Shaking image on external monitor when Satellite A200 is running on AC

Hello
I have this problem which is driving me crazy .... I bought an external monitor for my Toshiba Satellite A200-1s9 laptop but the problem with it is that the image, on the external monitor, is shaking. I tried another monitor, the same, another cable, same problem; the only way how to stop it is to unplug the AC from the laptop.
I also tried to move the monitor further from the laptop but nothing.
I can making stop shaking so hard only if I switch to the AC profile from FULL POWER to Save power ... but even with this the image is still shaking a bit.
So basically there is a magnetic field around there, probably in the laptop, which is making my image shaking like crazy ... does anybody know how to stop it?
tx

Hi,
hmmm...
I don't think that this has to do something with magnetic fields.
Cause it is related to the power consumption of the computer, it seems that there is a problem with the AC-Adaptor.
If it has to deliver much 'juice', it's condensators to keep the voltage absolutely stable are perhaps too weak.
Such instabilities ( which have the 50 Hz frequency of the power supply ) can disturb the signal to the monitor.
A solution for that ? ..if you know how to solder some fat condensators somehow in between...
Or:
It's a grounding problem
I never heard from such problems with LCD-Monitors (VGA out??). Mostly this is the case when you you use analog video out,
leading to no color on the TV.
Do you have an annoying buzzing when you connect audio out to an amplifier ? That would be a sign for that.
I had such a problem and solved it by plugging my laptop on AC on another circuit in the house than my audio devices
So experiment with that.
First: disconnect all other stuff ( printer, sticks, antennas, everything ) These are nasty problems with lots of possible interferences.
Let me know!

  • How do I tell Logic to open new windows always on my external monitor (when available)?

    Hey guys
I finally got my own copy of Logic 9 from the App Store and I'm very happy with it.
I have a question though. Logic always open new windows (e.g. when opening a project or when opening a plugin, etc.) in my Macbook Pro's monitor, but at home I have a big external screen which I want to use as the main screen.
I already have set the external monitor to be the main screen in the System Preferences, so the dock and menu bar always display correctly on my external monitor when available. But Logic still uses my MBP's monitor as main monitor, so I have to move the windows to the external display every time I open them.
Is there a way to tell Logic to use my external monitor as default when it's availble?
    Thanks, Josh

There is a thing in OSX that is called "key focus" or "focus".
When you type on your keyboard (text or any keyboard shortcut), the OS has to know where to send that command to if you have multiple windows open (or multiple applications).  The answer is, it directs the command to the window that has "key focus".
The key focus window is the one with the active window title bar (not grayed out) and the colored three buttons in the upper left corner (unfortunately, Logic doesn't use colors).
    Now to Logic:
Logic follows the same rules. However, you have to pay attention to multi-pane windows like the Arrange window. This is a window with more windows (panes) inside. Now the question is, which window pane inside that window has key focus. If you look closely, then you see that the window frame changes  their shade slightly (sometimes very hard to see). Pay especially attention to plugins. They also have key focus when selected and can receive keystrokes.
    Finally to your question.
You cannot set the preferences on which monitor screen Logic opens  a window. This is determined by the location of the window that has currently key focus. Any new window and also alert windows and dialog windows  (Save, Open) will open on that screen.
So if you want a window to open on you external screen, click on a Logic window on that screen.
I have five monitors on my Logic setup and I use a QuicKeys macro (push one button) that sets the key focus to my main monitor and now any new window will open on that screen screen.
    Hope that helps

  • No Image on External Monitor

My external monitor has become very difficult to use with my PowerBook, but I don't know what I did to cause this.
I am using a Samsung SyncMaster 910T as an external display via the Apple VGA - DVI adaptor with a 15-inch PB G4, and for years it has worked properly in Dual Display and Mirror modes . . . but recently I have trouble getting the display to show ANY image at all. This is NOT always the case, sometimes it does appear but usually it won't, I cannot get a bead on what is causing this, seems I have made some self-defeating adjustment that recurs almost every time I plug it in.
I currently disconnect and reconnect the display EVERY day because I take the PB to work and plug in when I return home. The DISPLAYS preference pane does list the Samsung and all the various resolution options, seems the PB can detect it, but the image just isn't there. I only recently discovered there even was an option to assign different resolutions to the external display -- again, it worked properly for years at the same resolution as the PB so I never adjusted it. I suspect that the difference is than now I disconnect & reconnect daily whereas before it was done much less often.
I followed Mac OS Help instructions recently and performed a SAFE RESTART, which returned the display's image but it rarely "mounts" when I plug it into the PB, and the external display seems to work ONLY when set with a rather low unattractive resolution such as 800x600 at 60Hz.
For over 4 years I never adjusted the external's resolution and it always worked just fine with the same resolution as the PB . . . I edited broadcast-quality video on the setup for over two years every day and never adjusted anything. I now play trial-and-error almost daily just to get image on the external, and almost every time I switch between DUAL and MIRROR modes it goes away.
I'd like to find settings that can be "saved" if possible, so those settings prevail each time I connect the external . . . any thoughts on how to rectify this? Will I ever get back to trouble-free matching resolutions on the two screens?

Hi, Jimmy. Another thing you may want to try is resetting the PRAM in the monitor. With many monitors you can do this by disconnecting the monitor from AC power and from the Mac for 15 minutes, then plugging the monitor into an AC power outlet but not connecting it to your Mac, and turning the monitor on for a couple of minutes. The monitor will probably display nothing; if it does display anything, ignore it. Then turn it off and unplug the AC power for another 15 minutes. Finally, hook it up to your Mac as usual and test again.

  • Dull/Burry Image on External Monitor

I connected a MBP (9600M GT) using a DVI-D to HDMI cable to a 24" LCD monitor (1920x1200 native) and am getting a very dull/blurry picture (entire screen - pictures, video, text etc.), but when I connect the same monitor to a windows XP desktop via VGA-VGA with shared graphics I'm getting a crisp picture. Shouldn't I be getting a superior image via the mac with superior cable connection and graphics card? In fact, the picture is so bad from mac that its not worth using. I have tried different resolution settings w/o success. Is there anything else I could do to fix the problem?

Hi hhog: Are you running the external in Extended Desktop or Mirror mode? If mirror it will not be crisp. To get maximum clarity and detail you need to operate the external monitor in its native resolution (1920X1080). To accomplish that you need to be operating in Extended Desktop mode.
    Hope this helps

  • T530 - Dual boot not displayed on external monitor when docked

    Hi,
I just got my new T530, loaded all my applications and data from my T61. The T530 is connected to the 4338 docking station.
I have Win 7 on the internal disk, and Win 8 on the ultrabay disk.
Dual boot works fine when undocked, but when docked and the lid is closed I don't see the dual boot selection on the external monitor and the PC boots into Win 7 (which is my default OS).
When cold or warm booting I also don't see the Thinkpad splash screen.
I did not have this problem with my T61 when docked. There the splash screen and dual boot selection was displayed and I was able to select which OS I want to boot into.
Any ideas whet I can do here?
    Thanks

As I came across this it's a matter of the two graphic cards and how they are shared.
The Intel always drives the Laptop-Display and the analogue port, the digitalports at the docking are all driven by the Nvidia Card.
The splashscreen will always be displayed with the intel card and therefore not be visible with the digital ports at the docking.

  • [T430s] Small ripple on external monitor when power adapter plugged in

If I unplug adapter, external monitor picture is fine. But if it is plugged in, I can see small ripples on the screen.
    How can I fix it?
    Thank you.

Yes, the charging stops but the battery goes into a state that never discharges, which interferes with its life. This is what the Apple support said. Actually several of them confirmed that having it plugged in all the times will affect the battery life. They said to unplug it and let it discharge completely once a week to allow a full cycle to cycle to occur.
As you can tell, there is mixed information. They say one thing in an article and another on the phone. There is also a lot of opinion. The complete understanding will happen only when time passes with the computer constantly plugged in.
I speak from experience of having my older Macbook Pro plugged in for 7 years. I got the same story from Apple (battery stops charging - no harm done) Right. The battery overheats, it bulges, it presses on the chips inside and the mac goes crazy. Also the battery life goes down to only about 20 minutes after a year of  being plugged in. This new Macbook Pro may have a better battery technology and electronics but they were saying the same thing back than. The difference was that with the old Macbook Pro my battery replacement cost me $60 and it took me 10 seconds to exchange it. This time battery replacement will cost me $200 and will have to part with the computer for 4 days to have it replaced. And how often will I have to do that? I guess I will follow up on this discussion in a year to let you know the outcome.
I hope I was clear in expressing my concern.

  • VGA output jumps between External Monitor and Satellite L505

I have a Satellite L505-144 linked to an external VGA monitor via a 2 way Aten KVM switch.
Intermittently the external monitor screen will go black, the picture will transfer to the laptop monitor for a second before reverting back to the external monitor. This does not seem to be triggered by any particular keyboard or mouse action and does not seem to be time linked.
The keyboard and mouse connected to the KVM seem unaffected. I have the latest video, motherboard bios and all the latest Toshiba released drivers loaded.
To test the KVM I have connected up a Toshiba NB200 in place of the L505, the problem stops, replace the L505, it comes back.
The issue is not effected by having a second PC connected to KVM. I have tried with a second PC on and off, connected and unconnected, still no change to the problem.
I have switched the KVM cables around and the problem persists and follows the L505. If I connect the L505 directly to the monitor the problem goes away!
I can conclude its an issue between the KVM and the L505.
Is there a known fix or work around?
Is there any guarantee if I get say a Belkin KVM this issue with the L505 will not occur with that equipment as well?

At first I must say that I dont think Toshiba will offer fix for this. Toshiba doesnt support usage of third part products so if there is some possible fix or work around ATEN should know this.
Connect all external devices you use directly on your Satellite L505, test functionality and let us know f you have some similar or any other problem.

  • Problem with external monitor when using Windows XP on MBP

    Hi All,
I just got a 15.4" MBP, and put Windows XP Home on it using BootCamp. Anyway, the monitor sits above the MBP's screen, as shown below (set up this way through display props, not sure if it matters):
    [ ] External Monitor
    [ ] MBP Screen
Anyway, some program windows won't drag to the external monitor (Dell 2007FP connected via DVI). An example is AIM. Any idea what it could be? The window shows for about 1/2" on the top monitor, and then it sticks, even though the cursor will continue to move upwards.
Thanks in advance for any advice.
    Mike

  • Can I use 2 external monitors with Satellite M70?

Is there any chance to connect to PC (M70-131) 2 outer monitors? Triyng to do this via video splitter I have only 2 monitor configuration mode, instead of 3 as it should be.

You own a VGA splitter. This device can only copy the SAME image on two monitors.
    but,...
you want to have totally three (3) independent pictures produced by your notebook.
Yes, that's possible. You will only need to purchase an USB Video Adaptor for your notebook (or desktop).
They are not very expensive (around 100 Euro) and allow you to do amazing things with your applications.
Here is a link of such a device (This picture is meant as an EXAMPLE ONLY, it might not be the BEST device to buy for your requirements).

  • Satellite Pro P100: losing picture on external monitor when I use DVI-D connection

    Guys,
I've got a Samsung SyncMaster 940MW LCD TV and a Satellite Pro P100 (Geforce Go 7600), so recently I bought a DVI-D cable to connect them together.
Now the problem is that when I've got it connected at 1400x900 the LCD TV screen switches to a black screen repeatedly (usually when there is alot of activity or I'm resizing windows from maximum to mimimum).
Now, I would have thought it would be the LCD TV not liking the signal or refresh rate however I've connected it using a VGA cable and its fine - no problem all no matter how much I mimimise my windows or put alot of activity on screen. To complicate things even more, when I'm running the screens in "Dual Screen" mode rather than "Clone" if I set one of them 1400x900 @ 59hz in 16bit it works fine....??
Can someone please help as this is doing my head in as I can't figure out what the hell is causing it!
I've included a list below of all the different resolutions / screen modes I've tried it in and the outcome.
Thanks for your time & help.

    Hello
I hope you have checked Users manuals delivered with your unit. On the page 148 you can find very interesting table about supported display resolution.
I must be honest with you and say that I am not DVI expert because my LCD has no this port, just HDMI but if I am understood you right you have problem with 1440x900 resolution only. This resolution is not listed as supported and I presume it is not unusual that you have problem.
Sorry but I believe you must use maximum supported 1280x1024 resolution only.

  • How to enable the wide resolution on external monitor on Satellite A40-261

    Hello to all,
I've a Satellite A40 notebook and just bought an external widescreen monitor. I only find normal resolutions in the display property box. Is it possible to expand the range with widescreen resolutions?
    Regards, Leander

    Hello guys.
Firstly I would like to say something about the screen resolutions.
Mostly the certain resolution is not available because the resolution is not listed in the graphic driver. In other words, if the driver doesnt support this resolution so you will be not able to choose it.
We try to investigate a little bit:
    @BKV
You have a Satellite M100. As you said this notebook has a ATI card installed.
Did you check settings in the ATI catalyst? Go to the display properties and choose Advanced. There you should choose the ATI catalyst tab.
New window should open and you should see the ATU catalyst control center.
Check View Advanced view display option. Check this area. Maybe the resolution is available there.
    @Lea
Your unit uses Intel graphic card but the Intel tab should be also placed in the Advanced options of graphic card properties.
If you dont found the right resolution so I presume the driver does not support it!

  • No sound on LCD TV when Satellite A200 is connected via HDMI

The problen is: I connect notebook (A200) to LCD TV (Philips) by HDMI. The video is OK, but sound stay on notebook not in LCD TV.
May be the problem is HDMI 1.2 does not support sound and video together? Only 1.3?
    Sorry for my English

Sound should work with every HDMI cable as far as I know. Have two of them, one with HDMI 1.3 and another one, which I don't even know, but I guess not the 1.3 standard, as it was pretty cheap.
To enable sound via HDMI you will have to go to control panel - sound. There select the digial output device as standard. Make sure you have closed the media player or any program which has sound output before. Then start player again and sound should now be heard through TV.

  • How do I get my windows to move to my external monitor when connecting one?

I have the original Macbook and a 23" ACD. Ever since OS X 10.5, when I plug in my ACD, the windows stay on the Macbook screen. Before, in 10.4.x, the windows used to move over to the ACD, which is where the dock and menu bar are. How do I fix this?
I've noticed that if I close the Macbook lid, then they move. But it's annoying to have the computer go to sleep and then wake up again just to get this to work. Furthermore, it takes a long time because for some reason my Macbook tends to not wake up until like 20 seconds later after I close the lid (could this be from the bluetooth keyboard and wireless mouse causing extra lag time?)

    Hi Ned,
Thank you for your help. Your 2nd solution led me straight to the correct solution which is:
    slider_1._x = this._xmouse + groove_1._x;
I use the object variable this instead of groove_1 as I am calling it from the function:
    groove_1.onMouseDown = function(){
        slider_1._x = this._xmouse + groove_1._x;;
I also add the groove_1 left hand offset (groove_1._x;)
    Thanks again for you help.
