shake to shuffle, it goes back to my entire library of songs.
    My questions are therefore:
Why doesn't it shuffle the playlist, when i shake?
    Is this a bug?
Do Apple intend to do anything about this?

Use this link. They can't reply back to you but it says on the website that they read every comment:

  • Can;t get the 'Shake to Shuffle' feature to work

I bought a new 16gig blue ipod nano yesterday and its all going good except for two things.
Firstly- I cant get the 'Shake to Shuffle' feature to work. I will shake my ipod around like mad when im in shuffle mode but nothing happens!
and Secondly- I cant get the genius to work on my ipod. When im playing a song I hold down the middle button and 'Add to On The Go, Browse Album, Browse Artist and Cancel' all come up but no genius! I do not have an itunes account because I do not have a Credit Card so i cant work it on my itunes either- is that why it wont work on my ipod?
If some would could please help me out it would be much appreciated.
    Thankyou.

    1) Make sure Shake-to-shuffle is turned on in the Settings option of the iPod.
    2) Genius won't work if you haven't activated it in iTunes. You don't have to give a credit card to get an account, a debit will do just fine.
In any case, here's a link to create an account without providing bank card details:
